Usually I love everything trippy and colorful but these pics kind of fit the cold winter weather. :)
Speaking of that, tomorrow is one of my favorite holiday's......Groundhog Day! It's the time of year when Punxsutawney Phil lets us know if there's 6 more weeks of winter or not. He's just so friggin cute!

About that desert biker rebel look...

Hey everybody, here's the post I've been wanting to share with you, the whole desert biker rebel style. I guess you can say it's also a mix of Native American and south western fashion, especially the feathers, fringe and cool turquoise jewelry.

The whole thing just reminds me of a scene out of Easy Rider. Riding through the desert in a fierce hippie style leather jacket.....rebellious...free.

I'm loving these rings and pendants I found at Durango Silver. I may have to add them to my "want list" for Spring.

Even celebs are getting in on this trend....err...in their own way....

I didn't forget about ya.....just taking a little break for the holiday's. So how was everyone's holiday? Did you get any cool stuff? Any weird stuff?

I'm definitely feeling the rock n roll hippie vibe for 2011. Especially the whole desert-biker-rebel look that's in right now.....more on that in a post to come!

Ah yes, the cold winter months are upon us. Of course in the fashion world that means "We're already doing Spring people, keep up!" So here are a few pics from the Roberto Cavalli Spring 2011 collection. I like the rock n roll hippie vibe he's got going on and the 60's style crochet detail in some of the pieces.

Totally made me think of Heather Graham in Austin Powers......

A very fierce collection, you definitely need some attitude to pull this off! :) So where would you guys wear these looks? Club? Cocktail party? Casual Friday?

From subtle to over-the-top, headpieces are a current trend! Personally I think the wilder the better, but you should make sure you can pull it off. If you aren't the type of person who likes attention then a smaller headband might be just what you need to give your outfit a kick. If you are one of those people that likes to make a grand entrance and channel your inner drag queen, then big it is!

And for some reason every time I say the name Emilio, I can't help but think of that scene in The Night at The Roxbury when Will Ferrell and Chris Kattan are trying to pick up chicks outside a club and tell the Emilio story......"I was like Emilllllio, Emilllllliiiooo!"

Jeffrey Campbell Glitter Lita Platforms and other Fierceness

And on the 8th day God said.....Let there be shoes!

SO, I have been waiting patiently for the Jeffrey Campbell Silver Glitter Platforms to arrive and thanks to Edge of Urge (and my fabulous husband), I now have very happy feet!

Not only did he hook me up with the Lita's, he bought me an early X-mas gift....The Jeffrey Campbell Multi Glitter Lydia Platforms! I'm a very luck girl :)

Speaking of lucky, I don't think I've won anything ever. A few weeks ago I won these Jeffrey Campbell XIT boots from the fierce blogger Victoria from Demi Couture and Solestruck.com.
Talk about a great month!

My dogs think my new Demonia Torment boots are also pretty fab!

HIPPIE NEWS: John Lennon's 70th B-day + New Janis Joplin Book Release

Hi everybody, happy Friday!

Tomorrow is John Lennon's 70th Birthday and to celebrate this event Julian and Cynthia Lennon will be unveiling a giant commemorative Peace Monument in Liverpool. The 18ft. high "Imagine Peace & Harmony" statue was created by the Phoenix, Arizona-based artist Lauren Voiers to capture the spirit of John Lennon and his message of peace. Lauren was commissioned by The Global Peace Initiative, an American arts organization dedicated to creating peace monuments around the world.

Jerry Goldman, Managing Director of The Beatles Story comments:

“Lennon’s message of peace is timeless and is one that is now more relevant than ever. We hope that this imposing monument dedicated to John will become a place that people from all over the world will visit to contemplate peace and John Lennon’s contribution to it through his music."

With 2,000 dignitaries and fans from all over the world, it will surely be one of the largest celebrations of John Lennon's birthday in the world!

On a side note, Reuters reports a set of John Lennon's fingerprints being auctioned for at least $100,000 has been seized by the Federal Bureau of Investigation! The fingerprint card was being shown to media at a midtown New York store on Wednesday in an auction preview of more than 90 Beatles items when the FBI faxed a subpoena, dropped in and nabbed the card.

Can anyone say....conspiracy?

Speaking of rock legends, this October marks the 40th anniversary of Janis Joplin’s untimely death. A pioneer in the male-dominated rock scene of the late 60s, Janis redefined a woman’s place in music the moment she took the stage.

To pay homage to the “first queen of rock and roll” Amulet Books is publishing a new biography about Joplin by author Ann Angel. The book is called Janis Joplin: Rise Up Singing and is currently available at Abrams Books and Amazon.com.

Readers will get an intimate look at her rockstar life, through carefully selected archival photos and all-new interviews with family, friends, and bandmates.

Sure to be an awesome read for die-hard fans as well as the new generation of classic rock lovers!

Say it isn't so! Rachel Zoe and Brad split

Well it seems the rumor is true.....Rachel Zoe and Brad Goreski are no more. According to People the split was amicable, and quoted Brad as saying, "I love Rachel and she’s taught me everything I know, but there’s a point where either I do it now or I’ll never know what it’s like to spread my wings and soar.

Other sources say the split was not so friendly and it came to a head when Brad appeared on the cover of The New York Times style section. Tension between them had been growing and it was just the final straw.

Personally, I think Rachel is fierce and have posted about her several times. Brad was fun to watch as well, but it seemed like it was only a matter of time until he went out on his own. It will be interesting to see who will be involved in the Zoe Project Season 4......that's hoping there is a season 4!

For those who love fashion but are unable to make it to New York City this week, now you will be able to see the latest looks from the hottest designers, right from your computer! Zeitbyte Digital Media will be providing live webcasts for the 88 runway shows taking place in the Tents at Lincoln Center, as well as the 18 shows at Milk Studios, and will also be webcasting from the fashion shows outside The Tents.

I had a chance to ask the president of Zeitbyte, Gary Kahn, a few questions regarding Zeitbyte and what we will see during the Fashion Week webcasts. Here's what he had to say....

HC: Hi Gary, thanks for taking the time to talk to our readers today. Please tell us about Zeitbyte and what services you provide.

GK: Zeitbyte is a digital media services company that provides media online and video services including live event webcasting, video production services, custom media players, media encoding, and media management and streaming. We are a Manhattan based company and have worked with clients such as ConEdison, Kenneth Cole, Universal Music, UBS, Neiman Marcus, Phillips de Pury and Michael Kors.

HC: Fashion Week is one of the most highly anticipated events of the year. What can viewers expect to see during the webcasts?

GK: Viewers will see every fashion show from the Tents at Lincoln Center and from Milk Studios live. Zeitbyte will also be webcasting from the fashion shows outside The Tents and will be working with First Comes Fashion, a website dedicated to everything taking place during Fashion Week.

HC: In the past few years the fashion industry seems to have embraced internet broadcasting as a means to promote their products. Do you see this as a trend that is on the rise and do you think it will eventually replace traditional media?

GK: There is such limited space in the tents that broadcasting it on the Internet is the perfect way to let the public inside. For the past three years we have done more webcasting every year. The designers have embraced this technology and I think are helping push it to new heights. They understand their viewers and are coming up with some very interesting ideas about engaging with their audience and promoting their brand. We are also seeing a trend towards webcasting events outside of the traditional fashion week. We have done some interesting work with Neiman Marcus and Donna Karan. They are doing smaller fashion shows at their department stores and webcasting those. I do not think webcasting will replace traditional media. I think the two will co-exist side by side for many years and will start looking more like each other.

HC: I've heard that you enjoy being in Manhattan. Where is your favorite place to unwind after a hectic week?

GK: In Central Park with my new son Oskar.

BIG FURRY JACKETS! I don't know about you guys but I am so ready for the fall/winter season! Cold weather means we get to break out those fabulous fur jackets or vests that are sitting in our closets waiting patiently to be worn! I'm posting a few pics to get in the cold weather mood.....yes, I know it's like 90 degrees out...but I just couldn't wait!

Just for the record, I like to wear faux fur myself, but everyone is entitled to their opinion. :)

Rockstar Sarah Atereth - Exclusive interview!

There are a lot of words I could use to describe recording artist Sarah Atereth...beautiful, talented, creative, rockstar...But the first word that comes to my mind is genuine!

I recently had the privilege of working with Sarah for a photo shoot in which she wore a Hippie Couture statement necklace (more on that later). After many conversations and emails, I learned that not only is she amazingly talented, she truly has a loving heart and great spirit!

Sarah's sultry vocals and powerful performances have garnered the attention of top recording artists and a legion of adoring fans! She is currently in the recording studio with Aerosmith, Faith Hill, and Mick Jagger's producer, Marti Frederiksen, and has dominated the Billboard charts with tracks being played by the hottest DJ's worldwide.

Sarah has 2 top 40 hits "Fade Away" and "You Wouldn't Know How", a #1 UK hit "Fade Away", and her current single "It Doesn't Take Much" is #4 on Billboard!

Even in the midst of a hectic schedule, Sarah was gracious enough to give us an exclusive interview! Here's what she had to say....

HC: Your fans are anxiously awaiting the release of your next album! What can you tell us about the new tracks?
SARAH: The new tracks reflect my personal and distinct sensibilities. My lyrics, as always are unique and very "Sarah". I recorded this album all over the world, therefore it has a wonderful international flavor. I worked with Aerosmith's producer in L.A., giving the tracks a strong rock feel. My co-writer in New York and I brought the backdrop of Ibiza and the wild club scene into the mix. I walked the streets of Seddon, Australia to my producer's house to write and record cutting-edge and deeply meaningful works. I can't wait for you to hear them.

HC: I understand that you have an extensive background in dance and have trained at Alvin Ailey. How has this helped you with your performances and with life in general?
SARAH: I am very fortunate to have trained under the head of the jazz department at Alvin Ailey. Being a dancer is so much a part of me, that everything I do emanates from it. Dance has taught me discipline, respect, focus, hard work, joy, freedom, agony, and transcendence of the body. For me, on stage and in life, music and dance are inseparable. They are one.

HC: How did you know that this is what you were meant to do?
SARAH: I know that being an artist is what I am meant to do because of the way it makes me and others feel when I am creating and performing.

HC: You have a fabulous personal style! What or who inspires your fashion choices?
SARAH: Thank you. I find fashion to be fun. I am inspired by the energy and diversity of New York City. It is one of those rare places where on Wednesday night I am at the season opening of the New York City Ballet in a midnight blue Cinderella gown and on Thursday I could be at the latest club on the lower east side in my punk tartan skirt from Trash and Vaudeville. There are no limits to fashion. Be yourself.

HC: You've worked with so many people. Which collaboration stands out for you?
SARAH: I enjoy collaborating. It's as if you take a mixing bowl and throw in the ingredients, which are your co-writers different life experiences. Sometimes you have sweets to bake a cake and sometimes you end up with a masterpiece of a song from burnt pieces of toast and jam. One of my favorite songwriting partners is Chris Palmaro. I love every song he and I have ever written. We believe in music the same way.

HC: If you’re having a bad day what song will make you smile again?
SARAH: hahaha "Dancing in the Dark" by Bruce Springsteen. I say this because it's one of my favorite karaoke songs to sing with my best friend! A favorite memory of mine, is when we were together in Slovenia, eating ice-cream. The song came on the radio playing in the restaurant. We freaked! We sang/screamed the song all the way home dancing and laughing on the cobblestone streets of old world Ljubljana like crazy folks.

HC: What is your favorite "cheat" food?
SARAH: Ben and Jerry's half baked ice-cream. The deli by my house is open 24 hours a day. The 3 a.m. graveyard shift workers know my dog and me by name.

HC: What advice would you give to aspiring musicians and artists?
SARAH: Define success on your own terms.

HC: Thank you Sarah! You rock!

My last post was about the bell bottom/wide leg pants trend....which led me to this shoot....which made me look for 70's fashion videos (see below).....which made me go to my closet, pull out an afro wig, put it on with some knee socks and roller skates, roll over to my computer and blog for you!

O.K., I'm kidding about the last part....at least for now. :)

Bell Bottoms are Back Baby!

Actually, not just bell bottoms......wide leg pants, pants with a flair, and 90's style ruffled bells, all make the cut this season. Of course some of these styles will never leave my closet, but that's just me. :)

The skinny jean /pant still has it's place but it's always nice to have options right? Especially if you're having a cranky not so skinny day, there's nothing like a nice wide leg pant to take the focus off the dreaded bloat!

HOT HIPPIE LOOKS

There are lots of ways to rock your hippie look this coming season! Wide leg pants and bell bottoms are making a comeback.....playfully mixed prints work well.....and chunky rings and headbands can add flavor to any boho inspired outfit. There is however a right way to put it all together without looking like you are from the cast of "Hair"!

Here are a few great pics for your *ahem* inspiration folders, and one fine example of what is wrong.....oh, so wrong!

BIG HAIR IS BACK!

Yep, big hair is back! It probably all started with those Bumpits commercials but the trend is here to stay.....at least for now.

The good news is, it doesn't matter what decade you're into.....1960's, 70's, 80's.....it's all in!

Going for a mod 60's look? Teased hair at the crown, a little spray, possibly a headband, and you're all set! Want to catch a 70's afro vibe? Try a diffuser on the end of your hairdryer if you've got curly locks, dry with your head upside down and spray with hairspray. For stick straight hair it's best to grab a wig Louis Vuitton style (see picture 6 below). And for 80's rocker chic, there's nothing better than an old school crimping iron and a nice can of Aquanet!

So what do you guys think of the big hair trends?

A. I own Bumpits, backup Bumpits, 18 different products, and carry a teasing comb at all times just in case!

B. Eh, that looks like fun but I think my boyfriend, parents, boss or significant other might have a meltdown.

C. Motley Crue called, they want their hairspray back!

HOW TO BE A ROCKSTAR

So you wanna be a rockstar? Here's a few fun things to get ya started........

First, never forget your big dark sunglasses....even at night! You never know when the wild festivities will turn into early morning Denny's runs!

Second, mixing various prints just says "I'm a rockstar and I can wear anything I want!" Anything of the animal print variety will do quite nicely.

Always remember to program a taxi service on your cell in case you have a "dude where's my car" moment. Snapping your fingers for the limo driver can work as well. "Chop Chop!"

Remember, you don't have to play an instrument or even sing to be a rockstar....

It is perfectly acceptable to just sit there looking fierce!

Sometimes dating a rockstar guy can get you a "free pass" into the limelight...

But it's much sexier to be confident and independent!

Whether you're a guy or girl, leather and fur (preferably faux fur) should be a staple in your closet.

When in doubt, shred it! Shredding says, "No matter how rich I am, I'm still hardcore!"

Always sport your best pout for those pesky paparazzi photos, you never know where they'll end up!

No rockstar life is complete without spending at least one night at the Chelsea Hotel in NYC and channeling the Sid and Nancy vibe.

And last but not least.....have fun and enjoy your life! There is only one of you in the world, so no matter what anyone says, be the unique rockstar you were created to be!

O.K., I know there are mixed reviews about her. Some people love her....and others (probably just jealous!) heh heh *insert devious laugh here*

Anyway, love her or otherwise, the following video below is pretty funny. Lately there has been a comedian by the name of Amy Phillips who has been impersonating Rachel and posting it on Youtube. Instead of lashing back, Rachel, having the wonderful sense of humor that she does, embraced the comedian and decided to share the spotlight with her in the latest video called "The Zoeinator."

Fashion Forecast Fall / Winter 2010

With only a couple months left of this scorching heat, designers are starting to look ahead and gear up for the next season......and what a fabulous season it is! Every look is fun and lighthearted, not usual for those dreary, cold days! Lots of fur and fringe with a slight hint of bohemian glamour. Even the Calvin Klein model is rockin' a fierce feather hat!

Gucci continues to be my favorite even though nothing can top the 2008 Fall ad campaign! Then again, Frida Gianinni can do no wrong in my eyes!

Hey everybody, what's shakin'? I've been on holiday for a bit but will be posting regularly again. :)
