Despite their early exit from the NFL Playoffs this season the New England Patriots are once again favored to win the 2012 Super Bowl to be held in Indianapolis, Indiana on February 5th, 2012. The Patriots went 14-2 in the regular season and their young defense struggled in their NFL Divisional Playoff game against the New York Jets.

The following are the odds posted as of January 20th by the Las Vegas Hilton Superbook on all 32 teams with a brief synopsis on their pre draft chances to advance to and win Super Bowl XLVI on February 5th 2012.

Carolina Panthers 300-1

Ron Rivera takes over as the incoming coach for the Carolina Panthers and it will be a long season for the first time head coach. Rivera orchestrated the impressive San Diego Chargers defense in 2010 and the former Chicago Bears Super Bowl winner will bring his tenacity and grit to this team. Look for the Panthers to draft a defensive player with the first overall pick.

Buffalo Bills 200-1

The Buffalo Bills were a team in transition for the 2010 NFL season. They maintained a great attitude despite suffering bad break after bad break in the 2010 NFL season. CJ Spiller will have to step up this season after a disappointing rookie season. Ryan Fitzpatrick was a pleasant surprise in 2010 and he may have what it takes to be a top 15 NFL quarterback in the 2011 NFL season.

Seattle Seahawks 100-1

Talk about no respect! The Las Vegas Hilton Superbook has posted the Seattle Seahawks as the third longest shot to win the 2012 Super Bowl. Matt Hasselbeck will be a year older and Pete Carroll will have to capitalize on his teams run to the NFL Divisional Playoffs. Is 100-1 a good bet on Seattle? The short answer is no.

Denver Broncos 60-1

John Elway has taken over as the general manager fro the Denver Broncos and his first course of action was to hire former Carolina Panthers head coach John Fox. Fox was a steal after his Carolina Panthers went into a rebuilding mode in the 2010 NFL season. Fox will have to make a decision on Tim Tebow as the starting quarterback and he will have to decide if he wants to trade or keep Kyle Orton.

Arizona Cardinals 60-1

The Arizona Cardinals have been ripped asunder from their Super Bowl season just few short years ago. Larry Fitzgerald is the best player on the team and now the Cardinals will need to find a quarterback to get the ball to their high powered wide receivers. At 60-1 the Arizona Cardinalsare a good bet to win the Super Bowl if they acquire a good starting quarterback otherwise they are a pass.

St Louis Rams 60-1

Sam Bradford and a new offensive coordinator could be trouble if they build up their receiver depth through free agency and the NFL Draft. Bradford had a fantastic rookie season with a rag tag assortment of receivers in the 2010 NFL season. Look for the St Louis Rams to improve in 2011 and once the NFL Divisional odds are posted they may be a good bet to win the NFC West. Stay tuned.

Washington Redskins 60-1

Mike Shanahan is ripping this team down and reinventing it for the 2011 NFL season. He has ousted his two highest paid stars on the team and is working towards a goal for this team but no one but Shanahan knows what that goal is. Shanahan will focus on making his team in his image with his second NFL Draft since arriving in the nations capitol. The Washington Redskins will finish in the basement once again in the NFC East.

Jacksonville Jaguars 60-1

David Garrard had one of his best seasons as an NFL quarterback and having Maurice Jones-Drew in the back field never hurts a quarterback that loves to set up the play action pass. Defense will be the focus of the Jacksonville Jaguars in the NFL Draft and the will focus on finding some great secondary players.

Cincinnati Bengals 60-1

Carson Palmer is at the end of his career and Terrell Owens and Chad Ocho Cinco will depart from theCincinnati Bengals as well. The NFL Draft will be interesting this year for the Cincinnati Bengals since they need help in every facet of their team.

Cleveland Browns 60-1

Mike Holmgren is not a general manager to take lightly. His team is in the toughest division in the NFL and he will mold this team accordingly. He already has a good combination of offensive weapons. He has a power running back in Peyton Hillis and a wide receiver/wildcat option with Joshua Cribbs. Look for the Cleveland Browns to surprise teams again in the 2011 NFL season and notch a few more victories but they are still rebuilding.

Tennessee Titans 60-1

Jeff Fisher will be back to coach the Tennessee Titans which means he won the battle against Vince Young. Look for Fisher to search for a quarterback in the 2011 NFL season and look for Tennessee to once again struggle in the 2011 NFL season.

Detroit Lions 50-1

Matt Stafford has the potential to be a top ten NFL quarterback in the future but he will be growing into his skin in the 2011 NFL season. The Detroit Lions were a good play as underdogs last season but the sportsbooks will be making tighter lines on them in the 2011 NFL season. The Detroit Lions will be in Super Bowl form in one more year.

Oakland Raiders 50-1

The Oakland Raiders went 6-0 in the AFC West but they only won two games outside of their division. They lost two heart breakers in 2010 but they have a their core of coaches remaining with the team despite losing head coach Tom Cable. Oakland Raiders fans would be remiss if they do not take a shot on the Oakland Raiders at 50-1 and non fans might be smart to throw a small wager on this team.

San Francisco 49ers 40-1

Jim Harbaugh has inherited a strong team on both sides of the ball but it may be a little much to ask of Harbaugh to get this team to the Super Bowl and win. Check back later for odds to win the NFL Divisional titles. The 49ers will once again be a good pick to win the NFC West Division if they can secure a good quarterback.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 40-1

Raheem Morris made an incredible run in the 2010 NFL season. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers won 10 games and played well within the competitive NFC South Division. The 2011 NFL season will not be as kind to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Look for the Bucs to falter in 2011. They will win only eight to nine games as their divisional rivals adjust to them.

Minnesota Vikings 30-1

The Minnesota Vikings are in need of a quarterback and if they can secure a top ten quarterback they have an opportunity to make deep run in the competitive NFC North. Both sides of the ball have talent for the Minnesota Vikings and they are worth a look at 30-1. Take a shot at the Minnesota Vikings at 30-1 to win the 2012 NFL Super Bowl.

Miami Dolphins 30-1

The Miami Dolphins were a team in disarray as the 2010 NFL season came to a close. Tony Sparano was in jeopardy of being replaced when the season ended as the Dolphins courted Jim Harbaugh for the head coaching job. The Dolphins may win 8-9 games in 2011 but they have no chance to make a run in the NFL Playoffs.

Houston Texans 30-1

Matt Schaub and the Houston Texans will be much more comfortable with their new found running game in the 2011 NFL season. Schaub will be able to play action pass with Arian Foster in the back field and a healthy Andre Johnson will be a huge asset for the Houston Texans.

Defense will be the key for this team and the addition of Wade Phillips as the defensive coordinator will be a major addition. Take the Houston Texans at 30-1 to in the 2012 Super Bowl.

Kansas City Chiefs 30-1

The 2010 run of the Kansas City Chiefs was an aberration and they will return to form in the 2011 NFL season. The running game will still be the Chiefs calling card but they will need to improve their play calling against the better teams in the NFL.

Indianapolis Colts 18-1

Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts suffered through an exorbinant amount of injuries in the 2010 NFL season and they still made their way to within one point of making it to the NFL Divisional Playoffs. Look for Peyton Manning and the Colts to rebound in the 2011 NFL season with much better offensive production.

They will also focus on nabbing a solid run stopping safety in the 2011 NFL Draft to learn from oft injured veteran Bob Sanders. The Indianapolis Colts are a good bet at 18-1 win the 2012 NFL Super Bowl.

Dallas Cowboys 15-1

Tony Romo will be back and healthy to begin the 2011 NFL season and this will make the Dallas Cowboys and their talented offense an instant favorite to contend for for the 2012 Super Bowl. 15-1 is a good early number on the Cowboys and they are a team that can win 12 to 13 games in the 2011 NFL season. The Dallas Cowboys are the best bet at 15-1 to win the 2012 Super Bowl

Chicago Bears 15-1

The Chicago Bears made a deep run into the NFL Playoffs but they must learn to create more offensive chances under the new offense of Mike Martz. It is a growing process under new OC Martz and they could get better offensively and match the out put of their devastating defense.

Atlanta Falcons 15-1

The Atlanta Falcons must improve their defense if they want to advance deep into the NFL Playoffsand make a Super Bowl run during the 2011 NFL season. Matt Ryan is still developing as an NFL quarterback but the offense will not be what holds this team back. The Falcons are a couple of seasons away from a Super Bowl win.

New Orleans Saints 15-1

The New Orleans Saints had a bad season and still had plenty of chances late in their loss to the 7-9Seattle Seahawks in the NFL Wild Card Playoffs in the 2010 NFL season. Drew Brees will still be a top five quarterback and NFL MVP candidate in 2011 but the Saints will have to find some quick fixes in the NFL Draft on defense. Make a small wager on the New Orleans Saints to win the 2012Super Bowl as a cover bet.

New York Giants 15-1

Eli Manning and the New York Giants were inconsistent in the 2010 NFL season. They won ten games and they were one win away from making the NFL Playoffs. They have plenty of opportunity to make the NFL Playoffs and win an NFL Wild Card Playoff game but they have no chance of winning Super Bowl XLVI.

Philadelphia Eagles 12-1

Michael Vick is an exciting quarterback to watch but he cannot take the punishment fro 17 weeks and get his team to the next level. Andy Reid as shown he is not very good with his decision making under pressure which leads to one conclusion. He has no chance of winning the Super Bowl in 2012 or beyond.

San Diego Chargers 12-1

Norv Turner is another coach that will never win the Super Bowl. The team is talented and Phillip Rivers is a potential NFL MVP candidate every season. This talented team will never overcome their deadpan coach Norv Turner aka "Deputy Droopy Dog."

New York Jets 12-1

Rex Ryan has overcome the handicap of Mark Sanchez as his quarterback the last two seasons. If he does not make a change at quarterback in the 2011 NFL season it will be too much to overcome. This aggressive and hard hitting defense can only do so much to push this team to the next level. At 12-1 the odds are too short on the New York Jets.

Baltimore Ravens 12-1

The Baltimore Ravens offense never found themselves in the 2010 NFL campaign. Joe Flacco is a decent quarterback but he will never be an elite quarterback. If John Harbaugh wants to advance in the NFL Playoffs he may want to test the waters and find out if there is a veteran quarterback with a few years left in his career. Until then the Baltimore Ravens are an NFL Playoff team and nothing more.

Pittsburgh Steelers 10-1

The Pittsburgh Steelers defense was their strong suit in the 2010 NFL season. Believe it or not the defense may be better next season with Aaron Smith back in the lineup. Ben Roethlisberger will be a starter for the entire season and speedster Mike Wallace will have one more year of experience under his belt. The Steelers may be a good cover bet but 10-1 is a prohibitive futures bet.

Green Bay Packers 8-1

Aaron Rodgers must stay healthy for the Green Bay Packers to succeed. Teams will be throwing everything but the kitchen sink at Rodgers in the 2011 NFL season and he will suffer more than a few nagging injuries. The Green Bay Packers will make another deep run in 2011 and they will win 10 or more games but they are not a good bet to win the Super Bowl.

New England Patriots 5-1

5-1 on a futures bet? The sportsbooks are looking to fleece New England Patriots fans with this number. Tom Brady and his New England Patriots offense will see simple defensive schemes in the 2011 NFL season much like the New York Jets strategy. Never bet any future below 10-1.

Frazier, Vikings looking to draft for new QB

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP)—Leslie Frazier has his coaching staff pretty much assembled, and the decisions he made hint at the direction the Minnesota Vikings want to go as they look to replace quarterbackBrett Favre (notes).

Frazier tabbed Atlanta Falcons quarterbacks coach Bill Musgrave to run his offense, and Musgrave’s work in developing Matt Ryan (notes) into one of the most promising young arms in the league played a role in that decision.

Both Frazier and Musgrave say the best situation would be to find a young quarterback the Vikings can turn the offense over to right away.

“Ideally, you’d like to find the Matt Ryans of the world, the Joe Flaccos of the world and ride with one of those guys,” Frazier said Thursday. “But it doesn’t always happen that way. We just kind of have to see where things fall. If we find someone like that, you’d like to build around him. That really gives you a chance for the long term.”

The Vikings have a history of bringing in veterans in the twilight of their careers—Warren Moon, Jim McMahon,Brad Johnson (notes), Randall Cunningham, Jeff George, Gus Frerotte (notes) and Favre, all since 1993—and trying to squeeze a few more good years out of them.

They drafted and developed Daunte Culpepper (notes) into a six-year starter, but that has been the exception and not the rule in Minnesota. The Vikings draft 12th overall in April, and they could be leaning toward taking a quarterback in the first round again.

“Ideally, you would like to find a young guy that has a bunch of promise and potential and you would hand him the keys and let him make his mistakes and learn and but also know that he would be there for you in the long term,” Musgrave said. “I believe that will be one of our goals to identify any candidates that can fit that role, but at the same time be ready to find some other fellows that may have some experience, that can come in and be effective and also have some upside to them as well.”

The Vikings do have Joe Webb (notes), a rookie who started two games this season, on the roster already. And Frazier picked former Tennessee quarterbacks coach Craig Johnson to do the same job in Minnesota, which could make Vince Young (notes) an intriguing possibility.

If they decide to draft a quarterback in the first round, Missouri’s Blaine Gabbert, Auburn’s Cam Newton, Washington’s Jake Locker and Arkansas’ Ryan Mallett are considered the top prospects.

That’s where Musgrave comes in.

“He’s done a great job of developing a young quarterback in Matt Ryan and we’re in a position where we’re going to have to do something similar, at least we expect to,” Frazier said.

With Adrian Peterson, Percy Harvin (notes) and Visanthe Shiancoe (notes) on the roster, the transition from college to the pros could be smoother in Minnesota than other places. And Musgrave said he would bring with him an offense that is easy to learn.

“We’ll make it very streamlined,” Musgrave said. “We’ll make the formations easy to learn for the guys, because I believe in players playing fast. We don’t want them out there thinking what word was used for this or that.”

Top backup quarterback Tarvaris Jackson (notes), who went on season-ending injured reserve with turf toe late in the year, has an expiring contract.

Frazier also announced that former Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator Jeff Davidson was joining the staff as offensive line coach.

He’ll have much more familiarity with the defensive staff, where most of the group from last season remains intact, including Fred Pagac as defensive coordinator. The one notable addition is Hall of Famer Mike Singletary, who will coach linebackers and serve as a special assistant to Frazier.

Singletary and Frazier have been close friends for more than two decades, dating to their playing days with theChicago Bears. Singletary was fired as coach of the San Francisco 49ers but said he never considered taking a year off before jumping back into the coaching ranks.

“I couldn’t sit back or take a step back if I wanted to,” Singletary said. “Coaching is something that I love to do. I don’t know how guys could sit out for a year. I guess everybody is different. But for me a couple of weeks was enough. I’m ready to go.”

The focus of Monday's press conference was supposed to be on LSU junior cornerback Patrick Peterson.

But the attention immediately turned to the future of LSU coach Les Miles after Peterson finished talking about foregoing his senior season to enter the NFL draft.

Multiple reports indicated that Miles and Michigan Athletic Director Dave Brandon met Monday night in Baton Rouge to discuss Michigan's job opening. LSU sports information director Michael Bonnette confirmed that the meeting took place Monday night, according to ESPN.com. After the meeting, Brandon flew back to Michigan.

ESPN.com college football analyst Joe Schad reported Monday afternoon that a source told him Miles would accept the coaching position at Michigan if he was offered.

The New Orleans Times-Picayune refuted that report Monday night after receiving word from a high-ranking LSU official that stated "Don't worry. He's not leaving."

After Miles spoke briefly about Peterson and Peterson himself announced his plans to enter the NFL, Miles came back to the podium and added insight on the rumors linking the sixth-year LSU coach to Michigan.

"To this point in time, I've not talked to anyone from Michigan nor has any of my representation done anything but have very distant conversation with representatives that would represent the school," Miles said.

Michigan fired former coach Rich Rodriguez last week, and Miles, a former Wolverine player and assistant coach, is a candidate for the position.

"I'm told we will speak but that time and place has not been identified," Miles said. "It's hard for me to speculate to the substance of that meeting."

Early reports indicated Miles would meet with Michigan officials Tuesday while he is in Dallas for the American Football Coaches Association's annual convention. The headquarters of Miles' agent, George Bass, is located in Dallas. But Michigan got Miles earlier than anticipated with the Monday night meeting.

Miles has been mum up to this point among the rabid speculation. Despite the late night meeting, Miles expressed his desire to stay with LSU on Monday afternoon.

"I want to return right here," Miles said. "I'm extremely happy here ... I have a real comfort with my family in Baton Rouge."

LSU athletic director Joe Alleva released a statement Monday after the press conference regarding Miles' interest in Michigan.

"I can certainly understand Coach Miles' desire to accommodate his alma mater by speaking with them during their coaching search," Alleva said. "We remain committed to working toward keeping Les Miles as the head of the LSU football program, a program that wins at a high level, graduates its student-athletes and represents the university well in the community under his leadership."

Miles' statement overshadowed Peterson's declaration to the draft, where he is projected as a top-5 pick.

"These three years at LSU, this place will never be forgotten by me," Peterson said. "I'm definitely bleeding purple and gold."

Peterson said he aims to be the highest cornerback taken in the draft. The previous highest picked defensive back was former Seattle Seahawks cornerback Shawn Springs, who was picked third overall in 1997.

"I have huge goals for myself," Peterson said. "I hope to be the No. 1 pick.

Peterson's decision comes without knowing the fate of the NFL for next season. The current collective bargaining agreement expires March 3, but even if there is a lockout, there will still be a draft. The biggest question is whether or not Peterson's salary will be affected.

Peterson wouldn't be paid during the lockout, but could still receive money from whatever agency he signs with. The obstacles with the NFL, however, didn't deter Peterson from declaring.

"I got pretty good advice ... I don't think it's going to be a lockout," he said. "This decision was a no brainer."

Report: Haley stripped play-calling duties from Weis

As pointed out (I think) in the first segment of today’s edition of ProFootballTalke Live and then reiterated (I know) in the third segment, the Chiefs’ horrendous offensive performance in the second half of Sunday’s 30-7 wild-card loss to the Ravens suggests that few if any meaningful halftime adjustments were made. Which suggests that the issues that prompted offensive coordinator Charlie Weis to take the same job with a college program potentially prevented Weis and coach Todd Haley from working effectively and cooperatively bubbled up during the 12-minute window between the second and third quarters.

As it turns out, those issues boiled over.

Bob Fescoe of 610 Sports in Kansas City reports that Haley stripped Weis of the play-calling duties during the second half of the game. Which means that the horrendous showing is on the shoulders not of the guy who left the team, but of the guy who’ll still be there.

The news confirms Jason Whitlock’s in-game instincts. After the Chiefs tried to run a sweep on fourth and short early in the second half, Whitlock said via Twitter: “Todd Haley, ladies and gentlemen. He just put his stamp on the game with 4th-down call. And trust me, that was all Haley.”

It was all Haley. For all of the second half.

Moving forward, the Chiefs have a real problem. Haley is believed to be too insecure to welcome a highly competent offensive coordinator. Instead, he’ll want someone over whom he can lord — and on whom he can place blame if things don’t go well.

At some point, it’ll become fair to ask whether G.M. Scott Pioli should be aiming one level higher than offensive coordinator when it comes to the question of filling vacant jobs.

Is Johnson using Simpson for the publicity? He may be barking up the wrong tree. Whatever happens, the 2010 NFL Schedule is set and Tony Romo will be in the spotlight once again. Can Romo take his team to the Super Bowl now that he’s red flagged Simpson. Look at the 2011 Super Bowl Odds and decide for yourself.

Before the upcoming playoff battle in Arrowhead Stadium, I would like to assume the role as spokesperson for the Chiefs Nation, and more specifically the Addicts here at Arrowhead Addict. I know that we need no introduction as you probably read our site as often as anyone else, so I will spare rehashing things you already know; for instance that we are the best Kansas City Chief’s blog on the internet. During your mid week preparation I feel that it is our duty to let you know a few things that we feel very strongly about concerning your organization, and the team you have built these past two years.

First and foremost we would like to say congratulations for the season you and your team have had. It has been very exciting for all of us to go through the ups, downs, and situational head scratching to ultimately finish the season with an AFC West title that we all take pride in. It has been too long since we tasted sweet victory over our rivals, and this year has been the light at the end of a long black spiraling tunnel our fan base has traveled through the past several years. For this we are grateful.

Remember as you read this that although we have no monetary ties to the team other than the countless millions we have invested in Chiefs paraphernalia, tickets, parking passes etc, we have just as much emotional and personal investment in this team (and possibly more) than any one of your players or staff members. We are the reason that your team exists, and the tax money from Jackson County is the reason you have an awesome newly renovated stadium to play in. On top of that the legendary home field advantage you gain from us is feared throughout the NFL, and is one of the reasons you and your team will not be watching the playoffs from home this year. So although this letter contains things you may not want to hear from us, I feel you owe it to the Addicts to continue reading…

As far as the offensive coordinator situation is concerned, we understand that breakups are hard and the split with Charlie Weis is probably difficult for you. We want to offer you our sympathy, and hope that you can get through this tough time without debasing yourself to calling and leaving an embarrassing amount of voice messages, or playing 80’s love ballads on your boom box outside of Charlie’s window. There are other coordinators in the sea, and it was not meant to be. Remember: If you love someone, let them go to Florida. If they come back then they are yours forever. Until that happens think of us as your metaphorical shoulder to cry on. Please know that we understand that it is difficult to work with someone after a breakup, but the focus needs to be on winning this game against the Baltimore Ravens. We cannot afford another horrible showing from the Chiefs because it is now awkward for you and Charlie to see each other in the halls and at team meetings.

I think that at this point in the head coach/fan base relationship we can now talk to you about some things we see that we feel need to change going into next week’s playoff matchup. Do not take these as polite suggestions. These are demands. I know this sounds a little harsh, but I do not think we have been direct enough with you and you need to understand that we only want what is best for the team. Sometimes it takes an outsider’s perspective to see what you cannot. Please read the list below as I have them itemized them in order of importance:

Number One: You must win this game. Besides the fact that we have placed a lot of our hearts into this team and need to advance in the playoffs, you CANNOT allow this glorious institution and its supporters to set a record for playoff futility. Seven straight “one-and-done’s” is not a record we will allow our team to hold. Period.

Number Two: Jamaal Charles needs to be the starting back for the game against the Ravens. Write this down. See, it is not that we hate Thomas Jones, but it is time to dance with the girl that brought you. The Chiefs have the best rushing attack in football because they have a running back that is rivaling Jim Brown in yards per carry for a single season and for an entire career. This is someone special, and to win against Baltimore he will need to be your featured back. Jones can still be in the game for relief (hopefully after many 50+ yard runs), but it is time to let Charles take over as lead back.

Number Three: Andy Studebaker needs to start over Mike Vrabel. Understand that we are not questioning the work ethic, leadership, or career of Vrabel. If you watch film from games, which obviously you do, it should be obvious that Vrabel cannot rush the passer like he used to and gets beat in containment around the edge more often than not. Our team cannot afford to have Mike out there with Rice being the strong back that he is. He needs to be in the game only to spell Studebaker.

Number Four: Although I have been a strong supporter of your four down territory philosophy, a lot of the Addicts have not. In a playoff game against a team like Baltimore it is imperative that KC scores every time they are in scoring position. We have a good kicker in Ryan Succop a.k.a. “Mr. Irrelevant,” and if the winds are not swirling take the points. This is not a game where you can afford to be garish and try to teach your team something. I know they have learned enough from this year that they understand what to do if you get into a situation where you must go for it on fourth down. There is no need to press this issue to the detriment of your playoff run.

I hope these demands are not offensive to you, but as long as you follow them to the “T” we will not be upset if you are displeased with us for bringing it up. We feel that they are fair demands and not without merit. We understand that you are a person of great pride, so we understand that we may not get credit for the positive results they produce. We do not require any praise for helping the team. We simply want to see another Super Bowl trophy in the Hall of Honor at Arrowhead. I do not think it is too much to ask for after 40 years of waiting.

With all of that business out of the way I do want you to know that we are going to be at the game in full force as a part of the Sea of Red in the greatest damn stadium in the NFL as we root for the best damn team in the NFL. We will be tailgating the night before if security allows, and be full of piss and vinegar every time Flacco and company take the field. We will try our damnedest to throw those crows off of their game to give the Chiefs every advantage possible. We are looking forward to being part of the success of this team in the playoffs more than anything.

Again we would like to thank you for being an integral part in bringing this team from obscurity into the ratified air of the postseason. It feels good to be a Chiefs fan again. Good luck, and as always GO CHIEFS!!!

If you’re betting on the Baltimore Ravens – as you should be doing – for their AFC Wild Card Weekend matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs then do it now before the NFL betting odds see some heavy movement.

The Ravens (12-4 SU, 8-7-1 ATS) opened as 2.5-point favorites against the Chiefs (10-6 SU, 9-7 ATS), but well over 70% of wagers on the spread had come in on them as of press time.

Some sportsbooks had already adjusted the line to Baltimore -3, but I expect even further NFL odds movement before kickoff. If the current consensus trends continue, the Ravens will be giving at least four points to the Chiefs by the time the teams hit the field.

The general manager position for the 49ers reportedly came down to Trent Baalke and Mike Lombardi, with both reportedly being approved by potential head coach Jim Harbaugh. The announcement is now official, per the San Jose Mercury News, that the 49ers have promoted from within to make Trent Baalke their new general manager.

Baalke has been with the 49ers for six years and spent this past season as the vice president of player personnel. He oversaw the team's 2010 NFL Draft.

Now that a general manager has been hired, the attention will now turn to hiring a new head coach, and speculation has been that Stanford head coach Jim Harbaugh is going to be the next coach for the 49ers with an announcement as early as Wednesday.

Harbaugh has also reportedly been offered a voice in team personnel decisions if he indeed does become the new Niners coach.

After he was named to the AFC Pro Bowl team, the Denver Broncos' wide receiver was asked if he would like to say 'told you so' to his former teams, the San Francisco 49ers, Washington Redskins (with whom he was a 'bust of the decade') and Chicago Bears.

'No, I want to say, '[Bleep] you.' ' he said in a reportedly half-serious, half-good-naturedly way. 'And I mean that in the most professional way.'

Brandon Lloyd was the only Broncos player to make the AFC Pro Bowl squad and to help mark the occasion, the team arranged for the local media to join him on a conference call.

Lloyd was extremely thoughtful, humble and appreciative until near the end of the conference call when he admitted to taking some personal satisfaction in showing his previous teams in San Francisco, Washington and Chicago that they were mistaken about the type of receiver he could become.

Asked if he wanted to tell those three teams: ”told you so,” Lloyd said half-good naturedly, half-seriously: “”No, I want to say, ‘(Bleep) you.’ And I mean that in the most professional way.”

After about 3 seconds of stunned silence, Broncos media relations director Patrick Smyth jumped into the call: “Anything else for Brandon, guys? I have receivers coach Adam Gase here … ”"

NFL fines Brett Favre $50,000 for lack of cooperation in investigation

The NFL has fined Brett Favre $50,000 for lack of cooperation with its investigation into improper emails and text messages he allegedly sent Jenn Sterger when both were employed by the New York Jets two years ago.

The league, however, said it could find no violation of its personal conduct policy by Favre, who, at 41, has said that this will be his final season. He has admitted leaving voice messages for Sterger, but the league said its forensic analysis could not determine whether he sent lewd photos to her. Sterger's representative blasted the news of the fine.

"My client and I are extremely disappointed, but not surprised, at today's NFL announcement that Brett Favre did not violate the NFL 'workplace conduct' policy," Sterger's lawyer, Joseph Conway, said in astatement. "While I am not privy to how [NFL Commissioner] Mr. Goodell reached such a finding, we strongly disagree with his conclusion that there was insufficient evidence to support a violation of the policy.

"To the contrary, our evidence and the personal testimony of Ms. Sterger clearly showed a pattern of lewd and offensive behavior by Mr. Favre that lasted all of the 2008 season. As noted in the NFL's release, 'there was no evidence to suggest that Sterger engaged in any inappropriate conduct.' In addition to the offensive messages, there was ample evidence to show that the sexually explicit photographs were part of Favre's inappropriate behavior. Our evidence clearly showed that the photos were sent by Favre."

The league's statement:

The NFL office conducted an investigation to determine whether Brett Favre's interaction with New York Jets game-day employee Jenn Sterger in 2008 violated the NFL Personal Conduct Policy.

In reviewing the matter, the sole focus was on whether there was a violation of league policies regarding conduct in the workplace. NFL policies do not extend to private conduct or make judgments about the appropriateness of personal relationships, except where that conduct or those relationships raise issues under the law or league policies.

The investigation included an analysis of publicly available reports; a series of interviews with knowledgeable individuals, including Sterger and Favre; a review of communications between the two furnished to our office; and independent forensic analysis of electronically stored material. The investigation was limited in several respects because the conduct occurred in 2008 but was not brought to our attention until this fall. As a result, certain records and individuals were unavailable to the NFL.

The investigation also reviewed a second media report about allegations involving other women who worked at the Jets' facility in 2008. Misconduct by Favre regarding that claim was unable to be substantiated because individuals with potentially relevant information declined to be interviewed or otherwise cooperate with the investigation. In addition, our investigation took longer than might ordinarily have been the case due to difficulties in arranging to speak with certain key individuals, the time required to retrieve and review stored electronic records, and Commissioner Roger Goodell's decision to meet personally with both Favre and Sterger before making a decision.

On the basis of the evidence currently available to him, Commissioner Goodell could not conclude that Favre violated league policies relating to workplace conduct. The forensic analysis could not establish that Favre sent the objectionable photographs to Sterger. The review found no evidence to contradict the statements of both Favre and Sterger that they never met in person, nor was there anything to suggest that Sterger engaged in any inappropriate conduct.

However, Commissioner Goodell also determined that Favre was not candid in several respects during the investigation, resulting in a longer review and additional negative public attention for Favre, Sterger, and the NFL. The commissioner notified Favre that he has been fined $50,000 for his failure to cooperate with the investigation in a forthcoming manner. Commissioner Goodell stated to Favre that if he had found a violation of the league's workplace conduct policies, he would have imposed a substantially higher level of discipline.

In a memo to clubs today, Commissioner Goodell reminded them of the serious nature of this matter and stated that NFL policies make no excuses for improper or potentially unlawful conduct in the workplace. "Every member of every club's staff should be able to work in an environment free of harassment or hostility, and one in which every employee is valued, respected, and given a full opportunity to contribute to the goals of the club and the NFL," Commissioner Goodell said. "Our new training program on workplace conduct will help all of us to promote the right kind of environment for all employees and I intend to dedicate the fine I have imposed on Favre to help fund that training program."

You don't need Rotoworld to tell you that Sam Bradford has a bright future as a fantasy quarterback.

Ditto Mike Williams and LaGarrette Blount: for the two rookie stars of the Buccaneers offense, the future is now. Heck, forget about next year: Bradford, Blount and Williams make great starters if your league extends into Week 17!

Your fantasy season is probably over, and postseason fantasy leagues are still a week away, so it's time to talk about rookie keepers. Some of this year's rookies are worth stashing away for 2011. Some should just be tossed back in the draft pool. If your league only allows one or two keepers, you cannot afford to keep the wrong guy. The following list grades the 2011 potential for 15 rookies, with a deeper look at why some should be nurtured while others should be abandoned.

Arrelious Benn, C-minus
If you drafted the wrong Buccaneers rookie receiver, take heart. Benn has just eight catches in the last three games, but seven of them netted first downs, including 64 and 43 yarders. With his size, he could still emerge as Josh Freeman's favorite red zone weapon, or as a 60-catch possession complement to Williams.

Jahvid Best: B-minus
Best's future may be as a complementary back and receiver out of the backfield. Best gained two yards or less on 99 of his 161 carries, resulting in a lot of 17-35-0 stat lines. His big play potential is undeniable, and he is worth more in PPR leagues, but the Lions haven't produced a fantasy workhouse back in years, and Best has "committee" written all over him. Still, it's better to keep a potential RB3 than a TE1.

Dez Bryant: A-minus
Before getting hurt, Bryant displayed dazzling big-play ability, had a well-defined role in the Cowboys offense, and most importantly, was a personal favorite of Jerry Jones. The Cowboys loved to use Bryant on receiver screens and other super-short passes, throwing 29 passes to him that traveled less than five yards in the air. Three screens per game can do wonders for a receiver's fantasy potential, and Bryant scored four touchdowns and had a 46-yard run on these short passes. Will the next coach be as enamored of Bryant as Jason Garrett was? As long as Emperor Jones makes the final decisions, it doesn't matter. The only person keeping Bryant from earning a solid A rating is Miles Austin.

Jimmy Clausen: D
The Panthers may want to wait on Clausen, but that doesn't mean you should. The Panthers let Clausen throw tons of short passes to get comfortable in the offense: on passes that traveled five yards or less in the air, he was 74-of-125 for 505 yards. Take those micro-passes out of his statistics, and Clausen completed only 45.3 percent of his throws downfield. Don't blame the offense: Steve Smithonly missed one game, David Gettis and Brandon LaFell are solid "C" prospects, and the offensive line was pretty good. The upside for Clausen next year is one of those 2500-yard, 12-touchdown seasons developing quarterbacks often have for rebuilding teams. You don't need that.

Jacoby Ford: D
Ford is fun to watch, and he is worth more in a league with big bonuses for long touchdowns. But he has only been targeted 17 times in the last four games, and waiting around for rushing touchdowns by a receiver will kill you.

Toby Gerhart: C-plus
If you drafted Gerhart as either an Adrian Peterson handcuff or an insurance policy, you have to be happy with the results: he was productive when called upon last week, and he filled his niche as Peterson's change-up back fairly well. Gerhart should fill the same role for next season; keep him, and the guy who drafts Peterson will want to talk trade with you right after next year's draft.

Jermaine Gresham: B-minus
Gresham caught an amazing number of unproductive passes early in the season: he had 33 catches of eight yards or less, only eight of which netted a first down or touchdown. In recent weeks, he has cut loose, with four catches of 20 or more yards in the last three games. It's almost as if Gresham needed two loudmouth nitwits to disappear before he could assume a sensible role in the offense.

Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez: B
The problem with these guys is that there are two of them: eventually, one is going to leech catches and red zone opportunities away from the other. Right now, Gronkowski appears to have the edge, but it is nothing worth betting your season on. If you are only allowed to keep one player, think twice before keeping a tight end: remember how replaceable they are. Gresham could easily out-produce both Patriots next year, just because he won't have to split his opportunities.

Chris Ivory: A-minus
According to Football Outsiders, Ivory led the NFL in Success Rate, which is like a batting average for running backs: he had the league's best percentage of move-the-chains type runs. As a power back in an offense that will be great again next year, Ivory will get a lot of red zone opportunities. The Saints will still throw 400 passes per game and use fifty different personnel packages, so be ready for a lot of 12-50-1 stat lines if you keep Ivory.

Ryan Mathews: C
Here's a stat that will strike fear into any fantasy owner: seven red zone carries, zero touchdowns. Mathews looks good on the game tape and is more versatile than the other Chargers running backs, but he is the kind of runner whose touches get whittled away from all sides: Darren Sproles gets the catches, Mike Tolbert gets the goal line carries, and Mathews gets stuck in 15-60-0 purgatory.

Colt McCoy: C-minus
McCoy should develop into a fine NFL quarterback, and his running ability adds some fantasy value, but it's a stretch to project him as anything but a QB3 for 2011. His receiving corps is weak, and once the "plucky underdog" charm wore off, we saw that he was just another rookie with a lot to learn.

C.J. Spiller: D
Spiller hasn't had more than nine carries in a game, and he hasn't distinguished himself as a receiver (30 targets). Fred Jackson is a better all-around back, so Spiller appears stuck in a role as a complementary back and return man for the foreseeable future.

Tim Tebow: A-plus
To be clear, we are talking about fantasy football here. As an NFL starter, Tebow still needs a lot of refinement. As a fantasy prospect, he is all you could ask for. With 18 carries and two touchdowns in his two starts, he's a lock to rack up rushing yards. With Brandon Lloyd leading a receiving corps full of young talent, he has great weapons. And with incredible fan support and a new coach coming to town, he has enviable job security for a young quarterback. Tebow could go 6-10 as a starter next year, but if he's throwing for 200 yards and a touchdown while running for 50 yards and a touchdown every week, you won't care.

Demaryius Thomas: D
Thomas suffered multiple injuries and got lost in the shuffle as Brandon Lloydemerged as a go-to receiver. Thomas is not a lost cause, and his blocking makes him a great fit in a running-and-Tebow based offense, but that won't help your fantasy team.

Adrian Peterson (thigh/knee) said he will play against the Eagles Tuesday night.
Coach Leslie Frazier is leaving the questionable tag on Peterson, but at this point it would be a surprise if Peterson sits. Even Peterson's dad said he expects his son to play. With Joe Webb the likely starter, the Vikings will rely heavily on the running game. Peterson is a strong bet for 20-plus touches with Toby Gerhart mixing in as well.

Four Georgia Tech players, including starting safety Mario Edwards and starting wide receiver Stephen Hill, will miss the Independence Bowl because of academic issues.

In addition to Edwards and Hill, both of whom failed to meet Tech’s academic standards, reserve defensive lineman Robert Hall and reserve outside linebacker Anthony Barnes aren’t eligible to play because of their failure to meet the NCAA’s academic requirements, according to a statement from the school. There is some irony involved: Hall graduated in the spring, Barnes in the summer.

The Yellow Jackets (6-6) will play Air Force (8-4) on Monday night in Shreveport, La.

Hill, a sophomore from Lithonia, led the Jackets in receptions (15), receiving yards (291) and touchdown receptions (3) this season. He started nine games. He also rushed three times for 34 yards. Hill’s absence means Tech has just four receivers who have caught passes this season: Correy Earls (8 receptions, 56 yards, 1 touchdown), Tyler Melton (5 receptions, 96 yards, 1 TD), Kevin Cone (5 receptions, 89 yards, 1 TD) and Daniel McKayhan (1 reception, 13 yards). Another wide receiver, reserve Quentin Sims, announced he was transferring earlier this week.

Edwards, a senior from College Park, was Tech’s third-leading tackler (68). He started every game this season. True freshman Isaiah Johnson could start in Edwards’ place. Johnson, who started three games earlier this season, had 41 tackles and an interception. Tech was already thin at the position because Cooper Taylor left the team earlier this season. Rashaad Reid has experience at safety. Dominique Reese played safety last season before moving to cornerback.

News: Lions QB Shaun Hill healed up from his finger injury and was named the starter for Week 16 at Miami. Drew Stanton will back him up.
Analysis: Hill played well earlier this season and could put up some decent numbers in Week 16 against a Miami defense that looked shaky at times in Week 15, allowing Ryan Fitzpatrick to throw a pair of touchdowns. Hill will be a little rusty though and could well re-injure that finger, so consider him a No. 2 Fantasy option at best."
