Chloe Magazine & Pink Tartan Party!

2014-11-05T14:12:00.001-08:00

A couple of months ago I attended the Chloe Magazine and Pink Tartan event. My hard drive crashed and I lost the photo’s so I never got a chance to complete the post. After $700 I finally got all my photo’s and documents back so here it is. A great event partnered the magazine with the desginer retailer at her Yorkville store. As always Pink Tartan is beautiful luxury, with bright colored shirts, feminine skirts and floral dresses.

I loved the simplicity of her outfit in black and white and these amazing heel’s I was obsessed with.

Sneak Peak / Lacoste Fall 2014

2014-03-18T17:26:00.001-07:00

Today I went and previewed the Fall 2014 Lacoste collection. I loved the runway, my favorite was the first outfit pictured above. There wasn’t too much that Canada has coming in from the runway. But the few pieces they did buy are great. I saw some great accessories, in pastels and great red’s and blues. The ever famous Lacoste polo in an array of colors. The fall collection rolls out to Lacoste stores across Canada in July til October.

Toronto Fashion Week / Mikhael Kale FW 2014

2014-03-18T15:30:00.001-07:00

Mikhael Kale Opens World MasterCard Fashion Week with sexy cutouts, high-impact prints and abstract shapes

So yesterday I attended my first official Toronto Fashion Week show for Fall/Winter 2014. Held at David Pecaut Square in Toronto, the official home to TFW. It was an amazing collection, Mikhael has dressed such celebrities as Beyonce. When I was an Assistant Buyer at Holt Renfrew I purchased his first collection at that time he had collaborated with Rita Liefhebber before branching out on his own.

Tonight, Mikhael Kale rocked the World MasterCard Fashion Week runway with a show that was ultra-modern and supremely feminine. With layers of organza, folded silks, daring prints, and studded leather, Kale showcased a collection that while dominated with detailed embellishments, never compromised on sexiness or edge. Using both technology and print design, Kale built a collection that featured vibrant colours and played with textured flourishes.

“I approached AW14 with a desire to utilize both technology and print in my designs. Generally, I play with two main components when building a collection,” says Kale. “First, when considering a technique for this season, I was inspired by the folding of napkins. I manipulated organza in order to use it as an embellishment on my pieces. Secondly, I shifted my focus to the prints involved, which also help in bringing a collection to life.”

After studying at London's Central Saint Martins, in 2003 Mikhael Kale began working in Milan for labels such as Antonio Marras and Bally. In 2007, Mikhael began his eponymous label “Mikhael Kale,” and has since been featured in The New York Times Style Magazine, WWD, and Nylon and dressed celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, Katy Perry, Sienna Miller and Beyoncé. Kale’s recent shows have been touted as “masterpieces” “luxurious” “ultra-cool” and “contemporary”.

“For this season, I created a print that was meant to mimic a stained silk napkin,” Kale explains. “To begin with, I played with colored dye on fabric, instead of paper, and then photographed these pseudo prints. We later used photoshop to manipulate the images. In recent years, inkjet printing has become a favorite print process of mine in the development of my collections.”

Showing for the first time in the tents, Kale’s collection was one of the most highly anticipated of WMCFW.

“I’m really excited to be able to show as part of World MasterCard Fashion Week. Having the opportunity to show my designs in the city I live in and for some of my most supportive clients is extremely rewarding”, says Kale.

The ShOws / Antonio Azzuolo Fall 2014

2014-03-17T11:43:00.001-07:00

I was invited to the runway show for Antonio Azzuolo last week. It was the only show that had a men’s collection as well as women’s ready to wear. The collection was very interesting in it’s shapes, and the silhouettes are clean and stream lined and the collection had an androgynous feel. The over all look was very muted in it’s color palette with mostly black, grey and white, but he incorporated pops of color through out. Take a look at the collection below, enjoy!

Are Men Starting To Dress Like Female Fashion Editors?!

2014-01-20T06:27:00.001-08:00

We know by now that wearing your coat around your shoulders like a cape has became one of those styling tricks that somehow signals to others that you are chic and most certainly work in fashion (same goes for the new “tucking your hair into a turtleneck” movement), but it looks ridiculous. Well, OK, it was mildly interesting as first, like, “Oh, cool, it looks like she was out late at the theater and got chilly so her beau gallantly draped his overcoat around her tiny frame.” But then more and more women started doing it, and now the whole thing has a whiff of “keeping up with the high school in-crowd” conformity…(read more)

Sneak Peak: French Connection Spring 2014

2013-11-20T06:26:00.001-08:00

“To start the Spring Summer season, French Connection introduces a transitional package of Summer tweeds. Texture is added through traditional herringbone, Prince of Wales check and cables while grindle yarns lend a thrifty vintage effect to shirting and knitwear. Embroidery and floral prints feature throughout the collection, maintaining the collection’s relaxed and casual feel. Playful, yet masculine western shirting also features, nodding to the fun “cowboys and Indian” theme seen on the runway.”

Cutting and sewing classic fabrics together adds innovation and detail to the modern man’s wardrobe. Ranging from the classic polo shirt with a full placket poplin front to the more modern cable knit jumper with a sweatshirt back, unusual combinations of fabrics and prints are re-worked and updated with new scales and proportions. Clean nylons and stretch cottons offer a sporty approach to men’s classic garments tapping into the ever popular sports luxe trend.

A nod to safari is also apparent with striking all-over animal prints on vintage khaki bases. Multi army pockets adorn jackets, shorts and trousers to calm the abundance of pattern and animal camouflage which offers a subtle alternative for those less brave.

The French Connection Jeans collection is inspired by traditional ethnic crafts of Indigo dying, repairing and decorative stitch. Denims are distressed and dirty, with design influences from the workers who wore them. Teamed with traditional military jackets with modern asymmetric closure and sweatshirt linings, the silhouettes are simple yet versatile and easy to wear.

Traditional English studio pottery makers inspire new melange sweatshirt and tees with a focus on hues of stone and porcelain. Natural linens and slubby fabrics reflect the roughness and honesty of the trade. Hand-crafted elements of panel printing, Chinese print, hand-painted camouflage and hand-embroidered fairisles highlight the collection’s dedication to skills and authenticity.
