Manny Pacquiao is the first Asian to win four boxing title belts. Pacquiao knocks out David Diaz in the 9th round to win the WBC Lightweight Championship at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

Manny cut David Diaz in the 4th round, after which he dominated. In the 9th round, Pacquiao lands a right-left comibination which sent Diaz facedown to the mat.

Manny displayed speed and prowess in what seems to be his best fight as of the moment. He got it on at the center of the ring, all the time avoiding Diaz's "brawler" style. He made use of his right jab to avoid Diaz's attacks. Moving up to lightweight was not a problem for him.

The event was graced by the presence of the Boston Celtics, which Manny Pacquiao openly supported during the NBA Finals.

Procrastinator, Betamax, and the extra CD with remixes of their past hits.

Those were the three, make that four[plus the stickersXD] reasons why I bought Sandwich's new album <> Marks The Spot. And also, being an anti-OPM piracy advocate, I'd rather not eat breakfast for a week than infringe the copyrights of our great great Filipino artists[Mamatay ang mga pirata ng OPM!!!]. Uhrm. Anyway.

So yeah. There were only five reasons at the beginning. But when I ripped open the CD's plastic packaging, started listening to it, reading the lyrics, several more reasons flooded me:

The cool packaging. The sleeve design was well done, as it had that artsy and abstract-ish Pinoy look. It's either that or I was feeling patriotic at that time.
In the lyrics page, they had maps[or whatever you may call that] of Bulacan and Manila, among other places. Asteeg.
The remixes were better than expected. They had five consecutive DVDX remixes[Myrene's was the best], and I didn't get tired of listening. The bonus CD had Zaido, too.
The new songs were great. Call me mababaw, but I was surprised to hear and read something like this in one of their songs:

"...text if you wanna sex me,
beep if you wanna sleep..."
[hehe. pretty out of character, I must say.]

The album, overall, had a classy Manila rock feel that's more Sandwich-ish and less Hotdog-ish. Good for a rainy day.

The Celtics overcome a late Lakers rally, go up 2-0 in the NBA Finals.

I was somewhere in my head, dreaming, when I felt something. It was my phone, vibrating. I took the phone, read the messages, and then hung like a Pentium 1 trying to run Quake 3.

"Oh, shit."

Celtics-Lakers, Celtics-Lakers, Celtics-Lakers. With hopes of seeing at least the second half action, I quickly sprung out of my bed, plugged the cable box, clicked 6-2 in its analog, and then turned the TV on.

To my dismay, the fourth quarter was about to start. Won't be able to turn back time, so pwede na din.

The Celtics were up twenty. Gasol, Odom, Garnett, and Pierce were on the bench.

With only Kobe and Allen on the floor, this Game 2 of a star-studded Finals match-up seemed over. Leon Powe was having the game of his life, while the Lakers reserves were having the exact opposite. Dunks, free throws, lucky shots, it was all Boston. Time and time the Lakers would score, but the Celtics would come back. It was that kind of game. Garbaage time. Pretty much the type of late games the Sonics and the Heat play. Well, not quite.

Kobe was still on the game. And though the Celtics were blowing the game wide open, you couldn't help but feel that it wasn't over.

And well, it wasn't.

The Lakers caught the Celtics off-guard, and made it rain threes from all sides. Vujacic, Radmanovic, Fisher, and then Bryant, all pitched in, as the Lakers chipped within single digits, from a 20-point deficit. Then, with less than 40 seconds left in the game, Kobe made it a two-point game. The Boston fans were in a daze, as the Lakers were on a verge of another miraculous comeback.

Pierce wasn't moved, though. Not behind the free-throw line, not on his turf, not on the Garden, not under 16 banners.

The Lakers fouled Paul Pierce on a drive attempt. Pierce sank two pressure-packed free throws to make it a four-point game, and then blocked a Vujacic 3-pointer on the other side.

Over. Done. Sigh of relief for Doc Rivers and the Celtics. Disappointment on the Lakers side.

There's still Game 3-5 at the Staples Center, though. 3-2.

It's the Celtics in 7 for me, still.

[Can you believe it??? The Lakers beat the Spurs in 5!!! And now they're on the Finals!!!!!!!11111ONEONEONE]

Of course you can. [Spurs fans?]

The Lakers won Game 5 by eight points, from being down 17, thanks to Bryant's 39 points and Gasol's 19 rebounds. Despite the Spurs' quick start which gave them the early lead, and Tim Duncan's triple-double, they seemed to have lost energy in the second half, when the youthful Lakers outran them and slowly chipped into the game.

Thanks to this win, the Lakers are Western Conference Champions for the first time since trading Shaquille O'Neal. They will be facing the winner of the Celtics-Pistons series[which I know will be the Celtics], on a disadvantage. Whether it's the Pistons or the Celtics[but I really know it's the Celtics^^], four games will be played away from the Staples Center. However, they'll be getting a week's rest before Game 1 of the Finals[try to stop the urges, Kobe... please.].

Emdyey's say: [HAH!! I told you!] A year after calling the team a "mess", the MVP is back in the Finals, and this time, without Shaq. [His "childish" acts in the pre-season proved beneficial, didn't it? [Skeptics?]] The Lakers actually have the best chance to win the title, for me, since they are performing better on the road so far, compared to either the Celtics or the Pistons. They also have a perfect home record in the post-season, and I don't think they'll be disappointing their home fans, and in the Finals. Moreover, they have the youngest lineup among the three remaining teams.

[I want the Celtics to win the title, actually. By one point, thanks to Ray Allen's 38-foot bank shot in the last second of the third overtime in Game 7 of the Finals. That close. Why? The Lakers have five or six more years left to catch two or more titles, while the Celtics only have this season and the next one to do so. It's all about staying power, and the Celtics don't have much.]

By the way, the Celtics are up, 3-2. One win away from renewing the rivalry.

[Time to become a fan. Enough with the unbiased stuff for now.]

The Lakers are one win away from eliminating the Spurs! Aryt.

Game 5 is in Los Angeles, where the Spurs lost the first two games of the series. What would happen in Game 5? It's pretty obvious for me. Yes, the Spurs almost won Game 1 and Game 4. But they didn't. So shut up.

Apparently, the Spurs are getting old. Michael Finley, Brent Barry, Robert Horry, Bruce Bowen, and Manu Ginobili. All banged up, stiff, and old. Old, old, old. Yeah, and they're one game away from being knocked out.

Will the Spurs fight back? Of course they will look to fight back. They're the defending champs[thanks to last year's weak east]. But after this close loss at home, I don't think they still have anything left in their gas tank. It's veeery exhausting to lose a two-point game. So exhausting that they'll lose their next game, thanks to fatigue, and a very low morale.

Without any bias, I predicted it to be Lakers in 7.

But hey, Lakers in 5 is better. ^^

When my favorite band Orange and Lemons disbanded[for some f*cking reason], I became restless and started looking for an OPM alternative. Whenever I hear an ONL-like song on the radio, especially the British Rock sounding ones, I always make it a point to find it and hear it again [like Monobloc by Pupil]. And though their second album is yet unheard of, The Bloomfields were also there to provide me with more British rocking. I didn't need Clem Castro anymore [his band Camerawalls, though, has an upcoming album].

Still, there was something missing. That folk-influenced pop rock feel was nowhere to be found. That feel that made ONL hits, like Pinoy Ako, Hanggang Kailan, and Ang Katulad Mong Walang Katulad, hits.

And then Kenyo came talong. Their album Radiosurfing was just what I needed. Although it didn't necessarily have that classy ONL sound with Clem on it, it still had that easily identifibale ONL-folk-pop-rock feel. The album is mostly composed of 80's covers, but with a twist. Some songs are actually medleys of two or more songs. Their first single "Sana", originally by Florante, has a snippet of "Handog", another Florante song, near the end. The lone original, "Radio" still sounds like the rest of the album, and contains parts of 80's hits such as "Radio Gaga" and "Video Killed the Radio Star". The songs in the album will bring you back to the 80's or introduce you to it if you are not familiar with it.

Who wouldn't expect the Spurs to bounce back, for at least one game, against the Lakers?

Who could predict what would exactly happen in the Celtics-Pistons series?

No one. Really.

The Spurs were on their homecourt, and Ginobili has had enough frustration to break the ice and lead the Spurs to a Game 3 victory. I didn't get to watch the game, but I kept track of the score in my phone. It started close, and though the Spurs were leading whenever I looked at the score, I thought the Lakers had a chance in the first half. But things went out of hand in the second half as the Spurs threw runs after runs against the most probably shocked Lakers.

It's just Game 3. The Lakers are still up 2-1. The Spurs win was really meant to happen. Wanna know what's not meant to happen? The Spurs giving the Lakers a taste of how the Hornets felt. I expect the Lakers to finish the season for the defending champs. Soon. Kobe and Gasol should be on fire next game.

Detroit won a while ago, thanks to McDyess' 22-16, and Hamilton stepping up against Allen. This weird see-saw series is tied at 2-2. If the Celtics win another road game, that's pretty much it. They can alo just protect their homecourt[again]. On the other hand, Detroit has to win one in Boston to at least have a chance, and I think they can do it. Yeah. They have the momentum right now. Yeah. It's stil Detroit in 7 for me. Detroit in 7, skeptics.

I'd rather see the Celtics go up against the Lakers in the Finals, though. ^^

Orientation na bukas. Wednesday na enrollment. Pagkatapos ng huling araw ng review sa Sabado, maglilipat na kami sa dorm. Parang hindi nagbakasyon eh.

Well, isang buwan. Pero ano ba naman ang isang buwang bakasyon kapalit ng siyam na buwan ng pag-aaral? Hwooh. Sabagay. Di naman kami nag-aaral. Hehe.

Tsaka, on the bright side, balik dorm naaa! Makakapag-basketball na ako nang hindi nag-iisa[wah ala-Stewie]. Buong summer kasi, sa likod ng bahay lang ako nagbabasket, wala pa akong kalaro. Medyo mababa pa yung ring sa amin.

Tapos, makikita ko na roommates ko! Ang hula ko, roommates ko si Raymond Alibutud at si MJ Dolorico. Tapos yung isa, dapat si Jamil Fabia, pero hindi na s'ya magdodorm kaya papalitan na lang s'ya ni Wappie. Hula lang yun huh. I absolutely have no confidence in that guess.

Tapos, dahil tahimik nga yung mga hinulaan kong magiging roommates ko, mas makakapag-concentrate ako. Medyo malungkot nga lang at mangangalahati kami. Third year nga siguro talaga yung happy year. Buti nag-enjoy na ako. Hehe.

At syempre, excited na din akong pumasok. Kaklase ko kaya yung mga hinulaan kong roommate ko? Siguro. Pero hindi talaga ako sigurado. Hehe.

First week, matutulog lang ako. At maglalaro. Mag-aaral? Syempre. Hinde. Kayo rin. Wag n'yo kaming gayahin. [Ako, Neil, Fungo, Wappie, at iba pang mga bad influence. Hehe.]

Boston leads series, 2-1.

Their first road win of the postseason couldn't have happened at a better time.

After six straight road losses in two consecutive series, the Boston Celtics finally snatched one away from home, with a 94-80 win in Detroit. Thanks to a solid contribution from the Big Three, whose points totaled half of the team's points, and 12 points each from Rondo, Posey, and Perkins, the Celtics led most of the way, if not the whole game[didn't see the whole game. woke up late].

Yeah. I underestimated the Celtics mystique once again. Probably, because of Ray Allen's passive performance throughout the playoffs, the Big Three seems to be reduced to a mere tandem of Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, with Allen just an auxiliary shooter. But signs of aggressiveness from him in the past two games make me think again.

Maybe the Celtics-Lakers match-up almost everybody's been dreaming about would happen after all. The Celtics just have to protect their homecourt[again] now that they've regained their advantage. But can they keep it up against the ever-resilient Pistons?

The Celtics led by 18 at halftime, according to Yahoo! Sports, but when I woke up and turned the TV on, the Pistons were on a run. Series of plays late in the fourth, including a steal by Tayshaun Prince, followed by a three by Chauncey Billups and a dunk by Prince, brought the Pistons to within 9. I thought they were gonna make a huge comeback, as the Celtics seemed rattled, missing free throws and turning the ball over, but thanks to Rodney Stuckey's ill-advised shots, and an in-and-out miss by Billups from downtown, the win was sealed. Still, they didn't lose without a giving the Celtics a fight, did they?

The Pistons should bounce back and try to win the next one at the Garden, I expect them to really be on fire this time.

We've got a see-saw series out there. Exciting.

Lakers, Celtics, meet opposite fates.

The Lakers are up 2-0, thanks to a 101-71 win.

If they win the next game in San Antonio, it's a wrap. The Spurs should look to fight back, being the champions that they are. However, they're not against the Hornets anymore, and judging the way they played today, they must have lost a lot of energy in the last series. The series where they came back from the same 0-2 hole. They may not have enough energy to pull off the same feat anymore.

The Lakers, on the other hand, have the MVP, and the best support cast in the world. They also had all the rest they could ask for. This series is turning out to be shorter than expected.

The Celtics-Pistons series is tied at 1-1, after the Pistons ended the Celtics' home winning streak yesterday. It may not look so bad, but it's very scary for Boston, who has yet to win a road game. Because now, they have to.

The Celtics are 0-6 on the road, as they have been relying on their home crowd to win games. Two consecutive series of luck at home is all they could get. Maybe they were hoping to do the same thing until they reach the finals, but not here. Not now.

Not against the Pistons.

Their string of luck ends here, and now, they are the ones at a disadvantage. The road woes will stay, unless they win in Detroit. Game 3 is very crucial, and the Detroit fans should be on fire. I expect the Celtics to try and win this game, but fall short. They need Ray Allen to continue his newfound stroke, and to keep out of foul trouble, as Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce will still be their normal 25-point selves.

Detroit is a playoff-tested team, while no one can take away the fact that although Boston is a very hungry team, they are still inexperienced. The Pistons have seen the hole in that Celtics greatness, and will be looking to take full advantage of it. Pistons in 7.

Nagsimula ang lahat noong unang linggo ng review, hindi ko maalala kung anong araw, nang pinaglaruan ng tadhana ang aming mga kapalaran. Bago yung araw na 'yon, bumili kami ng nanay ko ng damit. Pinili ko yung puting collarless na t-shirt na v-cut, at yung puting shorts na mistulang pang-tennis, para mag-match sa puting sapatos ni kuya. Wala lang. Natripan ko lang magputi. Mabait ako eh. [Hehe. Hasty gen.] Wala ako ni isang ideya na sa susunod na araw, ay mapapatunayan sa aming apat na may hiwaga ang pagkakaibigan.

Mahuhuli na ako sa klase noon, tumakbo na nga ako paakyat eh. Pero feel ko pa din yung all-white kong outfit. Pagpasok ko ng kwarto, tumingin muna ako't kumaway sa guro, at naglakad ng papayuko papunta sa unang hanay, kung saan nakaupo si Fungo, Neil, at Wappie. Napatigil ako.

Shet. All-white din silang tatlo.

It's like, whoah, man. I sweaar. [yuuck]

Anyway. Dahil doon, nagsimula kaming magplano ng susuutin, di nga lang araw-araw. Di kasi umuuwi si Wappie kaya konti lang damit nya. Ito na yung mga nagawa naming mga kombinasyon:

Gothic/Emo - All black. Medyo mainit, pero masayaa.
Valentine's Day/Birthday - All red. Di nakasama si Neil, pero kasama yung teacher sa Filipino, so apat pa rin kaming naka-pula sa harap. Pula rin yung sleeves ng puting damit ni AJ, kaya isandaan kaming naka-pula noon[Labyu AJ.]. Hehe.
Philippine Flag - White ako, yellow si Fungo, di ko maalala kung alin sa blue at red ang suot nina Neil. Naka-yellow rin si Lopez, kaya maraming naka-yellow! [Again, labyu AJ.]
Zaido/Primary Colors sa Physics - Red, blue, green. Di naka-join si Neil, kasi nga tatlo lang yung kulay. Naka-stripes yata sya no'n.
Rainy day[walang maisip] - Nag-all blue na yata kami.

Tapos, medyo wala na kaming maisip. Medyo nakasagabal din sa pag-iisp ang pagka-limitado ng damit namin. Tulungan mo naman kaming mag-isip o..

Two teams vying for the East. Two for the West.

Gone are the flashy one-man teams, as well as the youthful inexperienced ones.

It's all about toughness now. Experience. Killer instinct. And the 20 peso-bet I won.

The Lakers won against the San Antonio Spurs a while ago in a low-scoring but exciting game. The Spurs, coming from a close victory in New Orleans last Tuesday, blew a 20-point lead in the second half, thanks to their poor play, and Bryant's heroics. Bryant, who performed when his team needed him most, and in front of his home crowd, scored 25 of his 27 in the second half, including a go-ahead jumper that clinched the come-from-behind win. Kobe also had 9 assists, 5 in the first half, when, according to Gregg Popovich, Kobe did a "trust-his-teammates thing" and came out unsuccessful.

Emdyey's say: This is a classic match-up between two teams that won seven of the last nine championships. The Spurs are not strangers to this territory, as opposed to the Lakers who only have three players with Western Conference Finals experience, namely: Bryant, Fisher, and Walton. Gasol and Odom haven't reached this plateau playing for their former teams.

Experience will be a big factor, but the revitalized Lakers and an inspired Kobe Bryant should be too much for the San Antonio Spurs, who almost fell for the young New Orleans Hornets. I expect this to be a close match-up, though, as both teams, especially the Lakers, shall be looking to protect their homecourt. The Spurs, however, need to steal one in Los Angeles. The teams may not be evenly matched-up against each other, but homecourt advantage is on the Lakers' side. Lakers in 7.

The Celtics go up 8-0 in the Boston Garden, as they defeated the Detroit Pistons in the first game of the East Finals. As expected, it was a low-scoring, defensive oriented game. Both teams are known for their tough, and sometimes dirty, defense. Kevin Garnett lead the Celtics with 26, Paul Pierce with 22, and sophomore point guard Rajon Rondo outplayed 2004 Finals MVP Chauncey Billups, pouring 7 of his 11 in the fourth quarter. The Celtics, coming off a Game 7 victory, got just a day's rest. On the other hand, the Pistons had a week to prepare. Go figure.
