Here is the first one, the inside of the main dome of the Sheikh Lotf Allah Mosque, one of the architectural masterpieces of Safavid Iranian architecture, standing on the eastern side of Naghsh-i Jahan Square, in Isfahan.

I was recently visiting a friend in Madagascar, but I made the mistake of only bringing a fixed 50mm lens I’m not used to use, so instead of landscapes and city scenes I only managed to take a few portrait of my travel mates…

Sorry for not having posted anything for weeks, to make up for it here is a series of 3 photos taken in Isfahan a few months ago now (time flies…). After some quiet time in Tehran I recently went back to Yazd and Isfahan, and went for the first time to Shiraz and Persepolis, so more pictures should be coming soon.

During the Achura celebration we went to the city’s cemetery where martyrs of the war against Iraq are buried, and witnessed many gathering to pay respect to their lost family or friends, burning candles or bringing flowers.

These guys actually really were under the bridge (previous picture was more like over the bridge…)

And sorry for this long time without post, but we’re now back to normal posting frequency!

Part of Isfahan’s unique atmosphere comes from the Zayandeh River, traversing the city from west to east. The bridges over the river include some of the nicest architecture in Isfahan. The oldest bridge is the “Pol-e Shahrestan,” which was probably built in the 12th century (see wikipedia for more…).
