AREMA names Frank Miller vice chair of high-speed rail systems committee

Francis J. Miller III, PE, associate vice president and director of rail for New York metro, HNTB Corporation has been named officer and vice chair of the high-speed rail systems technical committee by the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association.

Miller, based in the firm’s Philadelphia office, is a senior track engineer with more than 25 years of experience in the planning, design, construction, inspection and project management of major railway transportation, track and facility engineering projects.

Pedestrian bridge project receives CMAA award

The Mary Avenue Pedestrian Bridge in Cupertino, Calif., received a Project Achievement Award from the Construction Management Association of America. HNTB designed the cabled-stayed bridge, which spans 500 feet across 10 lanes of Interstate 280 and is the first of its kind in California.

The award was presented at the CMAA’s annual conference, which was held Oct. 25-27, 2009 in Orlando, Fla. CMAA will feature the project on its Web site and in its official publication, CM Advisor.

Illinois bridge receives engineering award

The Des Plaines River Valley Bridge received the Outstanding Achievement Award from the Illinois Engineering Council on Oct. 24 at the IEC’s annual awards banquet. HNTB designed the 1.3-mile bridge which opened in November 2007. The Illinois bridge was one of five outstanding engineering projects honored at the 2009 banquet.

Colin Makin, HNTB project manager, accepted the award for the Des Plaines River Valley Bridge and provided a short presentation about the project.

Rosignoli selected to set up and chair IABSE’s new working group

The International Association of Bridge and Structural Engineers’ technical committee selected HNTB’s Marco Rosignoli, Southeast Division bridge and tunnel professional services lead, to set up and chair the new working group WG-6 Bridge Construction Equipment for a four-year period.

Khoury named to ACEC New York board of directors

Eli Khoury, P.E., HNTB vice president and New York office leader, was selected by the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York to serve on the board of directors for the 2009-2010 term. ACEC New York announced the new officers and board of directors during the association’s spring conference at the Union League Club in Manhattan. Khoury will represent one of the eight regions that comprise ACEC New York.

Airport terminal project receives design award

International Terminal D at the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport was one of 12 entries selected by the Texas Society of Architects for the 2009 TSA Design Awards. HNTB Architecture, along with HKS and Corgan Associates, designed the 2,000,000 square foot terminal which opened in July 2005. The entry was selected in recognition of a space that reflects cultural boldness and supports major passenger flows.

HNTB Awarded Major Contract with Los Angeles Airports

DiFrancia selected for WTS Leadership Program
