Master Bedroom and Closet Project

Please excuse the picture quality. For the sake of time I just took these with Photo Booth on my Mac!

Ok, so here is our Master Bedroom. Our babies are always in here! We snuggle in bed in the morning and they usually play in here while I get dressed, make my bed, fold laundry, etc. I have always thought that I would spent time decorating our room when our kids were older (since they goober every where!), but since we are in there so much I've been working on a few things! It's part of my REALLY enjoying this time I get to stay home with my kids and just be a wife, mommy, and home decorator!

Our Room...it's brown and blue with pops of gold. I love our room! The only improvements I have planned are to paint the walls light blue, hang newer pictures of us, and add some mustard/gold accents.

The latest addition since we moved here two years ago...our storage bench...aka the way our sweet boy gets on our bed :).

I love our bedroom furniture. A friend of the family sold is their bedroom set right before we got married for like $200. Cant beat that! It really nice solid wood, and someday I would like to update it either by paint or hardware...or both!

Window and play pen.

I made this for our wedding. It has my parents and our wedding invites. I chose one that looked almost identical to my moms without knowing it!

The admiral (our faithful teeny tiny tv)...he came with the hubs and keeps on working! Although I think the admiral will be moving to the playroom after Black Friday!

My Closet Project! It's NOT done but, I'm so excited I had to share a sneak peek...

I've painted, added hooks, hung twine, bought tubs and canvas bins...now I just need to pizazz it up a bit. It's coming out beautifully though!

Our Kitchen

Our Kitchen (these pics are from when we built our house and from various holidays...so don't please don't mind the fall, Easter, Valentines, and St. Patty's decor...hahaha!)

I love my kitchen! It is smack dab in the middle of our home, and you can see from the family room to the living room which I love! It's nice for entertaining.

Our skylight is right above the island and provides more than enough natural light for the whole area which is awesome!

Off to the side is one of my favorite spots in our home. Hubby got this buffet for me for our last anniversary. I bought this mirror when we were first married for like $30 and I still LOVE it!

We added this verse above...so pretty!

This is the only part of my house I have decorated for holidays this year with two little ones...but I really have enjoyed it!

Our Family Room

So I FINALLY am getting around to decorating again. It's been awhile since I've been able to...you know with all the school, pregnancies, babies and what not! I have begun in our Family Room...which I believe is the HEART of our home. Not the kitchen...unfortunately for the hubs!

I recently purchased these super chic pillows at Target. How much is everyone loving Target these days? All the new "Shops" WOW! Target has gone up like a million notches in my book.

So the pillows are what I have finally decided on as far as color. I had red before and I just wasn't feelin' it anymore. Since I am a huge fan of warm colors I chose these. To me these colors = lots of snuggles on the couch with my honey and babies.

They match my curtains perfect. I love these curtains! See that canvas on the wall? While I LOVE it..it's kind of lonely :(. Plan...

Build shelves...these are super easy! My neighbor did them in her house which is almost identical to mine. Aren't they cute?

The fireplace...oh the fireplace! It's kinda sad right now. Plans = take down frame, paint the fireplace chocolate brown, make the wall behind it an "accent" wall (color unknown), and frame a pic of the kiddos on it!

My sweet boy and our fish tank...yup it's right in the family room!

I took my baby brother's senior/prom/graduation pictures recently. I LOVE how they came out! I can't believe he's graduating and going to college soon! Crazy! Seems like just yesterday I placed him on my then teeny tiny hip and shared him with my 6th grade classmates (I shared ALL my siblings in K,3rd,6th, and 12th grade...sweet right?), and now he's all grown up and quite the young man I must say!

Baby Holden

Meet my neighbors! My sweet neighbors Tara and Ryan just welcomed their first son, Holden, in January. When Tara found out I was a "photographer" she asked me to take some pictures of their family. They had already had his newborn ones done, but they were just of the baby and she wanted to get some with them in them while he was still fresh.

I was SOOOO nervous! I always feel so much pressure to capture the perfect pictures. It's still new to me to boss people around (well at least in this type of setting!), but they were so nice and easy to work with. I really love how they turned out!

I am so happy today because I ordered some new pillow covers for the pillows on my couch! I have been using the ones that came with the couch for about a year and half now. Needless to say they aren't the most attractive pillows in the world. I am really liking this new chevron fabric trend, and so I ordered some new pillows in chevron! The best part is that this particular Etsy seller gives you one free when you order three AND free shipping! Doesn't take much to turn around a LOOOOONG day of changing diapers, no naps, timeouts, and cleaning lots of messes for me!

Here is what I ordered...three of these in RUST...I LOVE orange! Orange is slowly making its way into every room in our house.

This one was my freebie.

Our family room originally had red accents (but only like 2 things). The other colors are dark teal and tan so I thought these would go great and hopefully give the room a more chic look. Just what the hubs would want right?

Total Cost for 4 Pillow Covers including tax/shipping was around $42! You couldn't even get that kind of a deal at Ross or TJ Max! Here is where I ordered them in case you want to take a look.

I planned this party for my son's 2nd birthday when I was pregnant because I knew I would have a 6 week old when his birthday came around. I didn't want him to get the short end of the stink when his sister was born! So, for months I kept buying, planning, crafting, and hiding it all in my console table!

Smore Pop inspiration from Here. These were a hit and also really easy all you need is a bag of marsmallows, chocolate chips, graham crackers, and white Whilton sticks (you get these in the cake decorating section at any craft store or Walmart).

Subway Art

Remember my Family of Four post? Well, I decided to use this same frame for Holiday Subway art as well. It's in a highly visible area so its perfect! I will just keep them all in the same frame and switch them to the front so I don't even have to dig around to find each print! Here is what I picked out for Fall, and it's FREE! I suppose you could pay extra to have it printed professionally, but a sheet of card stock and my home printer did the trick for me. This particular print will last you from September-December!

My First Painting

While I was pregnant with my daughter Allie I felt very creative! I think she will be creative/artistic so it was flowing between us. Anyways, I got this big idea to paint something special for her nursery.

I copied the fabric from her bedding and put her beautiful name in the middle.

I bought a broken frame for 90% off at Hobby Lobby and repaired and painted it to match.

I would definitely recommend doing this. The frame is gorgeous, and all it needed was a little putty, sanding, and a few coats of apple green paint!

For my first painting I think it came out pretty good!

Baby Landon

A few months back we got some very scary news about the son of one of my hubby's friends/co-worker. He and his wife welcomed their first son into the world, only to have him whisked away by ambulance and then care flighted to another hospital. Baby Landon had swallowed a large amount of meconium during labor and was not given a promising prognosis....BUT....our God is bigger and completely healed this precious baby boy! It gives me chills!

A few weeks before I delivered our sweet girl, I had the honor of meeting him and taking his newborn pictures. He was the MOST expressive newborn (only 5 weeks) I have ever met! He was so much fun to take pictures of and is such a darling little guy! Meet Baby Landon, completely healed and healthy! Thank you Lord for this miracle baby!

DIY Wall Art

Have you seen all of the new darling word art birth announcements? Well, I was looking at some a few months back while I was planning the nurseries and came upon some really cute ones! The more I saw the more I wondered hard would it be to create one myself? Answer = NOT HARD AT ALL!!!

Dress Up Shower

This shower was given to me this Summer by two of my sweetest friends! The theme was Dressing Up Allie, and I wanted to share it even though I wasn't the one who threw it. It's just too cute of a theme not to share with the world! This shower was for my second baby. Since I was having a girl this time around, and had already had the "Big Kahuna" showers with our son where we got all the baby gear, my friends and I decided that a small shower where I would receive girl clothes would be perfect (and it was!).

Here is what the invite said:

But Allie needs gifts that will fill a clothesline

Dresses, onesies, and even hairbows

Let's dress her up from her head to her toes

The decorations were dress up clothes that were hung and laid out every where. Since the shower was in the evening they served fruit, lemonade, and desserts. You can see more details in the pictures below!

Nursery Chair Redo

When the hubs and I were first married we acquired this beautiful antique chair from his childhood neighbors. I loved the detailed wood carving on the back, but since the fabric was such a "lovely" shade of pink we have always covered it with a quilt! Well I decided when we put it in Allie's room that it was time to reupholster it! Hubs about fainted when he saw what I had done. He thought I had devalued the chair, but I quickly reassured him that the pink fabric was indeed not the antiquated part of the chair (although it did seem that way from its condition!).

I used a natural cream color fabric with a cream ruffle. I did the seats, and hubs did the ruffle because I got to huge to move! My new decor rule is that if it doesn't work in at least two rooms don't buy, make or change it! I think I read that in Better Homes and Gardens? I can use this chair in just about any room in our home if I just change the pillows. Best part it only cost approximately $25 for the chair redo!! That includes the fabric from Walmart, and ruffle and tacks from JoAnns.

Visitor Treats

Here is the recipe I used to make both Drew and Allie's hospital/home visitor treats. I got it from Kelly's Korner and you can click HERE to see it on her blog too. I will warn you that while the recipe is very easy to follow these cookies are a bit tedious...but so worth it!

Drew's Cookies

I made some with his initials and some with his name.

Allie Pearl's Cookies

I made these labels for the back because the pearls were enough on the front!

Sugar Cookies:

3 1/2 cups (460 grams) all purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon (4 grams) baking powder

1 cup (227 grams) unsalted butter, room temperature

1 1/2 cups (300 grams) granulated white sugar

2 large eggs

2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

Royal Icing Using Egg Whites:

2 large egg whites

2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice

3 cups (330 grams) confectioners (powdered or icing) sugar, sifted

For Sugar Cookies: In a separate bowl whisk together the flour, salt, and baking powder. Set aside.

In the bowl of your electric mixer (or with a hand mixer), beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 3 to 4 minutes). Add the eggs and vanilla extract and beat until combined. Add the flour mixture and beat until you have a smooth dough.

Divide the dough in half and wrap each half in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for about one hour or until firm enough to roll.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (177 degrees C) and place rack in center of oven. Line two baking sheetswith parchment paper.

Remove one half of the chilled dough from the refrigerator and, on a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to a thickness of 1/4 inch (1 cm). (Keep turning the dough as you roll, making sure the dough does not stick to the counter.) Cut out desired shapes using a lightly floured cookie cutter and transfer cookies to the prepared baking sheet. Place the baking sheets with the unbaked cookies in the refrigerator for 10 to 15 minutes to chill the dough which prevents the cookies from spreading and losing their shape while baking.

Note: If you are not going to frost the baked cookies, you may want to sprinkle the unbaked cookies with crystal or sparkling sugar.

Bake cookies for about 10 minutes (depending on size) or until they are brown around the edges. Remove from oven and let cookies cool on baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to finish cooling. Frost with royal icing, if desired. Be sure to let the royal icing dry completely before storing. (This may take several hours.)

Frosted cookies will keep several days in an airtight container. Store between layers of parchment paper or wax paper.

Makes about 36 - 4 inch (10 cm) cookies.

For Royal Icing with Egg Whites: In the bowl of your electric mixer (or with a hand mixer), beat the egg whites with the lemon juice. Add the sifted powdered sugar and beat on low speed until combined and smooth. The icing needs to be used immediately or transferred to an airtight container as royal icing hardens when exposed to air. Cover with plastic wrap when not in use.

I used the color gels from Wilton that you can get from Wal-Mart or Hobby Lobby to color the icing. Just a small little dab will color it plenty.

Baby Zachary

These pictures just take my breathe away! This is my sweet friend Susan's brand new baby boy Zachary! I had the pleasure of taking his newborn photos at just 8 days old. I even took the sweetest pictures of new Big Sis Maddie holding little brother! I can't tell you what an honor it is to be asked to take pictures of these sweet newborns fresh out of the oven! I could seriously do this the rest of my life and be a happy woman! Babies + photography = one happy Mama!

Thank you to all my friends who have allowed me to capture these precious memories and practice my photography skills! I think I may have found my future side business! We will see when our baby girl arrives how ambitious I am, but I am considering offering a Fall photo shoot in October. I will keep you posted!

Baby Hadley

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of taking newborn pictures of my sweet friend Cassie's daughter Hadley and Big Brother Hendrix! We had a little too much fun dressing her up!

Here are some of my favorites. She has such beautiful babies!

We tried some outside another day...she was NOT having it! Ha! I am really learning a lot about newborn shoots and hopefully will get better and better. It will be nice when my big ole' belly isn't in my way...along with the sweat dripping from who knows where! Last trimester + Outdoor photo shoots + Texas Heat = One sweaty Mama!

I am going to take a few more before I pop of Mama and Baby Girl! I can't wait. Cassie is so patient and easy going...and we get to talk and hang out as an added bonus.

p.s. I have brought Drew with me to every single shoot so far! He does SUPER awesome, and I am so blessed to have friends who adore him too and don't mind if I bring him. He has gotten a TON of exposure to newborns before his baby comes in just a few weeks.

Thank you Lord we are almost there! Can you tell I'm ready?

House of Four

I just printed our House of 4 pdf, framed in a really cute black frame, and hung it in our kitchen! It looks really cute and it only cost me $5 for the frame (half off at Michaels)! I don't know about you but I am always trying to find ways to decorate our house that won't break the bank!

Owl Baby Shower

About a month ago I co-hosted a baby shower in our home for one of my sweet friends! The theme was owls (which I borrowed from my cousin and her friends!). I chose owls because the baby's gender was a surprise and her boy and girl names both began with the letter H....so everything was about Whooo Baby H would be! Here are some of the details below!

The cupcake table. We picked VERY bright happy colors! I loved them so much I wanted to redecorate my house in them. These SUPER darling cupcakes were made my the guest of honor's SIL.

They were so cute and yummy!

I went a little crazy with these poms. They are just so pretty and easy to make! I had a lot of people ask me about them at the shower so I will probably do a post on how to make them.

I made these cute little owl signs for everything...it's the little things that make a big difference...don't you think?

The favor tags say..."Thanks for coming it was a Hoot!"

The food table. The shower was at 2pm (after we all got our toddlers to sleep) so we served fresh fruit, veggies and dip, cheese and crackers, and Baby H cookies!

One of the co-hosts brought these gorgeous flowers (and the darling cookies)! We put them throughout the house. There were so bright and cheery and I LOVED the gerber daises!

Invites and Announcements

In recent years I have discovered that not only do I love to make invitations and announcements, but that I am kind of good at it too! It is very time consuming (probably because I create everything myself and do not own any fancy software) and challenging, but I enjoy it so much. Here are some recent ones I have done. I have two that I am working on right now that are so awesome but the events haven't happened yet and I wouldn't want to spoil the surprise of getting them in the mail! So far I have only designed them for my family and close friends but if you would like me to design something for you let me know!

This first one was for a shower I recently hosted. This darling little owl was placed on top of the actual invite. You had to slide it down to see the invitation. I "borrowed" the owl theme from my cousin and her friends who also through a unknown baby gender shower! I will post pictures of that soon.

I made this for my son's first birthday. I got a lot of compliments on it! It took me forever!

I showed this one yesterday, but thought I would put it up again in this post. Another shower invite for the theme "nesting."

Nesting Shower

Here are the pictures from a baby shower that my good friend Michele and I threw for our good friends Henry and Tyra (the cuties from the newborn shoot I posted yesterday). The theme was NESTING! It was right before Easter so it was super easy and cost effective to go with this theme. I chose to go earthy and natural, yet colorful. Tyra's favorite colors are green and orange so I tried to incorporate those into the theme.

Here is the invite I designed. Everything fell into place after the invite...it's where I always start when planning a party. This part below was placed in from of recycled brown paper and I used green envelopes...the color green...I wasn't THAT eco-friendly!

We were originally going to have it at my house, but since the guest list was mostly from our university we decided it would be easier to have it there! Challenge = changing a classroom into a cute room for a baby shower! The time was right after classes and before dinner so we just served light refreshments, cake, and punch. I will try and and remember how much and where I got things from in case you ever need ideas!

Table cloths: Cheap green plastic from Walmart $1, and fabric on clearance at Walmart $10. I used the fabric all over. Orange bowl Target dollar section, Green egg bowl Walmart $1, Green plates and utensils Walmart $1-2 each, and the other Green bowl Michele brought.

Michele had the cake made at Target for around $25. They scanned a different version I made of the invite. I thought it was really cute!

Another view of the center table. We put green and orange Easter eggs ($2 from Walmart) in the punch. It was citrus punch by the way.

I made little nests out of brown grass and put robins eggs in the middle (Brown grass, $1/bag in the floral section at Walmart). This is one of my son's baskets from his nursery...it matched the theme!

Nest decoration. I used a twig wreath ($6 Walmart, Better Homes and Gardens brand in the floral section, moss also from Walmart floral section, and the huge green eggs where half off ($0.75) at Hobby Lobby).

Nesting tree. I cut out eggs using the same recycled paper (got it at Hobby Lobby) and used some raffia that I already have to hang the eggs from branches I cut down in my back yard.

I got these cute flower pots in the dollar section at Target and filled them with moss and all kinds of different egg candy! We placed them all on the tables so our guests could munch on them during the shower.

Welcome to my newest blog! I really wanted to start sharing all of my "hobbies" and ideas with people, but wanted to keep my sweet family blog, well just a sweet family blog! So here it goes! I am by no means an expert photographer, party planner, or crafter/home decorator BUT I couldn't enjoy doing these things more.

I wrote my first post in December, and then when I found out I was pregnant Baby #2 a few weeks later things kind of slowed WAY down for me! During my second trimester the projects, parties, and photography sessions starting picking back up so I ACTUALLY have stuff to share! I am going to start with a newborn photography session I did a few weeks back for one of my dearest friends, and her beautiful baby boy!

It wasn't hard to capture these two beauties! Is he not so precious! I was so nervous to take someone else's newborn pictures! I had been practicing on my son for a year and half, but still. Luckily, my friend is super laid back and so it was actually really fun. I did however underestimate how long it would take. When I took my sons pictures I would dress him, feed him, change him and then start our session. It wouldn't take me more than 15-20 minutes, but when you go to someone else's house you become a part of all of those processes! I brought my son with me and he did awesome. This pregnant mommy needed a nap after!

Another one of my friends just has a sweet baby girl last week, so I will get to practice on a girl! I am so excited! I just adore newborns!

First “Official” Photo Shoot

While I have had many photo shoots with my family over the last few years, this was my first official shoot with someone outside my family! I have really been wanting to start a photography business/hobby for a while now, and so here it goes! Now that I am done with school I have a little bit more time, and I have asked my friends to please let me practice on their children and families. This is my friend Cassie and her family. She asked me to take Christmas card pictures for her this year. It was too cold that day to shoot outside so I took some pictures in front of their Christmas tree. It was so much fun! Everything I suggested they tried, which made is super easy! As you can see they are a beautiful family.
