Hey, a few of my friends in the area have seen a lot of interest in having an ice-hockey team this year. I realize it's pretty late to start a team, but I was just wondering what would be the requirements/thoughts that some people a little more in the know (You all) might have to offer.

Essentially, the thought is that we would start practice in December and join 2 to 4 tournaments in January-April.

What are, if anything, requirements for such an idea? And would most/all tournaments already be filled (specifically in the NY/NJ surrounding area)?

This is pretty open-ended, but I figured Id ask....it cant hurt, cant it?

Thnks guys!

On my highschool team there is a female player due to her backround in figure skating she is probably the best skater I have on my team. I have been working with her all summer and into the season on body checking. She is not a frail girl by any means, however now that she is starting to play more agressive she is spending more time getting knocked down than anything else. We have practiced the mechanics of this time and time again I've taken several different approaches and seem to be at a loss. I open to anything at this point.

Off-ice Pre-game Dynamic Warm up Help

I have been asked to design about a 12 - 15 minute pre-game warm up for my son's Bantam hockey team. I am not a trainer or anything like that just a parent with a lot of medical background who got asked to help out with safety and injury assessments and the sort. Truthfully I am kinda happy yet humbled that I was asked.

Ok I came up with a few drills for the kids to do and need feedback and ideas to fill this out.

Use an area that allows some movement (hallways or if dressingroom is large enough), avoid spectaor areas. Need about about 30 - 45 feet.
- high knees (x 2)
- heel kicks (x 2)
- kareoke (x 2)
- slow walking lunges (x 2)
- trunk rotations, add in arms and a then a jump twist opposite arm movement
- Hamstring stretch - toe touches
- Trunk & shoulders - pull arm across body
- grasp elbow above head and pull to the side
- Thigh & Hip stretch - exagerated lunge and push hips forward.
- one leg placed over the other then twist upper body opposite way

Thats what I got, need some input!

Thanks

I am helping coach a Midget competitive team and we have lost our first four games while only scoring three goals. Our problem is not puck posession or shots we have plenty of both, it is the quality chances that are not coming regularily. we have quite a bit of grit on our team and not a lot of pure scoring ability. I was wondering if any of you could offer an offensive strategy that would let us use what we do have as opposed to trying to use players in a strategy their play types are not compatible with. Thanks

I liked the way you move the sticks to get fresh ice. EXCELLANT!
