For our ninth installment of ‘Meet’ we would like you to welcome spanish deep house producer Georgeous. A busy man, nonetheless he manages to be on the top of producing with more than just one succesful project going on. He’s a diversive producer and a strong force on the spanish clubscene. We’re proud to have you on board Georgeous!

Who’s there?

I’m Jorge Primo aka Georgeous, a 25 years old DJ & Producer based in Madrid, Spain. I’m a nightlife lover, co-founder of the Depaart imprint and promoter of several nights in the city. I’m continuously trying to improve my deep house sound and production skills, i run radio shows on Sceen.fm and ViciousRadio.fm, that means i’m keeping myself rather busy! I’ve been producing music for the past two or three years now and am mostly known in Spain for my work as production Kill The Hipsters, focused on nu-disco, electro and moombahton stuff, Georgeous is my solo project focused on deep house which I’m continually trying to evolve with an teach myself new aspects.

What are your favourite tracks for the dance-floor at the moment?

Well, there are lots of great vibes for the dance-floor right now, for the sake of example I’d say… “So Good” by Round Table Knights (Off Recordings) or “Do it again” by Filthy Rich (Hot Waves)

Personal favourite right now?

Beautiful World by Amirali, this guy is amazing!

Personal favourite(s) of all time?

From the last decade i loved…

Dj Rolando – Jaguar

Age of Love – The Age of Love

LNR – Work It To The Bone

Fingers Inc. – Can You Feel It

Classics forever

Three artists you’re watching at the moment?

Mainly watching how the guys involved with the label (Depaart) are doing right now. They are Guri and Campaner from Mallorca (Balearic Islands). They’ve got some really nice stuff forthcoming on Depaart and I’d say these are “the deep guys” of the moment!

What characterizes your production process?

My production process usually starts with some random ideas coming from different situations…I mean, it’s not always the same but when working at the studio, I usually first work on the drum patterns until I get some kinda strong loop, then several options can come up. From having influences of other artists, taking ideas and working on them, to go walking through the street and create melodies, basses, drum fills or vocals in my mind that I really like and then running to the studio just in case I forget those ideas Always trying to get a more professional sound via analog synths, live recording and properly mixing rather than just in my room, once I have a clear idea it’s time to show them to friends in order to get the first wave of feedback. I cannot ensure a fixed time in the studio every day, so as soon as I get new ideas I try to implement them in the studio and keep working on them for a bit more, if the track has no vocals on it, the tracks is arranged and mixed

Favorite kind of cheese?

Guys, don’t want to be mean but you know the best cheese in the world is from Spain? He he, my little brother and me are eating tones of cheese every week, it’s delicious! My favourite ones are Cabrales, Idiazábal and Roquefort, the harder the better Btw, check this website out for some varieties, then we can start an import-export company soon! www.abc.es/20110611/estilo-gastronomia/abci-diez-mejores-quesos-201106102339.html

The first is from polish producer Sebastian Markiewicz, and is quite the slow starter. Lovely long intro, slowly developing into a deep and steady but surprisingly light beat. It’s been working quite well for me as a set opener.

Secondly we’ve got the dirty techno tune from UK duo Stark. Raw techno stabs, gloomy sub-bass and infectious percussion. You can’t go wrong with that.

Enjoy!

Stefan Jørgensen ran a lot of projects off the board in the Danish capitol: I remember, back in the days when I was photografing, Kernefamilien, Søndagsskolen and a night at Hotel Fox. He’s still indulging and supporting Copenhagen nightlife with his fairly new project called Nankoo. And he keeps on moving: On the 30th of May he’s to be found at Berghain among Rosa Lux and Djuma Soundsystem… And most definitely playing something like: Swedish House Mafia – Don’t You Worry Child (Nankoo Remix feat.
Otherwise it’s really low on information about this Toronto guy that hasn’t got more likes on facebook than this very blog. And who gives a f—? This quality erotic disco tells all the words.

It’s going down on 19th April.

So this post is all about promotion, I guess. And about spreading some love. The three step set will start off with some cheesy and groove disco tunes. Here’s some previews of the stuff you can expect before midnight.

His name is Arnaud Rebotini, he’s based in Paris and runs the Blackstrobe Records. Being part of the late 90s wave of bringing back house music into the clubs this guy has rutine. Personally, I think you easily can hear the personal touch and he’s flair for the genre in the productions.

Here’s three cuts that I hope will make your head nod.

Generating attention to talented and creative musical newcomers might be just about the most important characteristic and strength of blogging. Therefore we are extra proud to bring our seventh Meet-interview, in which you will get to know the young producer David Marston. With a mere 53 likes on facebook he is nearly as unnoticed as they come, when you also consider his comprehensive and impressive catalogue of sounds. In the bottom of this post we have embedded our favourite productions of his. Do yourself a great favor and pay attention to this guy!

1. Who’s there? Hiya, I’m David Marston. I am a 23-year-old musician, producer, and DJ currently living in Washington DC. I am originally from Kingston, Jamaica, but I moved to Philadelphia four years ago when I enrolled in university. I started seriously producing after meeting my good friend and fellow-producer, Anant Ahuja aka Ase, in my first year at university. He had been producing music for a while and when he introduced me to some of the tracks that he had made, I was immediately compelled to start producing myself. So, I purchased ableton and started working on my first tracks. DJing followed quite naturally from there.

2. What’s your best tracks for the dancefloor at the moment?

Let’s see – In my opinion, the best dance floor tracks out at the moment would have to be:

1) Pále – Orchidea (Free DL @ XLR8R)

2) John Monkman feat Liz Cass – Follow Me

3)Rampue – Zwitscherzwitscher

4) The White Lamp – It’s You (Ron Basejam Remix)

5) Acid Pauli – A Clone Is a Clone

3. Personal favourite right now?

I recently heard Four Tet’s remix of “smalltalk” by Ultraísta, and I found it to be highly captivating!

I am also digging “Hold Me Upsetter” by The Orb featuring Lee Scratch Perry. That is a big tune! Lee “Scratch” Perry is a Jamaican reggae legend and it was really cool to see him featured on a house track.

4. Personal favourite(s) of all time?

Anyone who knows me well will know that this is an easy question for me to answer – “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen is probably my favorite song of all time. Undoubtedly, it is a masterpiece. I would say that my first choice is followed closely by “Is This Love” by Bob Marley. Another timeless track for me is “Ex factor” by Lauryn Hill.

5. Three artists you’re watching atm?

My label mates Toyboy and Robin are definitely an exciting duo to look out for. Also, Maribou State have been releasing some truly remarkable material recently. Lastly, I have been following Berlin-based artist Jin Choi for quite some time – his productions are quality!

6. What characterizes your production process?

What a difficult question to answer! It is hard to say exactly what characterizes my approach to production. In fact, I had to ask a friend, Ase, who I produce with on a regular basis, to help me out on this question. He has some distance from my work, so I thought he could provide some perspective and insight that I am probably oblivious to. He gave me some useful feedback. Anyways, I think my production process is quite varied. Sometimes I will think of musical ideas and then I will open ableton and attempt to bring them to life in a very deliberate manner. At other times, I work intuitively and I try to let ideas and concepts manifest and flow naturally, without thinking too much about them. Temporally speaking, I have completed some tracks within the space of a few hours, whereas other songs have taken me over a year to finish! It is strange, thinking about my Nina Simone remix, when I started that track, I had just moved to London for six months. One night, I was sitting in my room feeling slightly depressed and, as I often do when feeling a bit out of sorts, I started working on music. I, however, was not satisfied with what I had come up with. I quickly became extremely frustrated and I was about to throw the ableton file in the trash. Then suddenly, and seemingly out of nowhere, the vocals of “Feeling Good” by Nina Simone drifted through my mind, and I thought to myself “these vocals would sound beautiful accompanied by the instrumentation that I’ve just created.” I found the isolated vocals and threw them into my ableton session, and the Nina Simone remix was born. Some things manifest in a seemingly magical and inexplicable way. I definitely enjoy working with vocals and I try to include a fair amount of live instrumentation and organic sounds in my work. In general, I like to have some sort of foundation or base to work with. That is why I like producing in collaboration with other people. Friends will often send me unrefined, rough ideas for tracks, and I will build on them and try to refine them. I like working in that manner. I definitely have an aversion to working from scratch – blank slates scare me! Another thing that I would say, or rather, that I would like to think about my production style, is that it is meticulous, thoughtful, and intricate. I value and greatly appreciate subtlety in all forms of art, and I try to ensure that my tracks show subtlety and interesting contrasts. I also think that the most meaningful and moving songs are those that have an emotional narrative – it is important for songs to tell of some sort of story or journey. Thus, I try to incorporate storytelling in my tracks as much as possible

7. Favorite kind of cheese?

Stilton usually catches my fancy! It is the “King of Blues.”

Thanks a lot to David Marston for participating!

Quite an all-star lineup and one may think that it just HAS to be good – which it damn well is.. The generous length of the allows for both two times a groovy melodic intro, non-rhythmic & ambient transitions as well as the pumping bass-laden groove that dominates the track. Pure sex.
