I Don't know the author of this but he/she practically spoke my mind.

Two main pandemics at the moment we are fighting......

1. Coronavirus
2. Hunger virus.

Two main groups of people at the moment fighting the the pandemics......

1. The Rich and
2. The poor.

The global irony and the African outlook......

The rich is afraid of the virus.

The poor is afraid of hunger.

The rich wants the poor to stay home to avoid the spread, but hunger won't allow the poor to stay home.

The poor fears that if they stay home, the hunger virus will kill them.

The rich fears that if they also come out of their homes the coronavirus will kill them.......

What a delicate situation we have .........

Opinion:
In other to restore the world or Nigeria to it's normal social equilibrium.

The rich should assist the poor with food, so that they can stay at home.

When the rich succeeds in keeping the poor at home by providing enough food.

The spread of the coronavirus which the rich fears most will be chased out!

This is common sense.....Yet because some people have the microphones, all you hear is ...... “stay at home”.......... “stay at home” .

How can they stay at home when the hunger virus is at home.

Don't blame the House of Reps members for their statement regarding MMM.
What will you do when you realize that the young graduates slaves that keep vigil in your house just to drop their CV with you or get complimentary card all of a sudden stops coming to you.
How will you feel when the area boys that makes you popular and sings your praises just for sighting your car just for a token of 5k you will drop for 20 of them all of a sudden stops doing so.
How will you feel when the boys that do your dirty jobs all off a sudden gets busy attending to their PH and GH rather than standing beside you all the time with the hope that "oga go put me for line one day".
How will you feel when you realize people in your locality no more line up to tell you stories of how they have gone from one financial difficulty to the other just to boast to their peers that "I was with Hon the other day" and with the hope of getting an advice from the Hon and perhaps 5k if you're one of the favoured ones.
How will you feel when you realize that you may not be able to buy your way in the next election because those you share N500 each in rallies are all Millionaires?
How will you feel knowing that the poor guy you planned to take their family land by next year has suddenly started building an edifice there.
If you are one of the rep members, you will work hard to ensure you remain very important and significant to these poor and wretched people who don’t know what it takes to be an “Honourable Member of the House of Representative”.
They will bark and roar like a wounded lion because their ego has been dented by this poverty liberator.
MMM will like an elephant stand unshakable as we keep PHing and GHing forever.

Moreover, let us not throw caution to the wind by forgetting that the GOVERNMENT is BIGGER than every Community or Organisation in any nation. As Marvodians we have stood our grounds to protect our Community by responding to the various negative reports published about our Community and that's so very much appreciated and would not be taken for granted. MMM : Response To Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC).

I got to the office today and was accosted by an anti-MMM colleague of mine who is usually quick to spread any negative rumor about MMM. "Your MMM will soon be shut down, NDIC is now on you peoples case" That was my early morning greeting from him.

Apparently The below statement was credited to the MD of Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC).

The Federal Government of Nigeria has initiated moves to shut down MMM operations in Nigeria.
Managing Director of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), Alhaji Umaru Ibrahim, said regulators have set up a Committee to stem the nefarious activities of the fraudsters across the country.
“I wish to sound a word of caution to members of the public on the activities of illegal fund managers, otherwise known as Wonder Banks.
"It is worrisome to note that despite repeated advice, many unsuspecting members of the public are still falling victims to the mouth-watering interest being offered by these illegal fund managers.
"Members of the public are therefore advised to patronise only banking institutions that display the NDIC sticker: “Insured by NDIC” in their banking halls or entrances.
"However, the regulatory authorities have set up an inter-agency committee under the Financial Services Regulatory Coordinating Committee(FRSCC) to stem the nefarious activities of these fraudster across the nation”.
Umaru spoke on Monday during the NDIC Special Day at the 2016 Lagos International Trade Fair.

So as i have done in the past , i will post my little response to the laughable comment.
1.) NDIC, Where are our deposits in Savanna, Societe Generale and other failed banks?
2.) Why are the government agencies using panadol for another man's headache? Is it their money we are providing help with?
3.) Why are they calling MMM fraudulent? Has anyone come to complain that he or she has been defrauded?
4.) Who is this MMM they are even talking about? MMM is the participants, millions of letters of happiness abound on youtube. just search with "MMM Pays"
5.) Illegal fund managers? Who is managing what fund? It goes a long way to show the lack of research of the people in positions of leadership. Go and research about MMM, call participants to find out details of how it works before you start casting aspersions on the community of people simply providing help to one another.
6.) How does the risk i am taking with my hard earned money affect the NDIC?

In summary
a.) MMM is not a bank talk less of a wonder bank. b.) MMM is not fraudulent in any way because MMM does not take funds from anyone c.) MMM is not a fund manager talk less of being an illegal one. d.) MMM does not give interest, it is neither a deposit nor an investment. e.) There are no victims in MMM, MMM does not guarantee safety of your money hence the advice to use only spare money. f.) MMM simply have members who give money to each other. I would like to see the constitution provision against such selflessness. g.) There are no unsuspecting members in MMM, the terms and conditions are boldly written for all to see. h.) MMM is could possibly be much more regulated than many of the banks, MMM can't fail as long as the Members continue to PH and GH.

THE SCOURGE CALLED MMM NIGERIA

I tried as much as possible to summarize this write up as best as i could, but somehow it still extended like my mavro :D

What exactly is MMM ?

MMM started out as a cooperative society in 1989. MMM started in Russia, it attracted people by giving free bus rides. Before long MMM was controlling a third of the Russian economy, this did not go down well with the Government so it was shut down. Not for any fraudulent reason, but for some trumped up tax evasion.
The founder went to jail, but it might interest you to know that Sergey Mavrodi won an Election to the state Duma right from prison

During that time, MMM used to keep cash in the office, the Russian govt made away with 17 trucks of cash.
There was a rebirth in 1994, MMM stopped keeping cash, they put the cash in the hands of managers/Guiders, the govt came for them again and they made away with the cash.

In 2011, the new method of MMM started where the cash no longer resides with individuals or individual. The cash resides with the participants, That way it was immune to the external forces.

How does MMM work?
Very simple!!! The ideal situation is this, Instead of taking your spare money to the bank or any other savings organisation, you make it available to participants. It is called providing help.
e.g. You have 100k, You require just 80k. the remaining 20K, instead of putting it in your account, use it to provide help for someone on MMM platform.
Whenever you require that 20k, you also can request for help. As simple as that.

How does MMM make the 30% promised participants since the money is not invested anywhere?

This is naturally the next question and i would like to answer it with a little question of my own.

You bought a car for 2 Million, you insured the car and you are to pay 50K annually for premium. You paid the first and second years (totaling 100k), then something happens. You return to the insurance company and you are paid the full 2 million (or whatever their calculation comes to).

How did the insurance company come about the remaining 1.9 Million since u have only paid for 2 years ???? The answer to that question should answer the 30% question also.

Simply put, The 30% comes from the members.

Can MMM crash?
Of course MMM can crash, but MMM can only crash if the participants panic. Panic is the only thing that can crash MMM.

If everybody in skye bank decide to make a withdrawal today, the bank will be unable to meet its commitment. The same goes for any other bank or insurance company or pension fund.

For SA, it was a calculated media campaign orchestrated by the financial institutions that caused a panic hence the stop.

EFCC on MMM -Source Unknown

I listened to NTA and was interested to hear from EFCC spokesman. He said it's not Law enforcement that will stop MMM but awareness for people not to patronize it. The law enforcement is aware that MMM doesn’t go against any law of the land. That even their operatives may be participants.
The truth is that the people sponsoring all these media war are majorly stock brokers. The stock market is in shambles, they are the highest scam. So no sane Nigeria will allow his money to remain there after experiencing MMM. The banks are afraid not because they re not gaining alot from MMM but the deposits they use to loan out are gone. Depositors are breaking their fix deposits on daily basis and doing MMM. Our banks will be more of doing retail banking activities like transferring money than using people's money to amass wealth and keep the owners poor.

This is real financial revolution and you and I know that revolution comes with heavy price. It's either we be steadfast and win through this revolution and get financial freedom or we chicken out and remain on financial bondage.

MMM Russia has a dark untold history, it is easy to assume that the darkness was created by the founder(s) of MMM; however a deeper search reveals that there is a grand conspiracy that attempts to eliminate MMM and every other idea that tries to democratize luck.

MMM was conceived twenty seven years ago, for close to three decades, MMM’s failures have always been perpetrated by a class of people – the ruling class. I sought to understand why anyone will want to close down a community which claims to connect its participants to each other so that they can help each other.

Over the years, the answer has changed. In the 1990s, the popular answer was the founders kept all participants’ money and they could run with the money since government doesn’t monitor them. The early 2000s had a different answer; the popular opinion was the money was kept by guiders (participants who attend MMM school so that they can become leaders). There was fear that the guiders could run away with the money. The 2010s has a new answer, the answer is unclear. There is no logic to the answer. The answer is simple yet complex. The MMM critics of the 2010s believe even though MMM doesn’t collect money from its participants, MMM is still a scam. In the 2010s, MMM participants pay money to each other’s bank account. The money is in the bank, safe and secure. Or is there something deeper. Read on…

How and why did participants lose money in the 1990s? Russian government came one day with seventeen black vans to take all the billions of people’s monies with MMM (monies were kept in their head office) and they arrested its founder for tax invasion (not fraud). This happened in the presence of MMM participants, little wonder, the same MMM participants voted in millions to ensure MMM’s founder becomes a member of the Russian parliament. Mr Sergey Mavrodi’s (founder of MMM) victory at the polls was his ticket out of jail. Why did the story end badly for some participants? It is reported that some committed suicide because their money was taken. This was not them reacting to the man who was trying to make them financially free in a communist Russia, it was them reacting to a government that took all their monies away.

The major source of news about MMM is Wikipedia. Wikipedia’s founder is a wanted man in the United States of America and so many countries, he is in hiding; He unapologetically published personal mails allegedly hacked by Russia to influence an American election. Wikipedia has destroyed a lot of lives with its half truths and one sided stories. I find it hard to believe that we will trust Wikipedia without listening to the other party.

The prevalent question in my mind is why is the ruling class using its weapon (power, media and money) portraying MMM as a scam since MMM doesn’t collect money from its participants. It is like saying Facebook Inc. is a scam. Facebook cannot scam you (as a user) because facebook doesn’t collect money from you. You sign up for free. In the same light, participants sign up to MMM for free. MMM simply connects the participants to each other. The question is why? Zuckerberg was connecting us to old friends when he didn’t even know how Facebook will make profit, why? He said he wanted to create a more open and connected world. Mavrodi also claims he wants to create a fairer world, a fairer financial system.

We agree that MMM has never collected money from its participants since 1994, so why is it regarded as a scam. Critics say the system is not sustainable and at some point, it will crash. They say at some point, there will not be enough people to “provide help (an MMM term meaning donate money)” to those who want to “Get Help (an MMM term meaning receive money)”. To receive money, you must have previously donated or referred someone to join the community.

After reviewing their point, I believe what critics mean to say is; MMM is not a scam but MMM is not sustainable. At this point, there is no way MMM can use any fraudulent way to collect money from its participants, therefore I can say MMM is not a scam. If MMM opened a bank account, it would be frozen so there is no chance. MMM is not a scam but is MMM sustainable?

One thing I have learnt from the critics of MMM is their method of proving they are right. Their method is similar to what I saw in a movie. A lady wanted to proof her brother’s wife was a thief, so the lady stole an item and kept it in her brother’s wife purse. I began to wonder who the thief is. The World Bank and a lot of global organizations claim their goal is to reduce global extreme poverty yet they pay a lot of lip service to the pursuit of this noble goal.

They neglect the ideas that can truly reduce poverty and spend more time pursuing the policies of their sponsors (big global banks and individuals). Most critics of MMM will share untrue stories about MMM (like the MMM crash in Lagos or Zimbabwe) and do anything (it is amazing) to ensure the crash they had predicted eventually happens. They remind me of the woman in the movie. It is a dirty fight and I think MMM participants are not doing enough to share the light of what MMM is doing for them.

We have come to a conclusion that MMM is not a scam but we haven’t agreed it is sustainable. To understand its sustainability or un-sustainability, let’s do the scam test. If MMM fails today, who wins? No one wins emotionally but those who have gotten help win financially and those who have provided help lose financially. The MMM brand becomes worse and its founders will be cursed. So its founders don’t gain financially. It is some participants that gain financially and some participants lose financially. When I understood this truth, I stopped calling MMM a scam. I then wondered why Mr Sergey Mavrodi will keep punishing himself, his name, risking jail term or worse for a system that is not sustainable.

I wanted to understand his mind so I read his books (available on amazon), articles, saw his movie about MMM 94 (self sponsored by Mr Mavrodi with major actors from Russia and Hollywood. Available for free on Youtube and MMM website). I discovered he had one goal and I put it simply; Mr Sergey Mavrodi’s goal is to “democratize luck”. Henry Ford wanted to democratize cars and ensure it is affordable so that every hardworking person can buy one. Tony Elumelu wanted to institutionalize luck so he created The Tony Elumelu Foundation giving no-strings attached grants to 10,000 entrepreneurs within 10years. So many other people have big dreams such as this, to eliminate global poverty. Mr Sergey Mavrodi wants people to work not because they need money but because they enjoy the job, this way our school teachers by destiny won’t end up as bankers because of money – working hard at a job they hate. If money wasn’t king, people will do jobs they love and do it will the spirit of excellence. If Michael Jackson grew up in Nigeria, we would have ended up in ajegunle struggling. America doesn’t need Sergey’s MMM because they have their own version and the live their version, popularly called the American Dream. This dream helped Bill Gates sit down in meetings with IBM executives, get a loan of $1millions and more. In Africa and other third world nations, there is no dream for the people. There is pain, tears and sorrow. The big question is will this amazing dream of Mavrodi work with the MMM system?

The only way to know is to ask what the system itself is. It is participants donating money to each other and getting 30% reward. It is based on the principle that we don’t all need money at the same time. To understand it better, let us assume there are five people in MMM, Mr A, B, C, D and E. Mr A donates 10, 000 to Mr E (who has previously donated) Mr E uses the money to settle an urgent bill. Mr B donates to Mr A. Mr C donates to Mr B. Mr D donates to Mr C. Mr E gets his salary of 100,000, pledges to donate 15,000 and donates it to Mr D. Money is just moving round to settle debts, bills and create new value. The population the banks will never look at have found a new way to get the money they need without having to collect any loans. If they continue using their bank accounts, the banks will keep winning because of the fast movement of money leads to more bank charges. No new money is created so inflation is not created. No excess money will be in the economy. In essence, everyone wins.

The system can be sustained if everyone comes together to make it work. The banking system will fail if we all withdraw our money at the same time (bank run). Insurance companies will die if all but one person refuses to pay premiums; they will be unable to pay the person in case of any accident or loss.

MMM is good for Africa, it doesn’t compete with the banks because banks already do not loan money to the majority. The loans go to the 10% who have collateral which is good for banking. With MMM more people will open bank accounts (since MMM participants relate with their bank account) and banks will reach the unbanked. We need to get more Nigerians into the banking system. MMM has also helped banks promote their online and USSD banking platforms. MMM has helped entrepreneurs source for money for their ideas within a realistic time. MMM has inspired participants to spend more in a recession. This is keeping a lot of big and small businesses afloat. If you see anyone buying cars, houses or valuables in today’s Nigeria, they are probably involved in businesses where they earn in foreign currencies, extremely rich or engaged in … you guessed right – MMM.

This is good for everyone. The stock market can bounce back on the MMM wave as people become more confident to diversify. Nigerians are in positive spirit because of MMM. People who couldn’t pay school fees paid with ease. People eat better and live better. Over one million Nigerians engaged in MMM have positive story to tell.
After my research, I asked myself. Would I be the lady who wanted to proof her sister in-law is a thief so she stole and kept it in her sister in-laws bag or will I be the person who will find out if truly her sister-in-law is a thief and when I find her innocent, declare her to be innocent. My choice is clear.

I asked a member of the ruling class who instructed his human resource unit to send a mail warning all members of staff not to participate in MMM why he is anti-MMM. He said if they continue with MMM, one day, the might resign and see no need to work. I said really? So because you are a multi-millionaire, your kids won’t work? He then voiced his real concern. They will be financially free and won’t take his excesses anymore since they can start their own business or resign and not suffer while they search for a better working environment.

Why MMM is ranked the best Financial Aid Community in the world
Unlike every other scheme which happens to be MLM (multi-level Marketing) where it is a must to put in a specific amount and invite people into the scheme before you can earn anything, MMM dont even need you to do that, just contribute any amount you can and then your 30% awaits you at the end of the month.

Other Online Scheme has a central account where all the monies are paid into, which makes it easy for the scheme to be attacked by anybody or even the said company can cart away with your money. But thats not the case with MMM, because there is no central account anywhere, rather, the transactions are only carried out among the participants in the community that has been paired together by the system. Other online Schemes are rigorous and sometimes, even those who has registered and has paid will end up not getting their reward at the end of the day. But MMM will make sure your 30% is paid. And if the person that has been assigned to pay you refuses to pay you after the stipulated time (usually 48hrs) the person will be blocked out of the community and another person will be assigned to pay you your money.

If it were to be other online investments that has received all this media publications by the SEC and CBN this recent times, i am so 100% sure that they would have folded up, but rather, MMM stood her ground with the collective corporations and believes held unto by all the participants. Therefore, MMM can't go bankrupt. The founder and leaders of MMM are public figures. They regularly record video messages. Since January 10, 2011 MMM has never stopped its activity. It is impossible that one day MMM will close down and will cease to exist

The main factor of MMM’s success is a continuous progressive growth of the active members of the Community who are actively engaged in the development of the system, and, in addition, request assistance not in the full amount, which they have available, but only the amount which they really need for their personal and family needs. However, it is incorrect to say that the participation in MMM does not pose any risk. There are some risks! And we want to tell about them publicly and in detail. As you know, in the PO the Community member, after he/she has donated money, is charged with the conventional unit – mavros, which constantly grows, and he/she also can see the maximum assistance which is allowed to request. But theoretically it might happen that the participant asks for help, and this assistance is not provided (the order to receive money doesn’t come). This would occur if the total number of requests for assistance exceeded the amount of requests to provide assistance (in other words - more people want to get donations than to donate themselves). The worst-case scenario in this situation is restart when the received mavros are cancelled. In this case, the work of the Community is re-launched and all participants can continue to participate from zero. However, the members of the MMM Community have developed a lot of measures to avoid this scenario.

What measures are taken to provide reliable work of the MMM Community?

When the number of the Community members is growing, the pyramid scheme allows each participant to receive a larger amount of donation than he did. But a pyramid scheme is not very effective when growth rates are low and when a lot of participants have requested assistance at the same moment. Therefore, MMM uses a number of other mechanisms to stabilize the Community work in such situations. They include:

1. Pause Mode. During the Pause Mode, the mavos which accrued in the participant’s Personal Office before the beginning of this mode, stop its growth. As the Pause Mode ends, the "old" mavros continue growing again, and you can get help. The Pause Mode can last for one to two months. While paused, you can exchange all the old mavros, but at a floating ratio.

2. Floating Ratio. If it is impossible to pay the requested amount fully to the participants, there can be introduced a special ratio and participants will receive assistance in part. For example, during the previous Pause Mode, it was allowed to exchange all mavros and get help, which would be 110% of that you had gave.

3. Installment Receipts. MMM follows the rule - the order to receive money should come in half an hour after making the request. But in the difficult for the Community period, participants may not receive help immediately, but in parts (for example, each week they will receive an installment of 25% of the amount requested).

All the measures described above are the precautions for the future. Now MMM global is working successfully, and taking any of the pointed measures is not required!

What can I personally do for our Community security?

The Community members do not have any legal obligations and agreements. Taking part in the Community is a personal decision of each participant and his personal responsibility. There couldn’t be any guarantees and promises in principle. The work of the Community depends entirely on its members’ behavior. At the same time, there are a few simple tips and recommendations, which will make participation in MMM safer for you:

1.Don’t donate the sum which is critical for you. Remember: in MMM money is not invested, but donated by some participants to other ones. It is better to help with a little money, but to do it sincerely and with all your heart.

2. Regularly give and ask for help. It is unwise to wait until the amount available for withdrawal, will be astronomically large, and then request the entire amount at once. It's harmful for you and for the community as a whole. MMM was not created for enrichment, but for other purposes. It is safer to help weekly with a small amount (regard MMM as a piggy bank). Don't hesitate to ask for assistance whenever it is necessary, but not more than you need. I.e. if you want to buy a TV for $ 1000, you don’t have to request assistance for 10 thousand dollars.

3. Tell about MMM and invite to the Community. As it has been mentioned earlier, the work of the Community wholly and fully depends on the activity and actions of its participants. MMM will work in a stable way if each participant invites just one new member per month. It is simple to tell about MMM - our Community is open to all people regardless of status and income level. We are proud of what we are doing. And don't forget to mention that MMM is a Community of mutual help, and not a way of making money.

4. Be positive to it. We want MMM to bring people only positive emotions. We want the members of our Community to be happy and share happiness with others. Be sincere with yourself and don't venture a lot of money, so as not to worry later. On the Internet there are a lot of scam projects. And if you have visited MMM site for the first time, you will doubt: what's true and what's false. I think it is imperative for agencies and individuals to research before making g g unguarded speeches and comments. I read the SEC's comments on MMM and would like to respond as such.

1. MMM is a scam!
MMM is successful for over 4 yrs in over 100 countries. What kind of scam spreads as such? You only need to search youtube using "MMM pays" to see Millions of testimonies.

2. Is it Legal?
MMM is not a company/bank etc. It is a community of people helping each other with their own money from which taxes have already been paid. No law forbids people from sharing their own money. If there is one such law, i am yet to come across it.

3. Is it a Ponzi scheme?
Unlike ponzi schemes, MMM is open and clear about its operations and processes. Participants are the only source of financial aid to other participants. it is peer-to-peer. No guarantees and this is clearly communicated to participants. There is possibility of not getting hep despite the fact that you have provided help.

4. Is it a pyramid?
MMM works with the same principle as banks, insurance companies and pension funds. Whatever you wish to call those, same applies here.

MMM: ROBBING PETER TO PAY PAUL?
That is what a lot of people against MMM are saying, including You! If not so, where is the 30% coming from? they ask.
I have news for you, if MMM’s 30% is “robbing Peter to pay Paul” then you need to stop putting your money in the bank because the 1% to 2% interest from banks is from other peoples’ deposits which according to you is “robbing Peter to pay Paul”. Do you think the bank can pay the tiniest interest if other people’s money is not involved?

What most people do not understand is that when you deposit your money in the bank, they immediately use your money in one or more of the following ways:
1. Allow another depositor to withdraw when they request to do so.
2. Give out loans to those seeking loans from the bank
3. Pay workers’ salary including bank managers, clerks, marketers, cashiers, tellers, cleaners, security guards etc.
4. Buy equipments needed for smooth operations like generator, computer systems, communication gadgets etc.
5. Sponsor the expensive lifestyles of bank executives including the next trip to America or Dubai.
6. Other running costs of the bank

Just imagine! Did you know this? See what our deposits are used to accomplish! Now, for the privilege of using our deposits in the above ways, the bank rewards us with 1% or 2% interest (up to 6% if fixed deposit) provided the money stays with them for over a month. Imagine! Just 2% after all that!

Consider this; you deposit 100k with your bank and after 2 weeks you return to withdraw the entire 100k. Question is do you think it is your actual 100k they gave you? NO! Your actual deposit has already been used in one or more of the ways mentioned above and the 100k they give you is because of fresh deposits the bank recently received. If you look closely, you will realize that banks can pay more interest than they give, but that means sacrificing the expensive lifestyle of the bank executives. Why will they cancel that next trip to Dubai because of you? Think.

However, in MMM the ONLY thing your money is used for is paying another participant due for payment directly, no middleman. There are no salaries to pay, no running costs, nobody collecting loans, no bank executive’s expensive lifestyle to support. So you can see that MMM can conveniently offer 30% rewards for your willing and generous donations to fellow participants. Therefore, whether 2% or 30% interest it all comes from the same source: other people’s money (OPM).

Now let’s talk about insurance companies. I believe they are the epitome of the so called “robbing Peter to pay Paul” allegation. How does insurance work? Suppose you insure your property against fire for 2 million naira and they charge you a monthly premium of 20k. You faithfully pay your monthly premiums without fail, and then on the 6th month the unexpected happens, fire guts your property! After the usual investigation, the insurance company is satisfied you have a genuine claim, they pay you 2 million naira. The question is where did the 2million naira come from? Your personal payment is only 120k, so how come 2million naira? Well, the 2 million is from other premium payments to the insurance company by other participants. Imagine what will happen if everyone on insurance with a particular company all have genuine claims at the same time? They cannot cope! In any case, the payment is from other people’s premium payment, which according to some (maybe you) is “robbing Peter to pay Paul”.

If your eyes have been opened to the fact that whether 2% or 30%, they come from the same source and you realize that 30% is way better than 2%, lets grow 30% every month together.

If however you are still convinced the whole thing is “robbing Peter to pay Paul” I will suggest you withdraw all your money from the bank, cancel all your insurance (including your National Health Insurance Scheme) and keep your money under your bed, in your pillow/pillowcase or dig a hole in your backyard to keep your money. That is the only way you won’t participate in this “robbing Peter to pay Paul” business. But your money cannot grow that way whether 2% or 30%.

If you realize that 2% is too small and will like to enjoy 30% growth instead, then you know what to do and let us grow at the rate of 30% per month without greed or selfishness, but willingly helping one another to escape into financial freedom. Nigerians not only holidayed at home in their villages, at Yankari Games Reserve, at Obudu Cattle Ranch,

at Oguta Lake, at Ikogosi springs, at Gurara Falls, at Mambilla Platueau, etc, we attracted international tourists who brought in loads of foreign exchange. Even Nigerian schools were foreign exchange earners because they attracted foreign students.

“We had different car assembly plants – Peugeot, Volkswagen, Anamco etc. Nigerian government officials only bought vehicles assembled in Nigeria for official cars. We had a thriving sports industry. We were not Man United or Chelsea fans, we were Rangers or IICC fans. We had the Nduka Odizors, people made money from sports. We also had companies like Lennards and Bata producing school shoes in their thousands, we had the thriving Nigerian Airways and the Aviation School in the north that produced some of the best pilots in the world. In those days if you were brilliant you were respected much more than the crass money-miss-road contractors of today. Most of the Aje Butters I knew had fathers who were university dons. Back then it meant something to ‘know book’. Our textile industry was alive and well. Just recently I watched a news report on the textile industry in Nigeria on CCTV News. Though the main focus was on the comatose status of the industry, I was stunned by the gigantic Kaduna Textile Mill built in 1957. I could go on and on.

“Today however, no thanks to our parents (and we must call them out the way Wole Soyinka did his generation) and many of us (and we should be remembered for failing our children if we continue like this), we have destroyed everything. Today for instance Nigerian football (which comes easy to me obviously) doesn’t appeal to us, we have to fly across thousands of miles to watch ‘our’ clubs play. Every year we collectively burn billions of Naira being fans of clubs that give us nothing back, but some ‘entertainment value’ – simple pleasures for which we are ready to destroy the future of our children.

“Well people, payback time is here. Even with our ta-she-re money we all want to wear designer clothes and carry designer bags, Armani, Givenchy, Louis Vuitton etc. We all want to drive jeeps with American specs,our children must now school overseas and acquire the necessary accents to come back home and bamboozle their ‘bush

and crass’ contemporaries that they left behind. Who holidays in

Nigeria anymore, is there Disneyland here? No one buys made-in-Nigeria school bags for their children, after all no Superman or Incredible Hulk or Cinderella on them.

“We are no longer top exporters of anything and the demise of oil means we have zilch… zero. A country of 170M fashion- conscious people has no textile industry. We take delight in showing how our made-in-Switzerland Aso Ebi is different class to everyone else’s. When we help our musicians grow and pay them millions, they repay us by immediately shipping the monies overseas to produce their “i-don-dey-different-level” music videos. It makes no difference that distinctly Zulu dancers are

dancing to a Nigerian highlife song.

“As stars concerned they also wed and holiday overseas to impress us all. All the musicians who acknowledge their Ajegunle roots now speak in a cocktail of range accents to symbolise how much they have blown their monies overseas. Were we a more serious people, the highly popular Kingsway Stores of the past would probably have a thousand outlets pan Nigeria today supporting a massive agriculture industry among others, but today we have the likes of SPAR, Shoprite, dominating the retail industry while Kingsway is dead.

“And we Nigerians make it a special point to shop from the Oyinbos who have ‘cleaner shops’, ‘better this and better that’. For our personal pleasure we don’t mind them dominating us in our own backyard and shipping proceeds overseas. I could go on and on, but I don tire. Even as you are reading this, stop for a moment and look around you. What you see will probably explain why we are lucky it is not N1000 to the USD yet. And don’t think for a moment that it cannot get there.

“Just continue to wear your Armani gear and Swiss-made lace, continue to spend your money on Man United, Arsenal,Chelsea and Barca and encourage your children to do

same. I got this off a friends facebook page and decided to share.

A 24-year old boy looking out through a train's window shouted, Dad, look, "the trees are going behind; they are moving very fast" his Dad simply stared at him with so much joy and smiled! A young couple seated nearby looked at the 24-year old and thought to themselves, he's so grown up but so childish, he must have a mental disorder for his father not to be bothered.
Suddenly the young man exclaimed again; Dad, look, "the clouds are running with us" the couple could not resist and said to the old man, why don't you take your son to a good doctor may be a psychiatrist? The old man smiled and said I just did. We are just coming from a doctor but not a psychiatrist ; we are just coming from the hospital. My son was blind from birth. He just got his sight today for the very first time, his behavior may seem stupid to you, it's more than a miracle to me.
The young couple just sat down there, lost for words with a mixture of tears and shame in their eyes.. Everybody on earth has a story; don't judge people so fast or jump into conclusion about their private affairs; you don't know where they are coming from or what they have to deal with. The truth behind their story might surprise you. Take it easy with others, even if you have a perfect life....I stole this from a friend, it melted my heart.

The return of Tosin.

The return journey for Tosin started 11:45 pm on 26th April with an hour journey from the city of Bangalore to the Bengaluru int'l airport. a 3 hour wait before departure for Dubai, a 3 Hour 30 minutes flight to Dubai int'l airport, a 7 hour wait to board a connecting flight to Lagos Nigeria and finally another 7+ hours flight to Lagos.

The flight arrived to schedule, give or take a few minutes, Tosin and all other passengers disembarked and proceeded to the immigration counter. There was no incident here apart from the fact that there was little or no organisation and the room was excessively hot despite the fact that it was already night time.
After clearing immigration, Tosin proceeded to the baggage claim area to pick his baggage. Lo and behold, it took upwards of 2 hours before Tosin got his baggage. people were already getting worried and agitated. Someone even wondered aloud if his baggage had not been mistakenly returned to Dubai or transferred somewhere else. To make matters worse, the room was not air-conditioned and contained over 300 passengers that had just alighted from the emirates Boeing 777-300 airplane and some other people from a KLM flight. It was a terrible, hot and smelly situation.

Oh! Did i mention that Superstar DJ, The only DJ fit to play for the gods A.K.A. "This is football", A.K.A "It is I" was also there. after rocking his business class return trip from Dubai, I looked across at him waiting for close to an hour or more awaiting his baggage in his Manchester united jersey, rucksack on his back in the hot and overcrowded baggage claim section.

Incident 1. Tosin had to pay to get a trolley to move his baggage. This still remains the only country i have heard that being done (I stand to be corrected).

Incident 2. After getting his baggage and proceeding for the exits, he was accosted by the Immigration/NDLEA officials who requested that he opened his boxes. Due to the fact that He had to take off all metalic at different screening points, Tosin had dropped the keys to his baggage inside his laptop bag. This was the occasion when the yeye key decided to hide itself. so Tosin had to empty the contents of the bag in search of the keys. As he was doing this, a senior officer walked to the one attending to Tosin and the following conversation ensued:

Senior Officer: What is happening here ?
Junior Officer: He is looking for his keys to open his box.
Senior Officer: He is taking too long, he will cause hold up here o.
Junior Officer: Have you found the keys ? (To Tosin)
Tosin: Not yet
Senior Officer: Instead of wasting time, why not tell him what to do!
Junior Officer: I have told him
Senior Officer: Let him drop something and move on
Junior Officer: You heard Oga (To Tosin, who didn't reply)
Senior Officer: Let him drop €50 or $100 and move on, we are not interested in his baggage.

Without doing anything, they wanted to collect $100 (#17k at that time) from Tosin! If they had lifted his box on their head and taken it to the new car park which is quite some distance from from the arrival hall, it still wouldn't have warranted asking for € 50 (#12k at that time).

As if by cue, Tosin found the keys and opened the box! No contraband!
Officers: Oga you can go! You harsh o! You no even answer as we dey talk! You be Ijebu man?

Remember Tosin had vowed that the next time he is travelling, he will be prepared and make sure everything was intact with no reason for anyone to try to try and delay him...

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!!!

The Flight touched down at a few minutes after 7 pm and Tosin finally got home 11:45 pm. 2+ hours to get the baggage and get out of the airport.

The remaining time was spent trying to get to the car park which is miles away and there were just a couple of golf carts (or whatever they are called) to transport passengers.

Then the mad traffic.

REVISITING AN OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT JONATHAN BY SEGUN SOKOYA ON (SUNDAY) 10TH JUNE 2012

Dear President Jonathan,

My friends call me Sokii, but you, well just call me Segun. I have watched you in the last one year jump from pillar to post under the pretext of governance; clinging to the inconsequential and deliberately ignoring that which the times demand of governance in today’s Nigeria. From the moment you were sworn in as an elected president, it’s been a galore of gaffes and conscious distraction of Nigerians from the things that actually do matter to them. Within weeks of your Presidency, your first executive move was to amend the constitution so as to allow for president and governors to serve just one term of six years in office. Not sooner than the dust raised by that move settled, you declared an economic war on the Nigerian people with an imposition of fuel tax, called fuel subsidy removal, which was just a way designed for you to avoid confronting your friends and officials who defrauded the country you preside over.

Mr President, you may recall that last October, during a church service to commemorate Nigeria’s Independence Day, you lamented that we condemn you at home while Obama commends you abroad. Even then, we argued that Obama’s commendation of you – whatever it was meant to achieve – was ill-timed and ill-informed. We reasoned that we were the ones who elected you our president and so were best qualified to assess your performance in office. Today, the table has turned. Does Obama still commend you? Just in case you haven’t heard, the United States government has seen you for whom you are – a president who presides over a criminal empire without making any meaningful efforts to curtail corruption. Before you dismiss my message as another baseless rant from a disgruntled opposition member, kindly read this, Sir:

In its year 2011 report on global human rights released Thursday by the State Department, the U.S. said the three tiers of the Nigerian government was ridden with “massive, widespread and pervasive corruption,” that failed to receive appropriate punitive response from the authorities. “The law provides criminal penalties for official corruption; however, the government did not implement the law effectively, and officials frequently engaged in corrupt practices with impunity,”the report, submitted by Secretary of States, Hillary Clinton, to the U.S. Congress said. “Massive, widespread, and pervasive corruption affected all levels of government and the security forces,” it continued. So this is what your government has come to be known for.

Still in that church service, Sir, you told Nigerians that God was the captain of the Nigerian ship. So I had expected you to show more than a passing interest in surrendering the fight against corruption to God. But I was surprised that when the rare opportunity came, last Sunday, during another church service – this time to commemorate your one year in office – you refused to support the man of God who pleaded that you and your administration officials took the fight against corruption to the alter of God. What were you afraid of, Mr President? That, Sir, speaks volumes about your sincerity in the corruption war. And that brings me to the role you played in the hurried moving of N155 billion out of our account under a questionable circumstance. It was done a day before Okonjo-Iweala resumed as your Finance Minister. And the characters involved in the transaction, the Etetes, is the reason I will need your explanation on this.

I will go straight to your Democracy Day speech. As expected, it could not boast of any visible achievement other than economic indices and statistics that were quite divorced from the stark realities on ground. You showed an amazing excitement when you announced your administration’s empowerment of 1200 youths who benefited from your Youth Enterprise with Innovative Programme, YouWin. I was surprised that such was considered an achievement by you, Sir, let alone being included in your anniversary speech. Mr President, may I humbly inform you that 70 per cent of the Nigerian population is comprised of people who are thirty five years and below. Each year, Sir, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) churns out at least 100 thousand young Nigerians who throng into the labour market in search of non-existent jobs. This is in spite of the fact that a larger percent of those who passed out before them may not have gotten jobs. So why should we be excited about 1200 people in a population of 160 million? Is it a deliberate celebration of mediocrity or just an attempt to appear serious with the job we elected you to do?

In reference to electricity supply, you said, “By mid-2010, the national power output was about 2,800 MW. By the end of 2011, we reached a peak of more than 4, 000 MW. A National Gas Emergency Plan has also been launched to redress the problem of gas supply which are essentially due to poor planning.” Curiously, you didn't tell us where we were by end of May, or mid-May, the period you were reeling out the achievements. So I ask now, Mr President, where are we on power generation? How many megawatts have we achieved between 2011 and mid-May, 2012? Where we are on electricity generation, Mr President, is on the region of total darkness. The wattage is negligible. Nauseating sound of generators still buzz in my neighbourhood daily, and darkness is the light in the villages where poverty even bites harder. That must be why you jumped it.

The efforts you put in advertising your cassava bread, if not tragic, would have been funny. You cannot re-write history, Sir. Cassava bread is not novel. Your constant efforts to lay claim to it as your achievement in office is worrisome. For the records, on 1st July, 2005, Obasanjo’s government made it mandatory for bakers to include 10% of cassava flour in the production of bread. I followed that administration closely. Yet even at that ,you cannot force people to eat what they do not want. Telling us you eat it makes no difference in our lives. Our billions are stolen by the day, anyway; and you watch without taking any punitive action against the criminals.

Your penchant for majoring in minor, if not entirely irrelevant issues, should worry every sound mind. Your change of Unilag to MKO Abiola University just by a presidential fiat betrayed your love for vanity; your lack of appreciation for substance. And as expected, it stirred up eruptions in the school. Yet rather than quickly reconsider your stand, you declared to many who think you made another gaffe; “no going back”. I know political expediency informed that decision. But unfortunately, that was politically incorrect. It has boomeranged, and will not shield you from the harsh verdict of your critics, which is that your first year in office as president was a total failure.

It was a shock to me that you ended your speech without making any mention of the fuel subsidy scam – the biggest in Nigeria’s history. You said nothing about your plans to prosecute the offenders. In case you don’t know, Mr President, the amount involved in that fraud is N2.6trillion, more than half of our annual budget. If that is not weighty enough to cause you to act, I wonder what will. I have a hunch some 19th century folks have been giving you lessons on how to rule Nigeria in 2012. They may have presented the IBB model and you bought it hook line and sinker. But that will be risky for you, Sir. Unfortunately, you are heading Nigeria at a time when there is only one way to face the task: fight corruption and shun patronage! You cannot do this job the way you want, or the way your predecessors handled it. The cumulative effect of the mess your predecessors put Nigeria into has saturated our landscape, forcing people to demand serious
leadership from their president. Distractions will not just do. And you must understand this, Sir.

And talking about serious leadership; did you hear, Mr President, that Mrs. Joyce Banda, the President of Malawi – an African country – sold off her country’s presidential jet and fleet of 60 limousines? President Joyce declared that she was “happy to offload” the jet and the cars, and she would be travelling on passenger air-planes like every other citizen. Mrs. Joyce Banda understands basic economics and means well for her people. She appreciates the truth that a poor man who seeks future comfort must delay gratification. She is a living example of a serious leader. Can the same be said of you, Mr President? I will not wait for your response, Sir. I know it will never come. The same cannot be said of you. You do not mean well for Nigeria, Mr President. In 2010, you ordered 3 more presidential planes to increase an already over bloated fleet of presidential jets, underscoring your penchant for wasting public funds and downplaying the depth of poverty in our land.

You can’t mean well by having 10 presidential jets when the reality on ground demands that you travel with commercial planes. You can’t mean well with a feeding budget of almost 3 million naira per day in a country where 112 million people live on less than N300 (three hundred naira) per day. You can’t be seen to mean well with the number of cars in your presidential fleet. The British Prime Minister, who runs a civilized economy that is light years ahead of yours, has no official jet.

You have effectively wasted the last one year, Mr President. And for a country with steady drop in life expectancy, we don’t have the luxury of time. We have the need for speed. We need a president who is ready to work, not distract us with an uninspiring campaign for cassava bread. We need Boko Haram’s onslaught on the Nigerian state to be addressed by your government. We need our people to be lifted out of poverty, not some phony statistics. We need leadership, not mediocrity. You, Mr President, have not been a leader in the last one year. But will you be in the remaining three years? I don’t think so. I only hope you prove me wrong.

Your body language tells me your eyes are fixed on 2015. But that is a tragedy on its own; for you maybe, not for me or Nigeria. Most of your moves are made with the intention of securing your seat in 2015. But I am also shocked that neither you nor your advisers understand that the surest way to winning re-election is to work and be seen to have worked. I will be glad to see you declare for re-election. The thoughts of having you as the first sitting president in Nigeria to be emphatically defeated excites me. Kindly follow your secret quest for re-election, Sir. I’d like to see the next sentiment your team will sell to the electorate.

You could see, Mr President, that I didn't have time to pretend about the message I wanted to pass across. You already have enough praise singers to last you a lifetime. Pardon my directness, it was meant to deliver the message in a manner you will be stirred to act. Do have a great day, Sir. I hope the domestic staff will remember to not prepare imported rice for Sunday. Kindly remind them of your “resolve to always eat local rice”. Today should be for Abakaliki or Ofada. And lest I forget; happy anniversary, Mr President!

OUTRAGEOUS LOOTING CLOTHED IN LEGALITY

As we learn more about the pension benefits state governors have legislated for themselves, one cannot help but wonder how a civilised people would have allowed themselves to be so blatantly robbed by a bunch of marauders. Leaders of the world’s richest economies will be aghast at the pension packages our governors have legislated for themselves. Even more incredible is how a civilised people would have allowed this to happen unchallenged, in a supposed democracy. There is nowhere in the world where public officials retire on the same salary as the incumbent when they leave office, otherwise you could have a situation where the government would be paying up to five or six individuals full salaries for a role that only one person is performing. In the United Kingdom for instance, former prime ministers are entitled to just half their salaries when they leave office. Interestingly, Gordon Brown waived his right to this pension package when he left office, considering it to be too generous compared to other public office holders, opting instead for a much reduced pension package. Even the United States, the world’s richest economy, does not pay its former presidents the full salaries of their incumbents. It is not done anywhere in the world.

Even more staggering are the benefits some of these governors have arrogated to themselves – a house in Abuja, another in Lagos, servants, gardeners, a fleet of cars that are changed every three years, a regiment of police and the Department of State Services officers to guard them and their families for life, free medical treatment abroad and a host of other monetised allowances for furniture, cars, utilities and many more allowances that far exceed their salaries. There are no words to describe this greed and banditry. The wickedness of these people is unbelievable, in a country where their fellow countrymen sleep under bridges; where hospitals lack vital equipment; where many pensioners die waiting many years for their meagre pensions to be paid; and civil servants are owed many months in unpaid salaries.

It is foolhardy however to believe that the president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, can change all of this on his own without the help of the masses. The stakes are high and corruption will fight back in the form of threats of impeachment. Buhari will do well to appeal over the heads of legislators direct to the people and Nigerians on their part must be ready to come out in peaceful demonstrations to force the legislators to change the laws that make this banditry possible.

This callous treatment of the people by a few cannot continue whether at national or state level. It was puzzling reading the account of the embattled Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly narrating how he and his colleagues were each given N200, 000 of state money for transport by the governor when they paid him a visit. This was narrated as if it was normal behaviour. In a sane country the Speaker, his colleagues and the governor will be in prison by now.

Like a pack of wolves to the prey, governors have muscled their way into the Senate in large numbers, no doubt to continue feeding their greed at the nation’s expense. They will yet again collect as senators, all the allowances they will receive as ex-governors. So, in effect, they will be paid double allowances for the same expense; furniture, domestic staff, car allowance and so on, including allowances for accommodation even though they are entitled to free houses in Abuja as ex-governors. In addition, they will be paid as senators a package believed to be in excess of N30m a month, the highest remuneration of any lawmaker in the world. Not even the world’s richest economy, with a GDP 35 times that of Nigeria, pays its legislators this much. Our legislators take home in a month more than twice what permanent secretaries and our army generals receive as gratuity after 35 years of public service.

Being in public office in Nigeria is like winning the lottery. It is no wonder they kill to get into office. If you imagine for one moment a state with four surviving ex-governors, by the time the state finishes paying these individuals and the incumbent, there will be no money left for anyone else. Sadly, these stupendous benefits are believed to be widespread in the public sector and in hundreds of our parastatals, especially revenue generating agencies, where board members arrogate to themselves outrageous benefits and pensions packages. They do it because they can; sheer theft clothed in legality!

Although the searchlight is mainly on the Federal Government, state governments are believed to be the citadel of corruption in Nigeria. The president-elect must resist any attempt by governors to impose ministerial nominees on him. He must use the best people for the job wherever he can find them. Apart from perhaps a few progressive governors, the majority of state governors have served Nigeria poorly. A state like Delta State, for instance, at the height of the oil boom was receiving revenue allocations in excess of $100m a month; revenue allocations that far exceeded the income of many African countries that have to maintain national armies. With the resources at the disposal of oil rich states like Delta, we should have a Dubai or a Singapore in Nigeria. Instead, state funds were squandered between the governors, the state lawmakers, traditional rulers and the so-called elder statesmen who pretend to mean well for Nigeria when all they really care about is their belly. Yet, these governors are feted every day with meaningless awards by their cohorts in the private sector, when they should really be in the dock for the mismanagement of public funds. They build schools they don’t send their children, roads they don’t use and hospitals where people go to die because of lack of equipment.

The mantra of the Nigerian Army as they regained territories previously overrun by Boko Haram is so apt for the whole of Nigeria at this juncture in our history – “NEVER AGAIN”!. This slogan should be embedded in our national flag to depict the change Nigerians expect from the incoming government. We cannot continue a system that exists primarily to serve the interest of the few at the expense of the masses. We cannot have a system of governance that is based on patronage where the best people cannot get access to jobs in the Civil Service because they do not have a ‘godfather’. We must look again at the governance structure and processes in both federal and state tiers of government that make it easy for corruption to strive.

The harrowing plight of the hundreds of women and children that were rescued from the Sambisa Forest was distressing; children that will never know a father or a brother because of a government that was asleep on the wheel.

Litter Patrol By AFC Devotional

The ground was flooding from too much rain, and gallons of surplus water sprayed up with each car that traveled down the freeway. Despite the deluge, litter patrols were out in their yellow rain jackets and were going up and down the interstate with their “litter getters” and big garbage bags. Their goal was to keep the city highways clean, no matter what the weather was like, and they were doing a good job.

Observing these hard workers as I drove through the pelting rain, I considered my own spiritual “litter patrol.” Just as this force of dedicated workers faithfully keep the roadways clean, I knew that I also needed to pick up and pack out things that might cause spiritual clutter and decay to my soul.

Looking into my spiritual house, I grabbed a mental garbage bag and considered the past few months. There by the bookcase I saw a box of “self-satisfaction” I needed to get rid of. As I moved on, I observed a can of “self-importance” leaking onto the carpet. I felt a tug at my heart as I hurriedly tossed in a wrapper of “retaliation” that was lying on the sofa. How had it gotten there, I wondered? As I came to the kitchen sink, I noticed a few containers of “boasting” piling up, and I quickly prayed to the Lord to help me as I dropped them into the trash also. This useless litter that was creeping into my life, was starting to take away from the beauty God had given me when I gave Him my life.

Eventually, if we do not check for litter and get rid of it, numerous wrong attitudes can clutter our lives and take over our hearts leaving no place for the Lord to live. These will take away from the love, joy, and peace God gives. Some cleaning may not be an easy task, just as picking up litter was not much fun in the pounding rain. However, it is essential for our spiritual well being.
Let us faithfully devote a few minutes each day to check and remove any appearance of evil or litter that may be accumulating inside. We want our hearts to be clean and uncluttered so the Lord will always be able to dwell in our house without reservation.

OPEN Letter to INEC. Eligible voter about to be disenfranchised

Dear INEC,
My wife and I have visited your office several times at Kosofe local government secretarial in Lagos state to try and obtain our PVC but we were told it does not exist.
Initially we were told that all the Data for our polling unit was lost and we had to re-register (3 days were allocated for the exercise)
However, i was unable to make the 3 days due to the nature of the job i do.

I am writing this email because i am currently confused. My Landlady and her daughter who registered at the same polling unit obtained their PVC about 2 o 3 weeks ago and they told me they did not re-register. We all registered in 2011. I have since visited your office since i discovered this but the result is same.

So i am thinking, how are they able to get their PVC and we are not? If the data was lost, shouldn't it affect everybody?
I would like to know how we can obtain our PVC before the closure date. Might i add that since i have been going to your office, I was told that there was no other provision for re-registering.

Organised and Corporate begging at MMA2 - The Departure

That event occurred in 2012. Fast forward to 2014.
Again Tosin was travelling to the same location and this time around he made sure he had covered every possible scenario. He had every possible document that could be requested for.
Letter of invitation from the firm abroad, letter of introduction from his company here in Nigeria, he made sure he carried nothing above the maximum P.T.A specified by law, had a valid yellow card (He took the 3 mandatory immunizations at the appropriate time), company ID card etc.
The young fellow was determined not to go through the unpalatable incident that occurred 2 years back.
He had everything in place so what could have gone wrong this time? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!! Everything went smoothly and fine without hitches .....
except of course the kind of embarrassing begging that goes on at the international airport.
Where does the begging occur? EVERYWHERE!!!

Point 1: As Tosin approached the departure hall, fierce looking gunmen, sorry, Mobile policemen accosted him at the entrance, asked for his travel documents which he provided. after going through the documents and ascertaining that they were OK, the policemen asked. Oga, today na Friday o! We are loyal, anything for your people ? (Culprits: Mobile Policemen)

Point 2: At the check-in counter, there were 5-6 Immigration officers at the counter so Tosin approached one of them when it was his turn with the baggage he was about to check-in, the Officer did a cursory eye scan on the contents of the box and asked, where are you traveling to? what is the purpose of your travelling? of course Tosin answered both questions politely but firmly with a blank facial expression. Then the officers then asked, Oga you know say today na Friday, find your boys something for the weekend. (Culprits: Immigration Officers)

Point 3: The security check area, This is the main point where Tosin had the encounter with the Immigration in 2012 so he was prepared. They requested for his travel documents which he provided, the he passed his hand luggage and all metal/electronic items on him through the scanners and walked through the metal detector doors. at the other end of the door, he was given a pat down by the officer waiting at the other end and when he was certified OK, the officer asked : You no go find something for you man before you go?

Point 4: Tosin now proceeded to the other end of the scanning machine to retrieve his belongings. On getting there, he was ordered to empty the contents of his laptop bag and pass everything through the scanner again. Being a Techie , the laptop bag was filled with hard drives, pen drives, camera, Multi-USB adapters, spare wrist watch, mobile phone, an iPad, chargers etc. so he was not surprised at the 2nd scan. However, when the 2nd scan was in progress officer attending to him asked. Wetin we dey take do this weekend nau? You suppose shake body for your guy. (Culprit: Immigration Officer)

Point 5: Then he proceeded to the next point, just at the exit of the scanning point. 2 officers were waiting there, they asked Tosin for his purpose of travelling, his destination and the duration of travelling. He answered. They also scanned his travel documents and you know what comes next after that right ? No need to expatiate. (Culprits: Immigration Officers)

Point 6: They usually say a beggar has no choice right ? Not at this next point. The men at the entrance to the departure gates summoned Tosin and his colleague to their desk and asked for their purpose of travelling, destination and the duration of travelling. Of course they answered. Then they added, how much are you travelling with? I hope you are aware that there is a maximum you can carry while traveling they asked? Tosin and his colleague answered all questions rightly so they proceeded to ask the usual last question. Oga wetin we go take do this weekend? Tosin's colleague, Ibo boy confirmed brought out #200 and said take coke money. They officers replied, do you think we are beggars here? what kind of insult is this? Oga bring out correct money, they increased it to #500, then #1,000 still they officers refused. Then one of them asked, don't you have foreign currency? We are bigger than all these things you are bringing out! SO Tosin and colleague then added another #1000 to make it #2,000 and asked them to manage it. (Culprits: No idea! Either NDLEA, EFCC, Immigration or customs, no uniforms)

Point 7: At the boarding gates, some men and women in white shirts/black pants/skirts with reflector jackets were giving each traveler a body pat down before they were allowed to proceed for boarding and just as they finished their search, one of them asked the now almost regular question, bros find you boy something for the weekend, today na Friday. (Culprits: Who knows? NAHCO? Airport staff?)

Imagine the rigors you go through just to travel. Everyone wants a piece of the pie. The fact that you are travelling out automatically means you must be loaded.

3 years later, The tinted glass saga continues Part 2

Friday, May 2nd 2014, On this faithful day, i was arrested by the police for driving a vehicle that had rear tinted glasses despite the fact that they were factory fitted and i had also obtained a police permit at a fee close to #15,000.

When i got to the police station, i discovered that several cars had been arrested and the whole place was littered with minivans and SUV's. My keys were handed over to an officer who was being referred to as SO (I guess this means Station officer) and our conversation goes thus:

SO: What should i book him for?
Arresting Policeman: Tinted glass (As if tinted glass is an offense)
SO: Can i see your particulars? Do you have a permit for tinted glass? This is mandatory for all factory fitted tinted glass
Me: I Have, all my papers are complete, you can confirm from the documents handed over to you by the person that arrested me
SO: So why did they arrest you if you have the document? Are you sure it is not fake?
Me: It is not fake, i am as surprised as you are that i was arrested despite possessing the right paper.
SO: Hold on, make i go see oga (DPO)

He walks off to the the DPO and after a few minutes,he returned. During his absence, the other police officers sitted behind the counter told me not to worry since i had the correct papers, i would be released. So i waited for the return of the station officer. and when he came, he said:

SO: Go and make a copy of these documents for me so i can have a copy as evidence to show say i release you because your document dey complete
I promptly went to make photocopies of the documents and handed over a set to him. Then he asked me to locate my keys among the lot, handed over a my particulars to me and said you are free to go. I was surprised and impressed that i could go to the police station, return free without paying a single dime ........
That was until until the arresting officer walked in and saw that i was being released.

Arresting Policeman: Wetin dey happen here? SO! Why you dey release this man? No release anybody without our permission
SO: Oga say make i release am since he get the correct documents.
Arresting Policeman: LaiLai! No release anybody, i dey go see oga.

The DPO said i should be released, a nobody says NO! So much for rank and orderliness in the police force. Anyways, i waited till he came back from the DPO's office and announced

Arresting Policeman: Oga say make you no release ANYBODY.!!
Me: So what happens next? You can't just keep me here indefinitely without telling me what is going on
The arresting office walks out murmuring under his breath without replying me.
Anyways, to cut a very long story short, The Station officer said i should cool down and that he will try to locate the DPO who had gone out by that time. After they had kept me for close to 2 hours, the SO finally came back, beckoned me to his empty office and said.
SO: I don locate oga, he say make i release you. but wetin i you go come give me for all the wahala wey i don dey do since?

Aha! It was too good to be true that i would go scot free just like that. Before he asked, just because he attended to me in a proper manner and even went beyond his duties, i had planned to surprise him by giving him. Since he decided to jump the gun and request, i still gave him what i had planned in my mind.

On exiting the the police station, i discovered that my 4 tyres had been deflated and the vulcanizer beside the station inflated it at #200 per tyre. Another source of income for the police 50-50 is my guess since the normal fee charged by vulcanizers is #100.

*SOBS* I just came from alignment and balancing and dis people just deflated my wheels.

The government should come out with a position these kind of laws, inform the masses so that these officers will stop using the porous nature of the laws to defraud the citizenry!

3 years later, The tinted glass saga continues Part 1

On Monday, 28th November 2011, i shared a post on the issue of vehicle Tinted glass, tinted glass permit and the law(s) establishing it. The title of the post "Tinted Glass permit: Fact or Farce ?"

The Minister of Police Affairs at that time, Mr. Humphrey Abah, directed the police to commence the enforcement of the law prohibiting tinted vehicles nationwide as a measure to check use of such vehicles to commit crime, especially kidnapping and transportation of explosive devices and arms.
Mr. Humphrey Abah also said that "All Commissioners of Police in all the states and the FCT are to ensure strict compliance to the law. By this announcement, all permits given in respect of tinted glasses are hereby cancelled"

Since then, the position of the laws still remain unclear. Nobody has been able to intelligently educate me on the issue till date.
I have had several encounters with the police since then, infact the embarrassment was getting too much so i had to go and obtain the permit from the police for a fee close to #15,000. This was after I got hold of excerpts from an interview allegedly granted by the Police Force spokesman, Mr. Sola Amore in quotes
"The order is simple; any vehicle with factory-fitted tinted glass should get a police permit in line with Tinted Glass Act of 1991".

My last encounter with the police is one that got me amazed, angry and confused all at once.

Friday, May 2nd 2014, I went to a gas filling station close to my house to get my wheels aligned and balanced, after the job was done, i headed back home. just at the entrance to my neighborhood i was accosted by some armed policemen in commando fashion. They jumped in front of the car when i was about making the turn. and the following conversation ensued:

Policeman: Park! Park well Oga!, Clear from the road, No block traffic. Oya, switch off your engine.
Me: Good afternoon officer
Policeman: Good afternoon, We are arresting you because of your tinted glass. Can i see your particulars?
I confidently handed over the documents to him since i knew everything was complete and up to date. To my surprise, the man didn't even glance at the documents, he only ordered me to get into the car and proceed to the police station. So I queried.

Me: Oga you didn't even check the documents i gave you.I have a permit for the tinted glass.
Policeman: Don't worry, I know you have but the permit is for factory fitted tinted glass.
Me: But my glass is factory fitted.
Policeman: No it is not. See oga, don't waste our time.
Me: Then scratch it to confirm if it is indeed factory fitted or if i covered it with any dark film.
Policeman: Oga don't teach me my Job, this glass is too dark to be factory fitted.
Me: Officer, all Toyota Siennas and most cars come with their rear glasses tinted and this is the same shade for all.
Policemen: When you get to the station, you can explain to them. My own duty is to arrest all cars with tinted glass. Whether factory fitted or not, whether with permit or not.That is the radio message that came in today.
