<p>
Sunday's Atlantic 10 Conference men's basketball championship game between Duquesne and VCU was interrupted by confetti falling from the ceiling of the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
<p>
It happened about two minutes into the second half with Duquesne holding a 38-23 lead. VCU had the ball on offense when long streams of confetti began falling down on the court and the fans in the crowd, forcing the officials to stop play.
<p>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">"Confetti is falling on the floor! They're gonna have to stop play! We can't see our notes! The players can't work on this court! CONFETTI IS EVERYWHERE! SOMEBODY HIT THE WRONG BUTTON!" - Kevin Harlan 🏀🎊🎙️🤣<a href="https://t.co/ExbDTlMJJX">pic.twitter.com/ExbDTlMJJX</a></p>— Awful Announcing (@awfulannouncing) <a href="https://twitter.com/awfulannouncing/status/1769433141348024780?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">March 17, 2024</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
<p>
We would guess that the confetti was intended to be dropped after the game was over. Looks like someone jumped the gun on this, and will likely be having a conversation with their boss very soon.
<p>
Meanwhile, Kevin Harlan displayed his versatility by not letting the distraction prevent him from delivering a brilliant call before he and his partner broke down in hysterics:
<blockquote>"My goodness. Oh my gosh! They have confetti falling right now! Confetti is falling on the floor! They're gonna have to stop play! We can't see our notes! The players can't work on this court! Confetti is everywhere! Somebody hit the wrong button!</blockquote>
<p>
Now that's something you don't see every day, but there's a reason why they call this part of the college basketball season "March Madness".
<p>
Interestingly enough, this is not the first time we have seen <a href="https://www.holdoutsports.com/2023/04/celtics-hawks-game-4-delayed-by-stray-confetti.html">confetti interrupt a basketball game</a>. Last April, an NBA <a href="https://www.holdoutsports.com/2023/04/celtics-hawks-game-4-delayed-by-stray-confetti.html">playoff game between the Boston Celtics and Atlanta Hawks was stopped</a> when small pieces of confetti began floating around.
<p>
As luck would have it, VCU went on a 9-0 run after the play stoppage to cut the Duquesne lead to 38-32, leading CBS Sports to display a graphic detailing the team stats "since confetti fell"
<p>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">CBS had a "Since Confetti Fell" graphic showing a 9-0 VCU run in the A-10 Championship. 🏀📺😂 <a href="https://t.co/b6ecfeBdQE">https://t.co/b6ecfeBdQE</a> <a href="https://t.co/5YDalb3D0F">pic.twitter.com/5YDalb3D0F</a></p>— Awful Announcing (@awfulannouncing) <a href="https://twitter.com/awfulannouncing/status/1769439018809274750?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">March 17, 2024</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
<p>
Fortunately, a Duquesne timeout allowed them to regain their composure and take back the momentum in the game. They went on to<a href="https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/recap/_/gameId/401625555"> win the game 57-51</a> and earn an NCAA tournament bid for the first time since 1977. As it turns out, there was still some confetti left for the postgame celebration.
<p>

<p>
An MLS televsion announcer made the most of his call of an amazing save by dropping a hilarious reference to the infamous Kate Middleton Mother's Day photo during Saturday night's match between St. Louis City FC and the visiting LA Galaxy.
<p>
It happened in the 54th minute with the Galaxy holding a 2-1 lead. LA Galaxy forward <a href="https://www.espn.com/soccer/player/_/id/240110/dejan-joveljic">Dejan Joveljic</a> took a right footed shot in front of the net from point blank range, but St. Louis City FC goalkeeper <a href="https://www.espn.com/soccer/player/_/id/175906/roman-burki">Roman Burki</a> managed to swat it safely away with his left hand. The save inspired an excited call by St. Louis City play-by-play man Joey Zanaboni with an unlikely nod to current events.
<p>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Unlike the royal family, I’m always willing to offer proof <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/KateGate?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#KateGate</a> <a href="https://t.co/BMqWoMuk5S">https://t.co/BMqWoMuk5S</a> <a href="https://t.co/4NgSSBS4CX">pic.twitter.com/4NgSSBS4CX</a></p>— Joey Zanaboni (@joey_zana) <a href="https://twitter.com/joey_zana/status/1769331797391732787?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">March 17, 2024</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
<p>
<blockquote>"Oh! Roman Burki! Stones Jovovic! Panels one away! Oh, Roman Burki! Altering that shot like it’s a Kate Middleton mother’s day photo!"</blockquote>
<p>
Now that's just totally unexpected...and absolutely hilarious.
<p>
The match ended in a <a href="https://www.espn.com/soccer/match/_/gameId/692658/st-louis-city-sc-la-galaxy">3-3 draw</a>, the third draw of the season for both teams.

<p>
Chicago Fire FC midfielder Kellyn Acosta scored an incredible game-winner from midfield, with some help from the wind, during the final minutes of stoppage time in Saturday's MLS game against CF Montreal.
<p>
The Fire had scored the tying goal only minutes earlier in the 95th minute. In the 99th minute, Acosta took the pass from his goaltender at midfield and sent a prayer towards the CF Montreal net. Fortunately for Acosta, the wind carried the ball further than CF Montreal goalkeeper <a href="https://www.espn.com/soccer/player/_/id/303555/jonathan-sirois">Jonathan Sirois</a> was expecting. Sirois was caught flatfooted near the edge of the penalty box, and by the time he tried to recover, the ball was over his head, off his hands and into the net.
<p>

<p>
You certainly don't see that every day.
<p>
It was Chicago's first win of the season and Montreal's first loss of the season.

UAB junior guard <a href="https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/4592489/alejandro-vasquez">Alejandro Vasquez</a> was ejected for punching an opposing player during Friday night's AAC quarterfinal game against Wichita State.
<p>
It happened midway through the first half with UAB on offense as Wichita State held a 17-16 lead. As he dished an assist to Yaxel Lendeborg for an easy layup to give UAB the lead, Vasquez got rough with Wichita State forward <a href="https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/4897200/isaac-abidde">Isaac Abidde</a> while fighting for position for a potential rebound. Vasquez used an elbow to shove Abidde, then punched Abidde in the chest. Abidde pushed him back as they headed back up the court, causing the officials to blow the whistle.
<p>
<div class='vid-container'><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.espn.com/core/video/iframe/_/id/39740262/endcard/false" allowfullscreen frameborder="0"></iframe></div>
<p>
After officials reviewed the play, they gave Vasquez a flagrant-2, leading to his ejection. Vasquez failed to score a point in 5 minutes of game time. Meanwhile, Abidde was given a personal foul on the play, which was his only stat for the game as he only played two minutes.
<p>
In the end, UAB took care of business by <a href="https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/boxscore/_/gameId/401625467">beating Wichita State 72-60</a>, advancing to the AAC semifinal where they will take on the conference top seed South Florida. As for Vasquez, hopefully this will be a learning experience and he can manage his emotions better moving forward.

<p>
Mississippi Valley State men's basketball fans celebrated the team's first win of the season after Monday night's 57-51 victory over Prairie View A&M university.
<p>
Unlike recent <a href="https://www.holdoutsports.com/2024/02/kyle-filipowski-injured-wake-forest-fans-storming-court.html">court stormings with players getting injured</a> after fans collided with them, this one was much more subdued. It lasted less than 15 seconds as a few dozen fans ran out onto the court pumping their fists and jumping around, then walked off the court on their own. If you blinked, you missed it.
<p>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">We need Mississippi Valley State's announcers calling March Madness. <a href="https://t.co/EcBjuMOMgq">pic.twitter.com/EcBjuMOMgq</a></p>— College Sports Only (@CollegeSportsO) <a href="https://twitter.com/CollegeSportsO/status/1762443219911004274?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">February 27, 2024</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
<p>
However, the best part of the finish was the call by Mississippi Valley State television broadcast team. Credit to them for having so much positive enthusiasm and a sense of humor while covering a team that "improved to 1-27" and now has a "1-game winning streak."

Sunday's FIBA AmeriCup 2025 Qualifiers Group A matchup between Argentina and Chile was interrupted when a dog ran onto the court in Coliseo Antonio Azurmendi in Valdivia, Chile.
<p>
It happened with 5:43 remaining in the first quarter with Chile holding a 7-6 lead. Argentina had control of the ball on offense when play was stopped as the dog ran to the middle of the court with a ball of its own in its mouth.
<p>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Air Bud! <a href="https://t.co/XPN6R4kqDj">pic.twitter.com/XPN6R4kqDj</a></p>— RedditCFB (@RedditCFB) <a href="https://twitter.com/RedditCFB/status/1762195852913717557?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">February 26, 2024</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
<p>
We do not have video available to determine if the dog left the court on its own or was physically removed. However, between arena security and the dog's handlers, no one seemed to be able to control the dog as it found its way back to the court baseline before play could restart.
<p>
This isn't the first time we have seen a <a href="https://www.holdoutsports.com/2022/12/dog-runs-onto-court-interrupts-american-george-washington-basketball-game.html">basketball game interrupted by a dog</a>, which happened with <a href="https://www.holdoutsports.com/2022/12/dog-runs-onto-court-interrupts-american-george-washington-basketball-game.html">American vs. George Washington back in 2022</a>. We have seen crazier things than that as well, such as a <a href="https://www.holdoutsports.com/2023/03/dog-takes-dump-on-court-during-louisville-halftime-show.html">dog pooping on the court</a> during halftime of a Louisville basketball game last year. When you've been around as long as we have, you see some crazy things.
<p>
Eventually the game resumed, and Chile pulled off a 79-77 upset of Argentina. As a result, both teams are now 1-1 after "Window 1" of the qualifiers, tied with Venezuela and Colombia in the Group A standings. The second "window" of the group stage will be played in November 2024. In the meantime, maybe Valdivia's arena security teams can work out how to keep dogs off the court in the future.

<p>
Supermodel Cindy Crawford showed some impressive versatility during Sunday night's Chicago Blackhawks game as she scored a goal from center ice during the second period intermission.
<p>
Crawford grew up in the Chicago suburbs (she was actually valedictorian of her high school class in DeKalb, Illinois), so the Blackhawks are her hometown team. After her first shot went just wide left of the net and her second shot hit the right post, her third and final shot went right down the middle.
<p>
<div class='vid-container'><iframe width="100%" height="56.25%" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Ew0ntNo3_sY?si=i9QusMV81M8IET84" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe></div>
<p>
Not bad at all for anyone, let alone a supermodel. That's the most impressive shot we've seen since that <a href="https://www.holdoutsports.com/2024/01/indiana-st-student-hits-full-court-putt-basketball-game-wins-10k.html">Indiana State student won $10K</a> when he <a href="https://www.holdoutsports.com/2024/01/indiana-st-student-hits-full-court-putt-basketball-game-wins-10k.html">sank a full court golf putt</a>.
<p>
The Blackhawks fans certainly got their money's worth. Not only did Chris Chelios have his number retired before the game, but Patrick Kane made his return to Chicago for the first time since being traded away last year. In a cruel twist of fate, Kane scored the game-winning goal in overtime to give the <a href="https://www.espn.com/nhl/boxscore/_/gameId/401560147">Red Wings a 3-2 victory</a>.<p>

The infamous "Green Men" made their triumphant return to Vancouver for Saturday night's Canucks game against Boston.
<p>
It was the first time in eight years that the mysterious men in head-to-toe green body suits had attended a game at Rogers Arena, but they were welcomed back with open arms as the public address announcer proudly proclaimed their presence in the building.
</p><p>
</p><blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p dir="ltr" lang="en">THE INFAMOUS GREEN MEN ARE BACK <a href="https://t.co/P4i1pJG3lG">pic.twitter.com/P4i1pJG3lG</a></p>— Spittin' Chiclets (@spittinchiclets) <a href="https://twitter.com/spittinchiclets/status/1761561974641401887?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">February 25, 2024</a></blockquote> <script async="" charset="utf-8" src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js"></script>
<p>
The Green Men got right back to what they do best: taunting opposing players in the penalty box. When Bruins left winger <a href="https://www.espn.com/nhl/player/_/id/3822">James van Riemsdyk</a> was sent to the box for high sticking in the first period, the Green Men were muscle flexing and seductively dancing.
</p><p>
</p><blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p dir="ltr" lang="en">How are we feeling about the Green Men being back at Rogers Arena, Canucks fans? 📍🟢 <br /><br />(Via: Canucks) <a href="https://t.co/GKtHky6NmM">pic.twitter.com/GKtHky6NmM</a></p>— CanucksArmy (@CanucksArmy) <a href="https://twitter.com/CanucksArmy/status/1761561734228136439?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">February 25, 2024</a></blockquote> <script async="" charset="utf-8" src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js"></script>
<p>
In overtime, when the Bruins found themselves with too many men on the ice, the Green Men teased Bruins center <a href="https://www.espn.com/nhl/player/_/id/4024997">Trent Frederic</a> by tossing around Eggo waffles.
</p><p>
</p><blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p dir="ltr" lang="en">People need to understand that the return of the Green Men to Vancouver is a moment in history <a href="https://t.co/nezWwJY0YT">pic.twitter.com/nezWwJY0YT</a></p>— Jomboy Media (@JomboyMedia) <a href="https://twitter.com/JomboyMedia/status/1761589082994409784?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">February 25, 2024</a></blockquote> <script async="" charset="utf-8" src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js"></script>
The Canucks scored on that power play to <a href="https://www.espn.com/nhl/boxscore/_/gameId/401560138">beat the Bruins 3-2</a>, so it could be said that the Green Men brought the Canucks some good luck. That hopefully means the Green Men will be attending more Canucks games in the near future. We will be rooting for that, as they have provided us with so much <a href="https://www.holdoutsports.com/2015/02/green-men-entertain-gregory-campbell.html">incredible content</a> in the past, such as:<div><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>2015: <a href="https://www.holdoutsports.com/2015/02/green-men-entertain-gregory-campbell.html">Green Men entertain Gregory Campbell at Canucks game (GIF)</a> </li><li>2014: <a href="https://www.holdoutsports.com/2014/11/vancouver-green-men-vince-vaughn-cardboard-cutout.html">Vancouver's 'Green Men' Use Vince Vaughn Cardboard Cutout To Entertain Kris Versteeg (Video)</a></li><li>2011: <a href="https://www.holdoutsports.com/2011/12/vancouvers-green-men-are-back-taunting.html">Vancouver's Green Men Are Back, Taunting Predators' Shea Weber With Naked Ryan Kesler (Video)</a></li></ul>

<p>
Duke center Kyle Filipowski had to be helped to the locker room as Wake Forest fans collided with him while storming the court following their 83-79 upset of the sixth-ranked Blue Devils.
<p>
It happened as the clock reached zero as Duke failed to muster a last-ditch attempt to score before the clock ran out. Filipowski had no chance to avoid the Demon Deacon fans as they rushed to center court. From the video, it appears that multiple fans made contact with him as they ran by, with at least one of the collisions resulting in injury to Filipowski.
<p>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Wake Forest storms the court after knocking off #8 Duke<br><br>It appears Kyle Filipowski may have been hurt in the court storming…<br> <a href="https://t.co/i4vb6unTgf">pic.twitter.com/i4vb6unTgf</a></p>— Barstool Sports (@barstoolsports) <a href="https://twitter.com/barstoolsports/status/1761501351299748259?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">February 24, 2024</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
<p>
Filipowski had to be surrounded by teammates to protect him from further injury, and Duke staff led him the rest of the way to the locker room as he hobbled off the court.
<p>
We know opposing fans like to celebrate beating Duke, especially at home. One <a href="https://www.holdoutsports.com/2013/01/wheelchair-bound-nc-state-fan-storms.html">NC State fan stormed the court in a wheelchair</a> back in 2013 after a Duke upset. Unfortunately, court storming also puts people at risk for injury, especially players and coaches who can get trapped in the middle of it, as was the case with Duke players today.
<p>
No word yet as to the seriousness of Filipowski's injury and we hope he will be OK. However, if ever there was an argument to ban court storming by fans, this could easily become Exhibit A.
<p>
<b>UPDATE:</b> Here is an overhead angle of the fan colliding with Filipowski as he tried to protect himself.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Alternate angle of Duke’s Kyle Filipowski getting injured in today’s court storming. <p>
Early word from Duke head coach Jon Scheyer is that Filipowski has a sprained ankle.

<p>
South Korean pro golfer Tom Kim found himself scrambling to make his tee time for Sunday's final round of the Genesis Invitational.
<p>
Kim had a scheduled 11AM tee time with American Ricky Fowler. For whatever reason, Kim couldn't get there until the last minute, leading to the unusual sight of Kim running across the golf course to get to the first tee.
<p>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">"You almost here? We're about to tee off!"<br> <br>Me: <a href="https://t.co/gj2bcoo0Lj">pic.twitter.com/gj2bcoo0Lj</a></p>— PGA TOUR (@PGATOUR) <a href="https://twitter.com/PGATOUR/status/1759248655255474549?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">February 18, 2024</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Now there's something you don't see every day. We haven't seen anyone run that fast on a golf course since that <a href="https://www.holdoutsports.com/2023/06/adam-hadwin-tackled-by-security-nick-taylor-rbc-canadian-open-wi.html">security guard that tackled Adam Hadwin</a>.
<p>
All things considered, Kim seemed to manage the stress pretty well. He finished 2-under for the round and 5-under for the tournament to finish tied for 24th overall, good enough to take home a paycheck of $164,857. Not bad for a weekend's worth of work. Hopefully Kim can work on his time management moving forward.

<p>
UCLA Bruins freshman guard <a href="https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/4711270/sebastian-mack">Sebastian Mack</a> was ejected from Sunday's Pac-12 men's basketball game against Utah for a blatant cheap shot against an opposing player.
<p>
It happened midway through the first half after UCLA sank two free throws to increase their lead to 16-12. Utah guard Hunter Erickson was dribbling the ball up the court, with Mack looking to guard him. Utes center <a href="https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/4592435/branden-carlson">Branden Carlson</a> looked to set a pick on Mack near center court, and Mack sized up Carlson and elbowed him right in the neck, sending him to the floor.
<p>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">After review, it was ruled a flagrant 2 and Sebastian Mack will be ejected from the game after this play <a href="https://t.co/qul0x9eLji">pic.twitter.com/qul0x9eLji</a></p>— FOX College Hoops (@CBBonFOX) <a href="https://twitter.com/CBBonFOX/status/1759378541362188477?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">February 19, 2024</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
<p>
Play was stopped, and after an official review, Mack was given a flagrant 2, leading to an automatic ejection. A terrible move by Mack, especially considering he is the team's leading scorer. You can't lose your cool and act out in a way that hurts yourself and your team. Unfortunately, Mack will be learning this the hard way.

<p>
ESPN suffered an embarrasing moment during its broadcast of Saturday's Big 12 men's basketball game between the University of Central Florida Knights and the visiting Cincinnati Bearcats.
<p>
Pro Football Hall of Famer James attended the game in Orlando, Florida to see his son Edgerrin James Jr., a.k.a. <a href="ESPN%20mistakenly%20identifies%20random%20guy%20as%20Edgerrin%20James%20%28Video%29">Jizzle James</a>, as he returned to his hometown as a member of the visiting Bearcats. The televised ESPN broadcast knew he was at the game and made it a point to highlight that to the viewers at home. Unfortunately, the man they showed on camera that they identified as Edgerrin James was NOT Edgerrin James.
<p>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Going out on a limb and confirming this is not Edgerrin James😬<a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Bearcats?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#Bearcats</a> <a href="https://t.co/JPqL64FkAM">pic.twitter.com/JPqL64FkAM</a></p>— Russ Heltman (@russheltman11) <a href="https://twitter.com/russheltman11/status/1758966928658334175?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">February 17, 2024</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
<p>
Not sure what it was about this man that made ESPN think that it was James, but they were clearly wrong. The real Edgerrin James was sitting courtside.

We have certainly seen <a href="https://www.holdoutsports.com/2014/12/detroit-newspaper-reports-john-harbaugh-headed-to-michigan.html">media put the wrong face with a name</a> before, and this probably won't be the last time it happens. However, we hold ESPN to a higher standard, and there is no good excuse for this.
<p>
James Jr. came off the bench to score 7 points in 14 minutes of game action as <a href="https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/boxscore/_/gameId/401603481">Cincinnati beat UCF 76-74</a>.

<p>
A press conference with Stephen Curry and Sabrina Ionescu was hilariously interrupted by the sound of a toilet flush following their head-to-head 3-point shootout on Saturday night as part of the NBA All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis.
<p>
Curry edged out Ionescu 29-26 in a very exciting matchup of sharpshooters that will likely inspire more head-to-head contests between NBA and WNBA stars in the future. The two stars held a joint press conference with reporters after the contest and Curry was describing the electric atmosphere when the sound of a toilet flushing could be clearly heard in the background. Curry couldn't help but smile and acknowledge the amusing disturbance.
<p>

<blockquote>"...to have it with a new floor, and...40,000 fans out hear and...people using the bathroom..."</blockquote>
<p>
That's something we would expect to hear in the <a href="https://www.holdoutsports.com/2023/03/steve-ballmer-excited-about-toilets-clippers-new-arena.html">new Clippers home arena</a>, but not during a press conference. Seems like an unfortunate event, and probably not something the NBA planned on. We're sure the NBA will look into moving the press conference podium further away from the bathrooms in the future.

<p>
Atlanta Hawks superstar (and NBA All-Star) Trae Young won a $100 bet with a fan who challenged him to hit a shot from the stands of Lucas Oil Stadium prior to Saturday night's NBA 3-Point Contest.
<p>
It happened during a practice session prior to the NBA All-Star Saturday Night festivities. Young walked out of the locker room to a group of fans offering to give him money if he could hit a shot from where they were standing. Young was in a walkway several rows back and slightly above the court. We can safely estimate that Young was shooting from the side angle of the basket from over 50 feet away.
<p>
Young is one of the best shooters in the game, and he proved it by draining this shot.
<p>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">These fans bet Trae Young $100 he wouldn't hit this shot from the stands 😂<br><br>(via sportsmancave/TikTok) <a href="https://t.co/GjXIKQ5m5v">pic.twitter.com/GjXIKQ5m5v</a></p>— br_betting (@br_betting) <a href="https://twitter.com/br_betting/status/1758976578531262709?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">February 17, 2024</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
<p>
Here's another angle of that amazing shot, this time from behind the court baseline:
<p>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">TRAE YOUNG SINKS SHOT FROM THE STANDS 🤯🪣 <a href="https://t.co/OEAckXCaGs">pic.twitter.com/OEAckXCaGs</a></p>— Bleacher Report (@BleacherReport) <a href="https://twitter.com/BleacherReport/status/1758921235272958185?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">February 17, 2024</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
<p>
There's nothing like watching the pros <a href="https://www.holdoutsports.com/2014/10/casper-ware-buzzer-beater.html">sink a shot from a mile away</a>. And yes, Trae took the fan's money. A bet's a bet.
<p>
As far as the 3-Point Contest, Young advanced to the final round, but fell a few points short as Damian Lillard came up on top for the second year in a row.

The Philadelphia Flyers players arrived for Saturday's NHL Stadium Series game dressed as Rocky Balboa as they walked into MetLife Stadium to face the New Jersey Devils.
<p>
Taking inspiration from the iconic movie character that made his home in Philadelphia, all of the Flyers stepped off the team bus in wearing a black winter hat and grey sweats, a nod to Rocky's trademark workout gear.

<p>
The Flyers are continuing the tradition of <a href="https://www.holdoutsports.com/2013/07/brandon-weeden-honors-independence-day.html">athletes wearing interesting outfits</a> as they arrive for their games, and it's a good thing to see the players having fun once in a while. The Flyers are hoping to get back on the winning track after having a four-game winning streak snapped on Thursday with an overtime loss to Toronto.

Future Pro Football Hall of Famer end Rob Gronkowski missed a live 25-yard field goal attempt Sunday as part of FanDuel's Kick of Destiny 2 promotion.
<p>
It happened as part of a live 30-second commercial that aired prior to the opening kickoff of Super Bowl LVIII. Kay Adams set the scene as Gronk was lined up to kick the ball through the uprights on a miniature football field with a kicking tee holding the ball in position on the 15-yard line. Gronk, dressed in a blue FanDuel football uniform, was surrounded by hundreds of excited fans cheering him on. It was a chance for him to redeem himself after missing the first Kick of Destiny last year.
<p>
Unfortunately, Gronk was unable to complete his goal. He had plenty of leg, but the football sailed wide right. Gronk knew he had missed as soon as the ball was in the air.
<p>
<div class='vid-container'><iframe width="100%" height="56.25%" alt='FanDuel Kick of Destiny 2 featuring Rob Gronkowski' src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/bXrhgATNVbE?si=tCogYpcxI1rNfK1D" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe></div>
<p>
Gronk was clearly disappointed in himself, but he shouldn't take it too hard. He had an <a href="https://www.holdoutsports.com/2023/06/7-greatest-patriots-players-of-all-time.html">amazing career as a tight end</a>, and can <a href="https://www.holdoutsports.com/2015/04/rob-gronkowski-first-pitch-mike-trout-angels.html">throw a baseball pretty well</a>, but he was not kicker. However, we're sure he got a nice paycheck from FanDuel to make this experience worth his while.

Boston Bruins defenseman <a href="https://www.espn.com/nhl/player/_/id/3069448">Matt Grzelcyk</a> was ejected from Saturday's NHL game against Washington for spearing Capitals left winger <a href="https://www.espn.com/nhl/player/_/id/4005">Max Pacioretty</a> in the groin.
<p>
It happened with under two minutes remaining in the first period with the game scoreless. Pacioretty was trying to position himself in the center of the Bruins zone as the Caps set up on offense. As he watched the puck, Grzelcyk caught him off guard and used his stick to spear him right between the legs.
<p>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr"><a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/ALLCAPS?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#ALLCAPS</a> Pacioretty goes down. <p>
The officials did not call the spear initially, as they only stopped play when Pacioretty went down to the ice in pain. Pacioretti got to his feet, but was doubled over as he skated off the ice and headed to the locker room for the rest of the period.
<p>
After the officials held a discussion about the play, Grzelcyk was sent to the box with a spearing penalty, and then upon further review, he was sent to the locker room with a game misconduct.
<p>
We have seen NHL players getting away with <a href="https://www.holdoutsports.com/2023/05/brent-burns-spears-matthew-tkachuk-in-groin.html">spearing opponents in the groin</a> before. In this case, however, justice was served.
<p>
As for Pacioretty, he returned to the game for the start of the second period and got a measure of revenge with an assist to T.J. Oshie as the Capitals went on to <a href="https://www.espn.com/nhl/playbyplay/_/gameId/401560037">beat the Bruins 3-0</a>.

<p>
Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman <a href="https://www.espn.com/nhl/player/_/id/2976833">Morgan Reilly</a> will likely receive some disciplinary action from the NHL for cross-checking Ottawa Senators center <a href="https://www.espn.com/nhl/player/_/id/4697411">Ridly Greig</a> in the face during the final seconds of Saturday night's game at the Canadian Tire Centre.
<p>
With the Senators leading 4-3, the Maple Leafs pulled goaltender Martin Jones for an extra skater in a last-ditch attempt to tie the game in regulation. The Leafs won a faceoff in the Senators zone with 41 seconds left in the game and managed to take two shots, with one blocked by goaltender Joonas Korpisalo and one blocked by the skate of Greig. The Senators managed to clear the puck to the other end of the ice with under 10 seconds left. Greig chased the puck and scored on the empty net with a slap shot.
<p>
The slap shot was probably unnecessary, as that can be looked at as taunting. Reilly certainly took exception to it, and as Greig turned and looked for some teammates to celebrate with, Reilly went after Greig and cross-checked him in the face. Greig fell to the ice and a scrum broke out between various Leafs and Senators players.
<p>
<div class='vid-container'><iframe width="100%" height="56.25%" alt='Morgan Reilly cross-checks Ridley Greig, Maple Leafs vs. Senators, 2/11/2024' src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/QW1pqSHmMzY?si=a0o3Td4xPVA4q_fT" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe></div>
<p>
Reilly was given not only a cross-checking penalty, but a game misconduct. We would guess that he will also likely receive a multi-game suspension, as that was a dangerous play which was completely over the top.
<p>
<div style="height:0;padding-bottom:56.11%;position:relative;"><iframe width="360" height="202" style="position:absolute;top:0;left:0;width:100%;height:100%;" frameBorder="0" src="https://imgflip.com/embed/8fgcby"></iframe></div>
<p>
We understand why Reilly was angry, but this went too far and it costs your team. He needs to be smarter than that. Certainly you can get in his face and make your feelings known, but <a href="https://www.holdoutsports.com/2023/05/jamie-benn-game-misconduct-cross-check-mark-stone.html">cross-checking your opponent in the head</a> is completely unnecessary.
<p>
<b>UPDATE</b>: We have acquired video featuring another angle of the cross-check, and it looks even worse:

<p>
Detroit Red Wings defenseman <a href="https://www.espn.com/nhl/player/_/id/3151136">Jake Walman</a> celebrated with the Griddy dance after scoring a penalty shot in overtime to beat Vancouver 4-3 in Saturday's NHL game at the Little Caesars Arena.
<p>
In the opening moments of overtime, Walman had a one-on-one opportunity against Canucks goaltender Casey Desmith when he was cross-checked in the back by defenseman Quinn Hughes. Walman missed the shot after being knocked off-balance, but the official called for a penalty shot immediately, giving Walman a second chance.
<p>
It was the first penalty shot of Walman's NHL career. He made the most of it, and then he treated the home fans to the Griddy celebration.
<p>
<div class='vid-container'><iframe width="100%" height="56.25%" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/plI4dNp_9xI?si=K_CRV7b_R5uer9R3" alt='Jake Walman celebrates OT game winning penalty shot with Griddy, Canucks vs. Red Wings, 2/10/2024' title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe></div>
<p>
Not the most creative <a href="https://www.holdoutsports.com/2019/12/seahawks-david-moore-new-edition-td-dance.html">celebration dance</a> we have seen, but it is the first time we have seen the Griddy done on ice. It takes a pro to keep his balance while doing that.
<p>
Walman also had an assist in the third period to help lead the Red Wings to the win.

<p>
A group of Big Ten men's basketball officials have some explaining to do after failing to call an obvious traveling violation by Illinois senior forward Marcus Domask during Sunday's conference game against Nebraska.
<p>
It happened with just under three minutes remaining in regulation as Illinois held a 72-65 lead. Domask missed an offensive jumper, but grabbed his own offensive rebound underneath the basket. Finding himself double-covered, he pivoted to pass the ball to a teammate. However, in the process, he got away with taking at least six steps without a whistle.
<p>
Don't believe us? Just watch the video:
<p>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Literally 6 different pivot foot changes. <p>
We have seen plenty of <a href="https://www.holdoutsports.com/2018/02/shaqtin-fool-midseason-awards-worst-uncalled-travel.html">traveling violations that were not called by officials</a>, but they were almost always in NBA games. We have never seen traveling like this in college basketball. This instance was absolutely horrendous. No excuse for missing this. These officials need to be called out for missing this.
<p>
Domask finished with 19 points in 43 minutes of game action, including two free throws in the final 30 seconds of overtime, to help the Fighting Illini to an 87-84 victory over the Cornhuskers.

<p>
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts found himself in an embarrassing position in a failed attempt to catch a pass during Sunday's 2024 Pro Bowl flag football game.
<p>
It happened with about three and a half minutes remaining in the first quarter with the NFC holding a 19-15 lead in points over the AFC (with the score including results from earlier skils matchups between the two conferences). Hurts threw a lateral to Dallas Cowboys receiver CeeDee Lamb, who ran to the middle of the field and tossed a pass to Hurts, who called out for Lamb to throw it back to him as he was wide open along the sideline.
<p>
Unfortunately, the NFC's execution of the Philly Special was just a bit off. Lamb's throw was a bit high, although catchable for a normal wide receiver. However, there is a reason Hurts throws passes and doesn't catch them. He mistimed his jump and the ball bounced off his hands, and Hurts fell to the ground and couldn't help but laugh at himself.
<p>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Jalen Hurts was *THAT CLOSE* to catching the Philly Special 😅<br><br>📺 ABC, ESPN <a href="https://t.co/LLxfFlheUy">pic.twitter.com/LLxfFlheUy</a></p>— ESPN (@espn) <a href="https://twitter.com/espn/status/1754239347887395072?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">February 4, 2024</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
<p>
It's good to see Hurts laughing, which means he didn't hurt himself. The last thing any team wants to see is one of their players getting <a href="https://www.holdoutsports.com/2023/02/myles-garrett-suffers-dislocated-toe-at-pro-bowl-games.html">hurt during the Pro Bowl</a>.
<p>
With the new NFL Pro Bowl format, the winners of the Pro Bowl <a href="https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/news/nfl-pro-bowl-prize-money-how-much-do-nfl-players-make/0ea8530896762b2b3752c84d">take home $88,000</a>, but the losers take home $44,000, so there is not as much money at stake for the players. That allows them to have more fun during the games, and based on this play, Hurts is clearly enjoying himself.

Minnesota Timberwolves shooting guard <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/player/_/id/4594268/anthony-edwards">Anthony Edwards</a> threw down an incredible one-handed dunk during Wednesday night's NBA game against Detroit.
<p>
It happened with under five minutes remaining in the first quarter as the T-Wolves held a 27-26 lead. On their offensive possession, Edwards took the ball to the top of the three-point circle, then drove straight down the lane and exploded to the rim for a powerful dunk that brought his teammates to their feet. Edwards moved to the basket so fast that the Pistons defenders couldn't react in time to stop him.
<p>

<p>
Edwards has thrown down some <a href="https://www.holdoutsports.com/2021/12/anthony-edwards-monster-dunk-vs-nets.html">monster slam dunks</a> in his career, and this was a great one to add to his resume.
<p>
Edwards finished the game with 27 points (tied for the team lead in scoring with Karl-Anthony Towns) and dished 8 assists in 33 minutes as the T-Wolves beat the Pistons 124-117 to maintain the pace as the top seed in the Western Conference.

An Indiana State student hit a full-court putt to win $10,000 during Tuesday night's men's basketball game against Missouri State.
<p>
It happened during a timeout in the game with 7:45 remaining in the first half as ISU held a 29-18 lead. ISU senior Camden Harden shot a golf ball from one end line towards a small cutout hole behind the other end line 94 feet away. The putt was part of a "Putt for Dough" contest sponsored by EPIC Insurance. Harden made it look easy as the putt went straight through the hole, making him $10K richer.
<div class='vid-container'><iframe width="100%" height="56.25%" alt='Indiana State basketball fan hits full-court putt for 10K' src="https://www.espn.com/core/video/iframe/_/id/39324612/endcard/false" allowfullscreen frameborder="0"></iframe></div>
Now that's entertainment. We would argue that he should have gotten more money for that, as a <a href="https://www.holdoutsports.com/2019/02/lakers-fan-hits-half-court-shot-wins-100k.html">Lakers fan won $100K for hitting a half-court shot</a> back in 2019. However, that might stretch the Indiana State budget a bit.
<p>
We are sure that Harden went home happy after hitting that shot, but just for good measure, the Indiana State Sycamores beat Missouri State 88-66 to improve to 15-3 and remain at the top of the Missouri Valley Conference standings.

Atlanta Falcons head coach Arthur Smith made it clear he was not happy with New Orleans Saints coach Dennis Allen for a late touchdown by the Saints that ran up the score during a postgame conversation that followed Sunday's game in Mercedez-Benz stadium.
<p>
The Saints held a 41-17 lead with under two minutes remaining in the game and had the ball on the Falcons 1-yard line after an interception. The game was basically over at that point, and the Saints offense lined up in victory formation, implying they were going to wind down the clock. However, instead of taking a knee, which is the standard move in that situation, quarterback Jameis Winston handed the ball off to Jamaal Williams for a 1-yard touchdown run to give the Saints a 48-17 lead.
<p>
When the game ended, Smith approached Allen at midfield and had choice words for him. You could read his lips, and microphones caught some of Smith's words.
<p>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Arthur Smith and Dennis Allen have a postgame chat 😳 <a href="https://t.co/s469d2OcWq">pic.twitter.com/s469d2OcWq</a></p>— NFL on CBS 🏈 (@NFLonCBS) <a href="https://twitter.com/NFLonCBS/status/1744103230500422103?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">January 7, 2024</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
<p>
<blockquote>"Why the f*** did you do that? That's f***ing b***s***."</blockquote>
<p>
With the Falcons finishing up the season at 7-10, Smith is concerned about his job, as rumors have it that he <a href="https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/rumor-falcons-head-coach-arthur-smith-is-likely-fired/ar-AA1mBdF1">could be fired</a>. However, he was justified for being angry, as the Saints had the game well in hand, and it served no purpose for them to score at that point in the game, other than to make the Falcons look bad. As it turns out, Smith wasn't the only one on the Falcons sideline to <a href="https://www.holdoutsports.com/2024/01/mycole-pruitt-headbutt-carl-granderson-saints-falcons-video.html">lose his temper on Sunday</a>.
<p>
Allen seemed to understand Smith's point of view, as he began his postgame press conference with an apology to Smith. However, in an interesting twist, he revealed that the players decided themselves to score the touchdown:
<p>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Saints coach Dennis Allen: I’m gonna start by apologizing to Arthur Smith and the Falcons.<br><br>Said they should’ve taken a knee. But guys wanted to get Jamaal Williams a TD and that’s “unacceptable.”<br><br>“That’s not who we are, not what we’re about.”</p>— Mike Triplett (@MikeTriplett) <a href="https://twitter.com/MikeTriplett/status/1744106373749641558?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">January 7, 2024</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
<p>
This seemed to imply that quarterback Jameis Winston overruled his coach by scoring the touchdown. Winston confirmed this during a postgame interview, saying that he apologized to Allen but the players made a "team decision" on the field to give Williams an opportunity to score:
<p>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Jameis Winston explained how the Saints players made a "team decision" to score a touchdown at the end of the game, while leading 41-17. <br><br>(via <a href="https://twitter.com/garlandgillen?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@garlandgillen</a>)<a href="https://t.co/o33CsFwMY2">pic.twitter.com/o33CsFwMY2</a></p>— FOX Sports: NFL (@NFLonFOX) <a href="https://twitter.com/NFLonFOX/status/1744170505874403481?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">January 8, 2024</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
<p>
Winston certainly put Allen in an awkward situation. We'll see if this comes back to bite Winston at some point. As for Smith, it seems like he may want to have some words with Winston. Things could be awkward if Smith and Winston ever happen to cross paths in the future.
<p>
In the end, the Saints finished the season at 9-8 as they fell short of the playoffs.

<p>
Atlanta Falcons tight end <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/2508256/mycole-pruitt">MyCole Pruitt</a> was called for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty after delivering a headbutt to New Orleans Saints defensive end <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/3918310/carl-granderson">Carl Granderson</a> during Sunday's NFL season finale at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.\
<p>
It happened in the first quarter as the Falcons offense had drove the ball to the Saints 9-yard line with the game still scoreless. While Robinson was taken down after a 2-yard run, there was a little extra pushing and shoving between Pruitt and Granderson. Pruitt got angry very quickly and gave Granderson the headbutt in full view of everyone, resulting in the 15-yard penalty.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-media-max-width="560"><p lang="zxx" dir="ltr"><a href="https://t.co/QuYRwGg6BI">pic.twitter.com/QuYRwGg6BI</a></p>— Stephen Douglas (@Stephen_Douglas) <a href="https://twitter.com/Stephen_Douglas/status/1744062151973556622?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">January 7, 2024</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
No justification for Pruitt doing that, especially since trying to headbutt another player wearing a helmet is not going to hurt them. Pruitt needs to keep his head on that play.
<p>
The Falcons scored a touchdown two plays later on a Desmond Ridder touchdown pass to Jonnu Smith, so they were able to overcome the setback. However, as luck would have it, Pruitt had to leave the game in the third quarter with a calf injury. He finished the game with only one catch for 17 yards, and the Saints pulled away from the Falcons in the second half to come away with the <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/boxscore/_/gameId/401547649">48-17 victory</a>.
