Fan at Astros game gets stuck in seats after diving for foul ball (Video)

A Houston Astros fan went tumbling into a row of seats and disappeared while trying to grab a foul ball during Monday night's game at Minute Maid Park, and to make matters worse, the fan was nowhere near where the ball ended up.

It happened in the sixth inning as Chicago White Sox batter Alexei Ramirez hit the foul line drive into the stands near left field. The Astros fan dove to his right, but then got himself tangled up in the seats, eventually falling onto the floor. It took a long time for the Astros fan to get back up, but meanwhile, a woman two rows in front of him picked the ball up off the floor with minimal effort.

In the end, however, the sad display by the Astros fan paid off, as the woman who came away with the ball felt so sorry for him that she gave him the ball. The woman had no obligation to give her baseball to the fan, so she deserves a lot of credit for being charitable.

Ukranian soccer player headbutts teammate, gets red card (Video)

In Ukranian soccer action last week, Hoverla Uzhhorod's Volodymyr Lysenko was given a red card for delivering a headbutt to teammate Mirko Raicevic.

Raicevic appeared to say something to Lysenko and bumped his chest in the process, leading Lysenko to respond with the headbutt. It all happened right in front of the referee, who clearly had no choice but to send off Lysenko.

Given that Lysenko is on loan from Metalist Kharkiv, Hoverla Uzhhorod may want to give him back sooner rather than later.

Luke Donald hits US Open volunteer in the head with bad tee shot (Video)

Luke Donald accidentally hit a US Open volunteer in the head with a stray tee shot on the 3rd hole of Sunday's final round of the US Open golf tournament.

Donald's drive off the tee went way left of the green and hit the standard bearer for the group in front of him, which included Billy Horschel and Jason Day. Fortunately the volunteer appeared to be OK, and Donald apologized and gave her a signed golf glove.

Unfortunately, the bad shot was a sign of things to come for Donald, who went on to hit 6-over par on the front nine in his final round. However, Donald still finished tied for 8th overall and took home a check for $210,000, which isn't too shabby for four days of work.

Bench clearing brawl erupts between Dodgers and Cardinals minor leaguers (Video)

In triple-A minor league baseball action Saturday, an ugly bench clearing brawl erupted between the Albuquerque Isotopes (affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers) and Memphis RedBirds (affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals).

It happened in the bottom of the fourth inning when RedBirds pitcher Maikel Cleto hit Isotopes batter Justin Sellers up high right after giving up a home run to Jeremy Moore. Eight players were ejected from the game, along with managers on both teams, with suspensions likely to follow.

Tony Romo's pass hits Marcia Brady square in the nose (Video)

With the tendency of Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo to throw interceptions, it was inevitable that someone would mashup a video of one of Romo's INTs with Marcia Brady getting hit square in the nose with a football in that classic scene from "The Brady Bunch".

That moment has now arrived, and it is stupendous.

NCAA College World Series features misspelled dugout signs (Photo)

Someone in charge of making the signs above the dugouts for the NCAA College World Series in Omaha forgot to run a spellcheck before printing them out. That could have easily avoided the embarrassment of publicly displaying a sign featuring "college" spelled with three L's.

Wonder if it's the same person who misspelled 'baseball' for the Big 12 tournament sign last year. For all the money the NCAA spends, you would figure that money would be spent making sure these inexcusable mistakes would never happen.

Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Alex Cobb was hit in the head by a line drive and had to leave the game on a stretcher in the top of the fifth inning during Saturday's game at Tropicana Field.

Cobb was hit in the ear with the line drive off the bat of Kansas City Royals batter Eric Hosmer, and the game was delayed for 11 minutes while Cobb was tended to. Cobb reportedly has a concussion but is fortunate not to have been more seriously hurt. We wish Cobb a speedy recovery.

Pittsburgh Pirates center fielder Andrew McCutchen displayed some fancy feet as he danced back to second base, literally, after falling for a bluff of a pickoff move by Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Stephen Fife during the third inning of Friday night's game at PNC Park.

McCutchen had reason to be feeling a little relaxed, as he had just knocked in two runs with a double in what would turn out to be a 3-0 Pirates victory.

Groundhog interrupts Phil Mickelson on fairway at US Open (Video)

Phil Mickelson was briefly delayed before taking his second shot on the 6th hole in Friday's second round of the US Open tournament when a groundhog ran across the fairway.

Mickelson hit for par on the hole and finished second overall at the end of the round, so the interruption by the groundhog was not a big distractoin.

A fan at Merion Golf Course yelled "Mashed Potatoes!" after Phil Mickelson took his tee shot on the 9th hole during Friday's second round of the U.S. Open golf tournament.

It did not appear to be the same person who shouted it towards Tiger Woods back in 2011.

Chris Bosh draws foul on Tim Duncan with massive flop (Video)

Miami Heat center Chris Bosh drew a foul on San Antonio Spurs forward Tim Duncan with a massive flop during the second quarter of Thursday night's Game 4 of the NBA Finals at the AT&T Center.

Duncan was setting a pick to allow teammate Gary Neal to drive to the basket when the embellishment by Bosh drew the attention of the referees who called Duncan for the foul. If the NBA doesn't fine Bosh for this, something is wrong with the rules.

Umpire accidentally rings up A's batter after strike two (Video)

In another inexcusable case of a major league umpire losing count of balls and strikes behind home plate, CB Bucknor accidentally rang up Oakland A's batter Seth Smith on strike two during extra innings of Thursday's marathon game at the O.co Coliseum.

It happened in the bottom of the 11th as Bucknor made the emphatic "strike three" call on the 2-1 pitch to Smith. Fortunately, Bucknor quickly realized his own mistake, to his credit, and corrected it immediately. Bucknor was able to laugh at himself, but given the increasing frequency of MLB umpires losing count of balls and strikes, it's a disturbing trend that's not very funny at all.

Golfer Rory Sabbatini tore his golf glove apart after a bad shot on the 7th hole in Thursday's first round of the U.S. Open golf tournament.

Sabbatini made par on the hole, but had a terrible round overall as he finished near the bottom of the leaderboard at 7-over par. We can't imagine what Sabbatini destroyed after the round was over.

Eric Hosmer doused with BBQ sauce after walk-off win.

Kansas City Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th inning to close out a 3-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday. The Royals introduced a new twist in the victory celebration when they mobbed Hosmer out on the field by dousing him not with water or Gatorade, but with barbecue sauce.

Interestingly enough, the BBQ sauce looked so much like blood that the Royals television broadcasters thought someone had opened up a cut on Hosmer's head. Fortunately that wasn't the case.

Jimmy Kimmel's 'Lie Witness News' exposes fake Miami Heat fans (Video)

Late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel has been airing a series of special NBA-themed episodes airing before each NBA Finals game on ABC. Tuesday night's episode, which aired before Game 3, included a sketch in which Kimmel sent his undercover "Lie Witness News" out and about in Miami to expose fake Miami Heat fans.

It was pretty easy to pick out the pretenders based on their comments about players that don't exist, like Moo Shoo Pork and Lando Calrissian, or anatomically incorrect injuries, such as LeBron's bruised vulva.

Tiago Splitter waves politely for the ball (GIF)

San Antonio Spurs center Tiago Splitter was seen waving politely to get the attention of teammate Gary Neal during Game 3 of the NBA Finals Monday night.

Neal didn't give him the ball, probably because he had the hot hand as he scored 24 points in 25 minutes in the Spurs' 113-77 blowout victory over the Miami Heat. Or, maybe Neal didn't want to see Splitter get stuffed by LeBron again.

Need more evidence that major league baseball umpires are completely horrendous this season? Thanks to a crew of incompetent umpires in L.A. who weren't able to track of the count, Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Ian Kennedy needed four strikes to record a strikeout on Los Angeles Dodgers batter Yasiel Puig during the fourth inning of Tuesday night's game.

To recap: Puig fouled the first pitch, then swung and missed on the second pitch to go down 0-2. The third pitch was in the dirt and nearly got away from Montero, making the count 1-2. Or at least, it should have been, but home plate umpire Clint Fagan had a different count than everybody else.

Fagan apparently felt that the first pitch was not fouled off Puig's bat, but rather bounced off catcher Miguel Montero's mitt, meaning the first pitch was a ball in his mind and the count was 2-1. D-backs catcher Miguel Montero and manager Kirk Gibson came to argue their case, leading Fagan to consult with the rest of the umpires for assistance. In the end, however, the rest of the crew backed Fagan, so the D-backs argument was to no avail.

Here's the thing: The Dodgers had a runner on first base at the time. If Puig didn't foul the first pitch, that would mean the ball must have bounced off Montero's mitt, but wouldn't Montero have to run after it to track it down? And wouldn't the Dodgers runner have tried to advance? It's painfully obvious that Fagan got this one wrong, and was somehow able to convince the other umpires to back him up.

Despite the adjustment in the count due to the umpire error, the scoreboard count still read 1-2. After Puig swung and missed for what should have been strike three, the scoreboard was brought in line with the umpire's count to read 2-2. Puig then swung and missed one last time to finally end the at-bat with a strikeout, on what technically was STRIKE FOUR.

There's nothing worse than a home plate umpire who can't keep track of the count. Apparently the new rule is four strikes and you're out. What's next: five balls for a walk? Might as well throw away the rulebook. MLB needs to do something, because this is a complete embarrassment.

Argentina midfielder Javier Mascherano received a straight red card late in Tuesday's World Cup qualifier against Ecuador for kicking the driver of the medical cart which was carrying the stretcher he was laying on.

Mascherano was laying on a strecther which was being carried off the pitch on a medical cart in the 87th minute of the match (which ended in a 1-1 draw) when he kicked the driver of the cart twice. The referee gave Mascherano a red card as he got off the cart, and Mascherano's teammates had to hold him back as he argued his case, while any evidence of his alleged injury seemed to completely disappear.

Mascherano explained himself later, according to ESPN:

Reflecting on the incident, Mascherano said: "I feel ashamed. You must always be against violence. The truth is I made a mistake. It is not nice that you get sent off in such a way, and generate such a controversy."

Asked why he reacted as he did, Mascherano said: "The cart was going too quickly, I was moving around and thought I might fall. We told the medic to go slower, he ignored me and I reacted. But, I repeat, it was not justified."

Maybe some anger management classes would do Mascherano some good.

Padres fan dives into bushes for Jason Heyward HR ball

A San Diego Padres fan made a hilarious attempt to chase down a home run ball hit by Atlanta Braves batter Jason Heyward by diving into some bushes during Monday night's game at Petco Park.

It happened in the top of the eighth inning as Heyward hit the HR to right field and the ball found its way into an alleyway between the bleachers and right field stands. The overzealous Padres fan took a flying leap over a railing into some bushes near the end of the alleyway, but didn't realize that the ball was still bouncing around on some steps in front of the bushes. That allowed another fan to come away with the ball and left the fan in the bushes feeling disappointed, and probably a bit silly.

Fortunately, the Padres won the game 7-6, so hopefully that helped the fan cope with the missed opportunity.

LeBron James denies Tiago Splitter with block for the ages (Video)

Miami Heat superstar LeBron James denied a monster dunk attempt by San Antonio Spurs center Tiago Splitter with a monster block in the fourth quarter of Game 2 of the NBA Finals that may be one of the best blocks you will ever see.

Splitter came down the lane and wound up to throw down a one-handed dunk when LeBron went up with one hand and stopped the ball in its tracks.

The block by LeBron added the exclamation point to a huge run by the Heat that turned a close game into a blowout in the fourth quarter, as the Heat defeated the Spurs 104-83 to tie the series at 1-1.
