The Diana medium format camera is a blast-from-the-past classic that has recently been resurrected by Lomography into a must-have toy camera as the Lomography Diana +. It is made of plastic and was orignially produced in the 1960s in Hong Kong by the Great Wall Plastic Factory as a dirt cheap low cost camera. Love!
I love this camera. However, I do want to point out that aside from color it is exactly the same as Lomography's regular Diana camera. I spent hours looking at reviews for both and in the end I choose this particular model because I thought it had features that the black and teal original did not, and it turns out this was not the case!
The only problem is that the silver ring around the lens came off after about the second day. I super glued it back on and I haven't had a problem since.

Good quality workmanship (unlike some others). Center lens not easily removed. Picture quality very acceptable. Can interchange FD lenses to hearts content without worrying about dust getting into the digital SLR sensor.

Major sharpness loss is noticeable, and the small size of the correction lens causes vignetting on my 5D.

When the correction lens is removed for use as an FD-EF extension tube the vignetting remains (and is of course worse at small apertures). If you plan to use your FD lenses as macro lenses I'd avoid this adapter and look for one that is just a tunnel.

It's also a real pain to manually stop down this adapter in between focusing and shooting. It's quite a bit more trouble than I'd thought it would be because I have to shift my hand position to reach the "lock/unlock" ring right next to the body. That tends to disturb my composition. I tend to resort to turning the aperture ring on the lens as that disturbs my hand positions less, but this requires me to be careful about how many f-stops I turn on each shot.

i just tested the adapter today , with a 28-70 Summatech 1:2.8 ~ 4.2 and the pictures came out pretty good , HD video's nice also ... the adapter looks like it can handle the heavy-er lens , but i would not put all my money on that ... i will still support the lens wile shooting . and given that i spent about 13 $ on the lens at a thrift store , i think this adapter is really worth the price. Another detail , make sure you lock the lens all the way ... wait for the click.

Camera manufacturers seem to have forgotten the usefulness of the viewfinder these days, even on quite pricey models. Perhaps they live in lands where there is permanent shade, unlike the rest of us, who have to experience on-screen blindness due to glare. One solution would be a big black hood that we could throw over our head, like Victorian portrait photographers, but for those that might find that procedure ostentatious or impractical, another option is this nifty pop up shade.
I leave mine permanently attached to the camera, folded flat, as it is quite slim, though the cover can be removed without affecting the adhesive base of the device. I'm on my second as I sat on the first. The hinged part broke, but it had protected the camera itself from damage, so it was a small price to pay.

It can be permanently removed without leaving a trace, which is reassuring. It is a tenth of the price of an add-on viewfinder and often makes a dramatic improvement, though in strong light one can still feel the need for a hood. Overall, though, it is well worth the small investment.

This was a highly functional addition to my Sigma DP1. I had a little trouble removing the plastic film that was on the window but otherwise it worked great.

I've upgraded to a DP2s and the same Delkin shade works just fine on it, too. I've already had the experience of the shade protecting the screen from a sharp object and am very glad I bought it.

Okay, so basically for a year I was looking at toy cameras. At first I wanted a lomographic pink Diana clone. I talked to a friend of mind, who is a big photographer, and I asked him about lomography and holga. He had a holga 120N (without flash). I tried his Holga with a few rolls of film. The pictures were interesting. I was hooked. So I begged my dad to buy me a 120CFN. My dad is not set on toy cameras and film photogaphy. I bought a 120CFN in gold on eBay (came with extras like filters, filter holder, frame/masks). It was well worth it. The color rolls I have done are amazing with flash, especially color flash. Color flash is just plain fun. The pictures are hard to match with a digital camera and photshop. Do buy a Holga and try it out. The first two rolls may not be pretty, but it's fun to take photos with this camera.

The world of photography has changed so dramatically over the last 6-7 years that its honestly hard to put it into words. For the average person digital photography is a welcome advance in technology. No longer having to buy film, being able to see the end picture immediately, being able to make prints on your home computer, being able to shoot with your cell phone, etc.. There are really a hundred and one reasons why most people love digital photography.

There is another side to this coin however as there are those out there that do not like digital or what it has done to the entire field of photography over the last 5-10 years. I am one of those people. I absolutely love photography. Its not only my single favorite hobby, its also how I make my living. Its the entire process that I fell in love with, not just the end result. The loading of the film, the limited number of pictures per roll of film, the printing in a darkroom and most importantly the seemingly limitless creative aspects of film itself. There are so many things that you can do to alter the look of the film or print and I am sorry but running your picture through a filter in photoshop doesn't even begin to compare. The end result may appear similar but the process that got you there couldn't possibly be more different. I love the processes just as much as I do the end result and digital just doesn't even begin to compare.

Anyways this is where camera's like the Holga and Diana come in. These are camera's for people who are in love with film and the different looks that film can give you. These are sometimes referred to as toy cameras however that does not take anything away from these cameras or their ability to take pictures. I have been using a Holga for over 10 years and I can tell you first hand that if you take the time to master these cameras, you can take absolutely stunning pictures. You don't need 20 MegaPixels and a Carl Zeiss lens to shoot amazing pictures. In fact you dont even need a lens if your shooting with a pinhole camera.

Its nice to see that there are still people out there shooting with these kinds of cameras. There are even some that have given up shooting digital and come back to film. My hats off to those people because film is still where its at with photography. As for myself, I still shoot film 99% of the time and My Holga and Diana go pretty much everywhere I go. At around 40.00, you don't have much to lose in regards to trying them out.

Photography is fun again!
I got so burned out on mindless digital photography, I sold my digital Fuji to an old man named Henry and bought myself this Holga and a huge batch of expired 120 and 35mm film.

There aren't many cameras that can take such a beating and still survive. I have dropped this several times, my toddler daughter has gotten hold of it, and it still looks and performs as it did the day I bought it.

Helpful hints: get yourself some tape, because the metal clips that hold the back of the camera on slide all the time. And you DON'T want to lose your precious images simply because you didn't secure the camera!

The camera will probably come with a 6x6 mask already inserted, and the 6x4.5 mask wrapped in plastic. I believe the older Holgas never had an actual 6x6 mask, only the 6x4.5 (that meant you had to tape up the inside so the edges wouldn't scratch your film). The other great thing about this 6x6 mask is that it holds your AA batteries in so you don't have to tape them up. It does reduce the risk of light leaks, so if you are going for that, it might not happen in-camera (but I got leaks while unloading the film, so there's always a way!).

I suggest investing in the cable release that will allow you to comfortably do long exposures shots without holding your breath and praying. Of course, get yourself a tripod, because this model has a mount already - no need to mod it!

Also, tape up the little switch on the bottom, the one that enables the "Bulb" feature. I have had entire rolls ruined because I was shooting in the daytime and had inadvertently slid the button over to "B."

Most importantly - have fun with this camera. It takes a few rolls to really get to where you feel comfortable, so if your first roll or two makes you want to cry, we have ALL been there before.
Consistently cool
This is truly my favorite camera in the world. I have a great digital ultra-zoom and really wanted a digital SLR but couldn't afford it. A friend suggested the Holga--a step in the absolute opposite direction--and boy am I glad I got it. I was so BORED with Photoshop and digitalization. I really wanted to create pictures, not spend mindless hours in front of the computer. Holga gives me just that. It's quirkiness is what makes it so wonderful, from the light leaks to the vignetting. You truly never know what your film is going to look like, but it's almost always interesting. Black and white film is incredible in it! I suggest the filter set that comes with red, green, yellow and blue filters. I have gotten some truly wonderful results using the red filter with black and white film--so contrasty it's sick! The Holga has renewed and revived my interest in photography. Since I couldn't make my pictures perfect I figured I'd embrace the imperfections. Thanks Holga!
Will change the way you take pictures
God I love this camera. It's ugly, cheaply made, and completely unpredictable, but for an amateur like me, just realizing the joys of photography, it was exactly what I needed. Like other reviewers here, I too had gotten a bit bored with my mid-range digital camera, and invested the low, low fee of ~$60 in this little creature. I had read it could be frustrating and disappointing, but I have experienced neither emotion since becoming its owner. I have almost entirely stopped using my digital, and a 35mm SLR that is also a great camera... this one is just so much more fun.

The only drawback is the price and inconvenience of film/development. Try to buy in bulk, and get film developed only - not printed. It'll only cost about $2-3 a roll, and you can then scan the negatives (another investment, but if you see film in your future...) or print them yourself. But honestly, it's worth it. I'm so excited every time I get a roll back from the developers I can hardly wait, and I'm seldom disappointed. If you can appreciate the strange, beautiful way the Holga views the world, and not expect it to produce high fidelity images, you can't go wrong.

I bought this camera in 2006 and it worked great ONCE. The next time I tried to use it the camera continuously tried to rewind the film. I thought it was a fluke and since I was underwater couldn't really work on it.
This summer, I bought new batteries and paid extra careful attention to the way I loaded the film. Same problem! Here I am on a great trip to Cozumel with no lousy underwater camera to capture the memories

"Broken and No Repair Service" 2009-05-14

I bought one of these about 1 year ago. I shot one roll of film to make sure it worked okay (which it did). However; this year when I wanted to use it for a trip to Mexico, the motor kept wanting to rewind the film even though I put fresh film in and had threaded the leader properly. When the motor finally stopped this nonsense, I took what I thought were pictures, as it sounded like the film was advancing and everything was working fine. When I got home and had the film developed, nothing had come out...two rolls down the drain. I sent the camera to Sea and Sea in California, and they told me that due to the economy, there was no one in the area that worked on these cameras anymore!! What a waste of money. So now I'm sitting with a camera that looks brand new and doesn't work. Even if you get one that works, think ahead to who will service it further down the line, if it need it!

I would like to add that though Adorama Camera (from whom I bought it) couldn't believe it either that a manufacturer stopped fixing a product they make, there was nothing they could do anyway, since it was out of warranty BY ONE LOUSY MONTH. Yet Adorama still sells this Sea & Sea product. No more dealing with this merchant for me, and no more Sea & Sea products...svae yourself some grief and buy a different product from a different manufacturer, and deal with a different retailer...I just paid $150+ for a camera that only shot one roll of film! Since the economy is bad, shop around and look for people that you treat you decently!!
