I'm terribly sorry about the silence once again. I'll however make it up to you since I've been burning film during the time, just have to take the trouble to get it developed.

This photo is one of my personal favourites from recent times. I cant remember whether I shot it from a boat or while swimming (I've done that once).

I've also been reading. If you're really looking for some inspiration I can highly recommend the book Devoted by Dick Hoyt with Don Yaeger. If you're busing surfing the digital waves, spend 4 minutes and 4 seconds of your life to watch this video. It is one of the most powerful stories I've ever heard.

Probably the most abstract piece I've ever created.

More than an actual photograph, this might be better called chemigraph. It's a combination of partially exposed film and twisted effects produced in the development phase.

Do Androids Dream Of Analog Sheeps?

Paying homage to a book that a great movie is based on. I hope one day I get to read it.

I've done some upgrades to my my laptop (SSD namely) and have now installed all the old software. I have a free weekend and I spend it on scanning film.

I've scnanned numerous rolls taken with Holga and some rolls taken with Lomo LC-A (the old school version I got from a Hungarian comrade).

Scanning film is a relaxing thing to do. Mostly because of its slow pace. You take your time. Every time I scan new material I remember why I love film. No amount of digital effects make a picture taken with your fancy smartphone like one shot on film. The unpredictability of low end cameras is amazing, I never tire of it.

Now I'll face back into the digital landscape. See you guys soon.

A new look

Holga Blog has looked pretty much the same since the beginning in 2007. World has not stood still during that period of time. Today we see wonderful dynamic designs that take advantage of HTML5 or Flash.

I decided it is a high time for Holga blog to follow it's time. Just because Holga is old school, it doesn't mean that the design should look like it's from 1995. Feel free to share your thoughts.

I've grown more an more fond of abstraction and texture. The hideous exposure and artifacts from processing result in a combination that equals more than it's factors. Do you remember what we learned in the elementary school: -(-1) = 1, so combine enough negative stuff and you actually add to the value.

Happy holidays, Holga Blog will keep putting up new material once a week for some time now.

It's been a while and I am returning with another photo shot with Diana. Since the last update my priorities have been elsewhere but the crushing success of Instagram, a program which I dislike because it has caused an inflation of real analog photography with cheap digital effects (although the analog counterpart isn't expensive either).

Holga will get out and burn some more film.

My hard drive broke down this week and I lost all the scans I had. It's going to take some time to re-scan them so I had to be creative. I've played with the idea of having a Diana special and turns out this is the perfect time to have it. I hope you don't come down to burn my house for this blasphemy.

First of all I want to say I'm sorry for last Sunday. It was an especially rushed day filled with Swenglish and accounting.

Now that I got the apology out of the way I'm happy to announce that Holga Blog has broken through 50 subscribers. In addition to that there are 21 people who have subscribed by other means. Combined it means 79 people are routinely watching the things this blog pushes into the ether.

An additional fact is that this blog has seen visitors from 96 countries and all the continents.

Revisiting an old theme. This time with less fog.

This photo also acts as a demonstration of bad development chemistry. The artifacts in the upper part cover the length of the whole film. Good thing I'm shooting with a Holga and not with a Hasselblad. Little flaws only add to the atmosphere.

Let's hope there will be no nuclear winter in Japan. If I had a tendency to spread rumors of the end of the world, I would do it now. Egypt, Libya, Japan, Ireland, Greece. All kinds of instability. I just purchased Fallout 1 & 2 & tactics from Steam so I'll be ready for the post-apocalyptic life. And my refrigerator is quite full too.

Seriously then: all the best for everyone, especially for my Asian readers who have been affected by the terrible disaster.
