Traveling doesn’t always have to mean a long journey across the globe. Many pleasurable places to visit are practically in your back yard or just a day’s drive away. This article can help you to plan trips that are both fun and affordable. Traveling is about meeting new people and wherever you go, there are always new faces.

To support travel that is free of animal cruelty, do not buy souvenirs that are made of animal parts. Curios made of sea creatures, the shells, teeth, skin or fur of animals are exploitative. If you oppose animal cruelty on principle, you should refuse to support the killing of animals for the tourist industry.

If you are planning on a really remote and exotic trip of a lifetime, consider purchasing an insurance that will cover emergency evacuation, rescuing and search. The farther from civilization you plan to be, the more grateful you will be to have this type of insurance.

If you’re staying in a hotel, especially in a less developed country, and you’re worried about someone possibly coming into your room in the night, bring a doorstop with you. These handy little wooden or rubber wedges are usually used to hold doors open but they can just as easily be used to hold doors closed.

Get some cash from an ATM rather than a booth at an airport. Your bank will be able to get a much better exchange rate than what is offered at the airport. Become familiar with the foreign currency and learn to recognize what is overpriced. This should save you a lot of money.

If you are traveling by plane, look for the opportunity to trade books at the airport bookstore. Many are beginning to allow travelers the opportunity to leave one of their old books and pick up a new one. This service is usually free and gives you something new to read on your flight.

Make all your travel arrangements yourself, without the assistance of company employees. Book your flights online because many airlines will charge an extra fee when you talk with one of their workers to secure your travel plans. Check your bags online because doing it at the airport could also subject you to extra fees. Be as self-sufficient as possible to save money.

To reduce the impact of a possible theft while on vacation, bring only those financial items you really need. For example, you can safely leave all local store cards and your checkbook at home. Bring only a single credit card or preferably travel checks in your own name. This limits the number of cancellations you have to make should your purse or wallet get lost or stolen.

When taking a road trip, naturally you’re going to pass things that look interesting that someone in the car may one to stop and see. But you can’t always stop at every interesting spot or your trip would never end. Instead, give each member a “Stop Card.” This way if something comes up that they want to stop and see, they can use their card, and the entire family can stop, no questions asked. You can decide how many each person gets, depending on how much time you have.

Make sure you not only tag your luggage properly, but also put your name and phone number on both the outside and the inside. Luggage problems are prominent, and this is an easy way to prevent any further issues upon luggage loss. Doing this ensures that your luggage will end up in the right spot, at least eventually.

As noted in the beginning of the article, travel doesn’t have to mean a long, extended tour of the continents. It can simply mean a day trip to a different town or a camping trip up in the mountains. This article can help you prepare for your trip, no matter how big or small.

Are you planning a trip and not sure what you should be thinking about? There are a lot of things to remember when planning a trip to make sure that nothing will go wrong! Read on for some ideas on what you need to remember to have a safe trip.

If you have a large dog that needs to take a flight, be sure to write on the dog’s crate the name of the pet and your name and phone number with paint or permanent marker. Also, write where the destination the animal is flying to and the present date. Add stickers that call attention to the crate, so airline personnel will notice the pet carrier more.

When taking photos on a trip, upload them each day if you have access to a computer or brought a laptop with you. This way, even if something should happen to your camera, you will still have the pictures from your trip online and easy to access from any computer.

When you are leaving on a trip be sure to use timers on your lights so that your home looks occupied while you are gone. You do not want a wonderful trip spoiled by a break in and theft at your home. Light timers are inexpensive and easy to install.

A great traveling tip that everyone should consider is to protect yourself with travel instance for medical expense and medical evacuation. You never know what might happen while on a trip and accidents happen all the time. Make sure you take the necessary precautions by getting the adequate insurance coverage.

While you were traveling, have you worried about having a safe place to hide your emergency cash? Well a wonderful tip for women to hide their cash is by sewing in a little pocket inside of their bras. It takes little sewing knowledge to get a small piece of cloth, needle and thread and sew the pocket inside. You will feel better that it is there just in case you lose your wallet or purse.

When packing your bags before a trip, avoid putting all of your money, cards, and traveler’s checks in the same place. Spreading them out makes it less likely that you will lose everything in the event that you are robbed. The same goes for other valuables that you are bringing along, such as jewelry.

When traveling with a large dog on a plane, make certain that you don’t leave anything in the crate that your dog can rip to shreds, or chew on that might make him choke. A hollow white bone or a Kong stuffed with peanut butter may help the animal remain calm throughout the flight.

While you may know not to bring valuable jewelry on your trip, you should also avoid wearing costume jewelry or anything flashy that could potentially mark you as a target for robbery. Large rhinestones or faux diamond jewelry is difficult to tell from the real thing, especially at night or from a distance and may attract unwanted attention.

If you are traveling for a long length of stay and in many different locations, consider buying cheap underwear in bulk. Once you wear the underwear, all you have to do is throw them away instead of repacking the dirty ones or worrying about washing and drying them. It is a wonderful way to lessen your luggage as you travel, as well.

As you can see, there are so many things to think about when planning your trip to make sure it’s as safe and enjoyable as possible. If you’re planning a trip, make sure to go over this list carefully and check off each idea to make sure your trip will be the best it can be.

When it comes time for you to start planning a trip, you may wonder where to start. There are many things to consider before you actually go on the trip. The tips in this article can provide you with what you need to know to properly plan for your next traveling experience.

Cruise

Before booking your cruise vacation, get a map of the ship you will be sailing on to help select a specific cabin location. Look for clues on the map for areas that might pose a problem. Cabins near ice and vending machines, elevators and laundry rooms tend to be gathering places for passengers and are often congested and noisy.

A power strip and extension cord are must-haves to tuck into a suitcase for any traveler. Most hotels and motels as well as cruise ship cabins only have an outlet or two available and many times those outlets are not conveniently located to spend any time with a curling iron or offer enough room for camera and cell phone chargers.

If your travel plans include photo opportunities through train, plane, cruise ship or hotel windows, pack a handful of moistened, single-packaged glass cleaning wipes in your camera bag. Don’t miss out on some great photos or come home with a memory card full of blurry prints because of smudged, fingerprinted or dirty windows.

When you are going on a cruise, consider taking a power strip along with you. Typically most cabins on cruise ships have only one or two outlets, and by bringing a power strip, you will be able to run more of your appliances for an easier and more convenient stay aboard the ship.

If you are someone who suffers from seasickness, but dying to go on a cruise, book a cabin on the lowest level of the ship possible. In rough seas, the cabins towards the top of the ship experience the most amount of motion while those below the water-line tend to remain more stable.

To help you prepare for a cruise you should know what you are allowed and not allowed to bring on board. If you bring an item on board that is not allowed you could be asked to get off the ship. Check with your cruise ship operator before boarding if you are unsure what you are allowed to bring on board.

As you have seen, traveling plans, while various, share many fundamentals. They just vary in terms of location, costs, activities, and more. All it takes to decide what will work for you is some research, browsing, and asking around to get the best deals so that you can focus on the excitement of the trip.

For many people, traveling is one of life’s greatest joys. While traveling to a new destination is fun for almost everybody, the headache and stress of making travel plans are felt by many people. This article contains a number of tips on how you can make travel plans easier and faster.

When traveling in a foreign country, familiarize yourself ahead of time with the laws of that country and how they may differ from your own. Things that are legal or are minor offenses could well be major ones when you cross international boundaries. If arrested on foreign soil, always exercise your right to contact the embassy or consular who represents you in that country.

Slippers are a great option that you can bring with you on your next lengthy flight. These will not only provide you with the cushioning that you desire, but will also allow for flexibility with your toes. Keeping your feet comfortable on the flight is very important to reduce your fatigue.

When traveling by plane, consider taking along an electronic reading device. Using an electronic reader, rather than paper books, means you can pack more reading material in a smaller space. It also means new books will be instantly available to you if you finish the one you have.

If you are opposed to animal cruelty, do not suspend your convictions when you travel. Practices such as animal sacrifice, the running of the bulls, and the fighting of various types of animals may be presented as culturally ingrained and inescapable; however, by refusing to participate or pay for these activities, you are voting with your wallet. This will have an impact on the tourist industry of the country you are visiting.

Prepare for any communication needs you may have on your trip. Purchase any connectivity devices you will require for mobile computing and take the time to call your cell phone provider and evaluate potential costs associated with traveling and adjust your plan temporarily to accommodate the trip. Save yourself the shock of a large bill by planning properly.

Talk to your doctor about going abroad. They will be able to tell you what to look out for, and what kind of vaccinations you might need to have before you leave, as well as what follow up treatment you might need on your return. If you have to take medication, find out about restrictions regarding traveling with medicine.

A small calculator that can be tucked into your wallet or pocket can be essential when traveling abroad. Use it to help figure currency conversions and know what that trinket will cost before blindly shelling out unfamiliar foreign currency or coins and hoping the shopkeeper is honest when handing over any change due.

As was discussed at the beginning of this article, many people enjoy to travel. However, fewer people enjoy the actual process of making travel plans, since planning a trip can often be stressful for those involved. Use the tips provided in this article to make planning your trip a much easier experience.

If you are contemplating a vacation in Greece, especially a guided tour, then you will probbably appreciate the recently relesed comedy movie, “My Life In Ruins.” The title is a pun relating to a tour guide, operating out of Athens, whose life is not as good as she would like it to be.

Amongst the mishaps and mayhem of her latest tour you get to see quite a lot of scenery of the ancient ruins in Greece. This will give you an insight about what you are likely to encounter when you undertake your own tour. Naturally, when you see these wonders for yourself, you will appreciate them even more.

The movie deals with a lot more than the ancient ruins. It also shows how the paying members of a tour be so diverse with their varying idiosyncracies, temperaments and social backgrounds. The only thing that I disliked, being an Australian, was the “over-the-top” ocker image displayed by the actors portraying Australian tourists. Their accents and beer-swilling images were too exagerated, and their rhyming slang speech is something that has virtually disappeared from the modern vocabulary. Still it was fun to watch and there were some rib-tickling situations.

Whilst the plot was fairly predictable, it had a few twists in it and was well worth the time to watch it.

If you are planing a trip to Greece be aware that June and July can be very hot months to be touring. This can be good if you want to do swimming or sun baking at the beach, or perhaps downing a few nice cold beers. But the heat can be extremely depressing if you are in a coach, especially if the air conditioning doesn’t work.

Greece is full of beautiful islands, nice beaches and shimmering seas with clear water. It also has a lot of historical architecture and many ruins. It is steeped in history and all tourists should include the city of Olympia in their itinerary to view where the first Olympics were held.

The people are very friendly, the entertainment is good and the food is extremely delicious. If you are a young man you will find most of the young Greek women to be very attractive. If you are a young woman you will find that the majority of the Greek men are real hunks.

Athens is great at night and this is when the partying is at its height. When you walk through Athens in the day time, especially the old area, and look up at the Parthenon. In addition to the ruins, the palace is a must to see with guards in traditional costume on duty.

When you are travelling through the countryside you will see a number of houses that are unfinished with steel rods protruding through the roof. Generally they are two storeys high with a flat roof and external staircases. When I asked our guide about the unfinished houses he told me that this was because in Greece owners don’t have to pay tax on their house until their house is finished. So they tell the authorities that they are going to build another storey when finances permit. It appears that they do not mind how their houses look as long as they are functional and they can save on taxes.

There are a lot of islands forming the country, Greece, and it is generally best to visit some of these islands on a boat tour to get an appreciation of the laid back lifestyle and quaint old buildings that exist, especially on the shore lines.

If you do not enjoy your Greek vacation you are probably a very hard person to please.

I was fortunate to be able to visit the British Museum in London before I went on a tour to Greece.

In the British Museum there is a lot of information about the ruins in Greece and many artifacts on did play. In particular, the display of the Parthenon shows, in detail, how impressive this architectural feature is, and must have been in it’s day. Apparently, the British have half of the statues and frescos from one face and one side of the original structure.

Viewing these in the museum was interesting, but when I actually saw the remainder on the original site, I was quite in awe of the ancient architects. However, I must admit that I learned more about the Parthenon from the British Museum than I did whilst on tour.

You would need a full day to adequately take in all that the British Museum has on display about Greece, and another day or two to view the rest of the historical displays. The Egyptian Room is also quite fascinating.

If you have your heart set on a particular vacation; let’s say it is a cruise to Jamacia; then you may need to book the cruise quite some time ahead to ensure that you are on that cruise and that you have a reasonable cabin and so forth. However, if you are very flexible with your dates of departure etc., then you can find some really good deals.

This is because it is better for the vacation provider to have somebody in that cabin, on that tour, in that plane seat, in that hotel room, or staying in that resort, at a cheaper price than nobody at all. At least they will be making SOME profit, which is better than no profit, from the deal.

If you are patient, or even if you are looking for something in a hurry, it would be in your interest to check out, “Last Minute Deals” on the web. You will be surprised at how many cheap vacations, holidays, flights, and hotel rooms are available. Once again, if you really MUST be somewhere at a certain time then you may have to pay full price.

It seems that prices can be quite reasonable when packages are first released. Then they become more expensive when many of the deals are taken are there is a possibility that you may miss out. After this, the large discounts are put on offer when it appears that not all bookings may be taken up.

Some “last minute” deals are actually several weeks in advance for things such as cruises where it may be necessary for passengers to obtain visas to foreign countries etc.

When I did the Cherry Blossom Cruise from Australia to Japan earlier this year, I was surprised at how much could be saved if I had had the flexibility that others had. In fact it was rumored that some passengers found out about cheap passages on offer and worked out that it was better for them to cancel their bookings and lose their deposit, and then re-book at the much cheaper rate. I understand that they saved a couple of thousand dollars AND got the same cabin that they had when they cancelled their original booking.

We departed from Sydney and on our return we docked at Brisbane before returning to Sydney. Many Queensland passengers decided that it was in their interest to disembark at Brisbane. This left a lot of vacant cabins for the overnight trip to Sydney and many new faces could be seen duting that leg of the cruise. Many people must have received a good deal to enable them to experience the luxury on board of the Dawn Princess, albeit if it was virtually for less than a full day.

I understand that there were quite a few travel consultants learning first hand what their clients may experience when they undertook such a cruise.

The recent economic downturn has caused a lot of people, especially pensioners, to cancel pending vacations. This has opened the door for a lot of cheap vacations coming onto the market.

Some search terms that may assit you when looking for these cheap holidays are; last minute, cheap, inexpensive, value for money, cut price, cut rate, reasonable, dirt cheap, reduced, off-season, student, backpackers [travel, holidays, accomodation, airfares, flights, cruises, tours, vacations, resorts, hotels, train trips].

Orlando Vacation – The Hottest Top Ten Things to Do
By Jack Krohn

There are two limiting factors on what to do in Orlando-time and money: chances are pretty good you won’t have enough of either.

Of the top ten amusement parks in the country only seven of them are in Orlando. Here’s my list of the top ten things to do on your Orlando Fun Vacation. I dare you to try all ten on one trip. Walt Disney World by itself is 47 square miles of fun and adventure.

1. DISNEY-MAGIC KINGDOM. It is the most popular theme park in the world with nearly 15 million visitors. Rides such as Pirates of the Caribbean”, “Splash Mountain”, and “Space Mountain” are at the top of the all time best list. “It’s a Small World After All” leaves you singing the song for a week. All seven themed parks are difficult to do in a day.

2. DISNEY –MGM STUDIOS Here we have some of the best rides including the Twilight Zone “Tower of Terror”. An absolutely fascinating look at how the movies are made plus lots of fun too. Can be a one day adventure.

3. DISNEY-ANIMAL KINGDOM “Expedition Everest” is the highlight of the rides in this one day or less trip thru the Kingdom of Animals featuring “Festival of the Lion King”-a must see.

4. SEA WORLD Beautiful gardens are the backdrop for this educational and fun experience. Definitely worth a visit yet very different from the other Orlando attractions.
One ride worth the trip is “Kraken” a floorless roller coaster.

5. EPCOT CENTER Definitely a two day journey but in my opinion not for everyone. It is more of an educational experience and a little on the heavy side compared to the lightness of the other theme parks. It is very well done and very educational but again not everyone’s cup of tea.

6. BUSCH GARDENS Oh okay it is not in Orlando it’s in Tampa. It is one of the biggest zoos in the world and has some great thrill rides like “Kumba” and “Python”. Oh and the beer-did someone mention free beer!! Well worth the trip.

7. UNIVERSAL STUDIOS A working TV and motion picture studio with some great rides thrown in. Check out” Men in Black Alien Attack” and “Revenge of The Mummy” rides that will get your heart rate up in a hurry. There is a stiff competition between WDW and Universal for your dollar. The consumer is the winner as attractions at both places get better all the time.

8. ISLANDS OF ADVENTURE This slightly younger brother to Universal studios is made up of six islands that feature some of the best maybe the best thrill rides in Orlando. It is mostly for the 54″ and up crowd (the height restriction). “The amazing Adventures of Spider-Man”, “Dueling Dragons”, and “The Incredible Hulk” coaster are some of the best rides in the world.

9. DISNEY WATER PARKS You guessed it-a water theme park that is occasionally closed so check ahead. If water is your game-this is it!!

10. CIRQUE DE SOLEIL. I have seen at least a half a dozen of these shows in three different cities in the last 6-7 years or so and watched them on numerous TV specials. I am still amazed at the athleticism of the performers. But that is only the obvious. The choreography, set design, music, and the creativity of everything they do. Unbelievable. Not a circus in the American sense because there are no animals but spectacular nonetheless and not to be missed.

The only negative is it can be pricey. For a family of four it will set you back $180-300.
If you’ve never seen Cirque du Soleil, this may be the best opportunity for the family.
