I mentioned to my daughter yesterday that the past school year really hurtled past. The same could be said for my work year, because I would swear that entire weeks of the calendar vanished. I definitely didn’t get done any of the things on my Big Plans List, but I imagine a lot of people are in the same boat right now.

Hooked Series Audiobooks

Thanks to the good folks at Bryant Street Publishing, both existing Hooked novels now have audiobook editions!

At the moment, they’re exclusively available to listen to Scribd subscription holders, though that’ll likely change in the near future. Just keep your eyes peeled when you’re perusing your favorite audiobook retailer and library sites.

Other of my Bryant Street audiobooks like Lowdown Dirty and The Viking Queen’s Men are already turning up at places like Apple Books, so it’s really just a matter of time. (I will eventually get around to collecting and posting all those links, so keep checking my audiobook page, too, if you’ve been waiting for certain titles.)

Summer Discounts on Backlist Stories

Can I be honest? Sometimes, there’s no rhyme or reason to how I run sales. I’ll sometimes squint at a series page and try to remember the last time I told folks about it, or I’ll count stories in a collection and think, “That’s a lot of books.”

You can anticipate a lot of deals happening on my books throughout the summer simply because I won’t be around as much to mess with them.

Here are some longer-term deals you can hop on, but definitely peek again in June to see if I’ve added anything. My focus this go-round was heavily paranormal.

The Jekh Saga

All seven existing novels in my near-future space saga are discounted to 99¢ US through July 31st. The books 1-3 bundle is discounted to $2.49.

This series is currently exclusive to Amazon.

Wish Out of Water

The lead novel in my country-fried mermaid series is discounted to 99¢ US through August 7th at all ebook retailers.

A Demon in Waiting

The first story in the massive Mortonville to Maria continuity is heavily discounted through 9/22.

The ebook will be available as a free download at all ebook retailers. It may not immediately be listed as free at Amazon in your region, but the price-match system should (hopefully) eventually catch it up.

Saving Soren

Another freebie! (Same price-match deal applies as above.)

I know it’s unusual to put the last book in series on sale this way, but I actually do have some logic for this one. I’d really love for readers to meet the heroine Marcella, who happens to be a water creature of a different sort.

Obviously, this book spoils every single series plot, but if you’re the highly anxious sort who needs to peek at ends anyway to be sure everything turns out okay: this should appeal to you.

I don’t know if you recall, but Shrew & Company was my very first paranormal series. It’s chaotic as hell, and I definitely leaned into my “soap operas were my childhood babysitter” story telling style, but it holds a tremendously large place in my fiction writer heart.

Viking’s Pride

Here’s one to collect from The Afótama Legacy. Viking’s Pride is the third story in the series, but because it was a novella written for a multi-author bundle, it stands alone pretty well.

The story’s all about what happens when a guy finally notices his childhood girl-next-door. Plus some psychic modern Viking things. (See what I mean here.)

It’s free everywhere through the summer, but watch the pricing on Amazon and check to make sure it’s been matched to $0 in your region.

The Angel’s Fire

This one isn’t last-in-series, but pretty close. Masters of Maria is an unusual series, though, in that it has a twining of several background plots and family groups. Yes, The Angel’s Fire is going to spoil all of the Maria-set stories that come before it, as well as some little intrigues in Desert Guards and Sons of Gulielmus, but I’ll leave it up to you to decide if you want to read it now or save it for a future glom.

Honestly, I picked this one to discount now because I was re-listening to the Wakanda Forever soundtrack last week and I caught a vibe.

This story features a semi-repentant fallen angel and a Mesoamerican deity tormenting each other across three-plus centuries.

It’ll be listed as free at all ebook retailers, but again: beware of the Kindle one-click. Check to see if it’s been price-matched there.

Now both of the Hooked novels are available in audiobook format.

You can listen to Wish Out of Water and Water Under the Bridge back to back and really get your under-the-sea mermaid romance cup filled up this month.

The usual warning applies: don’t play this one in the car with the windows down.

As we all start gearing up for the re-imagining of a certain mermaid thing (about which even my 16-year-old son has commented “It doesn’t even look that bad”), I’m thrilled to throw a bit of my Hooked world into the fantasy frenzy.

Fresh off the audio press, there’s now an audiobook version of Wish Out of Water available to Scribd subscribers!

Take a listen and start your week with some sighs and some belly laughs. My mermaid doesn’t sing, but she can balance a checkbook, and like any good Millennial, knows the best strategy for dealing with someone ringing her front doorbell is to not move a single damn muscle and hold her breath until they go away.

After a bit of a creative hiccup, I found a way over the revision hurdle slowing the re-launch of what used to be An Angel Fallen. The sailing should be a little smoother here on out and I anticipate getting that back into e-readers by early summer. I know that it was originally a Christmas novella that I wrote as a bit of a bridge between Sons of Gulielmus and Desert Guards, but in the new edition I’ve shaved down some of the holiday tone for no other reason except that it didn’t matter as much for the plot anymore. (There’s still snow on the ground, but living in Colorado as I do now where we could get four-inches overnight after we’ve set our tomatoes out—don’t let that distract you from summer reading.)

I anticipate that once I’ve tidied up that loose end in the series, I’ll be able to anticipate better planning for frontlist stories (i.e. the next Hooked, Jekh, Down and Dirty, and Maria-set novels. I actually started that Down and Dirty book, so it is literally an actual, legitimate thing.)

My best guess right now is that I’ll have a lot to say around August or September or so when my summer travel has wound down. Fingers crossed! (You’re always welcome to email me and ask if I’ve totally space cadeted on that, though. I’ll respond eventually. :D )

I promise: I’m not quiet because I’m planning to stealth-launch a book. I wish that were the case. My problem at the moment is purely one of having too few hours in a day.

When I have more to say about Hooked, Jekh, or Hearth Motel, I promise I won’t be subtle.

This post will be a short and sweet one as I’m hustle mode in other parts of my life right now.

The only “new” news is that The Chieftain’s Daughter is now rolling out in serial form in Radish.

As much as I can in 2023, I’d like to make more of my backlist available on platforms that are friendly to people with attention spans that are as…challenged as mine is right now. And maybe even some frontlist. We’ll see.

The only significant news from January is that the audiobook version of Dirty Laundry launched on Scribd!

If dry humor and Sapphic Southerners are your niche (and even if you didn’t know they are), you can listen to the book as part of the subscription plan there. The first book in the series, Lowdown Dirty, is also available there if you’re the kind of reader who needs to start at the beginning. The books stand alone and feature different couples, but the cast members are deeply connected. (You’ll have to see what I mean.)

I’m back in the place.

The support team jiggled their whosits and whatsits and I can access my Twitter account again.

I’m not there much, but at the very least, if you mention me or tag me, I’ll see it eventually, for whatever that’s worth.

As far as social media goes, I’m still technically on a couple of places, but the time constraints of having children who can’t drive is a little intense at this stage of my life. If I have to choose between being charming on Instagram and actually finding time to eat a sandwich, I have to choose the sandwich.

Coming up?

At this point, I know better than to promise ANYthing, but just know I’m diligently working on getting that last Sons of Gulielmus story back out. That’s first priority. I’ve got to be honest and say that it’s taking as long as it is because that was a series I wrote pre-ADHD diagnosis. I write and revise a lot differently now. That is to say slower because the shading of every paragraph and snippet of internal dialogue reads differently to me now. I could just slap a cover on it and put it out as it was when it was originally published, but I can’t. The story has to make sense in context of what happens next in Desert Guards and Masters of Maria. (And this story is what’s preventing me from moving on to the Jaguar series. I can’t go there until the world’s history is complete again. But yes, it’s still a thing I’m going to do.)

And again, no promises, but this year, you’ll probably see the final Down and Dirty novel (Leah and Clay), a Hooked novel, and the final Hearth Motel book.

Jekh?

I’d like to, but to be honest, those stories get buried at retailers, which means readers don’t see them. If you need that next book, it’d help immensely if you tell a friend to give them a try! If they like complex worldbuilding, light sci-fi, polyamorous aliens, heroines who (generally) know their worth, and high heat, the series will keep them occupied for a few days at least.

My Den of Sin stories are now under one cover!

As part of a personal resolution to make my backlist easier to navigate, I’m in the process of combining works from completed series into collections.

I talked on various platforms about how the Den of Sin series came about, but to briefly recap: it was originally part of a multi-author story world set at a New Orleans hotel that every so often becomes a certain sort of adult destination. It’s a high-heat mixed orientation series and all stories have happy-for-now or happily-ever-after endings.

Many of my stories set at the Den have significant overlap, so it made sense for me to finally combine them chronologically. (The Reedsville Roosters stories that cross over are not included as that series technically isn’t finished.)

The individual Den titles are no longer available for sale, and that’s because you can get It Happened at The Den basically for the same price as one of the longer novellas.

1. I’m definitely locked out of the bird site.

I’m only stating this because I’ve been generally scarce there in recent months, but recently, that absence hasn’t been on purpose.

I learned of a security breach on the site and was warned to immediately change my password.

Well, I did that. But then the site wouldn’t recognize it or the backup code Bird Site had previous generated for me and told me to store for precisely this purpose.

*taps fingertips*

I’ve been waiting for about a week for someone (if there is anyone actually there) to respond to my support ticket.

If you’ve been mentioning me over there with specific queries, you might just want to go old(er)-school and…email me.

2. Some backlist slimming.

You know the adage “less is more”?

Well, I don’t know if that’s actually true, but less is definitely easier to keep track of from an administrative perspective.

If you’ve been making your way through my Den of Sin stories and haven’t collected them all, they may not be available when you look for them.

To be clear: they’re not completely going away. I’m simply consolidating the entire collection under one cover and eliminating all the separate listings. It’ll make a life a smidge easier when I do my periodic pricing changes or update metadata. Right now, Den of Sin is a cluster of related stories that are all of disparate lengths (for reasons), and they’re just tough to position them in a digital marketplace.

This isn’t going to be a $6 bundle. These stories are deep in the backlist, so I’m offering them as one ebook product for probably a perma-$2.99.

NOTE: this does not affect any of the Reedsville Roosters tie-in stories like Winterball. Those will remain wherever they are and however they are, as technically…that series isn’t finished yet.

I’ve been kind of sitting on the edges of things, observing, and focusing my energy carefully, so I’ve held off on positioning any new books on the schedule. I know some of you are waiting for continuations and updates. I’ve just got to make sure I can position them for success.
