The List: Calligraphy

One of the things I want to do on "THE LIST" is to learn how to do calligraphy. I feel like because I'm left handed I might have a harder time learning, but I'm determined to learn. I'm constantly searching the calligraphy tag on Instagram and every time I go to the bookstore I browse through different calligraphy books.

Have any of you learned? Do you have any tips for a COMPLETE beginner? And a left handed beginner at that? I know the main tip is PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE. First I need to find some left handed pens/nibs...

I was going to do a regular Monday's Finds post, but I stumbled upon this website called Sevenly and I wanted to share it with you guys. Every Monday a new cause is chosen and items are created and sold for 7 days. 7$ of every items is then given to the charity of that week. This is the cause for this week:

There’s a silent killer affecting nearly half a million babies each year. This culprit is called hydrocephalus, which resides in the fragile skulls of newborns, causing fluid to build up in the brain and creating severe swelling. Left untreated, this condition leads to brain damage, blindness, and ultimately death. In Uganda, the medical care required to save these babies does not exist, forcing mothers to watch helplessly as their infant suffers painfully.

Oh yeah. BROOKE GOT ENGAGED!!!

Oh hey! It's been a while, eh? I've been a bit busy lately & I've also been enjoying the nice SPRING weather! Finally! I was beginning to think it was going to feel like winter for EVER. The winter is nice & all, I really am a fan, but when it's cold for so long it starts to bum ya out!

So, these photos are from the 8th to the 21st of April. Keith & I hung out with Soph, Lauren & Jesse for a bit (Sophie is seriously my favourite kid EVER. She's the best.). Sara & I went to our first ever yoga class! We soon learned it wasn't a beginner's class... haha. I was sore for a few days afterwards. I am not flexible at all. I mean, I can't even touch my toes... but I recently got a yoga mat & I'm seriously wanting to get into it. Sara's in Italy for the next few weeks, but once she comes back I'm hoping that we will start to go regularly. To BEGINNERS classes, ha!

I also had a craft show at the Gladstone Hotel in Toronto! Don't ask me why, but I didn't take ANY photos on my camera! I have maybe two or three cell phone shots, but that's it. It was a fun day, though! & afterwards I made a little terrarium at West Elm, so that was fun. (I still need to take some daylight photos of that.)

On the 15th I headed to Toronto for a Jay's game with Keith, De & Tim. We went to this bookstore & I got a ton of books for 6.99$ which was AWESOME. (New books are always great, but finding them for so cheap?! Even better! That means more books! Haha.) And we also went to CHIPTOLE, so it was a great day. (The Jay's won, by the way!)

Wednesday was Alex's birthday, so we all went out for dinner to surprise her. (She might have found out about it, but that's okay... ha!) Plus it was the first time seeing Brooke since she got back from Japan! That was a lot of fun, plus any night that ends in ice cream is pretty damn good.

Thursday I went to Port Dover with Lauren & Sophie and we ate at The Crepe House. DELICIOUS. I can't wait to go back and try some of the other crepes! The one I got had blueberries and lemon curd and was soo good. Oh man.

I ended the week with Brooke, Alex & Meaghan in Guelph. We went out for lunch and did a bit of shopping. We always have so much fun when we get together, and always buy way too much! Hahaha. I got some new Lush goodies for the bath, and some new tea from DAVIDsTEA. I can never have enough of either!

Anyway, I'm glad that I was able to mark off two different items on "THE LIST" in these two weeks! I went to a yoga class, went in another craft show, & finally went to a Jay's game! (I've been to a few Jay's games, but not since creating the list.) Hopefully this summer I'll mark off a lot more. Do you have a list of anything that you want to do over the summer?

Monday's Finds: Part 28!

If you have steps anywhere in your backyard, this is a great idea for how to decorate around them!

I always have herbs in pots at the back of the deck, but this is such a nicer way to display them!

Even if you don't have a lot of room in your backyard, you can still grow quite a bit!

I looooove succulents!

I love this idea: river rocks in a box garden hose = clean feet! Placed in the sun will heat the stones as well. Great way to wash off feet covered with grass and dirt before coming inside.

Love the idea of growing things in crates!

Can you tell I have gardening on my mind? Haha. The weather has been getting warmer (er, kind of. Okay, we did have some flurries on the weekend... ha!) but I'm getting excited to grow things this summer! I want to grow a lot of vegetables and as always, tons of herbs! Do you ever grow veggies or herbs? Or are you lucky enough to be able to grow fruit year round where you live?

(Tried to) Surprise dinner for Joey's birthday!

This week was filled with crocheting & watching documentaries on Netflix (The World's Toughest Gang, Inside North Korea, Dear Zachary - which is the saddest thing I have ever seen but I highly suggest watching it.) and Locked Up Abroad. Also lots of tea, I got my hair done for the first time since last May (how had it almost been a year?!) and eating some delicious food. Oh, and hanging out with friends & my cousin!

My parents, my sister & I decided to head to Hamilton on Saturday afternoon to check out this burger place a guy my dad works with suggested. We also stopped at The Bread Bar to pick up some freshly baked bread, that I'm wishing I had in front of me right now... While we waited for a table at Chuck's, my Mom & I wandered around Locke Street checking out some of the shops. Above Goodness Me is a really awesome shop called Pure, and since I took about a million and one photos of it I'll save that for another post... haha. We also found a teashop that was selling macarons, and since I haven't had any since I was in Paris (in 2011! AH I want to go baaaaaaack! Haha.) I had to get a few. We also saw a tearoom that does afternoon tea (complete with a woman who will read your tea leaves!) so we're going to have to go check that out some time this summer.

Later that night Keith, Alex, Tessier & I headed back to Hamilton to a restaurant to surprise Joey for his birthday! Although the surprise may have accidentally been ruined, we all still had a lot of fun. How can you not at a place called Hillbilly Heaven? Haha!

Melting Snow

Keith & I took this little munchkin for a walk a few Saturdays ago when we had a nice & sunny day. The snow was almost all melted and Squirt had fun peeing on as many trees as she could & walking into the (freezing cold!) water. She looooooooves exploring and Keith & I like checking out new places. Unfortunately because it was a Saturday and one of the nicest days we had so far this year, everyone else had the same idea. All of the places we wanted to go was filled with other people (and dogs, and Squirt is more of a people person.) so we ended up going to this place near the river that Keith used to hang out at when he was younger. Hopefully this spring & summer we can check out some of the waterfalls nearby! There are more than 120 and I'd love to go to as many as we can! (Over time, of course... haha!) Are there any cool places near you that you can go check out? And hidden waterfalls?

My Mom & I went to the One of a Kind Craft Show in Toronto & had a really good time! I was hoping to meet up with Danni from Oh Hello Friend, but got to meet her husband instead! haha. I also picked up some goodies from her booth, I'll have to take some photos & share that in another post. I'm so glad we went on the Thursday because there were no lines or big crowds (except around Danni's booth! Every time I went by it it was surrounded by people.) and we had enough time afterwards to stop at Chipotle to get some delicious burrito salads & at DAVIDsTEA before catching the train home. (I can't go to Toronto and not stop at DAVIDsTEA! Haha.)

On the 29th my Nana came over and we were able to skype with her cousins Helen & Scottie in Michigan! My Nana hasn't seen them since they were here in September (the past few years we take her to Michigan to stay with them for a few days, but last year she was in the hospital for a bit and didn't feel up to traveling.) and only talks to them on the phone (but has a hard time because she's VERY hard of hearing) and through letters. Keith & I stayed with them in January on our way to Chicago and Helen & I write letters back and forth, but it was so nice to skype with them! It really felt like we were all together again. Helen just turned 93 this week!

A Peek at My Week... 59 & 60!

One of my favourite meals EVER. It's so good. Black beans, sunny side up eggs with cheese, fresh homemade salsa (cherry tomatoes, red onion, jalepenos, lime juice & LOTS of fresh cilantro), avocado (when I have it, unfortunately not this time, hah.), sour cream, & hot sauce on a grilled tomato & basil tortilla. YUM.

I'm missing a few photos for this post (they were all taken on my point & shoot camera and I haven't uploaded them yet.)... I went out for dinner with Tim & De, Jesse, Lauren & Soph one night. Then celebrated Tim's birthday & babysat Sophie another day. We also went over to Nat & Travis' for St. Patrick's Day, and my parents & I went out to the Bread Bar in Hamilton for a delicious dinner.

Other than that, these two weeks were filled with lots of my favourite meal (haha), creating new items for my shop, celebrating my Dad's birthday, drinking lots of tea & working on Paint-By-Numbers! Haha. Does anyone else like to do those? I am so terrible at painting, but when you squint at the finished product it looks okay... ha!

Wood Branches

A little while ago I was contacted by HomeSav to see if I'd like to do a review for my blog. Uh, YES! Haha. I honestly had a hard time figuring out what to get, because there are so many great things available on their website. HomeSav offers all kinds of things from small appliances to home decor at awesome prices. The items go up from anywhere for 24 hours to 6 days, and new items are added every day.

I picked this really awesome looking Wood Branches lamp and I just love the way it looks. It's so unique, I've never seen anything like it before. I really wish that we still had our cottage up north, because it would look perfect there. But it also looks pretty awesome sitting with my beautiful orchid (thanks Keith!) & mini Eiffel Tower I got while in Paris.

The shipping was extremely quick. When the doorbell rang & the delivery guy said he had a package for me, I honestly had no idea what it was. I didn't think it was possible for the lamp to be here that quickly, ha. The entire purchase was awesome, the people I worked with were amazing, it was just overall a great experience. I'm looking forward to buying more things from them in the future! Right now I have my eye on a few of these pillows... And the best thing? When you invite a friend to buy something, they receive 10$ off their first purchase. In return you get a 15$ credit! Awesome.

It's been a little quiet on here lately, I haven't had a chance to get any photos uploaded so I've just been taking a little break from blogging. Hopefully some time this week I'll be able to upload all of the photos I've got waiting to be shared on here!

Lately I've been working on a lot of new items for my shop, and getting ready for an upcoming craft show in Toronto. I've been working with some awesome people on some new things and I'm excited to share them all with you, very soon! I've also been doing the Couch25K and I'm enjoying it this time... ha! I've finally realized that I don't have to run as fast as I can, if I jog it's a lot easier. Maybe sometime this summer I'll sign up for some 5K runs around here! Exciting. I also picked up a yoga mat, so I'm excited to finally go to a yoga class and hopefully get into it.

Tomorrow I'm planning on going out for tea with my friend Erin before her & her fiance pack up and move out west, so that will be fun! We seem to go a long time without hanging out, but whenever we manage to get together we talk non-stop for hours.

Ah, I love the snow & the winter time... but I decided it's time to start getting ready for the summer! Keith & I have been meaning to make a list of things that we want to do this summer, so I thought I would do a little post of some ideas that I came up with.

Every summer I want to go fruit picking. Last year we went strawberry, blueberry & peach picking. Unfortunately we missed out on the raspberries, and the majority of the cherry trees were ruined for the season because of the really warm weather we got last March. (I'm hoping that doesn't happen again this year!) Also, maybe we can go gooseberry & pear picking! There are a few farms around here where we can do that.

I'd love to make some delicious things from all of the fruit that we're (hopefully) going to pick! Last year I made some yummy blueberry & strawberry scones. This year I'm hoping to make a pie and some jam.

And while we're on the topic of food... make more pizza on the BBQ! The BBQ gives the pizza such a delicious flavour... & it's easy!

And of course... sleep outside again! I think Squirt enjoys sleeping outside the most... she spends most of the night running around, haha!

Go to Toronto Island & see my sheep again!! It's been over a year & a half!! Haha.

Drank lots of tea... as usual. I love Lime Gelato from DavidsTea.

Worked on some squares for the new Crochet-A-Long I joined.

My Dad & I went downtown to the chili cookoff.

Got my first Julep box in the mail!

Keith & I went out for din.

Squirty did not want me to take photos of the books I read... haha she was more interested in seeing what was outside.

So, I guess I posted a lot of my photos from week 57 in last week's post. Oh well. We hung out at Tim & De's, juiced, watched some movies (Django Unchained & Fire in the Sky), I worked on crocheting (I've hardly been knitting this year! I've been all about crochet.), watched LOTS of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. I LOVE THAT SHOW. Oh man. I usually don't like to re-watch things (I know, I can't stand it though! haha.) but I can re-watch that show over & over & OVER. Hmm what else... Keith & I went out for breakfast... my Dad & I went downtown to the chili cookoff (the restaurant that made my favourite chili the past two years wasn't in it this year! Bummer, haha.) and then afterwards my Mom, Dad & I went to Paris to go to an open house. The house was built in 1865 and was one of the first three houses in the world to have a telephone. It was such a cool old house. Makes me think of ghosts, though!

I'm not sure what we're doing this weekend... Keith mentioned something about going to Toronto for the night? (Hear that Jules & Eryn?! Haha.) But we'll see! What do you have planned for this weekend? Hope whatever it is you have fun! Oh & hey! It's March! That's kinda crazy... eh?

The List: January & (most of) February Update!

I never got around to doing my monthly update for January, so I figured I would just combine January & (most of) February into one post. The other day my Dad & I glued the map of the world that I have to a piece of corkboard/wood so that I can finally hang it on the wall & put pins in for all of the places I've been. The package of pins that I got have a few different colours so I'm going to pin a few different things, I think. Places I've been, places I want to go (although most of the map might be covered after that, so I've got to think about that one, haha.), places that I've sent letters to (this year? Since I've been keeping track of the letters I've been sending this year.), & places I've shipped items to. AND HEY, if you want to be pen pals... fill out your information here & I'll send ya a little something! Let me know if you'd like my info, too! Haha. Mail is fun!

Speaking of letters, I haven't been sitting down every Sunday night to write letters... haha. Whoops. But I have sent over 12 letters (or postcards), so... that's good. Haha.

And as for books, I read one book on the iPad that I'm totally counting, even though it wasn't more than 100 pages... haha. So I read Insurgent, Swim, MWF Seeking BFF (this took me FOREVER to get through.), Lullabies for Little Criminals, War Child (really liked this.), and Rules of the Tunnel (Eh, wouldn't suggest that book.). Right now I'm reading Growing Up Amish.

Last week I got a bit of a cold, mostly an earache. When I was younger I never had earaches, but my sister was constantly getting them. So, I think I got my first ever one last week. They suck, ha. And ear drops feel so straaaaange! Not a fun feeling. I'm feeling a lot better now, though. We had a few game nights last week. I love playing games! & finding new games to play. I'm a little bit Caracassonned out, so I'm glad that we've started playing Catan! We played it at Simon & Sam's house one night, then over to Tristan's another. Game nights are fun!

My friend Erin came over on Thursday and we had such a fun visit! We went to high school together, and seem to get together every two years or so... haha. I hadn't seen her since Keith & I met her boyfriend (who is now her fiance) and her for a few years ago. She's hilarious & always so fun to hang out with. Hopefully we won't go that long without seeing each other again!

I also picked up some new books, and the One Line a Day journal. I love writing down in my planner what I did the day before, so now I have a place where I can write a bit of a longer version and do so every year. Awesome. Do any of you guys have that book? Or one similar to it? This weekend, I'm not really sure what we're doing. Keith is now feeling a bit sick, so probably not a whole lot. Sunday I'm going to the chili cook off downtown with my Dad. We've gone the past few years & always eat a ton of delicious chili. Hope you guys all have a great weekend! Do you have anything fun planned?

This chicken is so delicious... cook chicken & then make bruschetta topping and put that, some sliced avocado & mozzarella cheese on top, then pop it under the broiler until the cheese is melted. Put it on a bed of baby spinach and then drizzle some (or, LOTS!) balsamic reduction on top. Add more avocado & EAT. SO GOOD.

Keith & I went to London for the night and ate at Relish. That was his burger with grilled cheeses instead of a bun.

We skyped with Brooke! She's in Japan for a month (or maybe two??).

Note to self: DO NOT do this again unless you like being sore for three days... (Also, ignore my super messy hair...)

Letter writing, babysitting cute kids, crocheting, delicious food, lots of games, good friends, snow and cute dogs. That is a pretty good summary of these two weeks.

I reorganized my desk a little bit the other day, so I thought I would take some photos of my workspace to share with you guys. Yarn can sometimes make a place look a bit messy with the ends everywhere, but I love being able to see all of the different colours that I'm working with. Right now I'm working on pillows (all of those circles are going to be turned into a pillow, I just need to pick up some more of the white to join them all together) and I'm also working on a new crochet-a-long. I joined one, but I kind of misread the instructions and instead of getting a new square or block to make every week, it's every other week. I'm going to continue working on that, but I get so restless waiting two weeks for a new square to work on! Haha. So I found this one called InaSpin that is on week 13, so I figured I might as well join & try to catch up!

I also have a bunch of hearts that I made for the craft show that I was going to be in a couple of weeks back. The night before the craft show, we got a really big snow storm, so I decided to not head to Toronto in the morning for the show. The show was going to be just before Valentine's Day, so I made a ton of heart themed products! It's kind of a bummer I didn't get a chance to sell them, but now I've got a bunch of stock for next year's Valentine's day, ha! I might list some of the hearts in my Etsy shop and see how they do... hearts can be enjoyed year round, right?

What does your desk look like? Completely clear? More of a neat clutter? (Oxymoron, I know!) Do you like putting everything away and having it clear or do you prefer to see everything you're working on, like I do?

This is a really great idea! Especially if you like to have a visual thing to keep you motivated.

When training, put up a Post It note for each day and rip them off when you're done to keep motivated. They say it takes 21 days to develop a habit.

If I had this in my backyard I would spend so much time out there! It's the perfect spot to curl up with some tea and a book! (And some knitting or crocheting, of course!)
