I love playing Plant vs Zombies compared to the Angry Birds game. So how about re-creating them on cakes? Here is my masterpiece Plant.

And now, match begins:

1) The Plant meets the Monster.

2) The Plant is a goner, no match for the Little Monster!

Mickey & Minnie Mouse

2011-10-30T22:37:00.000+08:00

Who doesn't know Mickey and Minnie Mouse, the famous icon of Disney?

I remember growing up watching their cartoons on video cassette at friend's house, having them on almost everywhere - on pencil case, coloring book, pen, eraser, T-shirt and sweaters! I feel proud to own any of their merchandize. Gosh, that was more than 20 years ago! I feel so old now.

Yesterday I was brought back to my childhood when I was given the opportunity to bake a cake for a 3-year old girl who is so much into Mickey & Minnie. I hope the birthday gal loves her cake!

Barney, the Purple Dinosaur

"I love you, You love me,

We're a happy family,

With a great big hug and a kiss from me to you,

Won't you say you love me too..."

I bet every little kid grew up knowing this song; knowing Barney, the loveable purple dinosaur who comes magically to life to play, sing and dance. Barney is every little kids' growing up icon!

A friend asked for my help to bake her a Barney cake for her two year old nephew who is passionate of this friendly purple dinosaur. I hope the little man is in favor of his surprise gift from his aunt!

Happy Birthday little Jay!

Mid Autumn Festival - Mom's Homemade Mooncake Jelly

2011-08-15T23:25:00.000+08:00

I am already in the mood of celebrating Mid Autumn Festival or Zhongqiu Festival even though it is still a month to go. The festival is celebrated on the 15th day of the eight month of Chinese Calendar and this year it falls on 12th September when the moon is at it's roundest. The traditional delicacy for this occasion is mooncake - a thin tender skin enveloping a sweet dense filling of normally red bean or lotus paste and contain a whole salted egg yolks in its center.

Nowadays mooncakes is celebrated with a twist - Mooncake jellies. My mom is now busy in her little kitchen preparing the jellies of assorted flavors with fresh fruits fillings - strawberry, mango, kiwi, honeydew & durian. A box would consist of 4 flavors and a little surprise in the center, a jelly yolk to symbolize the full moon!

We are ready to take orders. Kindly PM me at aliza_tan@yahoo.com if you would like to order my mom's special homemade recipe. Early birds will get special discounts, so hurry!

Angry Bird & Pigs

2011-07-26T19:26:00.000+08:00

Today is my little cheeky's birthday!

My cheeky little nephew turns 6 today. Knowing that he is so into Angry Birds, I gave him a surprise birthday gift full of Angry Birds and Pigs on a cinnamon cream cheese roll cake.

He gave me a ring to thank me for the cake and told me that he is going to wait till his mummy is back from work before cutting the cake. But it seems that the birds and pigs did not survive long (at least till their parents are back from work) as it all ended up in their little tummies. Half of the cake managed to last till later on though *grin*

Happy Birthday Jamie!

Apple Cheese Tart

2011-07-12T23:19:00.006+08:00

Question: What do you do when you got too much apples in storage?
Answer: Bake something out of it obviously.

Honestly I am not much a fan of any apple dessert but I got way too much apples in stock. I Google up to find out what I can do with the excess apples and when I found a recipe for apple tart, I thought I should give it a try. What actually attractted me was the added cream cheese fillings. Not only that the recipe is so simple and straightforward, I am, in fact am falling in love with the taste too! Two slices for me is just ain’t enough! Mmmm…mmmmm….

Question: What do you get when you combine Angry Bird with iPad?
Answer: A happy birthday boy and two overly excited nephews

Today is my elder brother's birthday. I surprise him with an iPad cake since he just bought an iPad2 less than 2-weeks ago. The Angry Birds, well those were actually meant for my nephews as they were so into the game!

So should I call this as 'killing two birds with one stone'...errr, or should be 'killing two pigs with a bird? *smirk*

So what would be more perfect that having a chocolate with blueberry filling cupcakes adorned with princess-y themed fondant decorations. I proposed for a two-tier with the center piece of a little girl sitting on a 5” inch chocolate cake layered with blueberry and butter cream. For the love of cupcakes

2011-05-19T21:29:00.002+08:00

While others may be lazing around doing practically nothing on a rainy afternoon of a public holiday, I was busy baking and decorating my cupcakes. It was fun having making all the nice decoration on top of the yummy cuppies.

Here’s adding on to some of my collections:

This is for my cousin. She had been asking for a Hello Kitty for quite some time now. So here's a Hello Kitty and Marie for kitty lovers like her.

A mini tower cupcakes. Sadly, the day was getting late and I was in hurry to complete this last batch for my cousin to bring back to Singapore. Wish I had more time add more flowers.

This is an order from a friend for a Lychee Rose Cupcakes for the one he loves. I simply love the slight pinkish colored butter cream along with a rose bud topper. Simple yet so elegant!

Welcoming Jaden Ho

2011-02-27T00:37:00.000+08:00

Born on the first day of Chinese Lunar calendar, little Jaden is the new addition to my family. The first born to my youngest uncle and his lovely wife will be celebrating his full-moon in just couple of days. So in celebrating little Jaden's arrival, I bake him a carrot walnut cake then decorated with a cute little baby holding on his blankie. Well, since little Jaden is still too young to savor the cake, so it'll be for the proud mummy and daddy to savor then *grin*

CONGRATULATIONS on the arrival of your bundle of joy!

Chocolate Mousse: Fancy yet simple

2011-02-19T10:39:00.001+08:00

I grew up with the thought that mousse was a fancy dessert to have and obviously something that fancy would be pretty complicated to make. I would go ooo’d and ahh’d over it when were served with one! But I was all wrong until yesterday *wink* I never knew making one is just as simple as 1,2,3. I was still skeptical until I tasted it and thrilled that it was a GREAT success - it is so rich and chocolaty yet still light and fluffy. I would definitely make this again...

Ballerina Princess Cake

2011-01-10T22:32:00.002+08:00

Another year has passed, today my niece turns 9. Just last year I helped my mom to decorate her birthday cake, a cream cheese cake miserably decorated with whipped cream and chocolate rice. Time flew without us realize and she is now another year older.

Two months back when she saw the birthday cake I did for my nephew, she asked me if I would know how to create a princess cake, Disney Princesses to be exact and she wanted all the 6 Princesses! But knowing my own limited capability, I did not promise her any princess cake, instead I told her I would surprise her during her birthday.

So I started doing my research and getting all the materials needed in preparation for her little surprise. Yesterday, I finally completed my by-far most satisfying ‘little project’ – a Ballerina Princess cake. The cake fits the princess-y theme too. The cake batter was added with multicolored chocolate rice, hence created a colorful cake which then frosted with butter cream and blueberry filling, just another surprise within.

I simply could not forget the happy little face when I delivered the cake over. Happy Sweet Birthday Ashley.

Kahlua Tiramisu Cups

2010-11-30T19:41:00.003+08:00

I have been wanting to try on Tiramisu cake after a colleague of mine baked me one for my birthday couple months back but kept putting it away. Then when another colleague brought this up weeks ago, I knew I had to try it out. So I went on to search for the recipe and finally make some time to create it over the weekend.

Still lots of space for improvement....I need a more exciting and thicker coffee and an even more quicker hands when dipping the lady's fingers to coffee.
