PaperGirl Origami Jewelry offers hand-folded and handcrafted jewelry from tiny origami models. I love to use gorgeous Japanese papers in my jewelry, many of which are inspired by richly colored kimono designs, but I also love contemporary prints and textures. All my jewelry has been coated for durability and water resistance, and it is extremely lightweight so it is comfortable to wear. I combine the paper beads with wire findings and designs of my own creation.

A graduate from the University of Massachusetts with a degree in Anthropology/Sociology, Paula also studied Art History, Jewelry Making and Weaving, and first started working as a silversmith in Cambridge, MA shortly after college.

Working a full-time job and raising a son, Paula has also been employed in many aspects of the jewelry business, from sales at Bloomingdales to production work, finally establishing her own jewelry company 12 years ago.

“I have been very fortunate to travel to many parts of the world and have been greatly influenced by what I absorbed in the wonderful museums and the different cultures I have visited. Many of my designs feature lampwork glass beads created by master artisans throughout the United States and Canada. Most are independent artists with home studios. I love working with them because it feels good to support their businesses, but especially because the beads they produce are the best you can get anywhere. The creativity, hand detailing, and high quality they offer is truly without equal.

Another Use

I started AnotherUse in 2009 when I wanted to think of a way to join the "green" movement. I'm very creative and jewelry has always been something I've loved to make. I stumbled across an idea that utilized old magazines, and turned it into my own. Now my jewelry has blossomed into what it is today; eco-friendly, vintage-inspired, funky, statement jewelry.

Most of my pieces incorporate 50-90% upcycled/recycled components. I've recently started requesting donated jewelry that is useless to others, so that I can recreate it into something fresh and new. I have received some fascinating items so far!

It has only been recently that I have started taking my hobby seriously, and have the drive to turn it into a career. So far it has made slow progress, but progress nonetheless. I know that if I don't give up, it will eventually pay off.

For the past 20 years, I have been designing with beads from a wide range of materials: stone, glass, crystal, metal, cloisonnée, bone, horn, porcelain, ceramic, wood. Each design is completely unique: one-of-a-kind pieces that you will not see anyone else wearing.

The designs include elegant styles for special occasions, eye-catching treasures of lampworked glass, crystal, precious metal, or special vintage beads, usually in formal, dressy designs. My more casual jewelry is for everyday wear: at work, at home, with dresses, pants, or bluejeans. And I have lots of ethnic pieces with a touch of exotic far-away places and colorful patterns.

My work is only available at etsy.com (nearly 300 items listed) and at an annual indoor fair in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, where I live with my husband and our five cats.
