The End Of My Growing Season

Just recently about a week ago i picked all my connecticut broadleaf. And here in MA its already getting pretty cold in early october and the plants are holding up quite well so if you live in the area where i am i strongly suggest you grow connecticut broadleaf You get alot of tobacco to from the plants and if you use miracle grow they get huge and anyone that comes over will be shocked of the size. The best part is i hung some early pickings up awhile ago and i jus rolled and smoked a few and they were great.

Bonanza(Nicotiana tabacum L.)
"A White Burley cross on the Yellow Orinoco, said to possess the qualities of both parents: beautifully blended, and very popular with manufacturers, being tougher than the White Burley and more porous than the Orinoco: very hardy. Post 1880 introduction." This seems to be one of the best for flue-cured tobaccos tough and great for flu-cureing.

Air-cure tobacco by hanging the leaves in a ventilated barn until they have no sugar remaining. This usually occurs by the time they have turned a light to medium brown.

The Method that i really like useing is just picking the all the leaves and washing them off with the hose then settting them to dry for about an hour. After they are dry i take them and with a needle and string string up all the leaves and hang them up in the basement which works really well i suggest this method overall becuase its the easiest for someone with not alot of room and money to do.

I Hung all my leaves by string going through the main stem and hung them up in my basement it works awsome all the leaves are slowly turning brown and look great! I Made a few cig's and they tasted suprisingly good. If you grew youre own post a comment on this page and say what type it was and if it was good!

You Dont need a Cureing facility!

Just a day ago i was talkin to my friend and he said that when he was down south most of his friends who lived in the city would just hang the tobacco in the garage and let it sit for a while until it was brown and then smoke it right there. I Havent yet been able to try this because my plants are just now medium height but if anyone tries it please leave a comment and tell me how it worked.

Start by sprinkling the tobacco seeds onto the surface of seed starting mix and lightly water in. Do not cover the seed with any soil as they need light for germination and covering can slow down germination time or if covered too deeply by dirt the seed won't germinate at all, watering in lightly is all that is needed. Use a Mist Spray The best method for the beggining. I used the Burpee Growing System So you never have to water it. Sun Curing

Oriental tobaccos are sun-cured. No barn, nothing but the sun! The tobacco goes out very yellow and keeps all its sugar content. It is generally a very short tobacco. Leaves are 2 or 3 inches large. The taste is sweet. This tobacco is used for blond cigarette, pipe and short filler cigars. The main producers are Greece, Turkey, and Bulgaria. Some Methods for Cureing

1.Age the tobacco leaves by allowing them to dry. This process allows the carotenoids in the leaf to oxidize and degrade, producing a smoother more aromatic flavor. There are primarily four methods to accomplish the aging of tobacco: air-curing, fire-curing, flue-curing and sun-curing.

Step 2. Air-cure tobacco by hanging the leaves in a ventilated barn until they have no sugar remaining. This usually occurs by the time they have turned a light to medium brown.

Step 3. Fire-cure tobacco by setting it out on racks over a wood-fueled fire. This method is used mostly for pipe blend tobacco because the type of wood used for the fire influences the flavor.

Step 4.Flue-cure tobacco by hanging it in a closed barn. Pipes from radiators or some other source supply controlled heat to the leaves until the starch is converted to sugar and the leaves turn yellow-orange.

Step 5. Sun-cure tobacco by setting it on racks in the sun for between 12 and 30 days. This method is similar to flue-curing and will produce a sweeter tobacco.-- Seems to be the Quickest and easiest if you have the room.
