Thankfulness and Hope – The call of the wild buffalo and the wild horses

I am reprinting a letter that originates from The Buffalo Field Campaign. The letter gives thanks for the few wild buffalo that still remain on public lands. The letter was written this time last year and was reprinted by TBFC in honor of the passing of Barb Abramo, an integral part of their long standing fight to save the wild buffalo.

This letter touched me deeply, especially today, Thanksgiving Day when this time last year Grass Roots Horse began to expand their work in the field for the wild horses who are very much under a similar attack from the same government agency. I have always felt a kinship to the honorable people that make up The Buffalo Field Campaign and held their commitment to what they treasure as an ideal to work towards.

The letter below exemplifies the hope that I want to keep in my heart, the hope that I need to keep in my heart, that both the wild buffalo, the wild horses and we the people will survive and thrive. I want to keep the hope that people will return to their state of “wild” too – “wild” meaning the state of independence. Where we can truly take care of ourselves and are free to choose and live a life that harms no one and we find peace.

I hope that you feel the same hope as you read this letter.

Letter From 2010 – The Buffalo Field Campaign

“We give thanks that there are still wild buffalo walking the Earth. Buffalo that still follow their migratory instincts and still carry the integral wisdom of the ancients that does not bend or bow to human fences, boundaries, or prejudice. We give thanks for the wild buffalo's instincts to simply place one foot in front of the other and walk the land, regardless of government plans; a drive so deeply rooted in their time before time that man's shallow greed has not yet taken this from them. We give thanks that buffalo still roam, confounding certain humans' selfishly inflicted consequences. We give thanks for the last remaining buffalo that found shelter in Yellowstone's remote Pelican Valley barely 150 years ago; the twenty-three that were all that was left of tens of millions, who ensured the survival and wild integrity of their prehistoric kind. We give thanks that buffalo have biologically withstood diseases brought by invasive cattle, their blood building resistance to the dark gifts from these bovine invaders. We give thanks that it is still possible to look into the eyes of a wild buffalo and remember a time we forgot we once knew, and dream of its return. We give thanks that the land cries out for the return of wild buffalo, welcoming their homecoming when the hearts of humans open to the drumming of the buffalos' foot steps, and the land is again shared, healed and whole with the presence of wild buffalo.

We give thanks for the abundance of snow that has been falling, snow that brings the life giving waters when the sun waxes and the rivers run fast and deep through the veins of the mountains and out to the sea. Bittersweet this gift, as the buffalo will also flow with the deepening snow, and this is as it should be, and though we know harm awaits them, we celebrate their life force and give thanks that they continue in their wild ways despite the obstacles. We give thanks for the persistence, resistance, and endurance of wild buffalo.

We give thanks for those who hear the call of the wild buffalo. We are grateful for the volunteers who come from around the globe to defend the buffalo, joining us for the first time, or coming back again year after year, or returning after an absence. We give thanks for everyone everywhere who cares about wild buffalo and celebrates their wildness and takes action for their right to roam. We give thanks to all of you who make it possible for us to be here standing with the last wild buffalo, bearing witness, sharing their story. We give thanks for the realization that long-term perseverance and passion-turned-action will bring the necessary change we all seek. We give thanks that the status quo that harms the buffalo and the land is an unsustainable and temporary thing in the grand theater of life on earth. We give thanks that there is still time to act, though the time is short, and act we must. We give thanks for the elders who guide us with experience and wisdom and for the flame of passion that burns within the hearts and minds of the youth; for the combined energy and power we hold in our hands to save us from ourselves, and learn to be more like the buffalo. We give thanks for the lessons the buffalo teach us about family, solidarity, fearlessness, abundance, resolve, gentle strength, coexistence, following our instincts without compromise, non-violence and the simplicity of the solutions right before our eyes. We give thanks for the hope and vision of a life for buffalo in which they thrive within their inherent wildness, for a world in which buffalo and all other native wildlife are given precedence on public land, and that buffalo herds will flourish as self-regulating sustainable populations, a rich and viable source for their future evolutionary potential and ambassador for the sovereignty of the land.

Hello. Who Are You……Really

I have to say I enjoy Twitter and Face Book immensely but I am finding my FB experience is marred by a disturbing trend. For those of us who mix our community service and advocacy in with our on line social lives we walk a challenging line.

A Genuine Connection

Since most of the people I interact with are as passionate about their advocacy and staying current with what is happening in the world as I am, it is not unusual to have FB friends share links and articles and things that are pertinent to the work we do in the course of our everyday lives.

These posts are alongside our Birthday wishes to each other and our garden photos. Through this I feel a genuine connection is made. I honor what people want to share with me and I feel honored to have it filter through my small page in cyberspace. We connect in good times and in bad.

If There Is Nothing To Hide, Why Hide

However, I have noticed an increase of new FB friends or FB friends in groups whose profile pictures, FB pages and photos are only "stock photos" and SPAM. They show no name or any indication who this person is. Along with those individuals who do not even use a name but a title of sorts that relates to the "cause of the day" are the people who are genuinely offering a friendship or a partnership in advocacy for a joint cause.

Months ago I closed my page to people other than friends which I felt really sad about. It used to be open to friends of friends which was alot of fun as we built what felt like a community. As the influx of the "friends" who don't share their names or real photos escalates it becomes apparant to me that because the pages they share only contain what I call industrial SPAM, my experience is diminished and a feelig of community suffers.

I'm an outgoing but private person. yet I put myself out there with honesty and with a thoughtfull respect for other people's time on social networks. For many it is their only leisure time and is rare. So when people don't show who they are and hide behind fake FB pages and then bombard me with posts that usually are to raise money for themselves, it insults me and it should insult you too.

I Appreciate the Opportunity to Be in a True Community

I am grateful when a fellow advocate, friend, family member or friend of a friend gives me the opportunity to help financially with their cause if I am able to do so. I want to know about their passions and I do what I can to network the information. When an unknown entity that does not even want to share their basic identity, or fills my timelines with an endless parade of the same posts pleading for money (SPAM of the worst kind) I draw the line. I cannot allow them the same space as those truly wanting a real connnection and an honest sharing of information.

I ask: be real, be present, show who you are. Join a true community and be as respectful of me as my intention is to be of you. Please don't hide behind a FB facade as a means to blast people or scam people without accountability. I have seen it on the comment sections of articles - many quirky names that are attached to the same person, and it is like watching Sybil as an advocate on steroids. Each different name has a different perspective, many nasty and they are all the same person. It dimminishes us all.

Spring Thaw

The farm is beginning to wake up. The signs have been sporadic but picking up steadily. A young duck family is swimming in the small pond, the sound of the peepers at night is getting louder and of course the horses and donkey are shedding.

I have the urge to open up space, find order in the gardens and find some balance again. The horses seriously need baths and the pale grey horses are as dark as the bay horse.

Snow and Ice – Repeat

The winter was a tough one. The frequent storms left a lot of snow and a lot of ice. I was stuck on the farm roads more than once and grateful for a husband who would show up with a shovel and a smile. After one ice storm in particular, my truck slid down the driveway and right into a deep snow bank. It was too icy to climb back up and when my husband came out to help dig my truck out the only way down the driveway was on his backside. He’s a good sport so even though it was just after sun up on a Sunday morning, he sat on the shovel like it was a sled and he was in the snow bank with me in a nano second.

I felt less guilty that I never got around to taking the burlap coffee bags out of the back of my truck since they were as useful for getting traction under my stuck tires as they were pretty in the garden as paths.

Winter and Wild Horses

The work wasn’t just in the barn keeping the horses and donkey happy and well or making sure my elderly neighbor was happy and well but the fight for the very lives of America’s wild horses and burros was a 24/7 job. My cell phone and laptop were on call round the clock and the stress was high.

I accomplished a goal I had set for myself which was to get the information, photos and videos from the obscure roundups out to the public in as close to real time as possible. With current information the public could use it to get help for the quickly disappearing wild horses. We got very fast at moving information and as soon as the info came to me, it went out to the public on the Grass Roots Horse blog (http://blog.grassrootshorse.com ) sometimes in the wee hours of the morning and oftentimes I posted several times a day. My mantra became “let us make it through Antelope” (Antelope was allegedly the last roundup until the roundup at “Triple B” which was scheduled for the peak of July heat in Nevada and the height of foaling season.) I made it through but I am forever changed and as the saying goes, “once you know, you can’t not know”.

Life will never be the same which is why my thoughts now are on finding a peaceful place for my mind to rest as I continue to fight for the wild horses and burros.

New Directions

Spring is welcome now. Dead wood is being removed in all parts of my life. The shrubs that suffered too much damage from the winter storms need whatever help we can give them. It’s time to cut back the ornamentals and uncover the pathways again. Clean the paddocks and repair the fences. Those are great things to do while my mind has space to connect the dots and see the patterns that need to be connected and uncovered so real change can happen for the wild horses and burros.

I have faith that the new direction that Grass Roots Horse is focusing on will bear fruit. New projects are opening up for me personally as well and the seeds of past creative projects are bearing fruit after being dormant.

Now if only the pear tree in the vegetable garden will bear fruit again……. stranger things have happened……

Report from Pine Nut Wild Horse Roundup #TWO

This mare, along with 111 other horses were rounded up yesterday in the Dayton area of the Pine Nut Range. This morning the Bureau of Land Management's plan was to release all the mares and leave all 22 foals behind. Foals were transported from the Lohanton temporary holding area to Palomino Valley Center. After public outrage plans were changed and the wet mares have been transported to Palomino Valley to match up with their foals for release early next week. Alan Bitner of the Carson BLM expressed his concern along with many community members about this mornings plan. He seemed relieved as he informed the public that the foals would not be permanently removed from their mothers. the mare before this one fell jumping off & this girl said I'm gonna make it Pine Nut while BLM says that is all the horses to be released, after they leave, another trailer shows up !

Report from Pine Nut Wild Horse Roundup VERY SERIOUS !

Last night word came that there would be no roundup of wild horses today. BLM claimed it was a day for treating the horses with fertility drugs and the public was not allowed, since the horses were very skittish. The Pine Nut horses by all accounts are quite accustomed to people as they are very popular among the people who live nearby. BLM stated that Friday would be a release day for the 122 horses they captured yesterday. HOWEVER, it is another BLM lie. Word came while I was on the phone with Laura that the BLM was releasing horses today ! She rushed out to be there. She arrived along with other reporters with no sign yet of the BLM. She called back within a short time with very disturbing news. There are 22 foals who were captured WHO WILL NOT BE RELEASED WITH THEIR MOTHERS. The BLM states they "cannot match the foals to their mares" and are not even going to attempt it. The foals have already been shipped to Palomino Valley facility.

This is an outrageous situation and please make calls to Mark Struble 775-885-6107 he is the person who has made this call and is responsible.

Laura will be sending me pictures as the situation unfolds. Please spread the word and make the calls.

Need Help in Arizona- this is what happens to ‘protected wild burros’

In a few short days, the government agency, Bureau of Land Management, for no explained reason will target exclusively wild burros in Arizona, Cibola-Trigo herd. The ancestors of the wild burros truly built America. If anyone knows burros or donkeys the horror of their fate at hands of contractor sadists will hit you hard, especially if you look at the three pictures at the end of this page. They, nor we, deserve this, and they offer no acceptable reason, no reasonable explanation and we are expected to foot the bill, again, for this massacre. I will not pay for government sanctioned animal torture and abuse. I will not.

Now we see clearer still why BLM fights so hard to keep citizens and journalists out of viewing range even though Grass Roots Horse/Laura Leigh as plaintiff won the legal challenge that we have a right to witness and report on our government in action.

We are not giving up, nor are we going away ! This is too important. Grass Roots Horse is the people. We are not a big entity intent on harvesting donor bucks to further self serving interests. Wild Horse and wild burro roundups must stop, public granted full access from roundup to long tern holding. Video cameras in all government and government contracted holding facilities. Government/BLM/DOI come clean on what is really slated for public lands and water rights.

GRASS ROOTS HORSE PRESS RELEASE Leigh v Salazar –July 31,2010

On July 30, 2010 Laura Leigh re-filed Contempt of Court charges against Ken Salazar, Secretary of the Department of the Interior, Bob Abbey, Director of the BLM and Ron Wenker, Nevada State Director of the BLM in regard to what BLM calls the “Tuscarora wild horse gather.” The BLM continually refers to the three herd management areas of Owyhee, Rock Creek and Little Humboldt under one umbrella name of Tuscarora. The judge, at the time of hearing earlier motions, recognized that Tuscarora was three herds and not one as BLM would like people to believe.

Adding to what seems like a deliberate move to create confusion, every day the gather schedules change. At present the BLM website, touted in BLM press releases as the only place for correct information, has two completely different gather schedules posted. If a person really wants to know the true schedule they have to contact the appropriate field offices. It would seem to even the casual observer to be a shell game of now you see it, now you don’t.

The judge denied the original motion to hear the case based on the parameters set forth in a statute known as the Winters standard. This is the standard by which actions seeking injunctive relief are judged on their merit. On July 28, 2010, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals modified its position on the test used to determine the element, “likelihood of success on the merits” when

granting or denying injunctive relief under the Winters decision. The circuit court reaffirmed the use of its sliding scale method, finding it consistent with Winters.

The law change opened the door for the re-filing under the new guidelines. “We are not going away,” said Laura Leigh, plaintiff in the lawsuit brought about through the support of Grass Roots Horse, a citizen action group. Support for Laura Leigh’s court action is coming in from people all over the country. “Some people are donating to further the cause with $3.00 donations,” said Maureen VanDerStad, member of Grass Roots Horse. “That tells it all right there. People are so fed up with the mismanagement of the wild horses and burros that they want to be a part of doing something to stop it. The blatant disregard for our First Amendment rights by BLM and the cruel and inhumane treatment of the wild horses, which belong to the American people, has spurred the movement on with a vengeance,” she further states.

Laura Leigh is an artist, author and journalist who is best known for her work in documenting wild horses. She is the founder and director of Herd Watch, a citizen group that monitors the actions of the BLM and the Wild Horse and Burro Program. Full reports documenting range conditions in herd management areas and the condition of the horses themselves are conducted by Herd Watch with a meticulous eye for detail.

Yesterday at the Nevada State Legislative meeting, the main focus was on the implications of the Western Watershed Organization’s multi-million dollar settlement with Ruby Corporaton, representing Ruby Pipeline. The Wild Horse and Burro Program came into the discussion and Laura Leigh was there to set the record straight. “Sitting in the audience it was really interesting to see the cattlemen bringing up the very same issues of the difficulties of dealing with the BLM that the wild horse advocates have been dealing with for years. If people do not support accountability in government, it is easy to see how that failure to demand accountability and transparency can turn against them,” Laura Leigh said.

Senator Reid Has Power to Stop Wild Horse Removal- tell his supporter Carole King- Idaho Wild Horse Advocate Rally- Hey Harry !

Good evening folks -attached is the map for our HEY HARRY RALLY - where we remind Senator Reid that has the power to stop the BLM's removal of the Wild Mustangs.

He has that power but he choses not to use it. In fact the infamous Senator Burns still claims Harry and he wrote the amendment in Harry's office - the amendment that gutted the 1971 Free-Roaming Wild Horse and Burro Act. And Burns doesn't have much to gain by claiming that Harry instigated it. Burns lost his senate seat, Harry denied he was in on the amendment.

I used to believe Harry but not now; not as he stands back and pretends to work with Madeline Pickens and she says no he won't. So we need Harry's supporter Carole King - yes that Carole King - to know it. Carole is an ardent supporter of the Idaho Mustangs. She could stop raising money for Harry until he cancels congressional support for the arrogant actions of the BLM. But it is about as hard getting that message through to Carole - even on facebook - as it is difficult to get through to Harry when you are looking him right in the eye.

So we will be out with special posters, when Carole kicks off 'A VOLUNTEER DAY OF ACTION AT THE SUMMERLIN OFFICE HEADQUARTERS". Now either she doesn't know Harry like we know Harry (try working with his staff to get ecotourism and wild horse/burro preservation) or Carole is naive. We will make this a throwdown to Senator Reid - either you help end the outrageous roundups or you don't get votes from horse huggers. Like us.

So come on out at 9am to 11am tomorrow, Saturday July 17 at 810 South Durango, at the parking lot of a little office complex corner of Durango and Grandbank - that's south of Alta and north of Charleston. You might want to wear a hat and bring water. Wear red clothes if you can for the blood that will be spilled Saturday as the BLM rounds up 500 horses "to save them dying of thirst" as they told the judge Thursday in Reno.

Tuscarora Wild Horse Lawsuit-July 16, 2010

There are so many things to be very happy about in this case so far. This judge is listening to us, he read all of the testimonies and actually understood that while BLM wanted him to believe that Tuscarora was one round up it was actually three roundups- judge understood that, which is why we still will have hearings on the Rock Creek and Little Humboldt.

The judge is allowing BLM to roundup the Owyhee horses because he believed their testimony that the horses would die. He does not want horse deaths on his hands. I would say that bodes very well for any roundups in foaling season. The judge is unfamiliar with the issue or BLM’s penchant for lying so he believed them.

So even though a so called ‘emergency’ roundup of the Owyhee horses is allowed, we cannot forget the superstar win, which is the upholding of our First Amendment right to witness and document what the government does to our horses on our public land.

The judge ruled the public cannot be denied although it can be limited in numbers. He ruled they cannot black out the area. That is a huge victory. It is the chink in the armor, the first of many to come.

Also with the right to document the roundups comes the opportunity to prove that the BLM lied.

There will be TRO hearings for Rock Creek and Little Humboldt herd areas coming up shortly.

Hopefully with witnesses and cameras on the Owyhee roundup, possibly no horses will die. The judge has left many doors open for us to set additional precedents.

This is a momentous day. More will follow. Tonight I will drink to the Tuscarora wild horses who have died as a direct result of the arrogance and disregard for life and law by the Bureau of Land Management and their contractors who do their evil with them and enjoy the suffering they create.

Tonight I drink to the Tuscarora Twelve. Long may they live.

Grass Roots Activism Takes a Stand

Many people have asked me how this grassroots supported lawsuit to stop the Tuscarora roundup in Nevada cam about.

I would like to share that and say this is just the beginning.

Geographical location is not a hindrance to making a difference in the fight to save our wild horses. I took action right from kitchen counter.

Last week, when it came to my attention that no lawsuits were being filed to stop the Tuscarora roundup ( I just can’t call it a gather) grassroots activism took a stand. Through networking, regular people were able to bring a lawsuit to stop the Tuscarora roundup and to make an argument that our First Amendment Rights are being violated by barring the public from witnessing and documenting what the government was doing to the horses on our public lands. The argument that really got me fired up was the one that the BLM would be rounding up during foaling season.

Many newborn horses and pregnant and nursing mares would be stampeded along with the others. Babies and young horses who could not keep up would be left to die in the desert as the helicopters stampeded their mothers onward to capture pens.

All the horses would be driven over razor sharp volcanic rock.

As if what is being done to all our wild horses isn’t bad enough, this was too much to bear.

In record time we hired our own attorney to bring the suit with Laura Leigh, as a plaintiff with standing. Within 24 hours the papers were filed.

Through word of mouth, social networking sites, such as FaceBook and Twitter, we began to raise money for legal fees. People from all over the country who may have been less than pleased with the legal representation in the Calico case and the lack of lawsuits being brought to stop the roundups, joined forces by donating to our legal fund. By being a grass roots group of individuals we are free to move fast, to keep our hands on the case and ensure that lawsuits are being brought on arguments that will win. It is a time for action. The goal is to challenge the BLM on every roundup from here on in. We have access to the expertise of the people who know the wild horse issue inside and out, are on the ground with eyewitness accounts. We have now and will always be sure to have legal representation that cannot be bought, co-opted or swayed from presenting the best case possible for our wild horses.

Please join us. We are receiving no financial help from big organizations, and this is to our advantage for the above reasons. We need funds to finish the Tuscarora case. The courts and congress are the only things that can stop the BLM from doing this to our horses. Congress won’t listen until we are successful in the courts. Our cases are good, really good, we have a shot at stopping this runaway train that is the BLM.

We have what may seem an ambitious goal but it is do able. Raising $100,000 would ensure we fight all roundups. We have to give it a shot. Any help you can give will ensure the fight continues. Energy tapping is a powerful tool for good. My first exposure to energy tapping was through a sports psychologist. If you happen to find yourself at any sports competitions, observe closely and you will find there are people tucked away in quiet corners tapping away. I found it to be so useful in many areas of life.

There is EFT, TFT, and Freedom Now as far as I can recall. There are short forms, long forms and variations. All have their place and I speak from experience when I say they are all effective.

For our purposes in #MustangMedicine I think the short form will be perfect and you may like an even shorter form I worked with during a wonderful session with @Jenuinehealing

If individuals are feeling it is not sufficient than further exploration of the long form and additional techniques may prove the key.

While it may seem on the surface that wild horses and their advocates are hitting brick walls, I have to say since joining forces in this way I am feeling the most peaceful, powerful and in control as I ever have in an out of control situation. I feel things changing on an energetic level and I am drawn to continue and expand upon it. America’s wild horses and the land they live on are too important.

I keep reminding myself that I cannot see what is happening behind the scenes and behind closed doors. I don’t know what the bigger plan is. Often times in my life when I was convinced of the way I wanted things to work out, a better way emerged when I allowed it to. Tapping helped. Clearing the way for good things to happen for the wild horses and the people who care so much about their significance in what is happening in our world and in our lives.

This past week especially I have had to remind myself of that in regard to what is happening to America’s beloved wild horses at the hands of the government and some people. The lawsuit pending in federal court that would free the captured wild horses, at least those who have lived through their ordeal, was dismissed on a technicality. There were, in addition, some things that seemed pretty fishy and outright illegal, were popping up around the lawsuit ruling as well.

In light of these things it is important to use #MustangMedicine to its fullest. Wild horses are tough and they are tuned in. They are a shining example.

Much information is found on the web about energy tapping, here is a brief guide to the areas that you tap on and how to do it. You can’t go wrong.

I always begin with 2 things:

1 - I rate my discomfort on a scale of 1-10. How much discomfort do I have with this issue/statement/affirmation. Give it a number.

2 - I rub the area over my heart in a circular motion and say “even though I (state problem/issue), I deeply and completely love and accept myself” and then end with what is called a karate chop- which is tapping the sides of both side of your hands, palm side up on the pinky side. If ever you feel discomfort, this single move will help a great deal.

Then I would do the short form (or long form of tapping or a new really simple version.) see sequences

Below are some ideas for examples of what you might say- be very freestyle and you‘ll be surprised at what happens. Things that may be blocking you will be begin to come up.

The Very Short Form- Tap on the top of your head and tap over your heart. While doing this you say positive statement or releasing statement. Such as- I release the suffering of the wild horses…..I release my need for control of the situation facing the wild horses or my favorite- I choose to see that there is a positive outcome for the wild horses.

Regular Short Form: Tap on top of the head, above eyebrow-either one, side of the eye, under the eye, under the nose, the chin, the collarbone, under the arm. All the while you are tapping you are talking about the issue.

Other Examples -Such as – even though I hate the govt for what they are doing to our wild horses, I deeply and completely love and accept myself. Even though I feel powerless……even though I feel angry…..even though I feel scared…….whatever you are feeling and work through it while tapping.

This is great for all areas of life and maybe the wild horses are bringing you there to be healed and freed.

They are freedom and power personified as well as how to live in harmony, which is exemplified in how they live in community.

When you are finished- Then rate how you feel on a scale of 1-10 and see if it has changed.

The idea is to free up emotions from a space and make room for change in the situation.

For our purposes the long form would be too involved but I encourage everyone to learn it.

Try tapping or at least the heart rub and karate chop and you will be amazed at what they can do.

I thought it would be nice to begin the first #MustangMedicine group meeting with something very special.

I would like to share two techniques which I believe can help us to send our love and positive thoughts to the wild horses, and to anyone involved with the horses and burros. The techniques will also help us open a line of communication from the wild horses to us and gain their wisdom to help us in our lives.

The techniques are valuable tools that can be used in any aspect of your life and possibly the situation that wild horses are facing reminds you of an area in your life that needs love and healing. The horses are our close allies and they are here to help us as well.

Then I would like to finish with any experiences that anyone would like to share on the vision quest I had written. I have heard from several people who had profound experiences with it. I reposted the vision quest at the bottom of this page for convenience.

The first technique is opening the healing channel of compassion called heartlink to Angels and human heartlink. I learned the first one about 6 years ago. The second is a technique I learned about 17 years ago and is called the Golden Staircase. Both techniques have been of great help to me.

Heartlink to Angels

Opening the Healing Channel of Compassion

Heartlinks are a divine offering from Angel Ariel to humankind. A heartlink is an energy cord or channel that we establish between our heart center and the heart center of another. Heartlinks serve as a tool that fill us to the overflowing with integrated energy (the angel energy of compassion), and we then share this energy with others. There are two types of heartlinks, angelic and human.

An angelic heartlink is an energy cord we send vertically from our heart up through our throat, third eye and crown chakras, to connect with the heart of our angel of healing. Just follow this simple 5 step procedure to establish your heartlink

1. Bring your awareness to your heart center

2. In the way that is perfect and right for you, offer a prayer of gratitude to your higher power and to your angel of healing.

3. Project a golden energy cord from your heart up through your throat, third eye and crown chakra and up into the highest realms of the universe with the intent of connecting to the heart of your own angel of healing.

4. Start the flow of energy in the heartlink by sending the energy of love and gratitude up the heartlink to your angel.

Open your heart, and take in the love that your angel is sending to you. Your angel’s love will be ten times stronger than the love you sent. Bring the love into your heart, and let it continue to build until you feel the energy overflow.

Automatic Activation: Once you have performed these 5 steps, they will be instantly performed by your subconscious mind each time you touch your thumb to the middle finger of either hand.

Human Heartlink

A human heartlink is an energy connection that you establish with a human (animal) soul. The soul can be in the physical body or the realm of spirit. The steps to establish a human heartlink are as follows:

1. Establish an angelic heartlink

2. Bring to mind an image of the being to whom you are creating a human heartlink

3. Send forth a golden energy cord from your heart to their heart.

4. Start the flow of energy in the heartlink by sending the energy of love and gratititude from your heart over the heartlink to their soul.

Let the energy continue to flow down from your angelic heartlink, through your heart and through your human heartlink.

Golden Staircase

In this technique you visualize yourself at the bottom of a tall golden staircase. You ascend the steps of the golden stairs and at the top of the stairs there is a door. You open the door and see the person or being you wish to communicate with. You then speak with them, sharing your thoughts and feelings. It is as my dad used to say, heart speaks to heart. And it is a great was to communicate with someone when they are at a distance.

Vision Quest

The air is cool and clear as you set out on the path. It meanders along ancient stone walls and as you walk along the grass carpeted path you feel a sense of purpose. You are relaxed and calm but energized.

The twigs and fallen leaves crunch under your feet in a rhythmic cadence. You hear all the sounds of nature and with each step you feel more and more connected to your source.

The path leads past rivers and waterfalls and opens up in a vast meadow. As you cross the meadow you notice all the birds and animals peacefully co existing with you. You become aware that you can see each and every blade of grass moving.

You hear wild horses in the distance and are eager to follow where they are leading. They take you to the edge of the meadow and you are now in a beautiful desert with skies of golden orange and clouds that seem to breathe with the earth.

In the distance you see a faint campfire and are drawn to it. The wild horses are leading you to the campfire. As you get closer you see there is a man sitting at the fire. He is surrounded by books and legal pads. He seems relaxed but engaged in deep thought. As you approach he sees you and smiles, genuinely happy to see you. He stands and introduces himself to you – he will be hearing the legal case on the Calico Complex wild horses.

He invites you to join him and recognizing you as someone who has understanding of the situation, he asks you to share your thoughts with him, so may have a better understanding.

You share with him all your experiences with wild horses. You share any and all experiences that you feel will help him make a wise, and if need be, a courageous decision in the case.

There is all the time in the world for this exchange. He is listening and cares what you are saying. He offers to share with you what he has written in his notes.

You take time to listen to what he is sharing with you.

When you feel the time is right you rise to leave. He rises with you and you exchange a handshake or an embrace, with heartfelt gratitude that he has listened and shared.

You take a moment or two to share your strength, courage and wisdom with him as he does with you. As you leave for home, he sits again beside the fire and takes up his books. The wild horses rejoin you.

A nice addition to the vision quest could be to burn some sage which is a familiar smell to wild horses.

This is a note I received from a fellow equine advocate and I think it is a wonderful idea. For those who may not know this bill, HR 503 would amend the Horse Protection Act to prohibit shipping, transporting, moving, delivering, receiving, possessing, purchasing, selling or donation of horse or other equines to be slaughtered for human consumption and for other purposes.

We need to let our voices be heard to move this along.

I would like to share a letter from Klaus Ferdinand Hempfling that explains so much about horses and man.

In the past of human beings horses

have always been a symbol of how each individual deals with the world, with its challenges and threats.

Formerly humans were together with horses, to be able to understand and deal with life in a better way.

All the mechanisms which the humans have created in modern times, were actually supposed to help. But it now becomes more and more obvious, how they are, in their own dynamic, turning against the humans – almost like an inevitable natural disaster. How vulnerable it has all become. A tiny country in Europe, actually of minor commercial importance, is facing national bankruptcy but the real threats are the ‘markets’, which are just about to ‘crack’ and eat up one of the strongest currencies on the globe – with profits of milliards for the global gamblers. Governments appear powerless.

A small cloud of ashes in the air paralyses the air traffic, today centre point of many areas of communication and trading. How immense are the threats. Unbelievable amounts of oil flow out in the Golf of Mexico and an environmental disaster of unforeseen dimensions is threatening. Technique, business, trading – the humans’ instruments are out of control. With unforeseen consequences for each individual, for nature and for humanity as such.

We are concerned with the horse – but the horse is concerned with the world. And that is the only reason at all why I personally went to the horses. It was told about one of the ancient Kings, that he was unable to rule his country, because he was not even able to handle his horse. At the end of the day a human always stands completely alone in front of a horse, in front of destiny or in front of the tremors of the world. And somehow that is, so our forefathers said, one and the same thing anyway. And the tremors of the world are meanwhile threatening to take on giant dimensions.

To mature and become a man, a boy of the Maasai people must kill a lion with bare hands. Many die in doing so, because they rely on their outer strength. Only he, who discovers and develops his inner strength and builds up on this, may accomplish the impossible. In the future, more and more, the absolute impossible will be expected from all of us. The signs are more than obvious – and isn’t it about time to ask how one should and could prepare for this? That might also be the reason why the theme ‘Horse’ is so present in the world in these times. For one, the horse is the devil’s foot. But for the other, it serves as reminder of that, which really counts; the essentials. And that is my focus, when I talk about horses. And that is the focus of the ancient sources of the world. They all recognized the horse as the main symbol of human freedom as such and as the symbol of the creative power and possibilities of each individual. And here lies the focus in the future.

In the light of the circumstances in the world I couldn’t leave it to remind of this once again. And I will continue doing so.

As I move along my personal journey amidst the energy that is with wild horses and the earth, I am remembering all the modalities of healing and atunement that I have learned and that have meant a great deal to me. Horses, wild and domestic have always been the conduit for me in terms of personal growth and service. By the amount of incredible people reaching out to me on this issue with amazing loving and grace, I am moved to organize and develop what I will call #MustangMedicine.

I learned a few years ago through specific instances in my life with horses that horses are not victims and are in fact our greatest allies and teachers. The following quote by Henry Beston expresses my sentiments with crystal clear clarity.

We need another and a wiser and perhaps a more mystical concept of animals. Remote from universal nature, and living by complicated artifice, man in civilization surveys the creature through the glass of his knowledge and sees thereby a feather magnified and the whole image in distortion. We patronize them for their incompleteness, for their tragic fate of having taken form so far below ourselves. And therein we err, and greatly err. For the animal shall not be measured by man. In a world older and more complete than ours they move finished and complete, gifted with extensions of the senses we have lost or never attained, living by voices we shall never hear. They are not brethren, they are not underlings; they are other nations, caught with ourselves in the net of life and time, fellow prisoners of the splendor and travail of the earth.

My beIief is that by using #MustangMedicine to explore all the wonderful healing modalities in the context of earth, animals, and importantly the wild horse issue we may begin to understand their true meaning and purpose.

This in no way should detract from #WildHorseHealing but is a separate avenue to understand and incorporate the wonderful gift the horses are sharing with us. It can be an adjunct for those who desire.

There are so many options to us in this arena that we do justice to the best part of ourselves as human beings and to the gifts we have in our lives. I am excited by the infinite possibilities.

#WildHorseHealing Vision Quest/Meditation

As I am preparing myself for our second #wildhorsehealing meeting on tweetchat, I feel it would be a good time to clarify some of my thoughts on this next installment.

This type of energy work focused within a group is very powerful and as such needs to be treated with the utmost integrity and positive intention.

It is always better to open up the channels of love and understanding without trying to influence others free will. To do so would be a form of manipulation and any misuse of energy, even if it is done innocently will be returned.

It is important to not pray to sway others but to open channels with love and understanding, so the best possible outcome for all concerned will be achieved.

I have included a meditation I would like to share with you. It came to me as I was sharing space with my equines. Please feel free to use this as a guide or a jumping off point for your own vision quest. A nice addition may be to burn some sage as this is native to the wild horse’s home ranges.

Feel free to do your meditation/vision quest at any time that is convenient. Prior to the tweetchat meeting, try to take some time to center yourself and tune into the group. Always ask for personal protection when entering into an energetic space.

Meditation/Vision Quest

The twigs and fallen leaves crunch under your feet in a rhythmic cadence. You hear all the sounds of nature and with each step you feel more and more connected to your source.

You hear wild horses in the distance and are eager to follow where they are leading. They take you to the edge of the meadow and as if by magic, you are now in a beautiful desert with skies of golden orange and clouds that seem to breathe with the earth.

In the distance you see a faint campfire and are drawn to it. The wild horses are leading you to the campfire. As you get closer you see there is a man sitting by the fire. He is surrounded by books and legal pads. He seems relaxed but engaged in deep thought. As you approach he sees you and smiles, genuinely happy to see you. He stands and introduces himself to you – he will be hearing the legal case on the Calico Complex wild horses.

He invites you to join him and recognizing you as someone who has understanding of the situation, he asks you to share your thoughts with him, so he may have a better understanding.

You share with him all your experiences with wild horses. You share any and all experiences that you feel will help him make a wise, and if need be, a courageous decision in the case.

There is all the time in the world for this exchange. He is listening and cares what you are saying. He offers to share with you what he has written in his notes.

You take time to listen to what he is sharing with you.

When you feel the time is right you rise to leave. He rises with you and you exchange a handshake or an embrace, with heartfelt gratitude that he has listened and shared.

With the ruling on the lawsuit regarding the Calico Complex, Nevada wild horses due no later than May 25^th we should think about beginning to surround the judges deliberations with our positive loving thoughts for a ruling that is in the best interests of all concerned in the situation. Many will be effected by his verdict in this case.

Since it is best not to try to directly influence anyone when working on an energetic level, as this is a violation of someone else’s free will, I would like to share some of my thoughts.

If we each mediate on what our experiences with the wild horses and what the experiences mean to us we can open up a line of communication with Judge Friedman so he can feel and understand aspects of the situation that he may not otherwise understand.

By meditating on and then sharing our feelings and thoughts on the wild horses, their home ranges, our public lands and what is happening to those formerly free horses now in captivity we can open a pathway of communication that will enable Judge Friedman to rule with courage, honesty and understanding.

The idea behind this wild horse healing session will be that through our meditation/healing we share fully with the judge what the situation means to us and by doing so we bring a fuller experience of the situation to the judge so he can make a fair decision.

A possible meditation can take the form of a conversation between your higher self and another’s higher self, an exchange of ideas, thoughts and feelings.

A river flows both ways. We can allow ourselves to be open to gaining new understanding into aspects of the situation we may need to understand.

Sometimes I like to think of having a conversation with someone’s guardian angel.

More will follow on a specific meditation since some find that helpful but by beginning to think about these things may be of help in opening up the flow of energy to this next meditation/healing.

The overall concept is that as people are focusing loving energy on the wild horses, they are indeed sending healing energy to the situation.

By reaching out to one another and focusing loving energy on the wild horses and their current plight, we will be working to heal the deep wounds thousands of mustang families have suffered at the hands of the BLM and other vested interests.

We will ‘meet’ there each Monday at the focus of our energetic intention will change as the situation evolves.

Group distance healing has a tremendous ability to bring blessings to those in need. It is not necessary for you to be a trained energy healer. All that is required are your loving thoughts focused on the horses and hope for their future. Intention is everything. As you meditate, think of sending healing love and the horses will receive it. The combined power of our group's positive intentions will be inspiring and will only become more vibrant as more people pray and meditate on the peace and freedom these magnificent wild horses and burros deserve. The effect of our prayers will multiply as more and more souls join our #WildHorseHealing group.

Prior to joining the group discussion on Twitter, please set aside 15 minutes (more if you like) to meditate on the wild horses: those "gathered" into captivity in holding pens, those adopted out and living in unfamiliar surroundings, those still running free with their families, those who have been separated from their herds... all wild horses everywhere. Please feel free to use the following script, to write your own or simply to meditate freely. It may help you to record yourself slowly reading the script and then play it back to guide your meditation or prayer process. MUSTANG MEDITATION script:

Close your eyes and breathe deeply. Take three deep breaths. In through your nose and out through your mouth.

Clear your mind and be present. Begin to feel yourself relaxing into the moment.

Feel the green of the earth reach up through the bottoms of your feet, connecting you to the natural world. The vibrant green energy of Mother Earth fills you, surrounding and relaxing each cell of your body as it travels up through your legs to your heart.

From above, feel the brilliant blue of the sky and Higher Power dropping down through the top of your head and behind your eyes and into your throat, merging with the green earth energy at your heart.

Swirling together in your heart, the vibrant green and brilliant blue become brighter and brighter until you cannot distinguish them and the light from your heart is blinding. Silver white light expands your heart and fills your whole body from the top of your head to the tips of your fingers and toes. That bright light is the pure love in your heart, growing stronger and stronger. This is your healing energy. The truest expression of healing energy is love and compassion.

As this light grows brighter and brighter within you, the walls of the room fall away, the floor dissolves into the earth and you are outside. Walking in a meadow. Tall grasses grazing your legs as you move out into this beautiful open space. Wildflowers just beginning to bloom.

The air is fresh and cool and damp with dew. The sun is low in the sky, gently warming the horizon. In the distance, you hear a whinny. A soft blowing neigh from a mare calling her foal closer. You cannot see the horses but you smell them faintly and know they are not far.

Walking deeper into the meadow, you feel the land undulating into foothills dotted with trees. And you hear the whinny again. That soft sound almost like a sneeze. Almost like the leaves of the trees rustling in the wind. Such a gentle noise could easily be mistaken but it calls you and you feel sure the horses are near. You follow the sound of the mare talking to her foal, gathering her family closer.

As you rise up into the hills, you take some time to appreciate the grandeur of your surroundings. There are no other people. The space goes on seemingly forever. The sky is as wide and endless as you can imagine. The smell in the air is so crisp but also so familiar and comforting. The feel of the rough grasses tickles your feet as you continue to walk.

And then you see him: a mustang stallion alone on the rise of a distant hill. His black mane is backlit by sun as he shakes his head and arches his neck. His profile is unmistakably regal and his protective stance makes his intentions clear. His family grazes behind him. Will he welcome you? You take your time now, admiring his beauty, his freedom, his nobility. And you treasure this moment, totally alone, observing the definition of wild peace.

Take some time to listen to the stallion and learn from him. He has gifts to share that are just for you. Learn his secrets.

After awhile, the stallion turns and you understand that you can follow. He is leading you to his herd. You are welcome here. This fills your heart with humble pride. You are deeply touched.

You follow the stallion, walking in his steps, feeling the heat left behind in his hoofprints and the stories his hooves have to tell. He shakes his mane and steps aside to reveal the whole herd. Large and healthy, this wild herd has horses of every color, size, age and character. You marvel at their beauty and the way they welcome you, surrounding you with their warm flanks and flicking tails.

One of the horses reaches out to you, touching your hand with his or her muzzle. Spend time with this mustang, learning who he or she is and what message he or she has for you. This wild horse has much to share with you and much to ask of you. Listen to what the wild horses need and how you can help them.

Share the healing you are carrying in your heart. Allow the bright white light in your heart to spread to all the horses, connecting your heart with theirs one by one until the whole hillside is suffused in brilliant silver light and the healing spreads across the country to wild horses everywhere.

Take your time sharing and experiencing the pure healing light.

When you are ready, say good-bye to the horses. The stallion escorts you down from the hillside as you take your leave of his band of wild beauties.

Eventually, the stallion must return to his family. He allows you to touch him now and you run your hand along his sleek, shining coat.

And then you are walking alone through the meadow again, feeling the grasses swaying against your legs. Taking one last deep breath of the sweet smell that permeates the wild horses' home.

Once again, you become aware of the room around you, the walls and floor and ceiling back in place. You return to your physical body, rolling your shoulders, stretching, wiggling your toes and your fingers.

When you are ready, open your eyes and remember the love the wild horses have shared and the passion you feel to help them stay forever free.

Unique Protest Rally in Nevada for Wild Horses

WHAT? DON'T TAKE MY BALLS!
                Las Vegans will rally in sympathy with the young stallions under 4 years of age that were painfully castrated last week by the BLM at the Fallon Nevada holding pens. If the BLM wins the federal lawsuit, they will castrate all the remaining mature stallions from the Calico roundup. The BLM has severely limited public access to the captive Calico horses despite public demands for transparency.
      We will hang bloody balls from lariats and circulate petitions asking President Obama to rein in the BLM, an outdated agency and friend of welfare cows.

WHY?   Castration is a way of wiping out the unique gene pool of the mustangs that have unique bloodlines and unique traits adapted to their specific area. Pictures of the castrated horses taken by Craig C. Downer appear below.

BACKGROUND? In January 2010, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) conducted a deadly roundup of 1922 wild horses from the CALICO MOUNTAINS COMPLEX in northwestern Nevada, despite a federal lawsuit underway to stop the roundups and the recommendation of the federal judge that BLM should NOT conduct a roundup in the dead of winter. The Calico horses were not starving and had not damaged the public range, meanwhile the BLM sharply increased the number of private cattle allowed to graze at subsidized cost on the horses' range. Stress and trauma lie behind the majority of the 86 wild horse deaths (to date) and 40 spontaneous abortions, a report issued today by the American Wild Horse Preservation Campaign (AWHPC) concludes. AWHPC notes the expense of the Calico roundup which will cost taxpayers at least $1.3 million through April, and $1 million a year to warehouse the non-adoptable horses over their 20+ year lifespans. This costly policy, which relies on expensive roundups every four years, is pursued while cost-effective, on-the-range management strategies are ignored.

The 15 mustangs abandoned in Florida have quite a history. More on that later but right now, we need help.

Homes are secured for all fifteen- yippe. Auction is tomorrow !

We have to go to auction and bid against kill buyers and homes known to be unfit- fined or arrests for either cruelty or neglect. Nice system huh ?

Anyway- Brogan Horton is on the ground in Florida, representing the twitter, FB, rescues & regular people who care enough to take action for these mustangs. And WE NEED YOUR HELP. The horses need you.

The mustangs had belonged to Larry Jones, well know mustang lover and advocate who believed everyone needed to step up and be responsible for saving these mustangs from what he believed was the government/BLM plan to destroy them. He was betrayed by an even closer enemy, his son.

He dedicated his life to saving the mustangs and any horse needing a home found one with him, for life. Sadly this great man believed his family’s word that they would carry on his work and care for his beloved mustangs, many of whom were sweet, gentle saddle horses. He was wrong. He died of cancer in February 2009 and soon after his son began abandoning the horses in different locations, in batches- there were 90 horse in Larry’s herd. He sold some to the rodeo for “wild horse stock”- a horrific end for these horses he so loved and cherished. He dumped others in state parks and along rivers.

Fiscal Costs of Federal Public Lands Livestock Grazing

The Government Accountability Office (GAO) has reported the federal government spends at

least $144 million each year managing private livestock grazing on federal public lands, but

collects only $21 million in grazing fees—

for a net loss of at least $123 million per year.1

•

The GAO reported that ten federal departments and agencies operate grazing programs

on federal public lands: Bureau of Land Management (BLM), USDA-Forest Service, D

National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Department of Energy, Bureau of

Reclamation, Army Corps of Engineers, the Army, Air Force, and Navy.

•

The GAO admits its report is incomplete because several agencies, including the

Natural Resources Conservation Service and the Environmental Protection Agency,

which spend millions of dollars mitigating for grazing damage such as non-point source

water pollution, did not provide estimates of their grazing related costs to the GAO.

Other programs that benefit both private and public lands ranchers, such as the

“Livestock Compensation Program,”

2 were also not included in the total subsidy to public

lands ranchers.

•

Considering the additional direct and indirect costs not included in the GAO report,

economists have estimated that the federal public lands grazing on only BLM and Forest

Service lands

may cost as much as $500 million to $1 billion annually.3

•

The majority of BLM and Forest Service grazing fees are not deposited to the U.S.

Treasury, but instead are

diverted to the "Range Betterment Fund" to pay for fencing,

water developments, and related infrastructure to support continued livestock grazing

(see below).

•

No report has ever fully analyzed the incredible environmental costs of livestock
grazing on federal public lands.

Federal Grazing Permit Loans

While taxpayers pay millions of dollars to subsidize livestock grazing on public lands, federal

grazing permittees and lessees are also allowed under dubious federal policy to collateralize

their grazing permits/leases to finance their public lands grazing operations. Both the Forest

Service

4 and the BLM5 sanction the use of publicly owned federal grazing permits and leases as

collateral for

private bank loans.

The BLM has documented more than $1.1 billion in liens on BLM grazing permits/leases

in the eleven western states.

♦

Approximately 300 ranch operations have taken more than $450 million in loans on

Forest Service grazing permits.

In Supreme Court documents, the State Bank of Southern Utah confirmed that financial

institutions hold an estimated $10 billion in loans and related credit transactions to the

public land ranching industry, with the grazing privileges alone worth approximately $1

billion.

Predator Control to Protect Livestock

Of the millions of dollars that taxpayers spend annually to subsidize public lands grazing, perhaps

is dedicated to killing “predators” to protect livestock grazing on federal lands.9 Native wildlife

killed to protect livestock include coyotes, bobcats, wolves, mountain lions, and bears.

Wildlife Services spent more than $61 million of federal funds to control wildlife in FY 2007; more than

$18 million was spent to protect “agriculture” (including livestock) from animal damage; of that

amount, $10,303,903 was spent in the eleven western states with the most federal public land and

federal public lands grazing.

Percent of Wildlife Services predator control budget spent to protect livestock on public lands: 75
percent.
