Used for centuries, candelabras were once bringers of light to homes and cathedrals. but with the advent of electricity, the candelabra was shamefully put aside. Nowadays, the soothing calm that a lit candle provides is more appreciated by today’s stressed generation, and a beautiful candelabra adorned by candles is all the more pleasing to the eye. Candelabras have since been an accent to modern décor, although most people view candelabras as more of an accessory for classic décor, however, the time warp that candelabras are putting people in doesn’t go too far in the past anymore. The use of Candelabras in modern décor has been a bit amusing as well as challenging especially with the classical designs that tend to be common among them, but with the advent of modern décor, it shouldn’t be too hard to find a candelabra that would suit your needs.

1. Types

When choosing candelabras, it is best to first decide on what type you’d want, as the type is really the initial factor that determines the use. There are basically two types of candelabra for the floor and for the table top, floor candelabras tend to be large and high while table candelabras are easy enough to hold in the hand. Floor candelabra can be for indoor or outdoor use while a table candelabrum is more for indoor accent or accessory use.

Floor candelabras have a tendency to evoke a church like feeling because of their height, however, there have been modern twists to the usual floor candelabra, and you can see this in the vast array of spiral candelabras. These are more contemporary and may be used in modern décor. Another common type of candelabra are hanging ones, those that are used in old cathedrals and churches, however, these can also be used as a classical touch to a dining table.

Fireplace candelabra may also be of use if you don’t want the hassle of lighting a fire in your fireplace, the fireplace candelabra will take care of both the look of a warm fire and the elegance of a stylish accessory. What’s more, you don’t have to use it only in the winter time, you can also use it during spring and summer as it doesn’t produce too much heat as a full fireplace.

2. Materials

Wrought Iron

- the most popular
- the most durable
- flexible enough to fit into any type of décor
- very easy to clean
- lasts a long time and might even look better with rust!

Pewter, Brass, Silver

- brass does give off a nice color
- not exactly a durable material
- popular symbol of sophistication
- requires a lot of maintenance
- metal tarnishes in time

Porcelain, Marble

- brittle
- are easier to clean than metal
- does not tarnish
- might chip
- more of a classical feel

Glass, crystal

- more elegant
- contemporary
- available in vibrant colors
- perfect for weddings and other celebratory occasions

Kinds of Candles

When you’re buying candelabra you should also consider the types of candles that you are ready to use, tea lights, thin long candles, short fat candles, scented, etc. Candelabras are measured for certain kinds of candles and should be used with the right sized one. Usually, modern décor accepts wider shorter candles, whilst traditional embraces the long thin ones.

3. Décor

Finally, the candelabra you bought should match your décor. You don’t have to necessarily buy a floral candelabra if you have floral décor, just make sure that it doesn’t come out of place in the room.

There are at least fifteen major brands promoting air purifiers. Below you will find condensed air purifier reviews for four of the most popular brands:

Oreck Air Purifiers

The Oreck Super Air 8 Air Purifier uses four different technologies to clear your air. The pre-filter catches large particles such as dust and pollen. The charcoal filter captures some of the smaller particles and chemicals that irritate the eyes and throat. Then the electrostatic precipitator electronically charges small particles with a negative ion, and immediately a collector plate magnetically grips the charged particles. Simultaneously, the Oreck air purifier generates negative ions and sends them out into the air, causing pollutants to drop right out of the air.

Ionic Breeze Air Purifiers

The Sharper Image Ionic Breeze GP uses a combination of electrostatic precipitator, negative ion generator, and an ultraviolet light. The ultraviolet light is a new improvement to the unit, which works to kill bacteria and viruses. The Ionic Breeze air purifier generates high amounts of harmful ozone, so make sure you place the unit at least two to ten feet away from your bed and furniture.

Hunter Air Purifiers

The Hunter Quietflo 3400 and the Hunter HEPAtech 30375 both use a carbon prefilter to capture large air pollutants. They both come equipped with a “Change Filter” light to minimize guesswork. Either can be operated manually or set on a timer. The 30375 includes a built-in ion generator.

Austin Air Purifiers

Austin Air offers five types of air purifiers. They come in two sizes: 15 pounds (the 400 series) and 6 pounds (the 200 series). They use a carbon and zeolite prefilter in combination with a HEPA filter. It is a sturdy-looking machine made of metal, for those who are sensitive to the smell of plastic.

Iris
Varieties good for cutting are magnolias, the luxurious waxy flowers are all beautiful for cutting. M.denudata is one of my favorites, once established you will get a dense covering of natural white super fragrant flowers.

Cultivation tips for magnolias, they need shelter from strong winds and like the sun, but can tolerate partial shade, soil ph should be neutral, the soil needs to be deep and must have good water retention, but not spongy. Best time to plant is in late spring

Cardamine
Varieties that are very good for picking from early spring are C.pratensis, the subtle pink shades of the cuckoo flower mix beautifully with bluebells. These splendid flowers grow naturally but I prefer to grow my own.

Cardamine cultivation, they just love the sun but can also thrive in semi-shade. They can tolerate a wide range of Soil ph (Acidic through to Alkali) but the soil must be moist or wet. Propagations tips, propagate from seed in spring or by division in autumn.

Pulsatilla
Varieties good for cutting are P.vulgaris or P.vernalis. These amazing pasque flowers are very exotic and have a sexy purple coloring, there are of course other colors available, but I prefer the purple.

Cultivation, they need the sun and can be slightly temperamental in shade conditions, the soil needs to be well drained calcareous (containing chalk). Propagate from root cutting in winter or fresh seed in late spring.

Arctotis Fastuosa – monarch of the veldt
Varieties that are good for cutting are the Vendidium fastuosum. This bright orange daisy with black markings on the petals and a chocolate center is one of my favorites, this variety lasts about twice as long in water as a marigold
Conditioning, strip off the bottom leaves. Cultivation, grow them in super drained sandy soil in non shady conditions.

Unlike goose down where there are tons available in the world, there are only a few thousand pounds of Eiderdown produced each year. This wild bird from far northern regions like Iceland, Canada and Scotland lines the nest with the down, the soft undercoating from the breast. When the nest has been abandoned the down is harvested and cleaned. Eiderdown today comes from farms where the birds are protected. Due to recent popularity of Eiderdown, it is in short supply and so the price has increased significantly.

The Eider duck lives in a very cold climate and so the down clusters have powerful thermal properties. An Eiderdown comforter is super lightweight yet can keep you toasty warm in winter, with the windows open. It is also cool and comfortable in summer. The ultra breathable Swiss cotton batiste is woven especially for Eiderdown and is incredibly light and silky soft. An Eiderdown pillow is soft, but medium can be achieved by using an inner core of premium goose down, or you can use all Eiderdown, but this will be quite an expensive pillow.

For the fortunate few who are able to get Eiderdown, one night and they will understand all the buzz about Eiderdown, why it is incomparable to any other luxury down comforter or pillow. With proper care this exquisite bedding will last a lifetime and become a treasured heirloom.

At will you can finish bedroom walls with wood, cloth, veneer sheet or cork. Natural materials are distinguished by the characteristic structure and color, they do not have cheerless monotony and always look warm and lively, which is especially topical for creating comfort in the bedroom.
Partially the image of the bedroom is defined by color that dominates in its setting.

Blue or dark blue plunge you into the thoughts of coolness and sky space. Green tones are associated with spring, freshness, they favor relaxation, but their emotional restraint requires active support from warm colors. Beautiful combinations are made as a result of combining pale shades with rich, saturated color and light.

Yellow gamma is like sun rays, it warms and animates the room, but it is recommended that vast yellow surfaces are freshened with fragments of other saturated colors. It is better to soften orange by combining it with cool key of gray-blue or one can experiment with its pale shades. Red is considered “to cheer up”, but it is difficult to wake up in such a bedroom. It is better to use red colors as a light accent.

Violet is deep and expressive, especially in combination with mild yellow or green background. Ascetic black-and-white gamma is actively used in popular minimalist stylizations. But the best decision for bedroom is thought to be shades of white that remind of baked milk or soft gray that approaches the color of flax linen. Effective are combinations of light and dark, weak and saturated colors.

Textile plays the dominant role in the decorative finishing of the bedroom, even more so because cloth decorations are can be easily replaced at will. The chief textile topic of the bedroom is connected with finishing of the window and the bed. The surface of walls and floor in this case serves as background: monotonous walls harmonize with variegated cloths with saturated colors; patterned wallpapers or a gay carpet, conversely, match one-color textile. However, interesting can be also the decision, when textile and walls are covered with one pattern. Upon basically finishing the bedroom, one can proceed to curtains.

Usually they are made from soft, well-draped clothes. The ideal variant is curtains of medium thickness that disperse intense daylight and soften light contrasts. If the window is on the sunny side, it is better to complement light curtains with thick ones, small screen rollers or Venetian blinds. The shape and pattern of the curtains can change the proportions of the window and influence the geometry of the room.

A small embrasure in the spacious wall can be visually increased by means of covering the whole window wall with curtains. You should avoid using cloth with big pattern in a small bedroom with a great window opening, as this will even more diminish the room. While choosing cloth for curtains, you should also consider a bedspread and bed-clothes. The easiest thing is to make bed-spread from the same cloth, as the curtains, and bed-clothes – by one or two tones lighter. A more original decision is a complex combination of cloths with different patterns and various textures, which reflect light in a different way. Bed-clothes can be combined in the following way: a one-color sheet that matches the general coloring of the bedroom plus multicolored pillow-cases and blanket cover. Have you decided on the planning, style, materials, color and textile? The next stage is choosing the lighting.

It is better to avoid direct, open, collimated light in the bedroom, because it creates deep shadows. Disperse light can be achieved with the help of lamp-shades, plafonds from suffused glass or mosaics – it is the so-called general, orientating light. And finally, it is impossible to imagine a bedroom without accent lighting: table, wall and floor night-lamps, built-in or hung up in the head bed lamps. They calm down and tune in for sleep. These are some brief pieces of advice in design of “intimate space” of your house. Of course, advice is not a dogma, but it should be taken into the account, when you get to bedroom in your fantasies about repair-work.

If you’re seriously interested in knowing about Bulb Flowers, you need to think beyond the basics. This informative article takes a closer look at things you need to know about Bulb Flowers.

Once you begin to move beyond basic background information, you begin to realize that there’s more to Bulb Flowers than you may have first thought.

Just about every flower gardener will work with bulb plants at one time or another. Bulbs are loved by gardeners for the ease with which they grow, their hardiness and the fact that they can bloom again and again for many consecutive seasons without the need to replant. With all these advantages, it is no wonder that bulb plants are so popular among both new and experienced gardeners.

Choosing the right bulbs, however, is one thing that many beginning gardeners have trouble with. After you develop and eye and feel for finding the best bulbs, however, you will be able to spot them from across the garden center.

When choosing bulbs for your garden, it is important to choose the firmest and largest bulbs. The size of the bulb is important, since large bulbs are more likely to provide many blooms. The firmness of the bulb is a good indication of its health, and bulbs that are soft or mushy are unlikely to bloom. Bulbs are particularly susceptible to water damage. It is important to choose a bulb that is not to soft, but it is also important to look for cracks or scars. Bulbs with cracks or scars may have become too dry to bloom. Likewise, any bulbs that have begun to spout roots should be avoided, as they are unlikely to bloom properly once planted.

How bulbs are planted in the garden is important as well. Most bulbs are best planted in the fall, most commonly in early to mid October. The goal is to get the bulbs into the ground six weeks before the ground begins to freeze, so obviously the best time to plant will vary from location to location.

Bulbs should be planted in a well prepared soil, and the depth they should be planted will be determined by the type of bulb. For example, crocus bulbs are generally planted four inches deep, daffodil and hyacinth bulbs six inches deep and tulip bulbs at a depth of eight inches.

A simple gardening tool called a bulb planter is great for achieving a more uniform look to the blooming garden. Bulb planters can be used to easily prepare perfect looking rows of flowers. Those gardneres who prefer a more wild and freewheeling look, on the other hand, often dig a single hole and plant several bulbs in it. This approach can lead to spectacular, if somewhat unpredictable, patterns once the bulbs begin to bloom.

It is important to use a small amount of fertilizer at the bottom of each hole you dig when planting bulbs. The fertilizer should then be topped with a thin layer of soil, and the bulb carefully placed on top of the soil. It is important not to place the bulb directly on top of the fertilizer, as doing so could damage the bulb. Bulbs are always planted with the pointed end stick up and the flat, rooted side lying on top of the layer of soil. After the bulbs are in place, the rest of the hole should be filled with soil and the garden should be given a thorough watering.

Even though bulbs are among the hardiest of garden plants, there are a few important things to remember. One important technique to become familiar with is deadheading. The term deadheading should already be familiar to those gardeners who work with perennials. Deadheading is simply removing spent blooms in order to encourage more blossoms to develop. This process is important with bulb plants as well. When working with bulbs, however, it is important not to remove the leaves from the plants until the leaves have begun turning brown.

Taking care of the bulbs over the winter is important as well. In warmer climates, many bulbs can remain in the ground over winter. It is important, however, to remove tender bulbs such as dahlias, even in warmer climates. These bulbs should be stored over the winter in a cool, dry location.

When choosing new bedding there are some important things to consider. Egyptian Cotton is a great choice to make and here is why.

Why 100% Cotton?
Nature has given cotton attributes that makes it a smoother, softer and more comfortable choice. It’s “breathable,” so cotton sheets never feel sticky against your skin. Cotton sheets release soil easily, so they wash clean. Cotton sheets are perfect for any season providing year-round comfort. The fibre provides cool comfort in the summer and holds a layer of warm air in the cold weather. They also have the highest wear resistance of all the principal textile fibres; in fact, they become softer with repeated washings and use. It is also now generally accepted that cotton is kinder to the skin of eczema sufferers or people with sensitive skin, unlike the fibres in wool, nylon and other man-made fabrics, which tend to irritate the skin.

Why Egyptian Cotton?
A fine, lustrous, long staple cotton grown in Egypt. Long staple cottons are more expensive than the commonly available cottons, because they are synonymous with quality and have a higher thread count.

What is Thread Count?
Thread count is the number of horizontal and vertical threads in one square inch of fabric. High-quality sheets have at least 180 threads per square inch and are referred to as Cotton Percale. The higher the thread count, the softer the “hand” or feel of the sheet, and the more pill-resistant it is. The quality and feel of a sheet depends on the fibre the fabric is made from and the number of threads woven per inch. The higher the thread count, the softer and more durable the sheet.

In special terminology bedroom is referred to as “the intimate space”, i.e. the place that is not intended for others’ glances. However, the bedroom in a modern apartment-studio can be only conditionally separated from other zones by light constructive elements: arches, columns, sliding partitions, screens, etc.

According to the tradition, bedroom is isolated and is placed in one of the far and noiseless parts of the apartment, but at will one can also arrange here a workplace that won’t allow the premises to “stand idle” in the daytime, or the drawing-room.
In the apartment with high ceilings one can make the entresol and place the bed on the second level. As a result, there will appear some additional space for arranging workplace or cloakroom. (By the way, the place to store clothes is one of the main elements of bedroom. Even if it is possible to arrange a separate cloakroom, it would better place it adjacent to the bedroom. A small cloakroom can be separated from the bedroom by the rigid, but light mobile partitions that are commonly used for organizing of fitted cupboards).

One of the original decisions is the podium-case. For this the dais is built in the room and the bed is mounted inside of it. Boxes for bedclothes are placed on the sides. In the case of need the bed easy moves out on rollers.

The podium area can be used as cabinet (the workplace), library, etc. Such planning of the room empties space for area of recreation (drawing-room).

Not less original is the bedroom in the “Eastern” style.

In this case the bed is replaced by the mattress, which, with a help of the carpet, is transferred into the couch with many pillows, when it is necessary to transfer the room into the drawing-room.

Convenient and functional is the version of the bed-transformer that can be risen vertically and hidden, upon necessity, in special fitted cupboard. Finally, one can make zoning with the help of partitions (for example, in the form of the fitted cupboard), sliding doors, but better do with through rack structure or screen. They visually separate one zone from another, do not prevent the access of the light and air and create the feeling of the open space. Additionally you get shelves for books, files or your favorite collection. When you plan bedroom, first of all, you ought to think about the location of the bed.

Usually the head of the bed is put right against to one of the walls. But if you consider it important to orient the resting body along the east-west axis, the bed can be placed freely relatively to walls.

If the bedroom sizes permit, a wide bed can be placed far from walls. In such a way you can create the peculiar “sleepy island”, particularly if the bed is round. The special atmosphere for sleep can be created by the canopy. It is a weighty construction that consists of the massive framework, awning and bed curtains. The root of such decision is in our subconsciousness that requires protected, even symbolically, place for sleep.

One often uses such method as rising of the place for sleep to the “podium”. Its construction looks like the podium, even sometimes with several steps. The bulk paddy mattress is freely put on it.

The ingenious decorative method is the location of the bed in the niche that can be marked out by the contrasting to the whole interior decorating. It will be nice, if it is possible to design the bedroom with a separate bath that is intended only for owners of the bedroom. Then not only sanitary engineering, but also the dressing table with autonomous illuminated adjustable mirrors will be placed there.

The stylistic decision of the bedroom can be quite different from other rooms.

Solemnity and pathos, which are relevant for the guest segment of the house, are extra here, the atmosphere of personal quarters is to promote relaxation and distraction from everyday concerns, everything should tune you in for rest.

The character of your bedroom, that psychological mood that it causes, greatly depends on the finishing agents, and remarkably, not only their decorative, but also their practical qualities shape the enveloping atmosphere. Generally, people strive to use noise-insulating materials for bedrooms. It is preferable that walls are textural and noise-absorbing. A wonderful material for finishing of the walls is wallpapers. It is better if the surface does not yield blinks, because this is rather tiresome.

Flower arranging is one of my favorite pastimes it is both relaxing and pleasing for the amateur or professional. The aim is to create your own unique version of what you can see in your garden or country lane. The finished product should have a feeling of natural beauty.

Color combinations can be whatever you feel like, I find whites, yellows, blues and purples make very peaceful combos but some of the most stunning arrangements are from mixing bright and strong colors, let your imagination run for the most successful combinations… be brave and go for it.

The vase or container plays a big role it is useful to start a collection, some to think about are plain glass, stained glass and pewter in various sizes and shapes. There are now thousands of types of glass vase that you can buy over the internet so give this some thought.

Cutting tips
The best time to cut your flowers is in the cool of early morning
Sharpen your secateurs on a regular basis
Cut your stems long, this helps when you are arranging them
Once cut immediately place into a water filled bucket
Pick everything you can find rather than obvious combinations

Conditioning tips
Leave your flowers in deep clean warm rain water for a day or so
Remove any leaves below the waterline of your vase
Cut the stems, soft stems 10°- 30°, woody stems 45°
Keep in a cool dark place preferably 1-5°C

Arrangements tips
Avoid symmetry or being strict, go with the flow!
Use different stem lengths
Make you arrangement three dimensional… think 3D
Selection of foliage is as important as your flower selection
Most importantly, contrast your colors

There where you need it and out of sight when you don’t, retractable screen doors can maximize the view while letting in fresh air.

Retractable screen doors such as those from ODL feature few parts and a new magnetic latch for a more secure closure. An exclusive SlamProof system prevents pinched fingers and ensures safe recoil into the housing unit. In addition, weather stripping in the top and bottom track keeps dirt and insects out of the home. The retractable screen door works on inswing, outswing and sliding doors.

The screen fits neatly into the housing unit and blends cleanly into the door frame when retracted. Then, when engaged, the retractable screen door is nearly invisible, fully covering the doorway opening and allowing maximum airflow into the home. Made with a durable fiberglass screen, it resists damage from hands and pets.

Best of all, you don’t need a professional installer. The screen comes ready to install and installation can typically be completed in one to two hours. The pictured steps are all that’s required.

Step 1 Install the screen housing.

Step 3 Install tracks and sill plate.

Step 2 Cut tracks and sill plate to the correct width of your door.

Step 4 Install magnetic catch.
