The Tudor garden was a homely enclosure, like the living room in a simple house containing few, but good-sized, apartments. Sometimes one large enclosure answered many purposes. First of all, it contained the medicinal herbs. Then it answered the purpose of the pleasure garden, providing alleys and arbors for people to walk on and sit under, besides ground for games. Finally, it supplied a mixture of vegetables and flowers for use and ornament. The orchard, if not actually a part of the garden, was placed near it and similarly ornamented.

A number of sun-dials were also scattered about, both for use and ornament. Henry VIII apparently ordered them by the dozen. Sun-dials had existed in England before the Roman invasion, but interest in them seems to have been especially keen during the sixteenth century. The first book in English devoted to dialing was published in 1533, and was largely a translation from Witkendus. At this period the actual dial was more fanciful than at a later date and often formed an armillary sphere.

A water supply was considered a very important adjunct to the garden. A central feature was often a well or fountain fed by a spring, or a cistern. Cisterns were made of lead and decorated in such a way as to make them very ornamental.

Various games were played in the garden or its vicinity. Bowling-alleys and greens for archery were common. All that was required was a stretch of good, firm turf or gravel. Tennis was another favorite game. Henry VIII was passionately fond of tennis. Sometimes he used to play in the walled court for “close tennis play ” at Hampton Court, which is the oldest one in England, and has since served as a model for many others.

Have you recently found yourself getting bored with your homes current interior? Have you been looking for a unique conversation starter that is sure to keep people talking? Have you ever wanted to take a mini-vacation without ever leaving the house? If you answered yes to any or all of these questions, a bamboo curtain might be just the thing you have been searching for. In this article, well take a look at how you can decorate your home with unique bamboo curtains.

A quality bamboo curtain is made from natural bamboo beads that are strung together with wire. These strands (varying from 100 150) are then hung from a frame and hand-painted on both sides to create a unique curtain. These curtains can be used in doorways or as wall hangings, but either way they help to give any room in the house a whole new personality. Now, lets turn our attention towards the many different types of bamboo curtains available.

There are hundreds of different designs available when looking for a unique bamboo curtain. This makes finding a bamboo curtain that fits your personality a very easy project. For example, say you have one room of the house that serves as your personal sanctuary, a place you can go to escape the world. You may find that a bamboo curtain featuring a beach scene or a sunset might work beautifully in such a room. On the other hand, you may have a passion for classic artists and paintings. If this is the case, you may want to consider a bamboo curtain portraying the Mona Lisa or Michelangelos David. The options are limited only by your imagination. In fact, there are many companies who will hand-make a unique bamboo curtain according to your personal request!

You are probably thinking that bamboo curtains sound great, but are sure to cost a fortune. This couldnt be further from the truth. Bamboo curtains are very affordable, and can be shipped right to your home ready to hang. They are also very durable, as most bamboo curtains require very little maintenance and will last for many years. What about installing a bamboo curtain? It is as simple as placing two screws in the wall. You can then hang and start enjoying your unique bamboo curtain.

Weve spent some time discussing how a unique bamboo curtain can be perfect for you, but lets not forget about the kids! If you have children in your house, a bamboo curtain makes a great alternative to posters. A unique bamboo curtain will instantly change the whole feel of your childs bedroom, while impressing even the harshest critics. Your kids (and their friends) will definitely think a bamboo curtain is cool, and you will be sure to score some hip parent points. Right on!

As you can see, there are several different ways in which you can decorate your home with unique bamboo curtains. These affordable pieces will add personality to any room in the house, while also serving as an instant escape day or night. Enjoy!

Above all, the pleasure garden was intended for the diversion of the chatelaine. As early as 1250 we learn from a contemporary record that Henry III, to gratify Eleanor of Provence, ordered his bailiff at Woodstock “to make round about the garden of our Queen two walls good and high with fountains so that no one can enter, with a well-ordered herbary befitting her position, near our garden pond, where the said Queen may roam about freely.” Here she might have meditated in solitude under a leafy bower, have enjoyed a tete-a-tete with a bosom friend enthroned on a turfed seat, or in pleasant company have paced up and down the sanded alleys, flanked by the pleasant sound of water from the fountains.

As an agreeable alternative from the smoky castle hall, the pleasure garden was evidently the favorite place for recreation; and why not, since the pleasant forces of nature and tranquil sounds of falling water from the fountains was certainly a pleasing environment. It was often chosen for giving audience and receiving friends. Entertainment was furnished by the troubadours, who sang their Chansons de Geste, interspersed with romances of the Crusades, of prowess, and of love; by the jugglers and tumblers, who performed wonderful tricks and gymnastic feats; and by the dancing-girls, whose graceful motions were of an Oriental character. The guests themselves also frequently caroled, or danced in a circle, sang songs, and played musical instruments on the steppes of the fountains for their own diversion.

Garland weaving was a favorite occupation for ladies. Both men and women wore chaplets of flowers on festive occasions, and they were also given as rewards for success in various sports. Chaucer speaks of the month of May as especially the season for weaving garlands.

The beauty of a jewel was never more enhanced by an appropriate setting than the loveliness of ladies by the fanciful environment of this medieval pleasure garden.
Fresh as the new flowers of sondry hewe,” in her trailing robes fashioned ” summerwise,” her head wreathed with a chaplet of fragrant roses, her bright eyes sparkling in the sunshine, the “fayre ladye ” was indeed the crowning joy of a very paradise. And as she was its most beautiful ornament, so was it her chief delight.

Youve moved into your new home, unpacked the boxes, arranged and rearranged the furniture, hung a few things on the walls. Hmmm. You know, or think you know how you want your rooms to feel but cant get from the builder white walls and your old stuff to that wonderful comfy inviting look you got when you were in the model of the home you purchased?

Before you panic and true anxiety sets in know there are more easy solutions at your fingertips than ever before. There are decorator magazines, home decorating shows, web sites, retailers, great books with very good instructions. Visiting model homes again will help. Okay, you say, I see them, I buy them, I visit them, I like them, but how do I do it? I dont know where to begin.

Start with one room you love in a magazine or model home. Well call it your dream room. If you can go to the model home to feel and study the space or the room you will get the best results. Ask if you may take pictures in the models too. This will help when you get home and when you shop. Take a tape measure and a spiral notebook with you to make notes and draw sketches. I like the ones with plastic tabs and pockets inside.

Lets start decorating by seeing what we like.

Are all the walls the same color and the ceiling too? What color(s) is the room? Write this down. Is there a chair rail or decorative molding at the ceiling, wall covering or faux painting? What is on the floor? Is there tile, wood, carpet, area rugs? What color and texture and pattern? Is the area rug braided or a Persian rug or a contemporary design diagonally placed partly under one of the chairs and sofa?

What style is the furniture? Is it all a matching set? Do all the woods match? Maybe the sofa and club chairs are the same style and wood finish but the chairs have a patterned upholstery and the sofa is a solid or striped fabric. Write this down.

How is the furniture arranged? Does the sofa sit in the middle of the room separating the conversation area from the game table, or is all the furniture pushed up against the walls? Draw a little floor plan so you dont forget when you get home.

The windows. Are there blinds, shutters, a valence or draperies? Are the rods large or small, wood or metal with huge finials? Make a note of it. If there are panels at each side of the window, do they go all the way to the floor? What color are they? Do they match the walls or are they the same fabric as the toss pillows on the sofa? Is it the drapery hold back that catches your eye? You will have to consider the exposure and privacy out your own windows when you make your final window treatment selection.

The pizzazz is the accessories. This is often what many people love most about the model homes or magazine pictures that inspire them. The details, the little things we all love to collect and buy when we shop. This is what pulls the room together and gives it your personality. In the room you love, what kind of lamps are there? Is there a place to store the things you will need to put away? Are there several things grouped on the coffee table? What sizes are they? Is there something pretty tall, a large round platter set on a stand and a box all grouped together? If there are photographs on the end tables, how big are they and how does the frame style work with everything else in the room?

What is on the walls? Is there one large picture over the sofa or is there an arrangement of black and white photos in different size frames? What color is the matting and how much space from the photo to the frame? Details, details, details. Draw a sketch of the picture arrangement and the sizes in your notebook.

Congratulations. You have just completed the first step to decorating your own home.

You know what you want, how it goes together and what it will look like. You dont have to break the bank now to create your room. You probably already have the furniture pieces and accessories. You may already have the lamps and area rug as well. You may just have to recreate and rearrange.

Get started. Go to the paint store and select the paint chips you think best match your dream room. Grab several samples, color can be deceiving and they can look different depending on the light. Take them back to the model home and see which ones match the best. Buy the paint and paint the room.

Your window treatment. If you copy your dream room exactly make sure you have the right privacy and exposure considerations covered. This is where a lot of people go astray. They think they like shutters and buy them. Then they dont like them and also wonder how their dream room went wrong. Your dream room may have been more airy with a shade and drapery panels on large wood poles. The wrong blinds, shutters or draperies and hardware can be a costly mistake that you probably wont change.

Arrange your furniture for conversation, TV watching, family fun, reading, eating or homework keeping in mind your dream room. Was all the furniture lined up on one side of the room? Your sofa may be the wrong color and your chairs may need to be redone. That doesnt mean you have to buy all new; consider slipcovers. You can buy them or make them. Be sure your accessories are things you want around you and are of a grand enough scale for your space. Voila! Youre on your way to decorating confidence and living in the home that makes you and your family happy.

We all know how important air quality is, if you have ever spent a few hours on a plane you probably know that poor air quality has very negative effects, and that in some cases air quality has a very significant effect on general health.

But most of us dont know much about the air in our homes and houses, we have no idea how much cleaner, or sometimes even how much worst it is from the outside air, in you live in a big city, or even close to one you should start thinking about this seriously. Air quality today, with a few exceptions, is not at its prime, and that you can significantly improve your quality of air, and your family quality of air.

Most of us have heard about air purification system, and air purifying products, most of the people believe that these products are extremely expensive and that the overall worth of this is not enough to justify spending so much money, but the times have changed, there are a lot of products in the air purification system market, and if you put some work into researching and studying the subject, you might find yourself pleasantly surprised as you walk away with an air purifying system that didnt cost as much as you initially thought it would.

You can get an air purifier that will help you in many ways, improve your health, give you some peace of mind as to your children health and breathing, and even help you clean the house a little yes, thats true, the dust and dead skin that is a part of the problem in the poor air quality issue will be taken care of by the air purifier.

Living in a city, or in a air pollute area, have its tolls and they are not easy to avoid, the air purifier does help in preventing some very uncomfortable situations, and it is a shame that a lot of people think that is just an expensive thing without much use, it can help you in your daily lives, and improve the quality of your life, you can sleep better, breath better, your kid can avoid some diseases with greater ease and your house will be overall cleaner and the air in it, fresher.

There are different types of air purifiers on the market, the difference is mainly in the way the air purifier system filters that incoming air, and what it used in it process to clean the polluted air. The solutions that are the most common in the market are mechanical filters or air cleaning filter that use special materials to filter the incoming air, life charcoal for example. The more recent development in air purification systems is the air ionizer, which used electricity to clean the air.

Most effective for eliminating particles in the air the air ionizer burns those particles in the process of filtering thus reducing risk of many different kind of allergies significantly.
The best tip for someone in the market for an air purifier is to research the different products and consider his needs first, before even thinking of using, you will also need ot research the maintenance and overall costs, like buying new filters, and the places in which you would want to position your air purifier.

English gardens had degenerated into meaningless repetitions of French and Dutch fashions by the end of the seventeenth century. Conventional plans were mimicked or exaggerated until the formal manner became merely an affected mannerism. Finally, nothing remaining but the defects of the old system, a reaction resulted in its entire destruction. On the ruins was created the Landscape Garden, in the strict meaning of the word no garden at all, but a stretch of cultivated scenery.

The English perhaps because they had most abused the conventional system were the first to raise an outcry against formal gardening. Formality could certainly be carried to no greater excess; it was logical to seek beauty in a contrary extreme. Freedom from every restraint was the gospel of the new school. Kent, its leader according to Walpole, was the first to jump outside the fence and insist that the garden should be “set free from its prim regularity, and the gentle stream taught to serpentize.” His method, as described by Lord Kames, was, “to paint a field with beautiful objects, natural and artificial, disposed like colors upon a canvas.

It requires indeed more genius to paint in the gardening way: in forming a landscape upon a canvas, no more is required but to adjust the figures to each other. An artist who lays out grounds in Kent’s way has an additional task: he ought to adjust the figures to the several varieties of the field.

In plain words, nothing remained of the old style in the new gardens. These latter consisted of smooth lawns of grass, diversified by clumps of trees, and intersected by curved paths or irregular pieces of water. Nature was said to abhor a straight line; hence walks and brooks were always laid out in “serpentine meanders.”

Marks of decay are often to be seen in nature; Kent reproduced this effect by planting dead trees and stumps. These attempts to make a beautiful wilderness often resulted in nothing but a confused mass of disorder, and were received with ridicule even by the sentimentalists.

Decorating any home, apartment or office space is no easy task, especially if you have an eye for detail. It is even harder to decorate well when you realize how much it matters to decorate your space in ways that reflect you. I have recently been busy redecorating my office. It was very important for me that my office reflect who I am and that it be a comfortable environment for writing in. I chose, after much deliberation, to go with a Japanese art theme for my office.

I have always loved Japanese art, but it seems to be getting more popular and hence more widely available in the past few years. There is something about the look and feel of Japanese art that I love, so I figured it would be an excellent way to decorate a special space that I use for doing endless hours of valuable writing. I knew that I needed to be intentional about the way I decorated my office. I am very aware of my environment and so I know that I need to decorate and create my work environment with care. I write much better when I am inspired by my surroundings, and I know that Japanese art is very inspiring.

I began searching for Japanese art in thirft shops and in unique art shops. Anyone who is interested in Japanese art for their home or office could start on the internet by searching for Japanese art. See if there are any speciality shops or chain dealers in your area and then make a visit. While you can purchase great pieces of Japanese art off the internet, it is sometimes hard to really get a feel for the look and color scheme of an art piece without seeing it face to face. So don’t hesitate to be picky and to search around for Japanese art pieces that fit your style and needs. There are varying kinds and styles of Japanese art that can be purchased, so see what you like first.

My love for Japanese art hinges on their great use of color. I am very much affected by color, so I love the bold and brilliant hues that most Japanese art is comprised of. I started my search for Japanese art by choosing a color scheme that I wanted to decorate with and then I chose pieces according to that scheme.

I am not sorry that I chose Japanese art to be the theme of my office decor. In fact, I love what I chose. It inspires me to work hard and to create in much the same way that the Japanese have created such great Japanese art.

You are probably getting annoyed. And thats because there is so much talk about air purifier and cleaners going around you that you just cant understand what the big deal is all about. Here is just another well marketed home appliance getting more than its fair share of airtime and trying to convince well-meaning people with their hard earned money. Air purifier and cleaners! What a waste! You think so?

Think again!

For air purifiers and cleaners hold the key to completely change the way you have viewed and lived your life and the life around you. Imagine a life of breathing air as pure as possible, giving your body the best intake it can ever have and leading a superior lifestyle of health-consciousness? Air purifiers and cleaners make all this possible for you and more. Enough said about how these technological marvels can be good, lets get down to why you need any of these and what they can do for you.

In a documented study by a government body in the US, it was found that indoor levels of pollution are typically 2-5 times more than the outdoors (because of spatial density) which is a source of concern as most people spend a significant part of the life indoors than in the outdoors. Pollutants or the bad-particles at your home could be 8-10 times higher in concentration than it is outside your front door. And that fact doesnt go down too well with our friendly neighborhood air purifier and cleaners. Especially so for without the air purifier and cleaners, the pollution in the air manifests itself in our bodies as allergies to smoke, dust, fumes, pollen, dander, mites and host of other such particulate matter. Does indoor fatigue, sinus irritations, sneezing bouts, sleep disorders all sound too familiar to you? Thats what can happen and a lot more in the absence of air purifier and cleaners.

Essentially, the core of this article is to convey just one piece of information to you that the use of air purifier and cleaners is a win-win situation for the user, simply because you cant put a price tag to the value of a healthy life or living conditions. If for the cost of a few dollars, air purifiers and cleaners can make you enjoy every living moment you spend under its observant clean influence, then its almost a no-brainer in making a decision of choosing to use one. And after that what remains is only a choice of the type of air purifier and cleaners that you had like to use.

Remember one thing; nothing can ever be too expensive for granting yourself a cleaner healthier life. For yourself and for your family! Wish you all the best!

The reign of Edward I allowed landowners to turn their attention to something other than defense and safety. As within the castle the wealthy lord sought to embellish the great hall, which often took the place of the ancient keep, with fine tapestry, richly carved furniture, magnificently carved garden statuary, large functional and ornate garden fountains, so outside as well he strove to decorate the gardens with fountains, arbors, and perhaps a maze.

The improvement in husbandry and horticulture was as satisfactory as the advance made in the fine arts. Here the influence of the king was specially felt. Though engaged in war or busy with legislative cares, Edward I found time to attend to the cultivation of his gardens and the stocking of his vineyards and orchards. Fruit and forest trees, shrubs, and flowers introduced from the continent were naturalized in the king’s gardens, fed by plentiful water from the fountains, or in those of the nobility and the larger religious houses.

New varieties of fruit were introduced at this time. Figs, oranges, lemons, citrons, almonds, and even olives are noted among the fruits growing in the gardens of some of the large land-owners. These natives of a southern climes could not have ripened their fruits unless in exceptionally warm seasons or by means of hothouses, with water supplied by the local fountains; however, the evidence that they existed is overwhelming.

All classes of people now seem to have had pleasure gardens. Those belonging to the king were principally in the neighborhood of London, at Charing, Westminster, Clarendon, the Tower, and at Windsor Castle. In them grew peaches (first mentioned, in 1276), pears and apples (of which several new varieties were introduced), quinces and strawberries (well known to the Anglo-Saxons) and gooseberries (which seem to have been a novelty). There were also royal vineyards at Windsor and Westminster. Dcor included ornate fountains, and bas relief garden statues. One of the great nobles, De Lacey, Earl of Lincoln, cultivated extensive market gardens on the top of Holborn Hill and received a considerable revenue from them.
