When you have laminate flooring it is important to know the proper ways to clean and maintain the floors. When you properly take care of your laminate flooring it will last for many years to come and you will be surprised how long it maintains the new and beautiful look.

Laminate flooring is very low maintenance and long-lasting. There are only a few simple things that you need to do to ensure your floors stay clean. You can dust mop and vacuum your laminate floors with a soft brush to remove dust, dirt, or grit. A damp cloth will not damage the laminate flooring panels. However, when you use anything damp on the laminate flooring, do not use too much water and be sure to dry the floor thoroughly with a clean, soft cloth. If you do have a spill on your laminate floors then you should immediately blot them up with a clean, dry cloth, sponge, or paper towels. Excess liquid tracked in by feet or spills should not remain on the flooring for long periods of time and be cleaned immediately.

To prevent damage to your laminate flooring while you are cleaning you should not use soap-based detergents, abrasive cleaners, or any other type of cleaners on laminate flooring. There is no need for it and chemical products will only damage the flooring. You also should not use steel wool or scratchy scouring pads when you are cleaning because you will damage the laminate panels. These panels do not need wax or polish as these products will also cause damage. You should also never steam clean laminate panels.

There are also other ways you can maintain your flooring to ensure a longer life, such as:

Placing a doormat outside so any sand and grit picked up is not bought inside.

Using only colourfast carpeting and pads on your floor surfaces.

If you wear high heels then you should avoid walking on the surface. High heels and other sharp objects are the biggest problems for scratching the laminate panels.

Furniture legs can also be damaging and you can avoid this by putting pads underneath the legs of furniture to avoid scratching.

When you move furniture you should also lift it entirely and never drag it across the surface of the floor.

The less you arrange the flooring in the home, the less you have to worry about scratching. However, you must rearrange the furniture occasionally because furniture will cause indentations if sitting in the same place for too long.

There is no reason to treat your floors with a sealant after you install them because the panels already have sealant on them.

Our home is somewhere where we should feel safe and comfortable at all times and be able to shut the outside world away. For many people there are times when our private space becomes invaded and we have intruders, there are many ways that we can help to prevent this from happening and protect our families and possessions. Home safety devices and security has become big business and there are so many different products on the market that it becomes a hard choice as what to choose and when it should be used.

The market can be broken down and there should be particular focus paid to the outside and the inside of the building, each area requires a different method of protection.

When looking into the security of the external perimeter of the home there are a number of devices that can be used. Secure gates and padlocks are a good idea to prevent people from entering your back yard, even an open gate can be an invitation for someone to come in and have a look around. Make sure your garage and your external buildings are secured such as the shed or outhouse, many thieves will not make the effort to break into your home but are looking for quick gains that they can find in a garage or shed that is not locked. If you are looking to install a security system then installing security lights that can detect motion in the garden or on the front drive would be a good idea. The lights are very bright and will be able to detect any movement from a person and will often protect areas that otherwise would be dark and vulnerable.

Lots of people are also looking into the security camera path for protection and have installed monitoring systems, cameras are a good idea but the systems can be expensive and may not be necessary for a smaller house. Protecting the outside of the house is the first line of defense, in order to have a complete system the inside of the property needs to be secured as well.

Home safety does not need to be expensive and simple measures can help to prevent the everyday burglar from getting into your house easily. Window locks and good quality door locks make the task harder and often an easy target is what they are looking for. Installation of a burglar alarm system is also a good idea, if the budget is tight though then there are dummy systems that can be installed which will act as a deterrent. The more visible security that you have the less likely it is that you will be targeted. Motion detection systems and security monitoring systems can all be setup inside the home too; it is possible to do this at a reasonable cost due to the advance in technology and the availability of the products. Home security and safety should be taken seriously and it doesn?t have to be expensive to implement a good tight system in your home.

Closet Organizing In 5 Minutes A Day

The thought of closet organizing makes most people groan. But it doesn’t need to be this way! Starting with a messy closet, you can get that closet organized and keep it organized in just 5 minutes a day.

Set a timer and let’s get started!

– Day 1.

Your first 5 minutes will be devoted to staring at the contents of your closet. With pen and paper in hand, jot down what items you haven’t used in years (be honest). You will be throwing or giving these items away. If you can’t bear to toss an item, give some thought as to where the item could go for a new home and a new life.

When your timer goes off, stop. Put the pen and paper on the closet floor and close the door. You’ll be back tomorrow.

– Tomorrow is here!

Continue your closet organizing adventure. Go to your closet and pick up your pen and paper. Keep on creating your list of what in your closet you can get rid of and what items need to find a new home. Use as many 5 minute sessions as necessary on this step. Feel like you’re not getting anywhere? Nonsense! This step makes all the difference down the road when you are maintaining your organized closet.

Simply stated, it will be A LOT easier to keep your closet organized when it only contains what you truly use and is not being used as your personal archive. (In fact, it will probably help you if you can designate one closet or space in your home as a storage container for all those items you need seasonally or for keepsakes. Things you only access occasionally.)

In addition, doing this one step over several days will give you a chance to really think about those items you have collected over the years. You’ll find you’re ready to give or throw away things on Day 5 that you couldn’t bear to part with on Day 1.

– The next step to your closet organizing.

Once you have completed the list of unnecessary items in your closet, grab a couple of boxes and your timer. Set your 5 minutes and, using your list, toss the trash in the trash box and the give-away items in the give-away box. If this takes you more than 5 minutes, stop and continue tomorrow. This step will go fairly quickly, however, if you’ve done a thorough job with your list from Day 1.

– Moving right along.

Now that all the excess stuff is gone from your closet, you can get down to organizing what is left. Use your 5 minutes to genuinely study what’s remaining in your closet.

* Which items do you use everyday?

* Which items can be stored together?

* Which items can be stored on shelves?

* Which items can be stored in drawers?

* Which items should be put in bins?

* Which items simply don’t belong in this closet?

Take notes during this step and use as many 5 minutes as you need. Again, doing this over several days gives you time to consider how you use each item in your closet each day and what type of organizational system will make the most sense for you. You’re aiming for usability here and it may take a bit of trial and error. That’s fine because the end result will be a closet you can easily keep organized without even thinking about it.

– Time to organize your closet.

Using your notes from the previous step, get the supplies you need to organize your closet. Again, take your time with this step, noting what is working and what is not along the way. Tweak as necessary.

* Need more hangars, bins, baskets? Put them on your shopping list for next time you go to the discount store.

* For starters, use whatever organizing supplies you already have including old boxes. It can help to live with your ideas for a week or two to enable you to understand exactly the type of organizing supplies that will serve you the best, so feel free to use temporary containers while you’re at this stage of your closet organizing project.

Then return what you don’t need and purchase what you do.

This step can either be completed as part of your normal shopping (requiring no extra trip to the store and keeping within the 5 minute concept) or simply dive in and do one big shopping trip. Your choice.

– Live with it.

There’s no substitute for living with your organizing to see what you’ve accomplished and what you need to change. Use your 5-minutes-a-day to ask yourself what you like and don’t like about your newly organized closet. Take notes and make changes.

– Last step.

This is the maintenance step and it’s easier than you think. For your closet organizing enterprise to give you the results you want, you’ll need to take 5 minutes each day and put things away in your closet where they belong.

But beware. Skip this step for just 7 days and you’ll need to put in 35 minutes to get back on track. Maybe you don’t have 35 minutes to organize your closet, so you don’t do it. It won’t be long before your closet will be in chaos again and you’re using EXTRA time every day just to locate items that should be at your fingertips.

That’s right, you’re going to use the time anyway. Being disorganized is a huge time waster. So stick to your 5 minutes a day, no matter what. It won’t be long until your new habit becomes second nature and you can’t imagine NOT doing a quick tidy-up each day.

All it takes is 5 minutes.

How do I make my home portable steam cleaner or Home Shampooer work?

Many of you may be asking yourselves why I would teach you how to not need me? The answer is kinda simple. I am in the service industry and we are supposed to serve. I am also hoping that when you need a Colorado carpet cleaner in the future that you will remember me and call or if you have a friend in need you might refer Colorado Carpet Cleaning Masters to them. In this article I will try to answer the most common questions I have received in regards to carpet cleaning with a home machine.

The first step in carpet cleaning is to remove as much of the carpet load or dry soil from the carpet fibers as possible. What happens to dry dirt when you add water? It becomes mud and mud is a lot harder to get out than sand. A sq. yard of carpet may contain up to 8 lbs. of dry dirt. A thorough vacuum of the carpet is the best first step to cleaning the carpet yourself. If you need help in choosing a vacuum, see our free choosing a vacuum guide.

Now that the carpets are thoroughly vacuumed, we want to prespray or precondition the carpet.

This may be the most important step in the carpet cleaning process and it is often overlooked by the “professional carpet cleaning company.” Many Colorado carpet cleaning companies will only precondition the spots they see and not the entire carpet. This is akin to taking very dirty jeans and placing detergent on the ketchup spot and ignoring the general grime that the jeans are covered in. After the jeans dried you would have very dirty jeans with a clean spot where the ketchup used to be. To insure that all the carpet gets as clean as possible we must prespray all the carpets before we clean them. We also want the prespray to sit or dwell in the carpet fibers for at least two to twenty minutes before we clean them. It takes the soap bubbles time to pry the dirt off the carpet fiber. If we heat our preconditioner before we apply it, the preconditioner will be more powerful and effective. Once we reach 118 degrees every 18 degrees hotter will double the ability of the detergent to clean. Make sure that you are heating only detergent and non combustible chemicals. This is one reason why you can never get the carpets as clean with a portable cleaner compared to a high heat truck mount carpet cleaner.

After you prespray a section of carpet you can agitate the carpet with a carpet rake and this will help the detergent break the dirt free from the carpet fiber. You don’t want the prespray to dry before you rinse the carpets with your home cleaner. You can use a fresh water rinse or a slightly acidic rinse to flush the detergent and dirt out of the carpet.

When you are heading out for a relaxing vacation to the Adirondacks, how often do you think about what the little ones are going to be sitting on. Sure you have packed up your Adirondack chairs, naturally, but what about them?

Kids love to be like their parents, but putting them in adult chairs is not always the best idea. That’s why there are child Adirondack chairs available. You can allow your child to feel like they are all grown up like you, and let them show off their good taste in vacation furniture, while still being in a chair that is safe and comfortable for them.

Before you just purchase a chair and let your child go, you need to look at the craftsmanship of the child Adirondack chair. It should be made of quality wood that is in good condition. While children don’t weigh as much as adults, the child Adirondack chair still should be a sturdy piece that will hold up to their weight, and more, without showing any signs of strain. The last thing you need is the vacation to end early because your child was cut by a splintering piece of a faulty child Adirondack chair.

Next, think other safety issues. There are slats in those child Adirondack chairs, just like there are in the adult ones. If you know anything about kids, you know they can manage to get a finger, toe or something else caught in almost any space that they can find. Look carefully at the slats to make sure they are not large enough to end up pinching a finger and leading to a lot of crying.

You want a chair that is going to be a good fit for them, but also one they can grow into, unless you want this to be the only vacation where they can use it.
