Volumetric Extension Focusing Transparency Away From Neighboring Houses

Located in Montmorency, France, and bearing the name of its location, this villa extension adorns a home built in 1910 and updated to suit a modern lifestyle.This Montmorency Residence was re-designed by Francesca De Marchi of Paris-based NIM Architecture to include a contemporary addition that provided the family living here with a merger of old and new on their new property. Deciding to buy their first home, the young couple and their three children ended up enjoying a renovated house, as well as a contemporary addition gathered on a 1,000 square meter property. With a southeast orientation and placed on a slightly sloped land, the residence spotted on Muuuz lacked comfortable light-flooded social spaces, so this white volumetric attachment was designed to shelter the kitchen, dining room and lounge. Built within the limits marked by urban regulations, this extension showcases a green roof underneath which extensive use of glazing allows sunlight to penetrate deep into the interiors. Privacy was obtained by focusing transparency away from neighboring houses and creating a family-friendly environment complete with terrace and a green lawn.

Strikingly Creative Glass Home Hidden Behind Concrete Blocks

The reasons for hiding your home between and behind concrete blocks may be difficult to spot at first. The elegant Glass Home located in Hiroshima, Japan, was envisioned by Naf architect & design and is based on a simple, but eye-catching system of stacking large concrete blocks (each sized 1.0 m x 1.0 m x 1.5m ), reinforced with steel. This unusual architecture feature ensures privacy and protection from earthquakes- and did we mentions its interesting appearance? Here is more from the architects: “Overall composition of the building consists of roof and transparent glass to enclose interior space with the aforementioned concrete block structure. There is no roof over the concrete blocks. Therefore rays of the sun pour over the blocks, and the reflection of the light shines inside the house. Furthermore, vines of various flowers will be planted along the block, changing breakwater-like structure to a hill of flower and greenery in the future“. A great way to break the patterns of modern architecture, wouldn’t you agree?

Textile Factory Meticulously Converted into 8-Story Whythe Hotel in Brooklyn

We recently received photos and information about a new hotel project in New York. Here is the press release we were sent: Located in the heart of Brooklyn, Wythe Hotel is an 8-story hotel on the Williamsburg waterfront. Built in 1901, this former textile factory has been meticulously converted into a 72-room hotel offering service and amenities yet to be seen in the borough, while the building's industrial character – like its concave corner entrance, original pine beams, masonry, arched windows and cast-iron columns – has been beautifully preserved. Renowned Brooklyn restaurateur Andrew Tarlow, of Marlow & Sons, Diner, and Roman's, manages the hotel's expansive food and beverage program. Venues include Reynards – a ground floor restaurant and bar with a wood-fired oven and grill, courtyard seating, and a daily menu featuring market-driven American fare and seasonal cocktails, and Ides – a 6th floor bar and terrace with stunning Manhattan and Brooklyn views.

There are various event space as well, including a main event hall, a private dining room, large guest lofts and 60-seat screening room and bar. Throughout the hotel, guest rooms feature 13' high original timber ceilings, oversized windows, radiant heat concrete floors, seasonally sourced mini-bar offerings, custom amenities and works by local artists. Many rooms, including band rooms, bunk rooms and suites, boast floor-to-ceiling views of the Manhattan skyline and East River. This superb set of interior design visualizations, by designer Asaf Bakhshiyev, of Baku, Azerbaijan, displays magical detailing along with a great understanding for small spaces and the shared living areas present in today’s modern homes.

Unexpected architectural interest is created in the irregular curve of the doorway between the hall and the living room, featuring circular cutouts that capture tiny vignettes of the room as you draw nearer. A mirror with complimentary elliptical shapes flanks the left side to continue the theme along the full length of the space.

As you enter the living space, segregated shelving nooks hung at different height levels decorate a plain wall, echoing the stunning undulating muli-bulb lighting feature that zones one lounge area from another.

This narrow living room is furnished to provide every bit of storage and style that can be spread out over a larger lounge without appearing overcrowded or unkempt, and instead appears as a little jewel of the home.

A shared children’s room provides each sibling with a feeling of ones own space by the incorporation of a dividing shelf unit between the sleeping areas. Each child can have a zone of their own whilst the rest of the room remains a communal play area, where the cheerful colors are pulled together in a multicolored deep pile rug to provide a comfortable lounging place to spread out toy collections.

Inspiring Wooden Partitions Employed in the Design of Japanese Pojagi House

Kiyotoshi Mori & Natsuko Kawamura of architecture studio MDS completed the design for Pojagi House, a modern Japanese residence located in a residential district of Yokohama-city. The exterior of the residence is defined by generous windows, partially opening the house towards the street. This composition is complemented by parallel cladding surfaced with cedar boards, creating an overall interesting visual effect. The entire living volume is supported by a concrete base foundations, dissolving the need of a “fence”. Here are more details from the official project description: “The interior of traditional Japanese homes feature a space with floors surfaced with straw Tatami mats, referred to as the Tsuzukima, or ‘continuous gap’. Sliding screens within the wide open area may be drawn to subdivide into smaller rooms. This concept has been reinterpreted and expanded within this dwelling, incorporating a Korean Pojagi patchwork cloth designed by the owner. Moveable panels of fabric are hung between a loose spatial arrangement of partitions comprised of a colonnade of wooden pillars. The square columns measure 150 mm, stacked against each other to form wing walls“.

Three-Dimensional Financial Paper Architecture by Jill Sylvia

Patience and concentration go hand in hand when working on a project as detailed as this one. The Three-Dimensional Paper Architecture splendidly created by American artist Jill Sylvia is one of those projects that remains in your memory and you want to share it with others. Made out of paper cut-outs, these striking structures depict imposing buildings like the New York Stock Exchange, the U.S. Capitol Building, the Jefferson Memorial, the White House, or the U.S. Treasury Building. By cutting out blank spaces in ledger book or balance sheets, Jill Sylvia fabricates paper architecture that conveys analysis sheets into fine detailed structures: “The skeletal pages drape and accumulate, demarcate the time cost for their creation, and become the buildings for which they have laid the groundwork.” By re-contextualizing architectural buildings and official printed works, the talented artist creates stunning paper representations of well-known buildings and manages to perfect her art with each new project. Only natural materials are used for all its villas as well as public areas. The final product is a fusion of contemporary design and local Maldivian architecture. Probably the most relaxing feature of the hotel, the Spa, is considered here “a sanctuary for the inner self” and consists of over-water pavilions with glass floor, combined with natural materials and exotic fragrances.

Embryocare Clinic Displaying New Direction In Healthcare Design

Re-created to shape a new direction in healthcare design, this gynecological clinic displays an interesting collection of modern lines, dotted by textured surfaces and colored mostly in white, with furniture pieces showcasing a comforting summer-sky blue. Embryocare occupies a 200 square meters apartment in downtown Athens, near other spaces bearing similar programs. Fabricated by the creative minds of Athens-based architectural studio Mab Architects, this pristine white look suits the clinic, conveying the feeling of cleanliness, while the sculptural reception and waiting room sofas break the monotony with their relaxing cool blue.

The Embryocare clinic was designed after taking down all installations and creating partitions for each necessary space. Here is how the architects describe the project: “The choice of materials with cellular structures is a reference to the nature of the work performed in this surgery. Partitions and wall claddings are made of special translucent sandwich panels, made of two sheets of Perspex and the in-between gap, which is filled with plastic straws of different diameters. The material provides extraordinary effects and changes translucency depending on the viewpoint. White round mosaic tiling is covering all floors and occasionally the same surface splashes also over walls. Glossy white plaster ceiling is randomly pierced by seemingly floating circles of light or circular air vents. All furniture and fittings were carefully chosen to enhance the overall appearance.”

Luxury Hillside Residence Taking Advantage Of The Surroundings

Part of a luxury hillside housing project named Les Terrasses Cap-à-l'Aigle and located in the Cap-à-l'Aigle region of Charlevoix, Quebec, Canada, this stunning modern residence benefits from panoramic views over the St. Lawrence River and surrounding mountainscape. Known as Malbaie VI Marée Basse, the two story residential development was designed by Montreal-based studio Mu Architecture and completed last September. Occupying 3,200 square foot, the two volumes covered with cedar shingles are perfectly positioned for massive sunlight intake and provide the owners with beautiful panoramas from multiple vantage points.

A terrace captured in between these volumetric collection of spaces ensures the inhabitants stay strongly connected to the surroundings. Under the house’s green roof, bedrooms occupy the higher level and social spaces, the lower one. Here, on the ground floor, a red metal spiral staircase thrones in the middle, visually connecting the living/ dining /kitchen open floor plan. Cedar ceilings pierced by lights float over radiant concrete floors, creating a stunning effect and bounding the interior design together.

Reinterpreting The Use Of A Versatile Living Space : Transformer Renovation Project

Reinterpreting the needs and wishes of a modern inhabitant, this apartment is perfectly adapted to a lifestyle that includes minimization of space and maximization of functionality. Robert Garneau of award winning design firm Studio Garneau turned a pre-war studio apartment into a transformable habitable space beautifully dotted with colors and textures. The Transformer renovation project included adding sliding walls to create a versatile space, a walnut clad wall bed for that extra space necessary for yoga during the day or a custom-made modular sofa that transforms into a queen size bed. Spotted on Desire to Inspire, the transforming living space has many interesting details that describe it as versatile – the large sliding wall is either hiding the bedroom or hiding the library. It can even become the surface on which movies are projected. In this open/closed floor plan, the kitchen couldn’t strike the wrong note – the dining table converts to a countertop at the push of a button. Even the washroom wall opens to expose walnut clad laundry hampers and linen closets – how is that for versatility?

Small Apartment in Gothenburg Showcasing an Ingenious Layout

Seeing this charming small apartment especially developed for the students in Sweden makes one reconsider the idea of college dorms. With a total living area of 39 square meters, the apartment is situated in a lovely building from the late 1800s and features beautiful woodwork, tall paned windows and black electrical outlets, reminiscent of the area’s historical background. According to Stadshem, a complete renovation of the small crib recently took place, with the addition of a new kitchen with state-of-the-art integrated appliances. The apartment has a practical layout, with an open plan living room and kitchen area and a flood of daylight from the six windows. The ceiling height is 2.8 meters and has unobstructed views of the river and green space adjacent to the sports facilities across the water. All walls are painted in light gray against the white-oiled pine floor. Lovely, isn’t it?

Art Deco Inspired Secret Desk with a Twist by Magdalena Tekieli [Video]

Do you remember the Accordion-inspired office we posted a while back on Freshome? Well, here is another similar design that caught our attention. Envisioned by Magdalena Tekieli, Secret Desk is also meant for office spaces and features a clever “mechanism” of hiding objects inside. Characterized by gravity (another word for work efficiency), the desk is able to fold and unfold, depending to the items it stores.But no matter how much this furniture piece changes its appearance, the overall visual effect it offers is that of elegance. Made of wood and leather, the desk also comes with a few cute drawers, perfect for writing instruments, also able to “disappear” inside the accordion-inspired addition. The designer explains that the simple, geometric forms and precious materials used to build the escritoire are a reference to the Art Deco style. Modern Elegance Showcased In Zelenograd Apartment

Located in the Zelenograd region of Moscow, this elegantly designed apartment spreads over 200 square meters – enough space to let creativity flow and compose a suite of spaces that would become the owner’s dream home, as well as a source of inspiration for others. Designers Alexander and Polina Fedorova of architectural studio Alexandra Fedorova united design forces to create the stunning interiors of this luxurious apartment. Occupied by a young family of three, the flat showcases high-quality details in all its spaces, be they private or public. The large living room with corner sofa sets the mood for a fantastic social hub to use with friends and family, while the pristine dining space with chairs gathered around a round table seamlessly connects the living to the kitchen.

Two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a separate children’s closets make up the private spaces. In the kid’s bedrooms, a green Col-Letto Bed from Lago thrones over the yellow/green details, contrasting with the dark floors and creating a splendid interior design. The overall appearance of this residential space conveys a feeling of modern elegance, constructed in black, white and brown, with the green/yellow palette softening the child’s bedroom. This reminds me of the Triumph Palace Apartment, in which yellow, white and brown were the main colors. Which ideas would you borrow from this beautiful space arrangement?

ParkPraxis is a unique medical clinic welcoming patients with a warm, confident interior design. Located on the outskirts of the Sankt Pölten-Land park, its surprising stainless steel facade mirrors the green surroundings, proving once again that nature and architecture go hand in hand. The medical clinic equipped with an in-house pharmacy was designed by X Architekten for Dr. Regina Fehrmann – a family physician for the residents of three small towns in southern Austria. Occupying 224 square meters, the medical practice successfully showcases a welcoming design, that has nothing to do with cold, inhumane clinics where your body might be healed, but your mind will forever remember the inhospitable environment. This totally different clinic is based on a central glass patio surrounded by offices, laboratories and waiting spaces. A tree rises in the middle of the glass enclosure only to remind patients that nature is close by and its healing power will not be overlooked. Vividly colored details and natural light compose an idyllic space, where medicine is practiced in a comforting, welcoming environment.

Small Swedish Apartment Securing The Inhabitant’s Every Need

Naturally bright and showcasing a space composition that constructs the setting for a comfortable, modern lifestyle, this apartment found on Stadshem keeps the most important features of the old arrangement, while displaying lavish colors and textures in an up-to-date interior design. This small but cozy apartment in Gothenburg’s Lorensberg district show that even a small space can become an open floor crib adapted to our modern society. Three tall windows flood the living, dining and kitchen with natural light which bounces off the original spruce wood floors. Leading up to the bedroom space, a varnished walnut staircase breaks the monotony of white walls while hiding storage spaces underneath. A built-in bookcase reaching to the ceiling adorns the living room and connects it to the mezzanine bedroom area. This open floor living space sums up to 38 square meters of living space, including a recently renovated bathroom. Glossy white cabinet doors and a solid black granite countertop in the kitchen create a modern background for cooking at home and impose a feeling of contemporary habitable space on the whole apartment.

Odd, yet Practical: Recycled PET Bottles Stuffed with Human Hair

We recently received photos and information about The Bare Hair Project, a design that managed to capture our undivided attention. Sure, it was weird reading about it at first, but it definitely managed to intrigue us and we are curious about your reactions. Designed by Ola Giertz, these two unusual poufs in the photos below were created using recycled PET bottles and human hair: “Bare Hair was developed for Studio Västra Sandgatan, a swedish hair studio in Helsingborg, Sweden. Collecting hair waste, using it to fill poufs, made the custumers part of the process of making furniture. The project is essentially about finding possibilities and functionality in that which would otherwise be considered ugly. The transparent poufs, highlighting the originality of the stuffing, makes the product dynamic: its colour and shape can be changed depending on the stuffing, lending uniqueness to each pouf.” So…captivating or a little to out there?

Company Headquarters Displaying Interesting Architecture Details: Jansen Campus

Jansen Campus is the new headquarters of a Swiss steel and plastics company located in Oberriet, Switzerland and designed by Lugano-based practice Davide Macullo Architects. Discovered on designboom, the building complex consists of inclined panels of different sizes, having an overall interesting visual effect. Here are some descriptive details from the architects, concerning the interiors of the project: “The internal landscape is articulated as a fluid zone, acting as an extension of the urban streets of the village. A system of solids and voids expand in all directions. The apparent mass of the building is dematerialized internally, flooded with natural light. The public functions are distributed from a reception space on the ground floor. Rooms for meetings, business lunches and a restaurant all lead off this area. Beside the reception is the 'mission control' representing the operational heart of the company and acts almost like the stock market, where all information regarding the inner workings of the company is processed here in real time“. The building complex is structured on three levels, as follows: on the first floor there is a workplace, an informal meeting space and the meeting rooms, the second level accommoadates an open plan office for the communications section and the upper floor is where the boardroom and a panoramic terrace are located.

Hand Crafted Typographic Comic Book-Inspired Shazam Table

Displaying a striking typographic design, this coffee table embodies the love for comic books and their wonderful other-worldly feeling – the Shazam Table composes an appealing atmosphere tinted with a little bit of of magic. Imagined by EViL ED and Dan Robotic of Evil Robot Designs – an artistic duo creating spectacular furniture pieces that sit at the border between geek and cool – the Shazam Table was hand crafted in solid American Walnut and finished with a light gloss oil. Resting on stained black oak feet, the table was inspired by comic book sound effects and beautifully integrated within contemporary settings. Hollow on the inside, the walnut coffee table filters light and casts shadow through its 40 cm high carefully cut body – a modern interpretation of our culture seen through the eyes of its creators. The bespoke coffee table measures 100 cm in length and is 40 cm wide – why now take a tape measure and see where it would fit in your home?

We couldn’t help but delve into the world of Italian company FAPCeramiche‘s bathroom design, the results of their product combinations give a truly fascinating and fresh approach to the common bathroom tiled walls, no longer appearing as simply functional, but almost as a piece of art.

The vast collections of unique tiles now available on the market should be approached in a similar fashion to how we choose our wallpapers, being the first thought for a room scheme rather than an afterthought; browse until you find a design you truly love and base the rest of your palette and silhouettes around that.

With delicate contrasts in gloss and matt finishes, fun mosaic detailing and exquisite patterning, bathroom tiles have certainly had a great facelift. A variety of other wash room wall coverings have became popular in recent years, with many people opting for the interest and intricacy provided by wallpaper or a pot from the rainbow of bathroom paints out there, but ceramic tiles are still the most practical choice for bathroom walls. Ahead of all other materials, they will not stain from splashes, will not be damaged by corrosive cleaning products, cosmetics or moisture, and the appearance that you first fell in love with will not change, fade or peel over time.

30 Eye-Catching Interiors Featuring The Iconic Eames Lounge Chair

The first chair created by American design couple Charles and Ray Eames for the luxury market has been in our homes for 56 years. The Eames Lounge Chair adorns all kinds of spaces and we want to show you just how impressive this chair is. With time, comes experience, which can be translated here in this design’s availability in different colors and large range of materials, which construct a distinct atmosphere around it. Entangled in a story that promises to continue, molded plywood and leather were combined in what would become an iconic design. Some details were changed over the years, adapting the production to modern technology – the original chair was made out of five layers of Brazilian rosewood veneer, while the modern version displays seven thin wood veneer layers shaped under heat and pressure. Comfy cushions have a zipper on the outer edge, connecting them to a stiff plastic backing that allowed the veneer to be smooth, uninterrupted by marks of screws or bolts.

This fruitful collaboration between the husband/wife team of designers and the manufacturers - Herman Miller furniture company – resulted in developing an internationally appreciated lounge chair, initially designed as a gift for the couple’s friend Billy Wilder, the director of “Some Like It Hot” and “Sunset Blvd“. Years of development led to the release of the iconic Eames Chair in 1956 and since then, it not only inspired other furniture items or objects, but it has remained a versatile piece of furniture still being produced for the US by Herman Miller and for Europe by Vitra (see here a video on how Vitra manufactures the Eames). During its “reign”, the original Eames Chair and Ottoman has seen many copies being made – if only they had so many sources as we do now for protecting their work from design thieves – but we are all familiar with the striking impact of an original piece of furniture. Take as example the 30 eye-catching interiors featuring the iconic Eames Lounge Chair we have gathered for you, each one creating a special atmosphere and throning over different surrounding elements, unifying the interior design with a classic touch.

Constructed Around The Importance Of The Clothes : Piccino Kids Store

If you live in the city of Valencia and have kids, this project will probably become one of your favorites. The Piccino kids store displays an inspiring and refreshing design that challenges browsing for cute little clothes and gives shopping another meaning in the mind of your young ones. Inspired by the owners children, this kids clothing store was constructed around the importance of the clothes in the overall design – walls left almost white were painted with vivid colors in silhouettes of uni-colored clothes or butterflies, fitting mannequins, scissors and mirrors. Created by Valencia-based studio Masquespacio, the commercial space was described in the press release as follows: “In a parodic way old furniture is represented by vinyls that combine shelves and actual furniture with silhouettes that are making fun of classic furniture.

In the meantime the fresh colors used to represent the kids' work are getting back the modern touch to the store. Some magnetic pixels are giving the chance to the children to create their own clothes while others are watching an animation movie. Last but not least, the classic Lou Lou Ghost chair from Kartell seems to be made for this store.” Thanks to photographers Inquietud & David Rodríguez from Cualiti, we can enjoy the interiors of this carefully designed retail store until we get the chance to see it in person. Lavish Stockholm Penthouse with a 6 Meter Ridge Height

If you are looking for some meaningful apartment design inspiration, have a look at this exuberant modern penthouse located downtown Stockholm, Sweden. Found on Skeppsholmen, the duplex has a living area of 101 square meters and a total of four rooms. Wood is the defining element for the entire project, adding warmth and elegance while strongly contrasting the white walls. An open plan living room and kitchen set the tone for the minimalist home. Two of the interiors make a strong impression: the master bedroom with plenty of storage space and the exclusive bathroom with both bath and shower, Italian tiles, heated towel rail and washing machine and dryer. One of the most spectacular aspects of the duplex is a ceiling window, situated 6 meters above the bottom floor. Underfloor heating, air conditioning, spotlights and a built-in speaker system are just a few of the amenities of the penthouse. Abounding in natural light, the apartment looks spacious and welcoming.

Stockholm’s Nobis Hotel Merging Two Redesigned 19th Century Buildings

When in Stockholm, be sure to check out the Nobis Hotel – a contemporary design hotel welcoming guests with an impressive architecture made of two 19th century residential structures linked with the help of an up-to-date design. Swedish studio Claesson Koivisto Rune imagined the hotel conjuring a sense of tranquility in all 201 guest rooms, restaurants and bars, spa services and event spaces spreading over 8,750 square meters. Created “in a style of contemporary and beautiful yet timeless and classic, durable elegance, mainly in natural materials of superior quality, subtly influenced by the colors, moods and features of our Swedish Royal Capital”, Nobis Hotel Stockholm surprises first time visitors with an extravagant lobby underneath the tall atrium. Unique social zones encourage guests to interact in many ways with each other and the eclectic interior design. The luxury hotel was created to display a charming duality – it both contrasts and harmonizes with the 19th century bourgeois stone architecture of the two buildings. Refreshed 59 Square Meters Apartment In Tel-Aviv

With an affinity for fantastic spaces, architectural studio Sfaro delight us with another apartment in Tel Aviv. Remember the inspiring 40 square meter apartment in Tel-Aviv we featured a while ago? Well, this apartment is slightly larger, occupying 59 square meters, but engaging the same attention to details and space personalization as the smaller one. Located in an Israeli apartment building, this bright residential space is the result of careful floor planning – Sfaro Architects rearranged the spaces by eliminating unused corridors and closets – this allowed them to make room for a second smaller bedroom. In order to recycle the space, only the two original support columns remained as part of the new layout, the rest of the walls having been torn down. A central circulation spine was thus introduced to complement the small space and house all the storage spaces, service functions and heating/cooling systems. You can see a “before and after” photo of the main living space including the living room, open kitchen and study space being transformed from boring to fabulously modern.

This serene open plan apartment design, created by interiors visualizer Dmitry Kobtsev, has a perfect balance of earthy wood notes and clean white décor.

Wall art provides the only splashes of color in this space, which pick out the colorful book spines adorning large wooden bookshelves.

The darkness over the surface of the dining table is picked out by a fabric-covered sofa in the adjacent lounge area, a set of three nesting tables, and a matching area rug.

The crisp snowy white backdrop continues into the run of kitchen cabinets, but a warm rush of walnut wood grain runs through, creating texture and heat. The kitchen hardware compliments the horizontal pattern, with long nickel bar handles following the flow.

Silver appliances punctuate the kitchen area at each end, whilst a central kitchen island appears barely there in matching facing to the flanking slab front doors.

A beech wood floor runs throughout the light apartment, toning perfecting with the lightest hue in the kitchen, and running seamlessly into the dining chairs that sit around a contrasting black tabletop.

Transparent TV Screens For Your Living Room

The television industry has undergone a lot of changes in recent years, and TV’s are becoming more advanced than ever before. Many consumers have purchased big-screen televisions and receipt years as prices have gone down substantially. Television manufacturers are looking for new ways to boost sales and keep people coming back for more. Sometimes this includes partnerships between prominent gadget manufacturers and bank lenders with the best credit cards. Other times it requires innovations that border on gimmicks. One of the new technologies that has made a splash in recent months is the transparent LCD television. What exactly is this type of TV, and should you buy one for your living room?

What is a Transparent TV?
This type of television is a device that you can see through. When it’s sitting there, it basically looks like a piece of glass going up from a base. When the TV is off, you can see right through the middle of it as if you were looking through a window. Then when the TV powers on, the image appears on the screen, and it looks just like a regular TV screen. The glass has lighting built in that lights the screen when you turn it on.

How They Can Be Used
Many people are buying transparent televisions as a way to create a focal point in a room. Having a transparent television can be a good conversation starter, and help create something interesting in the room that gets people’s attention.

Some television manufacturers are actually working on a transparent TV that doubles as a window. You have the television installed just like a window, and you can see out of it when you want. The sunlight works to provide the back light for the TV. When you’re watching television at night, the TV has built-in lights that provide lighting. This provides you with a more energy-efficient television, and something that is really interesting for your home.

Other Uses
The window TV can also double as a computer monitor, and connect to the Internet. This way, you can check in on social networks, shop, read personal finance articles, and play music. The TV also works like blinds so that you can block out the light coming in the window if you want.

Whether you think transparent televisions are cool or tacky, they are definitely something that will become more common in the future. The decision to buy one will be up to you and your personal budget, but you have to admit that the idea is unlike anything else out there.

We recently received photos and information of a project developed by Flavio Castro and located in Guarujá, Sao Paulo, Brazil.Here is the official project description: “No frontiers between the connected environments grouped by function are the major feature of the Pernambuco house. The architect drew 4 virtual axes perpendicular to the street to organize the distribution of internal and external environments. Two of them coincide to the right and left side façade and the other two are in the middle creating a large space for access that crosses the entire project. A central zone separates the house into two other spaces. On the left is the garage and services. The kitchen opens into the social area so the visitors can participate in the preparation of meals (dissolution of the frontiers between spaces). There is a helical metal stair in the back area allowing direct access to the terrace upstairs.

On the right side there are the rooms and the freestanding metal ladder that leads to the upper floor. The same alignment dictates the distribution of external spaces such as the swimming pool and sauna that follow the axes perpendicular to the public street and form the pavilion at the backyard. Upstairs, the four suites follow the same logic of the first floor with a central hall of distribution. On the roof, the glass provides overhead lighting for the entire up floor and main floor. This opening marks the central axis as an exception. While the transparency of glass lets in sunlight, two openings next to the roof eliminate the hot air that rises through its lower density (sustainability). Modulation and symmetry were the attributes that facilitated the construction of the house”.

Gomez de la Torre & Guerrero Arquitectos designed the Graffiti House, a modern residence opening up towards its landscape in Playa Gaviotas, Peru. Stretching over a built surface of 259 square meters, the house was especially developed for a couple passionate about culinary delights and quality relaxation. The project is structured on two levels, connected with the help of a central staircase, which ultimately directs inhabitants towards the retractable roof and terrace. The large kitchen is the highlight of the second floor. State-of the-art equipment and furnishings make this a great place for the couple to improve their cooking skills. The color palette defined by red and black contrasts the white walls of the residence and ensures an overall appealing aesthetic effect. A graffiti portrait is the focal point of the inner hallway, livening up the atmosphere. How do you find it?

Manipulating Natural Materials Into Suspended Stone Installations

A wide arrangement of suspended stones make the subject of a surprising installation. Korean artist Jaehyo Lee used natural stones found in nature to construct a different arrangement than we’re used to – three dimensional constructions of manipulated nature that surprise the extensive work load leading to a nature-based, man-manipulated reality. Working with different materials – such as stone, wood, steel and nail, the artist creates interpretation of the world around us – capturing the essence of each material in a series of interesting installations. This Suspended Stone Installation includes cylinder and rounded shapes, arranged to shape tunnel or ball-like compositions - all featuring natural, non-manipulated stones hanging by threads from the ceiling and contouring these captivating shapes.

Bunk Beds vs Loft Beds – Both great for small spaces

With so many styles of bed on the market today, it can sometimes seem a daunting task to choose just one. When choosing a bed you should address what it is that you actually need from the piece of furniture in question.

For example, are you looking for a luxury bed to create a centrepiece in a large room? Do you wish to invest in a bed that utilizes space efficiently? Alternatively do you wish to make a fashion statement with the likes of a futon? Or is your bed there simply to provide you with a comfortable, supportive night's sleep? Whichever option you choose, you can guarantee that there is a style to suit your every need.

The classic two-person bunk bed is probably the best space saving option as it encapsulates two people in one area. The bunk bed utilises height rather than width, which means you have the rest of the room to play with. There are now several variations of the bunk bed available; these include the likes of futon styles and also loft versions.

The loft versions are a great option for a smaller room, as you are able to utilise the space underneath the bed to your advantage. This space could be used for the likes of a seating area, a cupboard or storage. Many children's rooms contain the above option and parents tend to place a desk beneath the bed. This space is a great option for a child, as he or she will feel like she has her own grown-up space to do her homework in!

Bunk beds are available in a huge range of different styles and materials. Many of the modern versions are available in metal, whilst the more traditional styles come in the form of pine or other painted or varnished wood.

As long as you team the style of the bed to the rest of the room, everything will generally tie in stylishly together.

If you are a fan of unusual accommodation, wait till you see this crazy hotel room! Designed by Japanese artist Tazu Rous, this temporary private space situated 75 feet above the ground in Ghent, Belgium, was developed around the giant clock belonging to the local train station. Seen on technabob, the project is original to say the least. Since its inauguration, the hotel room got many strange, yet creative reviews- it was even associated with a torture chamber (although we don’t believe it still rings every hour). The designer explained that the tower hotel is a way of paying tribute to a city landmark, which the inhabitants of Ghent, as well as tourists from all over the world, can experience up close. Booking a stay in this intriguing giant clock room costs 105 Euros per night. Would you consider spending a night here?

Absorbing Swedish Apartment Blending Color and Personality

104 square meters were just enough for the designers to exercise their imagination and turn this Swedish apartment located in a historic building, into an inspiring modern home. As you can see from the plans in the last photo of the post, the stylish loft consists of two bedrooms, a generous open plan living room and a single bathroom- a layout that is just enough to meet the needs of a growing family. Purple was the color employed to liven up the living room, an interior reminiscent of the building’s historic past. Exposed wooden beams and a traditional fireplace give the place the warmth it needs for social gatherings. The bedrooms are small, yet comfortable and practical. U-Shaped Residence in Missouri With a Spectacular Outdoor Courtyard

Hufft Projects Studio completed the design for a project entitled Curved House and located in Springfield, Missouri, USA. The residence displays a “U”-shape and clean, distinctive lines. The focal point of the entire property is an outdoor courtyard, with a large swimming pool and a custom fire pit, perfect for romantic encounters and memorable parties. Here are more details provided by the architects: “A signature masonry wall gently curves in two places signifying both the primary entrance and the western wall of the pool cabana. An eclectic and vibrant material palette of brick, Spanish roof tile, Ipe, Western Red Cedar, and various interior finish tiles add to the dramatic expanse of the residence. The client's interest in suitability is manifested in numerous locations, which include a photovoltaic array on the cabana roof, a geothermal system, radiant floor heating, and a design which provides natural daylighting and views in every room“. How to brighten up your outdoor space/garden

It doesn't take much to brighten up an outdoor space/garden. Just a little thought, planning and execution can transform your place and provide a real atmosphere. From outdoor furniture to a new paint job, a few small tweaks here and there can provide a major difference,

When people put so much time, effort and energy into planning and maintaining the inside of their house, often the outdoors get left behind. But with a bit of work here and there, you can have something that is quite special. This will allow you to enjoy the outdoors.

First and foremost is some garden and patio furniture. Finding the right pieces can provide an atmosphere that is inviting and warm. You should begin the quest for the right furniture by searching for a material that will work with the vibe of the area. It could be wood, metal or plastic.

You also need to factor in that the furniture could be sitting outside and exposed to the elements. Should this be the case, you want something that is going to hold up and not get too easily damaged by rain and wind.

Obviously you have to work around a budget but the reality of the situation is that you can buy some amazing things that are cheap and some awful pieces that are expensive. So look around and find something that besides looking good is also cost-effective. You will want something that is going to blend with the existing color scheme so bear this in mind.

It's amazing how some small things can have such a major impact. Something like a hammock can create a special vibe where people just want to relax and chill. If you have young kids, a trampoline could prove a real focal point.

Pieces of art work such as sculpture have the ability to attract the eye and be a real conversation starter. Lamps can look good and will also provide light.

In terms of furniture that is going to be good at being resilient to the elements you have teak and wrought iron.

Don't be afraid to use color. You can have colorful pillows, cushions and furniture in order to create a fun and relaxing aesthetic.

One mistake people make is to only worry about the day. You want quality lighting so that your fun can continue once the sun goes down, especially in summer. Buy some decent lighting so that you can still entertain once it's dark. You don't want the mood to be dampened because the light isn't that good.

If you are outside, you have the option of using plants and trees to create a vibe. Flowers and plants can contribute to a setting that makes people comfortable. On top of this, trees that are going to provide shade are going to be valuable especially in the summer. What isn't good is a lot of leaves all over the ground, so you may want to avoid trees that are going to shed leaves everywhere.

Outside you may have to choose between grass, concrete, tiles or some other flooring? You could pave it and use some paving paint. What you go for depends on the rest of the area. There are pros and cons to each of the options so it depends on your circumstances.

Painting the walls never fails to hurt. Feel free to give the paint job a bit of a touch up.

Many people forget about the outdoors and the area is neglected. You can make it something special with just a bit of time and effort.

This hot pink and cool gray combination creates a vibrant but balanced scheme that despite its shocking slashes of color does not appear overpowering.

The neutrally hued walls are given character with the addition of a typographical theme, which is both fun and stylish, and cleverly draws the eye away from what could have appeared as an unsightly bulkhead.

1. Colour theme: Pale and pastel colours to get a successful romantic look. You can choose from a large palette of soft shades, from dusky pink and lilac through to lemon and periwinkle blue. You can also combine two colours that go well together, like cream and soft green, but most romantic decors tend to be produced with one colour associated with small sophisticated additions to keep an uncluttered feel.

2. Bed: The choice of the bed is important as it will generally make the main statement in your bedroom. Romantic style bedrooms are generally furnished with large sized dramatic beds that give a presence to the room, such as four poster beds and large ornate wrought iron bed frames.

3. Headboard: Considering the space most of us have to work with, a four poster bed is sometimes not the best option since this is an imposing piece of furniture. Gone are the days when kids just hummed nursery rhymes and put up with the things that we gave them, including their bathrooms. Now, children are more creative, imaginative and choosy about their things and their space, even their bathrooms. They know exactly what they want and why.

For parents, it's a challenging task to build or create bathroom for your kids, with the mood and decor that would match their children’s ideas and still be a well designed room in their home.

With that in mind, here are a few ideas to consider when designing a child’s bathroom:

- Consider the mood of the space; it is needless to say that it should be be cheerful and peppy. After all, it is for the kids!

– Make it a great place for your kids to exchange moments of sharing, talking, splashing water. Make it fun filled, with bold themes and color. They tend relate more with colors, patterns and images that communicate with them. It's the place from which they start and end their day, so keep the tone and emotion positive and lively.

– Give them a well-planned storage area for every little thing, right from toiletries to towels and a lot more that can be part of the their realm. Arrange it with soft texture and tidy organisation tricks that send intelligent, yet cute messages across.

- Make everything accessible to them. Stepping stools are a perfect addition and use low mounted racks for towels. Use the space beneath the sink for shelves to neatly store their bath toys. Sinks could be mounted low, so that it's reachable for your kids, along with a mirror on the wall. Make the mirror fun with one that is shaped into a cartoon character, say – a Mickey Mouse or other character your kids love. Remember, this idea infuses the sense of independence in them and gives you a break!

- Spruce up the decor and the accessories with personality. Add the perfect selection of towels and accessories that are colorful with fun shades and images. Linens like towels, curtains, and floor mats should be colorful and can have images of animals, fish or frogs in true colours will keep them company in the bathroom. Images of the sea, boats and ships could create an aquatic ambiance for them.

- Don’t forget necessary accessories like towel rails, toilet paper holders, and soap dishes. These too can be found in different themes and colors.

- The floor and the walls can be made of design tiles, in bright festive colors and hues. Decorations on the walls can include things like funny vinyl stickers and creative wall tiles. Pull together the design with sketches, murals or wall art.
