Want to discover the hottest young design talent in furnishing, lighting, soft furnishings and accessories? Then New Design Britain at interiors is the place to be.

Featuring this year’s hottest young design talent in furnishing, lighting, soft furnishing and accessories, interiors 2011 will be hosting this year’s New Design Britain finalists.

New Design Britain is one of the most important competitions in a new designer's diary. New Design Britain has a prestigious panel of judges including M&S, House of Fraser, Design Factory, Heals, ACID and Barbara Chandler . The winners of each of the five categories will be eligible several valuable prizes!

The categories for 2011 are:
Furniture includes cabinet, bedroom, kitchen – internal and external furniture
Fabrics includes textiles & fabrics for curtains, and upholstery
Accessories includes lighting, tableware, decorative & soft furnishings
Surface coverings includes surfaces for wall, ceiling and floor
Flooring includes rug or wall hanging

Barjis Rug Design Competition is the latest addition to the New Design Britain Awards, launching at interiors 2011. A week long trip to Bejing, China and an open paid internship with BARJIS are the main prizes awarded to the creator of a winning 100% wool, hand-tufted rug design. Lorna Wilby

Lorna Wilby, a Designer Maker student from the University of Plymouth, has designed 'Strange Behavior' - a unique free standing coat hanger. This coat hanger is un-like any other. This original piece is that it is both functional, as a coat stand, and sculpturally striking. It is inspired by the famous surrealist artist Salvador Dali and is cleverly made, using wooden dowels and laminated ply. Overall this coat stand is a success. It adds to a space and is aesthetically intriguing and practical within the home.

Phil Crook

In response to his research on domestic trends, and in particular, open-plan living, De Montfort Furniture student Phil Crook has designed a multi-functional Dining Station that transforms from a kitchen island / sideboard into a dining table / desk. With an ergonomic, height-adjustable tabletop Phil Crook has given the ‘Station’ a contemporary aesthetic that would integrate as well into a kitchen as it would an open-plan dining scenario and will, he hopes, contribute to the increasing the popularity of dining at a table.

Jennifer Jones

Jennifer Jones, a Woven Textiles graduate from Winchester School of Art, has designed a selection of hand woven cloths. Designed and produced for the Interiors market. Each sample being a tribute, in some way to the heritage of the textile industry in one of each of the four parts of Britain that make up the British Isles, England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Lynsey Henderson

Lynsey Henderson, a M.F.A student at Edinburgh College of Art, specializing in printed textiles, has designed a range of wallpapers which are intrinsically Scottish.

All base materials used have been sourced from local Scottish manufacturers and as the designs are all hand printed and designed by herself, a Scot, in Scotland she feels the designs are authentic.

“It was great to win the NDBA in 2010 and it was such a great platform to showcase my work. I met with lots great people from industry many who I still keep in touch with and who have helped me out with projects I have completed since. I think what was best about the show and winning was the amount about people I met, contact wise, and the networking opportunities, not only with established interior firms but also from emerging talents with the designers that I showed my work along side.

Going up for the award i was a nervous wreck but getting a big shinny award showed me that all my hard work is finally starting to pay off - I would recommend it to everyone!”
