Do you know how easily someone could break into your home through one of the doors? If you don’t know, you need to find out. Almost 66% of burglaries occur in residences. 62% occur during daylight hours. 60% happen while people are at home. For this reason, door security is your first line of defense against intruders - at any hour.

Door security has four components:

- The right door

- The correct locks

- Putting the locks in the right places

- The right burglar/intrusion alarm

First, you need the right door. This might be a high-security steel door. If you have a patio or balcony, you might want to install French doors or a sliding glass door. This would not present a door security risk if you are above the second floor of a building. On the first or second floor, you might need additional safeguards.

The second step: put the right locks on the doors. Locks are not an item on which you want to sacrifice quality for price. They are a critical part of door security. Choose a door knob or door lever with a good lock. The best locks will be those that are opened by typing in a code or by recognition of fingerprints. An intruder will have a far more difficult time getting these open.

If you have doors with large amounts of glass, you might need a three-point lock. These locks penetrate the door frame at the top and bottom of the door, not just at the side. They are generally indicated for French doors, back and basement doors with a top half that is mostly glass, and any other type of door that is largely glass. A deadbolt that locks with a key on both sides is the second type of lock you will probably want on every door. Patio doors and sliding glass doors also frequently need another line of defense. You can purchase a small lock that attaches to the base of both panels of the door to prevent opening. There are also rods that either attach to the door or lay in the slide track to prevent opening. These types of locks should together cover this aspect of door security.

Installing locks in the right places is the third part of door security. Placing a deadbolt just above the doorknob might make sense if you have a solid door (no windows). It is not, however, the best location in a door with a large amount of glass. This would place the deadbolt right beside the window. It would be better positioned close to the floor where it cannot be reached through the window. It is important to look at the door and think about the best place to position locks and the best lock for the specific door before installing.

Fourth, good door security requires the right alarm. Most alarm systems place magnetized sensors in the door and the door frame. These activate the alarm if the door is opened. But what if an intruder breaks out the windows and climbs in through the opening? Doors with a large window can be used without leaving you vulnerable. This is accomplished with a glass-break sensor. The instant the glass is broken, the sensor responds to the sound by activating the alarm. The glass-break sensor might be your first warning that someone is trying to enter your home. Activation of the alarm might be enough to scare off an intruder.

You can keep your family safe at home by ensuring door security. You can choose and install good locks in the right places in the right doors. And you can install the right alarm system to protect your family.

It’s never too late to protect your family. With the economy in the worst state it has been in in a long time more and more people could consider doing things to support themselves and their family they would not have considered in the past. Burglary and thefts are on the rise and the average home theft means losing over $2,000 in property or cash. Can you or your family afford that kind of loss? One thing that can help keep you safe and put your mind at ease is getting your home rigged with wireless alarms.

It is now easier than it may have been in the past to secure protection for your home, your family, and your belongings. Wireless alarms are easily installed and they don’t take hours and hours of installation time either. Working on batteries instead of electric, these alarms will keep your home protected even if your electricity happens to go out.

There are many places you can find information on these wireless systems just by doing a search on the internet. Just like anything else it is wise to shop around before committing to any system so you can have a good idea of what these systems can do for you, how much they cost, and which one is right for you. There are systems with varying functions as well as a wide range of pricing, so shopping around to get the best deal is always a good idea.

Hard wired systems and wireless alarms both have their pros and cons. That’s why it is important to do your homework and get the one that’s right for you. There are plenty of experts available to answer your questions for whichever companies you choose to deal with, but always ask questions so you know exactly what you want before getting any alarm system installed.

A hard wired system is usually the best call when building a home. The wireless systems are likely the better choice however in a home that already exists. There is no need to drill any holes or have to rip down any walls to get the system installed. Simply find where you want it and stick the pieces to the wall or windows and your done. Installing a hard wired system will require more work and more time to get installed, but in the case of new construction will be easier because the system can be installed prior to the walls going up.

There are many devices to choose from when making a decision to buy wireless alarms. You can find wireless motion detectors, window alarms, and door alarms among other wireless safety related devices. You can get things such as keychain alarms or other little handheld devices to protect your personal safety, as well as devices that can keep track of the whereabouts of your children or keep thieves out of your car.

The choices are many in the land of wireless alarms, and whatever you choose will come down to a matter of personal preference. Whether you decide that wireless alarms or a hard wired alarm system is right for you, at least you will have the peace of mind of knowing your home and family are protected.

Wherever we live, our houses are the place that we store our most dear items. We work hard to gather the nice things in life and need them to be safe at our homes. We lock our doors and windows when we leave or when we go to bed at night to make sure we and our possessions are safe. If you live in a studio, a residence security system is a neat idea.

There are different rules for which kinds of alarm systems you may have in an apartment. If wires need to be run and a hole has to be drilled to run the line, the alarm company will have to get authorization from the owner. If the landlord doesn’t give them the authorization that they require your selections in the alarm system might be limited.

As long as the landlord gives the permission you can get an alarm system just like someone that lived in a house. You may have monitors on your doors and windows which will alert the alarm company if someone attempts to break in. In most cases you will have a key pad just within the door that will be used to arm and disable the alarm system.

All you need to do is punch in a code as you leave the apartment and shut the door behind you. The alarm will then be armed. When you come home you will unlock the door and instantly go to the alarm box and punch in a code to unarm it.

If someone was to try and break into the loft, a particularly loud alarm will sound and alert the people next door that there is an intruder. The alarm company will also get notice and will immediately call the authorities and have them come to your residence to provide help.

If the alarm is set off on accident, say you forget to push in the code after you open the door, you will need to contact the alarm company and tell them that it isn’t a critical situation and that you are alright. Watch out because some alarm firms charge a further fee for a fake alarm call.

Installing an apartment alarm system will help you keep your belongings and loved ones safe from the perpetrators that can come to your door or window. All you need to do is check with the landlord to see if they have any restrictions on the kind of alarm that you can install.

Do you need to store personal or business documents for seven or more years? No stress self-storage can be a good solution. After all, why would you use needed office space that is expensive when self storage prices are a lot cheaper? There are some self storage companies that also offer a document storage facility.

Document self storage will guarantee that every document you have is safe. Storage firms use climate control technology in the warehouse, which not only manages the optimum temperature inside the unit, but even takes care of the humidity levels. This will ease your mind and also give you an empty area in your office.

An organized system makes it simple for you to find your important papers whenever you need them, 24 hours a day. There are also specialized document storage businesses that can provide this for you.

You might be trying to determine which businesses will provide the best answer for your problem.

Here are several suggestions to think about before picking a company:

How safe is the facility where you will be keeping your documents?

Do they have close circuit TV security systems on site?

Is there a security guard on the premises at all times?

Is there a fire extinguisher and alarm at the site?

Is there a policy against smoking on site?

How long will it take them to send me a needed document? How much does it cost?

Besides these, there are a number of other technologies with attractive aspects that are increasingly being used by storage firms. This has guaranteed a very secure preservation of your goods at costs that perfectly fit your budget.

Type the keywords “self storage” on Google, locate the best businesses and call them to be certain that they have some of the things that were previously mentioned so you can avoid wasting time and future problems.

To get the best self defense from a stun gun you should know how it works. When you buy a stun gun learn how it works so you use it in the best way. Here is some information about the principle workings and mechanics of a stun gun.

Stun guns jumble up the electrical pulses in a body. These are the pulses that are being sent from the brain to other parts of the body telling the other parts what to do, such as “OK, raise your arm”. These electrical pulses control every function and movement of the body. When a stun gun is applied to an attacker those electrical pulses go awry. As an example, the electrical pulse being sent to the arm gets rerouted to the leg and the arm does not perform as it was instructed. This is because of the very low amperage sent from the stun gun into a body.

A stun gun causes the brain to go on vacation for a few seconds and the body shuts down. When this happens a great deal of energy is used up by the body. This energy is depleted because the blood sugar level in the body becomes seriously low. The body is sometimes paralyzed momentarily and the attacker cannot function at all. Maybe except to drool a little bit!

The way stun guns work is actually pretty simple. They get their power usually from a little 9 volt battery or they can be rechargeable. Inside the stun gun are transformers that increase the voltage of the battery and at the same time reduce the amperage that is sent into the body. This is not a continuous action as there is a little oscillator that produces a pulsing effect. A capacitor inside the stun gun builds up a charge and sends it to the electrodes at the top of the stun gun. These electrodes are what come in contact with an attacker. That is all there is to the workings of a stun gun. Simple, huh?

The great thing about stun guns is that when the current is unable to flow across the double electrodes in the top, the current will go to the two test electrodes. They are close together which allow the flow of energy to leap between each of them. As the current moves it ionizes the air particles and results in a spark that is visible. You can also hear a crackling noise that is very intimidating. The purpose of this is so attackers can see that you have a stun gun. Usually the visible sign of the electrodes sparking and the sound of the crackling is enough of a deterrent for personal protection. Most attackers will go away.

As you have seen, stun guns are actually pretty simple self defense products. There are many different sizes and models to choose from. They all do basically the exact same thing and that is deliver a very small electric current with about 3 milliamps into the body. They all use a 9 volt battery or are rechargeable. They all disrupt the signal from the brain and incapacitate an attacker.

Keep in mind that when stun guns are used, the electrodes have to be touching the assailant. They are very effective in disabling a person and temporarily paralyzing them. You cannot kill someone when you use a stun gun on them. Also, the voltage going into the attackers body will not pass back to you even if you are touching the attacker.

CCTV , which stands for closed-circuit television, refers to a camera with a limited number of recipients. The feed from the camera is sent either through a direct, physical line to televisions or recording devices, whereas broadcast television cameras are designed for mass consumption. The primary uses for CCTV include security for stores, banks, military sites, casinos and for governmental policing of public property. While CCTV was a crude device at its outset, it has developed a number of features and technology since.

Police cannot be everywhere at once, but the CCTV can monitor nearly any activity in suspicious areas, or high crime areas for just a fraction of the price. Not only that, but if the feed from a police CCTV Camera is being recorded, they may make solving a crime easier and cheaper by having it on tape. For these and other reasons, police all over the world make use of CCTV in order to do more with less. London, in the United Kingdom, is famous for having the highest number of CCTV cameras per capita, but they are also utilized in most developed countries.

The private sector is not unfamiliar with CCTV; it is used in department stores, casinos, banks, malls, gas stations and convenience stores. In casinos, cameras are used to deter and catch cheating, in banks, to deter and catch bank robbers, and in gas stations, to deter and catch individuals that might try to steal gasoline. At gas stations, CCTV can also be used to ensure no one is smoking cigarettes at the gas pumps, or with the newest technology where a two-way microphone is attached to the CCTV Camera, to assist customers in troubleshooting the gas pumps.

Individuals use the CCTV to protect their homes from thieves, stalkers, and other violent people. Or, they may use it for something as simple as seeing who is at the front door. If the CCTV is being recorded, then even if the homeowner is not at home at the time of a robbery, they still may be able to review the tapes and gather valuable evidence about the suspect and the crime. Additionally, some parents use CCTV in order to record babysitters in order to ensure that their children are being treated appropriately.

CCTV is also used in industrial settings. Certain locations in energy plants, whether they are electric, water, nuclear, or electricity plants, are unsafe for employees. If something were to go wrong in one of these places, a room full of electricity conductors for instance, human intervention may be required. However, for round the clock monitoring, CCTV is not only safer for employees, but cost-beneficial as well because one employee can monitor ten rooms. Also, the same organizations may use CCTV for security purposes inside the plant and around its perimeter.

One of the more novel features added to CCTV systems is the IP camera. This camera is connected to the internet, not so that anyone can view the feeds, but rather so that the owner or the user of the CCTV system can log on to any computer with an internet connection and watch. Anther feature on the modern CCTV Camera is the ability for the camera to pan across its view on its own, but also by the control of a remote user.

The opportunities for a CCTV system are virtually endless. Some gas stations now have CCTV Cameras at the pumps along with a two-way intercom to troubleshoot with a customer having trouble pumping his gas without leaving the store. Surely you can find a CCTV system suited to your purpose.

In 1852 the American Edward Holmes invented the first electro-mechanical burglar alarm. Prior to this the family watch dog was the usual form of protection from intruders. Holmes’ invention was quite simple. Trip wires were places around windows and doors. When a wire was disturbed a solenoid struck a gong, thus alerting the residents of possible danger. It was well received by the public, and was not improved upon until the next century.

A basic burglar alarm is comprised of 3 separate parts that work in conjunction with each other. There is the main control unit, or the brain of the system, a detection device, and the sounder or siren. Different triggers that a detection device can sense are heat, motion, shock, noise, vibration, and smoke (if the unit also doubles as a smoke detector). Depending on what type of detection device is installed, the trigger will alert the control unit, the data will be quickly analyzed, and then the siren will be sounded, if necessary.

A wireless burglar system is relatively easy to install, and doesn’t require a specialist. Every component of the wireless system contains a radio transmitter/receiver which allows the detection device to communicate with the control unit. With this setup there are no worries about running wire, the parts can be placed just about anywhere, and it is easy to add onto the system or move it around.

A monitored Home security system allows the home to be protected 24 hours a day by an alarm company. When a detection device is triggered the alarm is set off and the information is sent to the alarm company monitoring the system. This gives the homeowner peace of mind when they are not at home. There is also minimal maintenance to the homeowner, as the agency hired to install and monitor your home will also ensure that the system is always operable.

Magnetic switches can be used on doors and windows as a burglar alarm. They are very easy to install and maintain. In the simplest terms, there is a magnet and a switch that are lined up on the door or window. When the connection is broken between the two, i.e. the door is opened, then the alarm goes off. The draw-back to this is when the window or door is then closed, the alarm will usually stop.

There are many reasons to have a burglar alarm, and the wealthy and business owners are no longer the only ones able to afford the alarms. Burglars are not always after money and valuables. These systems also protect your loved ones. They have also become very affordable, and offer different benefits, depending on the needs of the homeowner.

When shopping for a burglar alarm, it is important to choose carefully. Some things to take into account are: can you do it yourself, or will you need professional help, how much money you have available to invest in the system, and why you need the alarm. To be completely satisfied with your choice, research all types of burglar alarms. You will then be able to make an educated decision as to the type that will best fit your needs.

When it comes to optimizing the effectiveness of an outdoor security camera the most important thing is capturing useful video images. The first obstacle that most outdoor conditions poise is night surveillance since outdoor environments are little more difficult to control than indoor environments. At night it may be a challenge to provide enough light for the camera’s image sensors to pick up anything. That is when the alternatives must be considered.

While it is not always an option, installing additional lighting to the area is one way we can make sure the outdoor security camera captures usable video footage. A simple system like a light that is controlled by a person is not always viable when there may not be a person to do the job. There are also motion activated lights as well as motion activated cameras that begins recording only when there is some movement detected. The important part is that the light is sufficient in illuminating the security camera’s entire field of view.

It is not always as simple as adding an additional light source to illuminate the area in every case. Some conditions require the lighting to stay low, or it is not economically feasible to create a line just for a new bulb. Whatever the case is, if the lighting is simply low and nowhere near complete darkness, then using a black and white camera might be enough to solve the problem since these cameras require much lower light to produce an image.

Night vision security cameras come in varying degrees of effectiveness measured by the LUX rating of the camera. The LUX rating lets us know the minimum light levels required for the security camera to work. The infrared technology records light at a frequency beyond what is visible to our eyes and produces the image in shades of green. The LUX rating is only useful when comparing between similar manufacturers because it is relative to their standards. By itself it doesn’t tell us much except that a LUX rating of 0 means the camera can produce an image in complete darkness.

An outdoor security camera definitely has much more demands than an indoor camera because of the harsh environment it is installed in. However, there are numerous ways to tackle any specific problem and lighting should be the most basic of challenges you will face. There are vandalism and weather conditions to be taken into consideration as well so be ready to protect your security camera.

Some basic ways to protect your camera is by installing it with as many threats in mind as possible. Housing is recommended especially for areas that are high risk of physical abuse by either malicious attacks or weather extremities. How the camera is installed and mounted and how the cables are managed are all things that will minimize the chances of the surveillance equipment from being damaged and rendered useless.

If you have a video security system installed in or around your home, you’re making a highly intelligent step towards the safety of your family.

A video security system will help safeguard your home and loved ones from burglary, damage, and dangerous situations. When these types of security systems are in a home, they are often placed in a very visible area to warn would-be offenders what they are up against. Just the visual appearance of video recording apparatuses on a home can be good deterrents toward criminals. This can help to prevent some opportunistic crimes from occurring.

Our current economy has caused a crisis. Criminals have gotten bolder, and they will readily break into any home that is susceptible to burglary to make a quick buck. Some criminals have even gotten desperate enough to carry out home invasions. Homeowners have to take decisive action to prevent such attacks to their homes and families. Make that step towards securing what matters to you. The success of your business can depend on having a video security system installed there. A business that is left unprotected is a target for burglaries and criminal activity. Vandalism can also occur on a place of business that isn’t watched over by video surveillance. Don’t leave your livelihood in the hands of fate.

When you use video security systems to protect your place of business you can feel at ease when you are off property. You’ll know that your livelihood is being properly protected. Businesses lacking this kind of protection often get broken into and vandalized. If your property is vandalized, even if nothing is stolen, the damage will set you back. This will cause a monetary loss for you either way.

Many criminals break into businesses because they think that there may be valuables left there after business hours. Criminals think that this can be an easy and fast way to make money. You should take this risk very seriously, especially if you keep profitable items in your place of business. You can feel better, knowing that your business is safe when you are away from it. You can be sure of it by accessing your video security system over the internet to monitor any suspicious activity.

Simple surveillance systems can be installed by the homeowner or business owner. There are more complicated video security systems that can be professionally installed in the home or office, as well. Homeowners and business owners can decide what type of security system is right for them and their security needs.

Homeowners and business owners alike should look into purchasing video security systems to secure their properties. You can buy these systems at different levels of technology. There are small, do-it-yourself systems that can be installed by the property owners, and there are more complicated systems for larger businesses that can be professionally installed and maintained.

Do you value your home and business? If yes, protect it, and the best way to do that is to install a security camera system. Finding the right security camera that suits you can be challenging, however some essential considerations can help you land to the right decision.

First consideration would be area of coverage. State of the art security cameras captures wider view than previous models; but, multiple cameras are needed to ensure total coverage of the area. It is advisable to cover all possible entrances should be covered. Most people prefer for an alternative, covering the prospect exits. Some choose installing either with traditional burglar alarms or complex lock systems. It doesn’t really how many cameras you choose, as long as your security camera system should let you expand if the needs arises.

Secondly, you should be concerned of who should be monitoring the system. Is it home-viewed? When running a business which staff will be responsible for monitoring the video display? Can we capture video (if needed get the audio) for future assessment? Does it store data? In terms of data storage, don’t provide low quality computer equipment for your security camera. The video data will be useless if you cant recover it easily in times of emergency.

Third to consider in getting a camera system would be taking care of monitoring the system. Most business owners prefer remote-viewing. Can we capture video (and in some cases audio) for future assessment? Data storing needs high quality computer equipment for your security camera. These video data will be used in times of emergency.

Furthermore, merging audio and video surveillance can also be considerable option. Audio capability adds significantly to the cost of your system, but can be well worth it in some cases, alerting you or your employees to a problem you might not notice otherwise. Color video cameras produce sharper and more accurate images, but black and white security cameras are still the most commonly used.

Appropriate lighting of the area ensures security cameras will be able to capture any unauthorized access. Its crucial to check the lights on a regular basis, replacing any broken bulbs. Lighting problems can make your security cameras useless. Night-vision cameras are available, but they tend to be more expensive than traditional security cameras.

Many different security camera systems are available on the market. Closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems are popular in retail outlets, giving real-time images of areas not easily seen and preventing shoplifting and vandalism. CCTV systems are also used to have good effect for securing the perimeters of private homes and property. Spy cameras, also known as nanny-cams, allow you to watch your employees when you cant be there in person. While not security cameras in the traditional sense, they can be part of a complete security camera system.

Some companies offer dummy cameras, which are non-operational duplicates of security cameras. While these afford some people peace of mind, they render no protection against theft or vandalism. Most reputable security companies discourage their use, since criminals can usually tell the difference between a working security camera and a dummy camera. Installing a working security camera system in a company is greatly valued by insurance companies that they give discounts; such discounts are not offered for companies that uses dummy systems. This alone should indicate that false cameras provide no real security for your valuables.

Most security cameras are fused with other security measures like burglar alarms and secure locks. This provides near perfect security for your company and valuables, by combining the benefits of remote monitoring of your security system with accurate forensic evidence in video form. Security cameras are a criminals toughest enemy; many criminals have been arrested because a security camera recorded their deeds.

When you think about having insurance discounts, protection against theft and vandalism, and the true peace of mind that the right security camera system can give you and your company, the cost of a security camera seems very reasonable. The timely question is: Will you gamble good security with a portion of investment?
