HomeSkilletFest Fundraiser Featuring

After hearing his tracks, hearing his live set, we decided it would be in both parties interest to collaborate on a project and release an album.  RP connected with beatmaker Ill Pill, also from the Seattle area, and created, “The Kids in the Back.”  An album that is both fun and somber in the correct places.

As with anything related to Sonny, the song comes with a story. You see, his toyota van broke down the last time he was in Portland for a show. He had to rent another van to take his band back to their homes in San Francisco. Those costs were high.

Hence, his Portland family got together to throw a, “bring back the winny to San Francisco” benefit. As I sit on a couch and write, he is playing, “Year of the Cock.” A Sonny Smith house concert is quite a treat.

He also informed me of his desire to release a 7″ full of new material and comics for the July HomeSkillet Fest. This is something to look forward to for fans of Sonny and champions of the label. The picture posted is of Sonny and his friend Garth playing music in their friend Chris’s living room.  It was a late night.

Phonetic/Employee of The Weak.  This is Phonetics sophomore album, we are pleased to welcome Phonetic to the budding Homeskillet roster.  With the launch of this album, Phonetic will be on tour throughout the AK with his Home Invasion Tour.   Watch for his collaboration with Rhymesayers artist Eyedea!

Sonny Smith will be releasing a 7″ vinyl project with Homeskillet records in July!

Silver Jackson is currently in the studio recording music for a 7″ Vinyl Project set to release in July!

LSF is also in the studio, set to release a 7″ Vinyl project due out in July!

We shot the video at Madison High School in Portland, Oregon, the same place Paranoid Park was film. It might have even been the same room. We’ll be posting more media soon - the new album is hot and will be for sale here and on iTunes.

Hank has been a blessing to the music community in Sitka and has always lent a helping hand wherever he could.  We recently were informed that Hank has been battling cancer and we have decided to work with local non-profits to throw a benefit concert for him.

We’re not sure when, we’re not sure where, but we’re doing it.  If you have any ideas or would like to volunteer, please leave a comment to this post or contact us. Keep checking back for more info.

We were so busy planning the festival we didn’t do anything about promoting the four new albums we released. But first, how about some perspective. In our first four years as a label, we released a measly four albums. Side hustles have feelings too, so it’s not that we are ashamed of that, it’s just…low.

This year, on the ramp up to Home Skillet Fest, we planned four brand new releases - three out of the four from the original Home Skillet Records Artists, Jed Delong, Silver Jackson, and Little Stones Father - leaving GEO as the only member left to put out a release.

We are going to try and do a series of video interviews for the artists behind these albums - but for now, find satisfaction in listening to these sweet sweet releases.
