IS THAT AN OXYMORON?

I’ve been thinking a lot about furniture for my home. For instance, in my family room, I want a white slipcovered sofa. Am I nuts??? I have three BOYS for goodness sake.

My boys ruin everything. No matter how much we talk to them. No matter how many rules we make for the house, they find some sort of way to mess things up.

If it gets dirty, I can remove the cover and wash it. Or I could simply spot clean it if need be.

I was on Pinterest this morning and came across a dining room and when I clicked on the source, it took me to the Nate Show website. Of course I got to clicking through the site and I came across this clip about Nate showing a guest how to decorate a space with $30 a week. What the smurf?!?! I can do that!!! And I think if I did it this way, I can actually complete my family room! AND I think that if my husband sees me putting the room together slowly but surely, he’ll pitch in and add the flatscreen and new carpet.

Did you watch the clip? I’ll wait

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Ok, see what I’m talking about? I bet we all can do this for at least one room in our house, right??? Because many of the pieces I want for my living room are from Ikea, this plan is PERFECT for my family room. Shoot, it would even work for my bedroom and the boys room. What about a Master bathroom? This may be the way I decorate for now on! And because I am a DIY’er, I’m sure it would take me no time because everything won’t have to be new! Now it’s just a matter of staying focused. Y’all know I bounce around a bit (ok, A LOT!!).

So do you think you can put a room together on $30 a week? Who’s down for a challenge? That would be FUN!

Happy Saturday guys!

I pulled two of these out of my “stash” in the garage. I’m hoping to squeeze these babies in at the end of my sofa. So far, I ‘m thinking that may be a stretch, but we’ll see. is the article titled ‘Does Your Décor Tell Your age?’ written by Valerie Hart.

In the article, Valerie mentioned how she shared a picture of her living room and a blogging friend of hers thought she was a “young 30-something chick”. I found that to be quite interesting. It made me look around my home and think about other spaces I’m drawn to. Does my home tell my age? Is it hip or mature? I would like to think that it’s a combination of the two.

Another part of the article that made me think about how I decorate my home AND how I think about myself being a young mother was a quote from Diane von Furstenberg. She said “When I was young, I lived like an old woman, and when I was old, I had to live like a young person”. I always think that because I have children I have to be more of a conservative woman. I often see homes of other women my age without children and wish my home could be as chic as theirs. I mean seriously, they don’t have to worry about juice mishaps and crayon wall art. I also struggle with what’s appropriate in a home with children. Like a bar?

or a cream sofa…

Although I do have children, I hope that the way I decorate my home allows even a smidge of my youth to shine through. I also hope that I don’t allow my age to determine how I decorate my home later in life. It’s not about trying to hold on to being young, but rather not allowing your age determine how hip you can be.

DOES YOUR DÉCOR TELL YOUR AGE?!

Be sure to check out the article in House of Fifty. So I flipped the BB over and started fresh, this time adding the wood conditioner before the stain.

Guess what? I’m not sure how schools work in other states, but here in Georgia, there is a lottery set up where children at the age of four can attend pre-k free of charge. For my oldest, he wasn’t lucky enough to be chosen so I kept him home with me and my at the time 3 and 2 year olds until he started kindergarten the following year. When he did go to kindergarten, my 4 year olds name was drawn in the lottery so they both went to school together!

<img style="background-image: none;
Fast forward two years and it is now time for us to place my youngest son’s name in the lottery drawing (tomorrow).

<img style="background-image: none;
To say that I am beyond excited to possibly have 3 children out of the house for seven hours is an understatement. It’s been a LONG time coming and I can just imagine how the first day will be. I will actually be entering a new stage in my life. For those of you with multiple children, I’m sure you understand where I’m coming from.

Well, here is where things get tricky. For starters, they may not pull Brendan’s name tomorrow (which I have already prepared myself for). But what I haven’t prepared myself for is the fact that I may have to homeschool my oldest son which means I could possibly be home with TWO boys AGAIN…

<img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px;
Since school started back from winter break, my son has had behavior and emotional problems. On top of that, I noticed that he wasn’t retaining things like his target words and some of the subjects being taught to him. His behavior has stemmed from him being sensitive to classmates teasing/picking on him. He’s a sensitive kid already (I’m a sensitive woman!), but he’s even more sensitive when he thinks someone is picking on him. On top of all of that, he stutters.

The last few months have not been easy for me (or him for that matter). From evaluation after evaluation (speech, occupational, ADHD, behavior), I’ve been trying to figure out what is wrong with my baby. I have never seen him behave like this before. He cries all of the time at school and home, I receive phone calls or written reports on his behavior, he has even been suspended for hitting. I know that he’s mostly reacting to the children that pick on him and because this has been going on for the past few months, it seems like it is easier for the teacher to remove him from the class or call him “out” instead of everyone who is involved with the situation.

Let me tell you the things I know about my son:

He stutters… He has been evaluated for speech and therapy will start soon

He does have a hard time focusing.

He loses his temper easily. <-------------That’s what concerns me the most.

But even with all of that, TJ is really a good kid. Seriously. I know every mother say that about their children, but no, he really is. Trust me, I have one that isn’t!

For some reason, he is able to understand when he has done something wrong, but he can not control himself to not do the wrong thing (like losing his temper, or finishing his schoolwork). Everyday when I ‘m dropping them off at school he kisses me and say “I’m going to do better today mom, I promise”. And I respond with a hug and a “I know babe, because today is a new day”. But when I pull off, I can’t help but shed a tear because I know that out of 5 days of school, I’m going to get at least 3 days of bad reports.

To make this long story short, I have considered (and have turned in all paperwork for) homeschooling. After talking with a friend today, we talked about how my youngest will finally be out of the house and then she asked if I was sure I wanted to homeschool. Before her question, I was set on doing it. I felt like it was my only option and possibly the BEST one for him. Then she asked me WHY I felt like that. My response after crying was that I felt like I owe it to him. I feel like maybe this is coming from him not getting enough attention at home being the “oldest”. I also feel like it will keep him safe from being teased. And then I feel like if he needs one on one attention, who else could be better than myself…

But that’s how I felt before she asked me that question. Now, I don’t know how I feel. I can’t help but think about my youngest son’s name being pulled tomorrow and how I will finally have all three boys in school. How I will finally have seven hours a day and five days a week to just be Lakeitha. I can’t help but have a few selfish thoughts going through my mind right now.

I can go back to school.

I can get a part time job

I can do absolutely nothing for seven hours a day

My friend told me to think about it more before I finalize any decisions. So here I am, thinking. Weighing my pros and cons. I don’t even know what the pros and cons are anymore. This is definitely one of those times where I feel like I’m damned if I do and damned if I don’t.

Thanks for listening.

I originally planned to leave it as just a section of the wall and possibly frame it. Well, after looking at it like that for the past few months, I decided to just go ahead and stencil the entire wall. After all, Mandi’s wall was the reason I chose this stencil in the first place.
That’s probably why I have two french dressers and two french nightstands sitting in my garage now.

Lately, I’ve been “hunting” for other objects that I’m starting to have a fascination with. For starters, vintage globes

via

I currently have a love jones for vintage globes. Though I only have two so far (It’s hard finding them while thrifting), I’ve been very close to spend big bucks on some of the ones listed on Etsy. I want a black globe and I doubt I’ll come across one at a thrift store. Oh, and lets not forget the small globes… I DIE.

via

My next obsession is vintage Pyrex bowls

If this were my collection (below), I would definitely be in heaven!

via

Next on the list are bread boards

via

I have a fabulous bread board that I purchased on Etsy, but I want/need more!

Gimme gimme gimme!

Via

What do you find yourself collecting while thrifting? For the amount I would need in the LAGAN BB, the total would be $255.26. If I purchased NUMERAR the total would be $447.86. Again, the would type is different and LAGAN is a smidge thinner. Which one would you choose??? Oh and those prices are with shipping.

Emily P. I’m thinking it will cost us less than $50 to do the entire project.

And if I haven’t sold you on bead board backsplash, take a look at this kitchen’s after

Seriously, CHECK OUT THIS KITCHEN!!!
And she managed to do laundry that same day

What do you think? Oh yeah, spring and flowers and all that jazz… I love the look of flowers in the home (both fresh cut and potted), but I don’t have a green thumb nor am I able to stick to my weekly budget to allow myself enough wiggle room to squeeze in a $5 bouquet at the grocery store. What’s a girl to do about that other than turn to Pinterest?

Before I headed that way, I clicked on West Elm because of all the ads I had been seeing on blogs (ads work people!). What did I find on West Elms site?

First off, I realized that cactus and succulents are the types of plants I need. After that, I realized that I wanted the pots I plant them in to look like those from West Elm. Isn’t the grey and turquoise fabulous?! Knowing good and well that I wasn’t going to pay $34 for the small and $69 for the largest pot, I was determined to find a DIY alternative to share with you.

First off, lets start with the succulents. You can find succulents at Lowes or Home Depot

<img style="background-image: none;
I found the ones above at Lowes but the succulents I actually purchased were from Walmart for $2.50 a pot (yes I do go inside Walmart and live to talk about it).

<img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px;
But you know we live in a time where EVERYTHING can be purchased online so look at what I found

shop that sales the prettiest assortment of succulents!

Now, for the plant pots. Again, not wanting to pay $34 for the ones at West Elm, I scouted out these at Lowes.

<img style="background-image: none;
The smallest were around $4 and the largest around $11

<img style="background-image: none;
What I like the most about these is their finish. They aren’t glossy, but they aren’t matt either. They have more of a satin finish. For the band across the top (as seen in the WE pots), you can use a sample pot of paint from Lowes or Home Depot for less than $3 (or if you’re like me, you have tons of paint in the garage you can use!).

Now, if you want to go even cheaper, you can always use terracotta pots and paint them. I found some at Walmart for next to nothing!

<img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px;
