I just want to take a moment to let you know about our special Valentines themed services this Sunday. The “lover boy” himself, Tom Blaylock, will be our special guest speaker. He will be bringing a message that I know we men will sure appreciate. And along with some fun video and some great music, I will be dressing up as Cupid and shooting couples in the heart with arrows of love! (Not really, my diaper days are over…I hope.)

So be sure to bring your sweetie! If you do not have a sweetie, one will be provided for you! (That’s a joke.)

Happy Valentines Day!

Super Bowl Sunday will be “super” at HomeFront! We will have special music by Supertramp, our guest will speaker will be Superman, we will super-size all the drinks, and we will give away loaded super soakers to all our super kids. We will all get super wet and it will be super fun! (And if you believe all this, you are super gullible.) Seriously though, we will be super bummed if you aren’t in church.

Also, please pray for our youth group! Friday night 16 of our adult volunteers and students will be heading out to Camp Michawana for some fun in the snow and in the Word! Please pray for them that they will not run into a tree at the bottom of the tubing hill, and that they will have safe travels to and from as well. On a side note, some of them were only able to go with partial financial help. If you would like to contribute to this, it would be very welcomed. Please email me (howard@homefrontchurch.org) to let me know how much you can contribute to them.

And don’t forget that “HomeFront Idol” is coming fast. Let your creative side show! Be sure to sign up Sunday for the visual arts and/or performance arts areas! Kids are invited to participate in both. For my act I am going to sign up to drink a glass of water while standing on my head. I bet you can’t do that! People pay me big money to see it too, but it will be free to you if you come on out. And since it will be in the church building, I am going to drink “holy” water!

I know, I am super weird!

Wow, we had a great crowd out for the Chili Cook-Off last Sunday night! For your enjoyment, we will be showing a video slideshow of the festivities on Sunday morning. Along with that, this week in church we will be also be hearing again from Granny of the Beverly Hillbillies. This time she will show us how to outsmart our kids. That Jethro dude should know better than to mess with Granny! We will also enjoy a song from Harry Chapin (I think he is the same guy who acted in silent movies) and we will have a special guest who is like a brother to me (but not half as good looking or as humble as me)! And guys, I will be announcing plans for the Guys Night Out that is coming soon. So be sure to be in your place this Sunday!

This Sunday I will be continuing my series on Developing People Skills, and we will also enjoy some special music by Pete and the band. Pete is going to sing a disco song by the Bee Gees, which is okay, as long as he doesn’t dance and wear bellbottoms and a silk shirt! Actually I think he’s going to sing an Elvis tune, being that both Pete and Elvis are from Australia and all. Anyway, in reality he won’t be singing any Bee Gees or Elvis, but I promise you it won’t be Lady Gaga either! So come on out this Sunday!

Speaking of the 70’s, be “groovy” and come to a movie! I am inviting any guys who want to, to join me tonight (Friday) for the opening night of The Book of Eli. I will be at the food court at RiverTown at 6:30 to get a bite to eat, and then the movie starts at 7:10. If you would like to join me for dinner and a movie, just show up (I will wait for a few minutes near the top of the escalator). It is a flick that has many Christian themes and is getting a lot of acclaim. So please don’t leave me stranded and alone, come join me!

Come shake off the cold at a winter invite event.  On Sunday, January 17, at 6pm, HomeFront Church will host a fabulous time for family and friends.  The event will include:

• Great chili and all the fixin’s
• Ice cream sundae bar
• Taste-test everyone’s chili
• Awards for the best chili
• Fun family entertainment – Patchwork Pear
• Childcare for the youngest

Well the holidays are behind us now, but the good times have just begun at HomeFront! This week I will be doing a talk about developing people skills, and I know some of you jerks need to be here for it. (And by the sound of that last sentence, so do I!) You are going to love the video that will go along with my talk. It is one of the best that I have ever showed, I guarantee!

Also, I want to remind all you ladies about MomTime tonight. It is not too late to plan to come.

And finally, the HomeFront Chili Cook-Off is coming soon! Be sure to get out grandma’s old recipe and try for one of the two prizes, the “Gas-X” Award and People’s Choice Award! The evening will feature the traveling entertainers called Patchwork Pear. Don’t ask me how they came up with that name, all I know is that we will enjoy some juggling, “clowning” (whatever the heck that is) and some pickin’ and grinnin’ on the banjo!

So stop being a pain in the butt to everyone around you and come learn some people skills this week!

This Sunday at HomeFront we will be looking at the subject of being like a kid again at Christmas. We will also have a great time singing Christmas carols and we will enjoy some fun video of popular Christmas favorites as well! Be sure to “jingle all the way” to church this Sunday! There will be free Radio Flyer wagons to the first 25 people through the doors! (Not really, but I will give you a ride around the church in one if you want!)

And I want to remind you all to empty your cupboards of your canned soup! There will be a box in the foyer to donate your soup to the food pantry at Beacon of Hope Ministries. (This is a small way we can all show some love here at Christmastime; so don’t hold back or I will send the Grinch to hunt you down and eat you alive!)
