Ashley & Byron got married on Saturday, May 25, 2013. With roughly three months to go before the wedding, Ashley & Byron were in need of a new wedding planner. We won’t get into the why’s, but needless to say – time was ticking and things weren’t looking good. We called up our friend Joee Wong and asked who he would recommend to step in this late in the game. Joee, without pause, said Cindy Johnson of Platinum Events would take care of them. To skip ahead to the end of the story – Cindy and her team of incredibly talented and organized professional wedding coordinators saved the day.

We appreciate very much working with professionals who not only do fantastic work, but go over and above to take care of not just what they were ‘hired’ for, but also to go over and above to take care of the people who have put their trust, not only in us, but in the entire team.

We love how real Jenny & Chris are. They genuinely care for each other. I had a great opportunity to hang out with Chris one-on-one and the way he would talk about Jenny was just awesome. He truly honours her and treasures her. It’s a marriage that will stand the test of time.

We can’t easily explain that we do a lot more than film weddings. It’s more than pointing a camera and shooting. It’s about creating a bond that provides comfort and relaxation in the short-term which turns into long-lasting friendships in the future. We connect with our couples on a pretty intimate level, getting to know them over the course of sometimes up to 2 years before their ceremony. We care an immense amount about building trust and being a source of guidance for our couples as they navigate the craziness of wedding planning. We love that we know how much Valerie and David love their little Noosa and we remember the Beverly and Buki love their Deserts from Demetre’s and that Jenny and Chris love the fajitas at Lone Star! We take pride in reading reviews that come in after we’ve completed and delivered a wedding film to one of our couples when they tell us how comfortable we made them feel on the biggest day of their lives.

In this, our first wedding in our fifth year of owning this business that we built from the ground up, we had the chance to practice what we love about our profession and spent the day with Maggie and Jamie. Maggie is a nurse who is working on specializing her craft with just a few more university courses. Jamie is an executive in a very unique field of insurance that I find to be fascinating. They met on the website eHarmony.ca and fast forward to February 2, 2013, they got married at the Fermenting Cellar in the historic Distillery District just east of Toronto’s Downtown.

Maggie and Jamie had a candle-lit ceremony led by Gord Kushner who we think is one of the top wedding officiants in Toronto. They wrote their own vows as you’ll hear in the highlight film we made for them.

The wedding day was amazing not only because Maggie and Jamie are amazing, but also because we got to work with an incredible team of wedding rockstars! We already mentioned the Fermenting Cellar – but their in house team of staff and caterers were amazing! We have to take time to give our new friends Dani and Liz from Gush Events a huge big digital high-five because of their awesomeness. The wedding was beautiful and it was right on schedule all night!  And speaking of all night – how about Toronto’s finest DJ/Emcee  Mr. Michael Coombs. It was also awesome to work with Sarah who is a life-long friend of Maggie’s and took some great wedding photos (blog link coming soon).

A really heart-filling and satisfying moment happened for me personally at the end of the night when we were packing up to leave. Maggie gave Emily and I hugs and whispered that we made her feel comfortable and relaxed all day. I wish I could remember exactly what she said – but the the thought was there and it was enough to make me smile. We like the term Wedding Filmmakers because each time we sit down to complete a highlight film or a main feature, we’re creating a completely custom, from scratch, un-scripted film that will not only show our couples in the best possible light, but at the same time reveal the real people that are getting married because they really do love each other.

Thank you Maggie and Jamie for having us and while you better not be seeing this in the electronic-free St. Anne’s Spa, we hope you’ll enjoy this highlight film for years to come and think back to how amazing your wedding day was!

We also filmed the wedding of Ally and Suman. Two amazing people who come from different cultures but brought both families together in a beautiful wedding weekend. Check out the Same Day Edit we made for them that actually took place over two days…

On Friday night, Ally and Suman took part in a traditional indian ceremony which was a lot of fun!

The next day, they celebrated again in a Christian ceremony.

It was really cool to see both families come together through cultural differences to share in Ally and Suman’s wedding.

We had a great day with Bernie Aho and his wife Lisa. They were amazing to work with and their photography is incredible! We are excited about getting the chance to work together again with Bernie and Lisa in 2013! The wedding was coordinated by Lauren Perry who did a remarkable job decorating the hall for the reception. It looked impeccable in their with custom lighting and just beautiful looking everything. Saba and Bob (as he’s generally called) had a very unique and beautiful ceremony. It was a traditional persian ceremony and they are completely different than ceremonies we are used to

We loved the rich heritage and culture that was preserved – but we also loved that things were translated in english for the uninitiated in the room!

It was also a great day for us as we were able to work with Storey Wilkins who is a great photographer and now a friend! We had heard so many great things about Storey from our friend Lee Tynan who used to work for Storey a few years back. Storey and her partner Dave did a great job on the photos!

Josh and Ilana chose to have both their ceremony and reception all at one venue which always makes things convenient for everyone (including us!). They had their wedding at the new Hazelton Manor which is our absolute hands-down favourite wedding ballroom banquet halls in Toronto. The owners are incredible and they are very hands-on. Not only do they do whatever they can to make your wedding perfect, they also do the little things like take really great care of your vendors (like us!). Thank you very much to George and the team at Hazelton!

 Here’s the final same day edit of 2012 for your viewing pleasure!

We are lucky enough to take in sets from bands from time to time at weddings, but we can honestly agree that we’ve never heard a better band than George and his band. They kept playing hit after hit without stopping between songs. They were electric. You have to check them out. Although they didn’t make it into the Same Day Edit, the George St. Kitts Orchestra absolutely blew us away last night. Such and incredible group of musicians who literally made us stay  probably an hour after we were done just listening to them play. Josh and Ilana also had an incredible candy bar which also factored in the decision to hang around

We loved hanging out with our friends Justin and Lisa Mark who did the photography.

All of Natalie’s hard work paid off. After a quick ceremony at the Newman Centre on the U of T campus and a few photos in the arctic-like weather, we headed in to the reception venue at the Royal Conservatory of Music. Natalie also worked wonders making that place look incredible! I think there is a solid future in wedding planning for you, Mrs. Ramos

Family is always a huge part of weddings. This wedding was very emotional and important for a few reasons. Sarah’s father passed away a few years ago and Ryan’s mother passed away just over a year ago. There were a lot of tears – both happy and sad – but both parents were remembered and honoured throughout the day.

We had a great time at Sarah and Ryan’s wedding. It was fun to spend the day with Sarah and Danielle from 22 Studios who did photography.

Here is the Same Day Edit wedding film we showed later that night at Copper Creek Golf Club in Kleinburg, ON.

I can still remember the day over two years ago when Jessica and Joey invited us into her parents’ stunning home in Woodbridge. Jessica’s mom fed us with cheesecake and it was actually the first time we’ve ever had a shot in the middle of our initial meeting! (it was peach schnapps if I can recall). I remember meeting Jessica’s dad – mostly that he didn’t say more than two words the entire night. He was a proud dad on Saturday.

Jessica and Joey are a perfect couple and we were really excited to spend the day with them. It was pretty windy!

We got a call earlier this year from Brandon, Clarie’s fiances. Being the romantic guy he is, surprised Claire for her birthday by booking us to film their wedding.   Brandon came over to our studio and we filmed a surprise Birthday Video just for Claire telling her what Brandon had arranged for her. So Happy Birthday Claire! Here is the highlight film we put together for your wedding!

We loved being able to spend the day with Brandon and Claire. It was that much nicer because we knew the families that much more and it just ended up being such a great day.

The end of this film is probably an inside joke that we’re not even sure if we fully get – but Brandon’s best man decided to perform a surprise half-karaoke/half-interperative dance thing that really won the crowd over for the evening. Wearing his Best Man patch, he had moves better than Jagger.

We wanted to thank Ryan McDonald for being a big part of this wedding highlight film. This was his first edit for us and we think he did a great job. We’re looking forward to bringing him on the team in the near future!
