I’m Officially a Certified Personal Trainer

If you’ve been here for awhile, you know I’ve been studying for my certified personal trainer exam and I took it last Friday and PASSED! That has been a big goal of mine and the focus of much of my time and attention this summer.

I’m so thrilled to have this knowledge base so that I can expand my health coaching services and ultimately create a fitness app with at-home and gym workouts you can follow! You can help me out by letting me know which one you’d like to have first.

My Fitness Update

If you’re new here, I’ll give a brief recap of my fitness journey to bring you up to speed.

In January 2025, two months before I turned 50, I committed a full year to getting in the best shape of my life.

I spent a few months doing a body recomp, where I lost body fat and gained muscle. Then, I lost my way trying to reverse and bring calories back up. In late June 2025, I hired a coach to help me with a lean build.

I LOVE sharing my fitness journey on my YouTube channel because I can share way more detail and information with what my daily routines and habits are. My channel is just a baby, but growing with almost 6,000 subscribers. I’d love for you to join me there!

This was my very first YouTube video where I shared Week 1 of my fitness journey last summer (2025).

I started my journey eating 1,440 calories a day.

I spent 9 months in that build phase, bringing calories almost to 2,400 calories a day.

Then, I did a 12-week cut to lose some of the body fat I’d gained during the build.

Here I shared what I eat to get lean.

For the past 10 weeks, I’ve been on a reverse diet, continuing to build muscle and bring calories back up.

Latest Fitness Vlog : Reverse Diet Week 8

I was planning on staying in a reverse until 6 weeks before our wedding on November 7, but I went to my wedding dress fitting and the alterations lady wanted me at my wedding body now! Oops! I didn’t time that right!

So, we’re just altering the wedding dress length now, and I go back in one month to take in the top part, sides and waist.

That means, I’m starting a cut now to lean out for our wedding. I hope to lose a couple inches in my waist and look leaner overall, then I can just maintain through the end of the year!

Superpower Health Results

I was so intrigued to get my Superpower Health bloodwork done but then I got so busy with summer and studying for my Certified Personal Trainer exam that I didn’t get a chance to share my results here.

If you haven’t heard of Superpower, it’s a $199/year membership that gives you 100+ biomarkers, a personalized Action Plan, AI concierge and supplements matched to your blood results. It provides your biological age and 17 health scores that you can track over time. You also get 24/7 access to a care team.

The best part is that it’s very convenient. I was able to set up my membership on the app in about 10 minutes and then schedule a lab appointment at a location close to my house. They have over 2,000 locations and are HSA/FSA eligible.

As I get older, it’s more important than ever to stay healthy and fit and also to watch out for genetic predispositions to certain illnesses and diseases.

My Biological Age

My results came back within a week and I was very pleasantly surprised to see that my biological age was 41. I’m actually 51, so that’s great news!

Your chronological age reflects how many years you’ve lived, while your biological age reflects how your body is aging based on different health markers. Biological age is influenced by factors like diet, sleep, stress, exercise, and genetics, and can potentially be improved with lifestyle changes.

I told Elliott he’s marrying a (much) younger women! ha!

One of the things that interested me most about Superpower was how comprehensive the testing is. Instead of looking at just a basic annual blood panel, the blood draw gives you a much broader snapshot of your health.

My testing included markers related to cardiovascular health, blood sugar, thyroid function, hormones, iron status, vitamin D, inflammation, liver and kidney function, and a complete blood count. For example, in addition to standard cholesterol numbers, my report included ApoB and hs-CRP, which gave me another layer of information about cardiovascular health.

The hormone and thyroid testing was especially interesting to me as a woman in my 50s. My panel included estradiol, DHEA-S, cortisol, total, free and bioavailable testosterone, sex hormone binding globulin, TSH, total T4 and free T4 index.

It also looked at markers like fasting glucose and A1C, kidney function, electrolytes, liver enzymes, iron and ferritin, vitamin D and a full CBC. I really liked being able to see everything together because it gave me a much more complete picture than simply knowing whether my standard annual labs were “normal.”

Overall, many of my general health markers looked really good, including my glucose, A1C, kidney function, blood counts, inflammation, ApoB, triglycerides and HDL. There were also a few results that gave me things to discuss further with my doctor, like my thyroid, which I know we are watching because I have nodules.

That was probably my biggest takeaway from the experience is that testing like this gives you more information and info is power. Some results may be reassuring, while others may raise questions you wouldn’t have known to ask otherwise. I found it helpful as a starting point for conversations with my doctor and for learning more about what is happening in my body as I get older.

I’m so thankful to be in good health because I know that’s so critical for how we live our day to day lives.

New Home Decor Updates

Today I’m sharing some home decor updates around the house. Nothing too major – just some styling switch ups here and there with a bigger change to our bedroom.

Some of these little projects have been on my mind for months and I finally pulled the trigger. I’m loving how everything turned out!

I used Chat GPT for a couple of these changes and I’ll tell you all about that later in the post. I found it really helpful for visualizing how the spaces would look before I changed them!

First up, I love the look of stems styled in vases and ordered a few varieties so I could see how they looked in person. Sometimes I order knowing I may have to return, but I ended up liking all of these, so they are keepers!

Kitchen/Dining Room

Our first floor is open concept, so I try to keep things flowing visually from room to room.

I bought this little black lamp originally for the upstairs hallway, then we ended up adding sconces, so I wasn’t sure if I would keep this lamp. I decided to try it in the kitchen and we ended up really liking having that ambient light at night.

So, now I can take the tag off!

The riser is a vintage find from Round Top. And James made that lidded jar in ceramics class:) I have lots of his creations around the house.

I’ve also been wanting to add more framed photos around the house and ordered several from Amazon. How sweet is this pic of Jordan in her pumpkin costume?! And it fits the approaching season.

On the dining table, I mixed the green stems and the white florals for a big, lush arrangement.

Our family dinners have been going well and are becoming more of “just what we do” which has been the goal all along. I like to light a candle when we eat, so I added this candle and matches here.

And, since I apparently need eye glasses within arms reach at all times, I bought a pack of five (only $10!) and scatter them throughout the house.

We’ve had that fiddle leaf fig tree for a couple of years now and it’s grown so much! It loves the bright light and I water it once a week.

Upstairs Hallway

I’ve styled our upstairs landing different ways over the years, but most recently it was a winter theme and after Christmas, the dog art was still up.

I knew I wanted to add a large mirror and sconces, but it literally took me a full Saturday to source everything and try to find the right pieces. I got Chat GPT involved because I have a hard time visualizing things and it was really helpful!

I uploaded a photo of the space and the scones I was considering and Chat GPT mocked it up:

I could not find the right size mirror in that shape but came close with one at Crate & Barrel – but it was too expensive.

So, I kept looking and finally found a very affordable round mirror at Hobby Lobby.

It’s really big and fits the space very well – even though it’s black, I think it looks great!

I really like the gold sconces. I went with the square shape since the mirror was round. They are battery operated, so no drilling or electrician needed. And you can operate them from the remote, which I placed in the little marble bowl.

Primary Bedroom

Our bedroom was another space I turned to Chap GPT for help with. First, I shared images I had pinned on Pinterest for inspiration, then uploaded pics of my current bedroom.

For a minute I was considering replacing this mirror with a larger one, but since I just did that in the hallway, I really didn’t want to make another big mirror purchase. But, I loved the sconces and the light they provide, so I added a set here too.

In this room, we went with the round sconces and I’m very thankful for a willing, handy fiance!

Now, here’s the part where Chat came in- the main part of the room with the bed. I didn’t want to replace the bed, nightstands, lamps or mirror – so I sent Chat a pic of my room with inspo images and had it create a mock up design.

Here’s what it came up with:

Pretty, right?! But, the bench and rug aren’t “real” so I couldn’t find the exact thing online. And, where it has the olive tree is normally a tower fan, so that wouldn’t work either. But, I could put a potted olive branch on top of the nightstand;)

I realized that the biggest changes would need to be switching out the old rug (not pictured) and replacing the grey settee with a lighter colored upholstered bench.

The settee is years old from Pottery Barn Kids and was in Jordan’s playroom at our old house. When we moved about 5 years ago, we lost the dedicated playroom and didn’t have a good spot for it, so we tried it at the end of the bed and liked having that extra seating option.

But, it takes up a lot of space, so I wanted to try a bench in it’s place.

I found this bench at Walmart and I’m so happy with it. It’s a great scale for our king sized bed too. And with the bench in here instead of the little couch, there’s so much more room!

I really like the rug too, but it’s hard to get a pic of what it actually looks like in person. In some of the photos, it’s looking more blue, but in person, it’s much more neutral.

Overall, I’m really happy with the changes to this room! This photo above is more representative of how the rug looks in person. BUT, now that we’ve lived with it for a bit and I’m looking back at the original insp image, I’m considering a more neutral toned rug – perhaps this one??

Y’all! I know I’m petite, but I literally bought this for my daughter, but it ran big so I tried it on. I would say even I could’ve sized down, but I do like this outfit. It’s relaxed, but pulled together.

The jeans are from No Boundaries, and I would recommend sizing down. I do really love this pullover though! It’s silky soft in a cream color that goes with everything.

Gosh I wish these pants were so long on me! I honestly think I could take scissors cut across the hem since they have that raw edge hem look. This set is so comfy and pretty in this dusty rose.

The pants are super stetchy, have a functional drawstring and flowy wide leg. Thankfully the hoodie fits just fine in the same comfy material and relaxed fit.

I am pleasantly surprised with this dress! It looks so much better on than on the hanger. It buttons up the front, with puff sleeves, coordinating tie belt, bubble hem, plus a pocket!

It’s really cute to wear into the office or a nice dinner, and comes in more colors. I like the blue and green stripes too.

I wanted to try these cargo jeans in the barrel style, not sure how I feel. Maybe if they fit better I’d like them more. I think barrel style is either you love it or don’t, but really cute on other people.

I will say they are definitely comfortable and lightweight. I paired them with this Amazon tank for a cute and casual look.

During this trip, I’m on Week 5 of my reverse diet where I’ve been strategically increasing calories and macros to get into maintenance mode. If you follow my vlogs, you’ll know that the reverse has been really challenging for me. The week before we left was terrible in terms of sticking to my macro plan, so I wanted to lock in this week.

As we all know, it’s really hard to stick to your fitness goals while traveling. It can be done, but it takes a lot of intentionality and planning. I’ve had trips where I “let go” more and didn’t track, like our Just Us trip to Fredericksberg recently. On that trip, I barely took out my phone and just tried to mindfully enjoy our meals together.

But, for this week, even though we were heading out of town for two days, I wanted to challenge myself to stick with my calories/macros to keep on track with my fitness goals.

In today’s post, I’ll share our trip recap and how I stuck to my calories and macros while we were gone.

Let’s start with before the trip. Since this trip is a short 2-hour drive, it was pretty easy to pack food and snacks to bring with us. The room has a small fridge and there is also a microwave accessible.

So, just like you’d pack clothes and toiletries, you can also pack food, snacks and water. A bonus is that you save lots of money by bringing food from home.

We used our small Stanley cooler and ice packs and brought lots of fruit, including bananas that travel well, protein bars, popcorn and some treats for my girl. A treat for me included the Quest chocolate peanut butter cups:)

Sandwich Containers – great for keeping sandwiches from getting smashed and different colors makes it easy to identify whose sandwich is whose

I also packed a grilled chicken sandwich for the drive.

Before we left, I went for a long walk because I knew we’d be sitting for over 2 hours on the drive and I didn’t want to have to worry about walking a ton when we got there.

And, I ate my normal breakfast – egg/veggie scramble.

We also stopped at Starbuck’s on our drive and I’ve been experimenting with healthier iced coffee options. My go-to is the Iced Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso as a yummy treat and the calories/macros aren’t terrible – it’s about 150 cals for the grande.

Here, I ordered a grande vanilla sweet cream cold brew with sugar-free vanilla syrup and only a quarter of the sweet cream but honestly, I didn’t love it.

Hyatt Lost Pines

We arrived at the resort and it’s just as warm and rustic as I recall. 

The lobby is spacious and welcoming with stone details, exposed wood beams, cozy seating areas, and big windows that bring in lots of natural light. It has that relaxed Hill Country feel, but still feels polished and upscale.

There are plenty of comfortable places to sit, grab a coffee, or just take a break from the heat, and the whole resort feels casual and family-friendly.

It was nice that our room had a mini fridge so we could refrigerate the fruit and water. There was a microwave down the hall and I really wish I would have brought my oatmeal, but I wasn’t thinking of that.

Of course, the first stop after checking in and unpacking was the pool and we definitely needed it as a relief from the heat!

I was surprised to realize that the nicer cushioned chairs closest to the pool for reservation only and you had to pay $25 each for them. That was disappointing.

I also noticed that the price of parking went up since I’d been here last. I was $18 for self part and now it’s $25.

I will mention that I used points to pay for this trip, which made it doable for us. AND, if you’re tracking expenses, I used the TravelSpend app to help keep track of costs.

Side Note: I liked the app so much that I’m continuing to use it for tracking our non-essential monthly spending. It’s really opened our eyes to how much we’ve spent on eating out and coffee shops in July!

The most casual restaurant on the property is Old Bucks and they have quite a wide selection of menu items, but I could not find the menu online anywhere – not even on Lost Pines website!

One of my best tips for staying on track while being away from home or eating out is to look at the restaurant menu ahead of time so that you can plan accordingly. I do this at every restaurant we go to! 

For lunch, I ordered the mahi mahi grilled tacos and didn’t realize they came with fries. I didn’t eat them, but had I realized there was a side available, I would have chosen fruit.

Jordan ordered a cheeseburger but didn’t end up eating all of it so I had some of her meat too – more protein:)

There are several activities in games on site in Jordan and I loved playing ping-pong.

And tetherball was a new one for her. She had never played and I probably haven’t played since I was her age. This was so fun and funny! I was cracking up the whole time as the ball was swinging around the pole and we were dodging it.

They also have rows of corn hole and a foosball table that I hadn’t seen before.

I thought Jordan might want to ride bikes around the property, but she wasn’t interested.

This might be one of my favorite quiet spots at Lost Pines. I love how peaceful it feels while sitting in these chairs by the water.

As for dinner that night, I was scouring the menus at the restaurants on site and really didn’t see anything that caught my eye that would be affordable and fit well in my macros for the rest of the day.

Also, Jordan and I both weren’t very hungry so we went to the little café where they sell sandwiches, pizza, and other deli type items and chose from there.

I got the hummus and veggies.

I was a bit over calories and also fat on Day 1, but it could have been much worse.

I think what put me over was having some of Jordan’s burger – I tried to estimate that the best I could. Also, I’m not sure I logged the hummus correctly – you have to do the best you can when there’s no barcode to scan and you don’t know the brand.

But, isn’t it wild to SEE what you’re eating?! What you measure gets managed. That’s why I was also tracking my spending. It gives you so much more INSIGHT into what is actually happening. And that leads to better decisions.

Day 2 at Lost Pines

I am a perimenopausal woman who drinks a lot of water and have been waking up around 4 AM each night to use the bathroom- even when I try to stop drinking water earlier in the evening. I had so much trouble falling back asleep, but finally managed to fall back asleep around 5:30 I think.

Unfortunately, the alarm clock in our hotel room went off at 6 a.m. Boo!!! 

Luckily, the café opens at 6 a.m. so I walked over and got an iced coffee with sugar-free syrup and oat milk. That’s been my g-to lately and I really like the taste of it.

Y’all know I love my morning quiet time and it was even better to get to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful and peaceful nature. Of course I brought my journal.

I’ve also been meditating with the free Insight Timer app and have been enjoying that. I’m doing a 40-day series called “Mindfulness Daily” with Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach and it’s perfect for beginners.

For breakfast, I had a banana and Barebells protein bar. Those bars literally taste like candy bars, but don’t have any added sugar. 

I eat protein bars sparingly (more like a treat) and would have preferred to eat my typical oatmeal, but wasn’t thinking that I’d be able to make it here so I didn’t bring it.

Since we were up so early, my daughter said she wanted to be the first ones at the pool. We got there right at 8 AM when they opened and sure enough, we were the first people there!

We had the whole place to ourselves for over an hour! We swam, threw the water football and enjoyed the hot tub.

I would have to say that what we spent most of our time doing, though, was floating around the lazy river.

I got in a float, but Jordan just swam around next to me. We must have been on that thing for hours!!!

Since we had been up so early and at the pool for several hours, we were ready to head indoors by lunchtime.

Jordan really wanted Chipotle so we drove off property to a nearby location. I got a bowl with rice, chicken, pico, and a bit of guac.

Chipotle is on MyFitnessPal and these are there serving sizes, but it’s hard to know if the servers are exact or not. My pico looked like a lot so I logged more and I had to estimate the quac.

After Chipotle, we went to Starbuck’s again and this time, I did get my fave Iced Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso. Yum!!

Promix Protein Bars (160 calories, 11g protein, 18g carbs, 6g fat, 5g sugar)

Later that afternoon, I had a protein bar for a snack. I like these plant based protein bars because the’re pretty low cal and not too sweet. They’re kinda like a rice crispy treat.

The chocolate chip is my fave flavor.

After lunch, we spent some time popping into a few local shops and then headed back to the resort.

We swam and floated the lazy river for a long time and then walked around the property.

Eventually we got hungry for dinner.Again, I was looking at restaurants on property to see what I could eat.  There are several restaurants, but I really wasn’t interested in what they had to offer this time.

And Jordan was begging for sushi! So, I improvised and drove to the H-E-B grocery store down the road and picked up a California roll for her and a Poké bowl for me. If you’re tracking macros, these are easy to track because they have a bar code you can scan.

This meal was also a win in terms of cost because it was much less expensive than the restaurants.

After dinner we roasted marshmallows, which is fun and a little scary for me. That fire is no joke.

I didn’t have the marshmallows, but I did have a Quest Peanut Butter Cup. Those are really good!

Back at the room that night, we tried to make popcorn in the hotel microwave, but ended up burning it! Such a bummer!! And also a drama because the bag was literally smoking!!

I was pretty close to my calorie/macro targets this day! I usually try to stay within 4 grams of each macro, but I felt like this was pretty good for while traveling.

Day 3

I was up again before the crack of dawn on the morning we drove home. I waited for the cafe to open, then went and got a hot coffee with oatmilk.

It was lovely to sit outside again and just enjoy the sunrise. When Jordan woke up, we basically packed up and headed home. It was a short girls trip, but I loved every minute of that one-on-one time with my girl.

And, I was so thankful that I stayed on track during this trip. I knew before we left for Lost Pines that I wanted to enjoy the trip without completely abandoning the progress I had been working so hard for. I wanted to come home feeling good, both physically and mentally, instead of feeling like I had to “start over” after one weekend away.

Traveling can make it easy to eat whatever is most convenient, especially when restaurant options are limited and portions are larger than what you might normally have at home.

For me, staying close to my plan meant thinking ahead, bringing a few foods with me, checking menus before meals, and choosing the options that best supported my goals. I still enjoyed the experience, but I made conscious choices instead of letting every meal become a splurge.

Man, I just love this girl so much! I’m getting sad that we only have a couple of weeks left until school starts. She’ll be in 5th grade and my son will be a junior in high school. We’ll be touring colleges in a few months!
