Hyatt Lost Pines Trip Recap: How I Stayed on Track With My Macros

Hi friend! Welcome to a fresh, new week! Jordan and I are back from Lost Pines and it may have been our most fun trip yet. She’s 10 and loves to be active and have fun. We swam, played ping pong and tetherball, walked the property, floated the lazy river for hours, roasted marshmallows and just chilled.

During this trip, I’m on Week 5 of my reverse diet where I’ve been strategically increasing calories and macros to get into maintenance mode. If you follow my vlogs, you’ll know that the reverse has been really challenging for me. The week before we left was terrible in terms of sticking to my macro plan, so I wanted to lock in this week.

As we all know, it’s really hard to stick to your fitness goals while traveling. It can be done, but it takes a lot of intentionality and planning. I’ve had trips where I “let go” more and didn’t track, like our Just Us trip to Fredericksberg recently. On that trip, I barely took out my phone and just tried to mindfully enjoy our meals together.

But, for this week, even though we were heading out of town for two days, I wanted to challenge myself to stick with my calories/macros to keep on track with my fitness goals.

In today’s post, I’ll share our trip recap and how I stuck to my calories and macros while we were gone.

Let’s start with before the trip. Since this trip is a short 2-hour drive, it was pretty easy to pack food and snacks to bring with us. The room has a small fridge and there is also a microwave accessible.

So, just like you’d pack clothes and toiletries, you can also pack food, snacks and water. A bonus is that you save lots of money by bringing food from home.

We used our small Stanley cooler and ice packs and brought lots of fruit, including bananas that travel well, protein bars, popcorn and some treats for my girl. A treat for me included the Quest chocolate peanut butter cups:)

Sandwich Containers – great for keeping sandwiches from getting smashed and different colors makes it easy to identify whose sandwich is whose

I also packed a grilled chicken sandwich for the drive.

Before we left, I went for a long walk because I knew we’d be sitting for over 2 hours on the drive and I didn’t want to have to worry about walking a ton when we got there.

And, I ate my normal breakfast – egg/veggie scramble.

We also stopped at Starbuck’s on our drive and I’ve been experimenting with healthier iced coffee options. My go-to is the Iced Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso as a yummy treat and the calories/macros aren’t terrible – it’s about 150 cals for the grande.

Here, I ordered a grande vanilla sweet cream cold brew with sugar-free vanilla syrup and only a quarter of the sweet cream but honestly, I didn’t love it.

We arrived at the resort and it’s just as warm and rustic as I recall.

The lobby is spacious and welcoming with stone details, exposed wood beams, cozy seating areas, and big windows that bring in lots of natural light. It has that relaxed Hill Country feel, but still feels polished and upscale.

There are plenty of comfortable places to sit, grab a coffee, or just take a break from the heat, and the whole resort feels casual and family-friendly.

It was nice that our room had a mini fridge so we could refrigerate the fruit and water. There was a microwave down the hall and I really wish I would have brought my oatmeal, but I wasn’t thinking of that.

Of course, the first stop after checking in and unpacking was the pool and we definitely needed it as a relief from the heat!

I was surprised to realize that the nicer cushioned chairs closest to the pool for reservation only and you had to pay $25 each for them. That was disappointing.

I also noticed that the price of parking went up since I’d been here last. I was $18 for self part and now it’s $25.

I will mention that I used points to pay for this trip, which made it doable for us. AND, if you’re tracking expenses, I used the TravelSpend app to help keep track of costs.

Side Note: I liked the app so much that I’m continuing to use it for tracking our non-essential monthly spending. It’s really opened our eyes to how much we’ve spent on eating out and coffee shops in July!

The most casual restaurant on the property is Old Bucks and they have quite a wide selection of menu items, but I could not find the menu online anywhere – not even on Lost Pines website!

One of my best tips for staying on track while being away from home or eating out is to look at the restaurant menu ahead of time so that you can plan accordingly. I do this at every restaurant we go to!

For lunch, I ordered the mahi mahi grilled tacos and didn’t realize they came with fries. I didn’t eat them, but had I realized there was a side available, I would have chosen fruit.

Jordan ordered a cheeseburger but didn’t end up eating all of it so I had some of her meat too – more protein:)

There are several activities in games on site in Jordan and I loved playing ping-pong.

And tetherball was a new one for her. She had never played and I probably haven’t played since I was her age. This was so fun and funny! I was cracking up the whole time as the ball was swinging around the pole and we were dodging it.

They also have rows of corn hole and a foosball table that I hadn’t seen before.

I thought Jordan might want to ride bikes around the property, but she wasn’t interested.

This might be one of my favorite quiet spots at Lost Pines. I love how peaceful it feels while sitting in these chairs by the water.

As for dinner that night, I was scouring the menus at the restaurants on site and really didn’t see anything that caught my eye that would be affordable and fit well in my macros for the rest of the day.

Also, Jordan and I both weren’t very hungry so we went to the little café where they sell sandwiches, pizza, and other deli type items and chose from there.

I got the hummus and veggies.

I was a bit over calories and also fat on Day 1, but it could have been much worse.

I think what put me over was having some of Jordan’s burger – I tried to estimate that the best I could. Also, I’m not sure I logged the hummus correctly – you have to do the best you can when there’s no barcode to scan and you don’t know the brand.

But, isn’t it wild to SEE what you’re eating?! What you measure gets managed. That’s why I was also tracking my spending. It gives you so much more INSIGHT into what is actually happening. And that leads to better decisions.

Day 2 at Lost Pines

I am a perimenopausal woman who drinks a lot of water and have been waking up around 4 AM each night to use the bathroom- even when I try to stop drinking water earlier in the evening. I had so much trouble falling back asleep, but finally managed to fall back asleep around 5:30 I think.

Unfortunately, the alarm clock in our hotel room went off at 6 a.m. Boo!!!

Luckily, the café opens at 6 a.m. so I walked over and got an iced coffee with sugar-free syrup and oat milk. That’s been my g-to lately and I really like the taste of it.

Y’all know I love my morning quiet time and it was even better to get to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful and peaceful nature. Of course I brought my journal.

I’ve also been meditating with the free Insight Timer app and have been enjoying that. I’m doing a 40-day series called “Mindfulness Daily” with Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach and it’s perfect for beginners.

For breakfast, I had a banana and Barebells protein bar. Those bars literally taste like candy bars, but don’t have any added sugar.

I eat protein bars sparingly (more like a treat) and would have preferred to eat my typical oatmeal, but wasn’t thinking that I’d be able to make it here so I didn’t bring it.

Since we were up so early, my daughter said she wanted to be the first ones at the pool. We got there right at 8 AM when they opened and sure enough, we were the first people there!

We had the whole place to ourselves for over an hour! We swam, threw the water football and enjoyed the hot tub.

I would have to say that what we spent most of our time doing, though, was floating around the lazy river.

I got in a float, but Jordan just swam around next to me. We must have been on that thing for hours!!!

Since we had been up so early and at the pool for several hours, we were ready to head indoors by lunchtime.

Jordan really wanted Chipotle so we drove off property to a nearby location. I got a bowl with rice, chicken, pico, and a bit of guac.

Chipotle is on MyFitnessPal and these are there serving sizes, but it’s hard to know if the servers are exact or not. My pico looked like a lot so I logged more and I had to estimate the quac.

After Chipotle, we went to Starbuck’s again and this time, I did get my fave Iced Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso. Yum!!

Promix Protein Bars (160 calories, 11g protein, 18g carbs, 6g fat, 5g sugar)

Later that afternoon, I had a protein bar for a snack. I like these plant based protein bars because the’re pretty low cal and not too sweet. They’re kinda like a rice crispy treat.

The chocolate chip is my fave flavor.

After lunch, we spent some time popping into a few local shops and then headed back to the resort.

We swam and floated the lazy river for a long time and then walked around the property.

Eventually we got hungry for dinner.Again, I was looking at restaurants on property to see what I could eat. There are several restaurants, but I really wasn’t interested in what they had to offer this time.

And Jordan was begging for sushi! So, I improvised and drove to the H-E-B grocery store down the road and picked up a California roll for her and a Poké bowl for me. If you’re tracking macros, these are easy to track because they have a bar code you can scan.

This meal was also a win in terms of cost because it was much less expensive than the restaurants.

After dinner we roasted marshmallows, which is fun and a little scary for me. That fire is no joke.

I didn’t have the marshmallows, but I did have a Quest Peanut Butter Cup. Those are really good!

Back at the room that night, we tried to make popcorn in the hotel microwave, but ended up burning it! Such a bummer!! And also a drama because the bag was literally smoking!!

I was pretty close to my calorie/macro targets this day! I usually try to stay within 4 grams of each macro, but I felt like this was pretty good for while traveling.

Day 3

I was up again before the crack of dawn on the morning we drove home. I waited for the cafe to open, then went and got a hot coffee with oatmilk.

It was lovely to sit outside again and just enjoy the sunrise. When Jordan woke up, we basically packed up and headed home. It was a short girls trip, but I loved every minute of that one-on-one time with my girl.

And, I was so thankful that I stayed on track during this trip. I knew before we left for Lost Pines that I wanted to enjoy the trip without completely abandoning the progress I had been working so hard for. I wanted to come home feeling good, both physically and mentally, instead of feeling like I had to “start over” after one weekend away.

Traveling can make it easy to eat whatever is most convenient, especially when restaurant options are limited and portions are larger than what you might normally have at home.

For me, staying close to my plan meant thinking ahead, bringing a few foods with me, checking menus before meals, and choosing the options that best supported my goals. I still enjoyed the experience, but I made conscious choices instead of letting every meal become a splurge.

Man, I just love this girl so much! I’m getting sad that we only have a couple of weeks left until school starts. She’ll be in 5th grade and my son will be a junior in high school. We’ll be touring colleges in a few months!

Hi friend! Welcome to a fresh, new week! Jordan and I are back from Lost Pines and it may have been our most fun trip yet. She’s 10 and loves to be active and have fun. My Size Reference: I’m short (5’1) and I typically wear size 0P/25 jeans, XSP/XS in tops and dresses.

Ali-Shaun Size Reference: She’s taller (5’4), and usually wears a size 8-10 in jeans, and Medium/Medium Petite or size 8 in tops and dresses.

I like this style of jeans, but they did seem to have a lower rise and they were too long (which most jeans are on me unless I order petite). The top is a great crewneck basic with lots of stretch and a flesh toned bra is undetectable underneath.

Ali-Shaun’s jeans are also Mother and they looked great on her. She’s also a huge fan of the Cashmere tops and how she can wear them to work or for an evening out.

Leave it to me to always find things OUTSIDE the NSale that I want! I really liked the shape, style and size of these bags but was a little torn over which I should buy.

They both snap close, which I really like for convenience. The suede one was so pretty, but I thought it would be better suited for fall.

I did see the Tory Burch bag that was on my wishlist, but in person, I preferred the one I bought.

Ali-Shaun really liked this little bag and it does have a crossbody strap.

The Caslon tees are always a hit and I like the v-neck with the raw edge hem that gives them a modern vibe. They’re super soft and come in a ton of colors.

The studded jeans are very cool but ran big. Definitely size down in them!

Ali-Shaun looked great in the Pistola pants in the cabernet color. She loved them for work and was smitten with the cashmere top.

The Pistola Evie in “bluebird” with a comfortable high waist, lots of stretch, but too long for my short legs. The long sleeve top is a great lightweight basic and fits TTS.

This top is one piece – the top and cardigan in one, so no bulk and the front of the cardigan does have functional buttons. The jeans are great and lightweight by Kut from the Kloth.

I really like this zebra print top that I can wear now on into fall and it’s also work friendly if you pair it with pants or a skirt. It’s fully lined with rushed sides.

I like a peplum top for the flattering silhouette and this one is in a lightweight sweater material with a high neckline and ladder stitch detail.

Here’s the Calson tee in a crewneck. I usually prefer v-neck, but I like this one too. It’s also nice and long if you need the extra length.

I’m always a fan of a sweater tank and this is a great cowl neck version. You can always layer a long sleeve tee underneath in the cooler months.

The top comes in multiple colors and this light blue is really pretty. I paired them with the Kut from the Kloth Jodie jeans. They’re a high rise wide leg with big front pockets and they feel so good on!

Can you tell how much Ali-Shaun loves this outfit?! It’s the cashmere top and cute Sanctuary black crop pants that she said will go with everything and she can get a lot of wear out of- especially for travel. And the fun Adidas sneakers make it sporty chic! She said she needed to size down 1/2 in the sneakers.

The top is by Calson, a really good and soft chambray button down that looks great worn many different ways.

Ali-Shaun found another great work outfit with the Halogen pants and plum colored jacket. The jacket is on the lightweight side and isn’t too dressy or casual – a nice in between. The shorter jacket style gives her a longer leg line.

The beauty department is one to look at for stocking up on old faves or trying something new. I’m good on my favorite fragrance, but happy to see it in the sale! I’m a big believer in blush to add that youthful glow to your cheeks, and this one looks so gorgeous!

Many years ago, I did fake lashes, but realized they weren’t worth the time, expense and I prefer a more natural look – BUT I do know that lash serums work and help you grow longer, thicker lashes. This set includes the lash and brow serums, plus thickening mascara.

Oribe hair products are a splurge I’m willing to make, but so much better when you can get them on sale! The Gold Lust collection is designed to repair damaged hair.

I’ve definitely fallen for many Elemis skincare products over the last couple of years and the cleansing balm is really good. Very comparable to CR Radiant Cleansing Balm.

I haven’t tried LaMer, but I know it’s a favorite among many. If that’s you, you’re in luck!

T3 is another big hit for the NSale and the hair dryer brush is $50 off!

I always love looking at the home decor category of the Nordstrom Sale. I’ve scored many a favorite blanket over the years! My favorite have become the UGG blankets and they have several styles this year.

They also have Barefoot Dreams in a cool ribbed texture and the Lola that are especially great as a throw at the end of your bed. But, why am I cracking up at the online pics of those guys all cuddled up in the blankets, one showing off his abs?!

Boll & Branch sheets are in the sale this year! We love ours, they get softer with every wash.

Very cool that the hard case luggage includes the travel duffel. Which reminds me . . . honeymoon plans are underway! If you prefer Delsey, they also have a suitcase and duffle set in the NSale this year.

You saw the Our Place cookware on my wishlist and I’m loving that color.

I also think the home department is a great place to shop for gifts like the Voluspa candles, colored wine glasses, and lazy suzan charcuterie board. I know Rhonda would like that! And Ali-Shaun gifted her the wine glasses already!

Our Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Wishlists

Hi friend! I hope you are doing awesome! I’m so excited to shop the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale with Ali-Shaun and Natalie tomorrow! If you haven’t met Ali-Shaun, she’s one of my best friends and also my maid-of-honor for our upcoming wedding.

And Natalie is my right arm beautiful assistant that keeps my blog running smoothly and makes working so much more fun! She’ll help keep us organized tomorrow while we shop and make sure everything gets linked for you!

I was suprised that it was mostly the flats that caught my eye in the shoe department. Of course the Barefoot Dreams lounge set and Moonlight Dreams pajamas are on my list. I’ve learned not to get too excited about sweaters because in Houston, they don’t get as much wear as I would hope.

I did see several tops I was interested in though, along with jeans, and I could really use a fresh set of my favorite undies and a new bra.

Not surprisingly, the sleek and minimalish Tory Burch bag caught my eye. I’ve been carrying a more minimal purse lately and love the natural boundary it provides. I don’t feel overwhelmed by my bag.

I’ve also got my eye on the Our Place cookware, steak knives (Elliott’s been grilling lots of meat lately), and that cute terracotta pot with the wavy edge!

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2026

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale starts tomorrow for ICON members to shop! Tuesday Ambassador level shops (me & Ali-Shaun!). Thursday it’s Influencer level and EVERYONE can shop on Monday, July 18!

Although we can’t shop yet, we can add items to our wishlist and I’ve started doing that. It’s a good idea since things always sell out so fast during the NSale. If you have your wishlist ready, you can easily move things to your cart when you’re ready to check out.

Just look for this little bar and click the heart to save the item to your wishlist.

Today I’m sharing some of the very favorite items that are included in the NSale, along with some tips for shopping intentionally.

As expected, Nordstrom is bringing back several beloved items to the Anniversary Sale. These are things you may want to shop since they are tried and true pieces that reach cult status year after year. Think Barefoot Dreams, the BEST strapless bra, seamless undies, and beauty faves.

Tips for Intentional Shopping

Intentional clothing shopping is about making conscious choices that reflect your style, budget, and values. Focus on quality, versatility, and fit so you can build a wardrobe that’s not just a closet full of clothes with nothing to wear.

1. Assess Your Wardrobe

Inventory Check: Take stock of what you already own. Identify items you wear frequently and those you don’t.
Gaps and Duplicates: Look for gaps in your wardrobe and avoid purchasing duplicates unless they serve a distinct purpose.

2. Define Your Style

Identify Your Aesthetic: Understand your personal style preferences.
Create a mood board or save images that represent the look you like.

3. Set a Budget and Plan

Budget: Allocate a specific budget so you don’t regret it later. I use my Nordstrom card, but always pay in full every month. Fashion is NOT worth going into debt over.

Invest in Staples: Spend more on high-quality basics that you’ll wear often, such as a good pair of jeans, a classic blazer, a versatile dress, or bag.

Hi friend! Yay for Friday and the weekend! I have been knee deep in studying for my certified personal trainer exam, but doing it at a coffee shop makes it more enjoyable! I’ve been hopping around to different coffee shops and started making a list of places to visit.

I really like crochet knits in the summer and the trapeze style is comfortable and easy breezy.

I think these shorts are super cute with the polished seaming in a darker wash. They do run big so they were too large on me. I’d recommend sizing down.

These are the Loft kick crop jeans. I love this style with a comfortable high waist, no distressing, sewn hem at the ankle that feels dressier.

I just paired with that swingy blouse that I liked and think it’s so cute.

This dress is adorable for a date night or summer party. It’s comfortable with a smocked bodice and adjustable straps.

I also really like the movement in the bubble hem skirt and love that it has pockets!

This dress feels so good on, almost a spandex feel to it. It’s made like a wrap dress with a knot at the waist instead of a tie. It’s got a asymmetrical hem that’s fun!

I am loving all these dresses. This one is stretchy with a ribbed texture and demure side slit on the left.

I think this is great for vacay because you could roll it up without getting it wrinkled. Plus it’s easy to dress up or wear casually.

A white dress always scream summer to me. This one is super cute in a cotton material that feels cool to the skin.

It’s fully lined, with ruching at the neckline and some fun movement.

I’m crazy for this silky dress in this beautiful pattern. It’s comes down to a deep v-neckline without being too revealing and zips up the side.

I think it’s great if you have any summer weddings and will carry you into the fall because of the colors.

Hi friend! I hope you are doing awesome and that summer is being good to you. I’m knee deep in studying for my CPT exam, but I’ve pulled my head out of the books to share lots of fun summer styles.
