I was surprised how good this romper feels on. You simply step into it, and there are bike shorts underneath and then a relaxed skort on top.

Today, I wanted to share my latest fitness update with you. I’m getting very close to my goal, which is so exciting. When you’ve spent so much time working on a very long term goal, it’s hugely rewarding to come close to the finish line.

Cut Phase : Weeks 8-10

After spending the past nine focused on building muscle, I officially started my cut 10 weeks ago! A cut phase is where all the work you’ve put into building muscle starts to show. It’s the phase where you intentionally create a calorie deficit so your body taps into stored fat for energy while doing everything you can to maintain the muscle you’ve built.

What My Macros Look Like Now

In a cut, you’re eating slightly less than your body needs to maintain its current weight. This deficit is what drives fat loss. But the key is not to drastically slash calories. You still need enough fuel to : 1) support your workouts, 2) maintain muscle and, 3) keep your energy, mood and hormones in a good place.

At the end of my build, I was eating in a calorie surplus (almost 2,400 calories a day!) with one even higher carb day:

Now, I’m down to eating 1,505 calories a day and still have one higher carb day a week.

Having a “high day” bumps up my carbs and gives my metabolism a boost. It helps restore glycogen and also lowers stress levels, along with adding in a psychological component where I look forward to having a day with more food, which makes the rest of the week more doable.

Week 6 is where I started feeling hungrier. It’s not terrible, but it’s less food and calories than I’ve been used to eating, so I felt it. In the last week, I’ve been feeling more food focused, like eating one meal and already thinking about the next.

I’ve also started wanting to change up what I eat after eating the same thing on repeat for months. I love my colorful beauty salad and also made a veggie noodle soup that turned out delicious. It’s so comforting, especially if you’re under the weather.

Easy Healing Noodle Soup

Perfect for sore throats, under-the-weather days, or a cozy lunch.

Ingredients

• 8 cups chicken broth
• 2 celery stalks, chopped
• 1 yellow onion, diced
• 1 (12 oz) bag frozen peas & carrots
• 2 cups egg noodles
• 1 chicken bouillon cube
• Salt & pepper to taste

Instructions

1. Heat cooking spray in a large pot over medium heat.
2. Add onion and celery and sauté for 5-7 minutes, until softened and fragrant.
3. Pour in chicken broth and add the chicken bouillon cube. Stir until dissolved and bring to a gentle simmer.
4. Add the frozen peas and carrots and cook for 5 minutes.
5. Stir in egg noodles and cook according to package directions (usually 6–8 minutes) until tender.
6. Season with salt and pepper to taste and serve warm.

I’m also eating more sauteed veggies like green beans, squash and zucchini and had pasta on my high carb day.

Friday nights have become our family burgers and brats nights where Elliott cooks.

Last week, with graduation and family in town, we ate out three times. I normally eat my meals at home so that was a big change for me. It’s really easy to overeat calories when you can’t control how the meal is prepared.

To make sure I stay on track as best as possible, I’ll look at the restaurant menu ahead of time to plan what I’m going to eat.

I usually look for a lean protein and grilled veggies. Most restaurants have that option and it’s usually delish!

I got the petite filet above and just scraped off the butter.

But I have to say this platter of food that the end of the table got looked soooo good!

I love the salmon salad bowl at Cedar Creek, I just order it with no dressing and it’s yummy!

Even at Mexican restaurants, I’ll order the fish and veggies and ask for any topping on the side or just omit.

Training + Cardio Changes

My strength training is staying the same. I’m still lifting four days a week and I detailed those workouts for you here.

I’m also doing three MISS sessions (moderate intensity steady state) for 25 minutes each and one 20-minute HIIT session. For the HITT session, I do sprint intervals where I run on the treadmill all out effort for 30 seconds, then recover at a fast walk for 1:30 minutes. I do that six times, which I like because it goes fast!

I’m still aiming for 10,000 steps a day, drinking about 100 ounces of water, and staying consistent with my strength training.

I had run out of my Fit Peptide that I love to put in my morning water and I’m so glad to have it back again. I love the taste and it definitely gives me a little pep for my walk and morning workout.

I also still add 5 mg of creatine to my water too.

Elliott and I love to go on walks together and it’s good for our relationship.

I keep a written log of everything and I love being able to look back at my progress over the months. What you measure gets managed.

Results So Far

The photo above shares the end of my build phase/beginning of my cut to now. I can tell a big difference in how I feel leaner and lighter and my clothes fit much better.

And I always like to look back and see where it all started. So wild how our bodies can transform over time with consistency.

What’s Next?!

I was hoping I’d be at my goal before Denver, then of course, life threw a curveball and I got sick. Such a bummer and I went to my doctor and she gave me a steroid shot, which immediately jumped the scale up a few pounds. And, I haven’t been as tight on my macros this last week, so I’ll have to get back to it when I get home.

I’ll have 10 days, then Elliott and I go out of town for a weekend trip.

One thing I’ve learned throughout this last year and a half is that my fitness goal isn’t a sprint, it’s a lifelong journey. I do set mini goals along the way, and find that’s helpful so that the long term doesn’t feel so overwhelming. Sometimes you just have to take it day by day.

I’ve come to embrace the process and have truly transformed my life, which is ultimately a much bigger win than dropping a few pounds on the scale.

Having said that, I’m still always approaching this with an attitude of curiosity and really can’t wait to see how my body changes when I do lose a few more pounds of body fat!

This is our 5th annual mother/son trip and I’m so looking forward to this alone time with him. So far, we’ve been to Minneapolis, Miami, San Diego and NYC. We typically choose a destination where we can catch a baseball game and spend a couple days exploring the city.

For this trip, we decided on Denver, although Chicago was a close second. I’m still finalizing the itinerary, but I was able to book a white water rafting trip for us. Neither of us have ever done that and it’s not something that we can do at home in Houston.

What I’m Packing for Denver

We’ll be in Denver for just a couple of days, so I don’t need a ton of things. The weather will be in the mid 50’s to high 70’s while we’re there. We’re only bringing a carry on, so I’ll be packing light.

Travel Outfit/Dinner Outfit

I want to be comfortable for a day of traveling and sight seeing, so jeans, a v-neck tank and lightweight jacket with comfy shoes for the win.

Wedding Planning

We are getting lots of things done over here! Y’all saw our spring cleaning and home refresh and we’ve also started wedding planning! If you missed the history, I shared all about our love story here. I’m so thankful for this man!

For months, we were simply engaged with no plans at all, then we finally landed on a date and chose a venue, and now my maid-of-honor and planner extraordinaire Ali-Shaun has come over to help with more of the details and we feel wayyyy less overwhelmed. And excited!

Ali-Shaun is the perfect person to help with this kind of thing. She knows me and Elliott really well and we’re both so comfortable with her. Plus, planning parties and bringing people together is her superpower, so we’re extra lucky there.

We now have a timeline of events and things-to-do, which is a big accomplishment! And y’all know I love a list!

This is the general outline Ali-Shaun helped come up with and we went over together recently:

Now – June 2026 (5–6 Months Out)

• Book remaining vendors: Photographer, videographer, DJ or band, florist, and officiant should be secured as soon as possible. Fall is a popular wedding season in Houston. We have the florist and officiant (one of Elliott’s best friends), still need a photographer/DJ and Elliott said he’d love to have a guitar or harp play as I walk down the aisle.
• Send Save-the-Dates: done!
• Wedding Website: done!
• Wedding party attire: Bridesmaids and groomsmen should order their outfits now for shipping and alterations. The men in the wedding will wear dark navy suits and Elliott will gift them their tie and dress socks.
• Bride’s dress: Going shopping early June
• Caterer/menu planning: Since Ouisie’s Table is a restaurant venue, confirm the menu, tasting date, and dietary accommodation options: We plan to have dinner there soon and do some tasting.
• Book hotel room blocks for out-of-town guests – Ali-Shaun will send a few hotels/AirBNB to look into
• Plan honeymoon and book travel/accommodations. Researching now, Greece is out

July – August 2026 (3–4 Months Out)

• Invitations sent – via Wedding Website
• Order wedding cake or dessert and schedule a tasting – venue providing the wedding cake
• Book rehearsal dinner venue – We may not do a rehearsal dinner, still deciding??
• Plan ceremony details: readings, vows, music selections, processional order. We have the processional order, but need the rest
• Purchase wedding bands if not already done. I have my rings, but Elliott still needs his
• Book hair and makeup artists: I may do my own hair and makeup??

September 2026 (2–3 Months Out)

• Finalize floral designs and décor plan with florist. Have sent some inspo pictures
• Arrange transportation (shuttle for guests, getaway car, etc.).
• Book hotel for after wedding
• Register for gifts – we will let guests know that we have everything we need and their presence is our gift!

October 2026 (4–6 Weeks Out)

• RSVP deadline (aim for mid-to-late October, about 2–3 weeks before the wedding).
• Final dress fitting.
• Finalize seating chart and place cards once RSVPs are in.
• Obtain marriage license (in Texas, the license is valid for 90 days, so anytime from mid-August onward works, but many couples do this 2–4 weeks before).
• Write vows if doing personal vows. Will do, I’m crying already!
• Finalize day-of timeline and share with wedding party and vendors.
• Plan rehearsal and confirm attendees for rehearsal dinner.

Late October – Early November 2026 (1–2 Weeks Out)

• Final headcount to Ouisie’s Table and confirm catering/bar details.
• Prepare final vendor payments, tips, and envelopes.
• Break in wedding shoes.
• Confirm honeymoon reservations.
• Assemble emergency kit (sewing kit, stain remover, pain reliever, extra bobby pins, etc.).

Week of November 7, 2026

• Rehearsal and rehearsal dinner – November 6
• Deliver final items to venue: guest book, card box, décor, favors, etc.
• Confirm timeline with wedding party (hair/makeup call times, photo times, ceremony start).
• Relax and enjoy the day!

Houston-Specific Considerations

• Weather: Early November in Houston is one of the more pleasant times of year, average highs in the low-to-mid 70s°F with lower humidity than summer. This is a great time for any outdoor elements, though a rain backup plan is always wise.
• Texas marriage license: Both parties must appear together at the county clerk’s office. There is a 72-hour waiting period after issuance before the ceremony can take place (unless waived by completing a premarital education course).

Since we’re planning to get married outdoors in November, it will be right after daylight savings so it will get dark early.

Elliott and I both agreed that we want to have an intimate celebration that is traditional in that it honors the significance of the event, but also feels relaxed and easy. We want to throw a party and get married in the middle of it.

We’ll have guests arrive and mingle with them with h’orderves and cocktails, then have the guests be seated for the ceremony. We’ll have a seated dinner and cake, followed by festivities and dancing.

We have narrowed down the colors for the wedding – soft pinks, dusty rose and dark green.

I’m finally going to look at wedding dresses in early June and hope to find something elegant and inexpensive! I did a search online and asked AI to put this style of dress on me and I really like it. Maybe I can find something similar??

I absolutely love my engagement/wedding rings. It’s a set of four delicate rings that are simply stunning. I can wear one or all, but usually wear all of them because they’re so pretty together.

Elliott still needs a ring so we can exchange them at the ceremony, but is also considering getting a tattoo on his ring finger. I told him if he wants to get a tattoo that would be fun to get it at the wedding!

We’ll see . . . .

I’m so thankful to be marrying Elliott! And having Ali-Shaun by my side is such a relief. I’m loving that we have a list now and something to focus on as opposed to everything just swimming around in my head.

I just want things simple and easy and enjoyable and budget friendly! I’m open to all of your suggestions that help us accomplish that!

We’re still open to honeymoon suggestions! We heeded your warning that Greece would likely be too chilly in November to fully enjoy it!

Many of Elliott’s family is coming into town this week and we are really looking forward to spending time with them. We’ve been doing lots of spring cleaning and projects around the house to freshen it up.

But first, we all know how important sleep is! I’ve been going to bed around 9:30 a.m. and waking up before my alarm at 4:45 a.m. I love my quiet morning time, which is worth waking up early for. But, I am looking forward to summer where I can probably push it up an hour.

Spring has definitely sprung and our magnolia tree has the most gorgeous, giant blooms. I brought a few inside and they look so pretty in a dish. Unfortunately, they don’t last long clipped, only a few days.

Elliott has spent the last two weekends power washing everything. He started with the front of the house and did the house, front and back patios and driveway. It’s so satisfying to see the before and after!

He also cleaned the patio and we love sitting out here in the morning. We talk as I drink my coffee, but (gasp!) Elliott doesn’t like coffee!

After many years, we finally had to replace the chair cushions because they were starting to rip. I’m glad I could simply find replacement cushions because the actual chairs are still in great shape!

My Skincare Routine

One thing I’ve noticed in my 50s is that my skin has definitely changed. I’ve found that my skin is drier than it used to be, a little more sensitive, and doesn’t bounce back quite as quickly after late nights, stress, or too much sun. Fine lines and texture are just part of the process, but I’ve learned that consistency makes a big difference.

In my younger years, I focused more on treating breakouts and hyperpigmentation, but now hydration, skin barrier support and sun protection are my priorities.

I’ve simplified my routine a lot over the years and pay more attention to ingredients that support aging skin, like peptides, vitamin C, retinol, and moisturizers that help keep my skin from feeling dry or tight.

I also think skincare in your 50s is less about perfection and more about taking care of yourself in a way that feels sustainable and realistic.

Over the years, I’ve tested a lot of skincare products, but there are a few brands I consistently come back to. In today’s post, I’m going to share with you my tried and true skincare favorites and a few new products I’ve introduced into my beauty routine lately, including the popular red light therapy mask that I have a discount code for : HONEYCB for 10% off

My Skincare Routine

BUT FIRST, Dermaplane

I sometimes forget to do this, but I dermaplaned my face last week and it made such a big difference! Dermaplaning is basically shaving your face and it removes all that peach fuzz and exfoliates your skin by removing dead skin cells revealing fresh, brighter skin and helps with cell turnover.

I do swear by a lighted dermaplane razor – it helps you see so much better while you’re using it. The one I have is from Amazon and a few years old, so they have a new version now.

It’s always incredible so see all that peach fuzz come off your skin and it leaves your skin feeling so soft and smooth. Then, your skincare absorbs better and your makeup looks more flawless.

Cleanser

I have several cleansers that I rotate between depending on how my skin feels.

Radiant Cleansing Balm – one of my ride or die products that glides on and dissolves into a luxurious oil that removes impurities and leaves skin feeling soft and supple. I feel like I’m in a spa when I use it.

You can see I was scraping the bottom, so well loved!

So satisfying to open a fresh tub. I went ahead and got the jumbo size since I always reorder.

Purifying Cleanser – from Colleen’s Gentle & Clear line that’s designed for blemish prone, sensitive, and reactive skin. I initially bought it for my teen son, but ended up liking it so much that I use it myself too. The Purifying Cleanser combines the anti-inflammatory power of micro silver and charcoal to help reduce and prevent skin imperfections. It lifts impurities and unclogs pores, leaving my face feeling soft and clean.

I usually keep this on my bathtub and wash my face night there, so all the water drips into the tub instead of all over the counter.

While not technically a cleanser, I also really like the Elemis Dynamic Resurfacing Pads. You use these after cleansing as an additional step to physically sweep away dry skin, reducing the appearance of dullness, for a brighter and renewed complexion.

First, use the woven textured side over your face and neck in a circular motion. Next, use the smooth side for one final sweep to clear any dislodged skin, for a smooth and clean finish. I really like these if my skin starts getting clogged from my workouts and I also use them on my chest.

Last year, I discovered the Clean Skin Club Towelettes and really like using them. These are awesome because you use them to dry your face as opposed to using your bath towel that likely isn’t washed daily.

When you dry your face with the Clean Skin Club towel, your face isn’t exposed to that bacteria.

I LOVE these! I use them to pat my face dry, then also use them while applying my makeup. Anything I need to wipe off goes onto the towel, and then I can fold it up and wipe down my wet sink with it.

Serum

I always use the Vitamin C Brightening Serum in the morning after cleansing. It contains stabilized Vitamin C (THD Ascorbate) and the workhorse antioxidant Niacinamide, along with other powerful antioxidants. This blend helps improve the appearance of dark spots, smooths uneven skin texture, and brightens dullness while defending against the impact of environmental aggressors. 

My skin is more radiant and even toned since I started using and my hyperpigmentation on my cheeks has visibly diminished.

Other serums I may use as needed, but not necessarily everyday.

Mandelic Acid Radiance Serum – a gentle daily exfoliating treatment that helps improve skin texture, tone, fine lines, dark spots, and clogged pores by promoting healthy cellular turnover.

I swear by using the Vitamin C in the morning and then the Mandelic Acid Serum at night which made a huge difference in the hyperpigmentation on my cheeks. After using that combo for so long, the dark spots are barely there.

Age Renewal Super Serum – This serum fights six signs of aging : texture, dehydration, elasticity, fine lines, radiance and tone. It’s infused with more than 20 potent ingredients including peptides, collagen boosters, amino acids, vitamins and plant extracts. Apply a few drops all over your face, not forgetting your neck.

Hyaluronic Serum It provides superior moisture-binding hydration to help prevent transepidermal water loss “TEWL” (the amount of water that passively evaporates through skin due). TWEL can be triggered by certain skin conditions and also dry weather, spending time indoor with dry air conditioners and heaters, or overwashing with harsh soaps.

This Hyaluronic Serum has a thin, silky consistency, and doesn’t leave your skin feeling sticky or oily. It quickly absorbs and has no noticeable scent. You can apply it morning and night after cleansing and before moisturizer.

EYE Treatment

The delicate skin around the eyes needs special care to maintain its elasticity and brightness. The Retinol Supreme Eye Serum has retinol and vitamin C help revitalize the delicate skin around the eyes. It’s very gentle and a little goes a long way. 

I like how it has a metal applicator that glides along your under eye with a cooling feel. Then, you can use your ring finger to gently tap the product into the skin.

Moisturizer

The Extreme Recovery Cream works wonders for improving your stressed out skin while providing high levels of continuous moisture. In the winter especially, I notice that my skin is dry and needs high moisture. The Extreme Recovery Creme is one of my all-time faves since it’s very hydrating and moisturizing with a thicker consistency. Although I have combination skin, this rich creme does wonders for it and doesn’t make it feel greasy or oily. It also doesn’t break out my skin.

I often use the Face Oil No. 9  after or with the Extreme Recovery Creme (blending them together) and find that my face makeup goes on much smoother and looks more luminous and not cakey or flakey. Just a couple drops of the face oil is all you likely need.

Two of Colleen’s products I like for extra moisture are:

Moisture Veil Emulsion – Lightweight yet deeply hydrating moisturizer that helps lock in moisture without feeling heavy on the skin. It gives a radiant finish under makeup and recently won the 2026 Beauty Shortlist Awards! Also recently won the 2026 Beauty Shortlist Awards!

Intense Hydrating Mask – This is great for deep hydration for dry, dehydrated, or stressed skin. You can use it as a mask and wipe off after applying and leaving it for about 10 minutes, but I like to sleep in it. I wake up with plump, soft skin and fine lines diminished.

Sunscreen

It’s definitely recommended to use a broad spectrum SPF to protect your skin from damaging UVA and UVB rays, even in the winter.  And don’t forget to give your hands some love too.  Opinions differ on which step you should apply sunscreen, but Colleen and I agree, it’s the last step before makeup.

Colleen used to have a sunscreen that I really liked, but it’s been discontinued.

Red Light Therapy

I’ve heard so much about those red light therapy masks, even my mom has been raving about them! I didn’t think much of it, except that people look so funny wearing them!

Then, Current Body offered to send me one without any obligation, but they did give me a discount code to share HONEYCB for 10% off, so of course I wanted to try it.

The main reason I was interested is because I still have scars on my eyelid from my blepharoplasty procedure.

But the benefits are supposed to be amazing for reducing the visible signs of aging with firmer, brighter and smoother skin in just 4 weeks.

*I haven’t used it consistently enough to give my full, honest opinion about how it’s worked for me, but I will report back soon! I have to keep it out on my nightstand so I remember to use it!

You wear the mask for just 10 minutes a day, 3 – 5 times a week. The device is 100% painless and does not generate heat.

I always thought those masks were hard plastic when I saw them online, but after receiving one, I realized it’s a soft bendable material so it’s easier and more comfortable to wear than I imagined.

Blemishes

Perimenopause and pimples: proof that life is not fair! It’s sad that I had to use the Mighty Patches a couple of weeks ago, but they work! I had the biggest, ugliest zit right at the top of my left cheek.

You put the Mighty Patch on at night and it draws all the gunk out and you wake up with a visibly reduced pimple! Covering it also helps you not mess with it, which we all know only makes it worse.

They do have day patches also, which help conceal it while it heals.

One more thing I wanted to mention is body care. I apply lotion to my whole body after every shower, regardless of the season.

I swear by good ol’ Curel lotion for a basic moisturizer that doesn’t leave your skin feeling sticky or greasy. It has barely any scent and is such a budget friendly price. I’ve used it for decades.

But, this year I started trying some other lotions and I’ve really felt pampered! Such a small thing, but applying a more luxurious lotion with a lovely scent can be a little joy in life.

The Sol De Janeiro Limited Edition Cheirosa 71 Shimmering Body Cream is so rich with a deliciously sexy sent and some shimmer.

I like the Saltair Vanilla Body Butter and Sol de Janiero for day.

It’s has a light vanilla scent and a comes in a large 10-ounce jar.

I didn’t want to gate keep this special body cream, but I feel guilty even sharing it because it’s ridiculously expensive and was originally gifted to me.

To replenish it, I only buy it when it’s on sale and you can often find it on QVC but not the Elemis website.

I was looking online to see what exactly makes this cream so wonderful and it said that its “advanced formula has been specially designed to target visible signs of aging on the body, to firm the look of skin, and help restore hydration from head to toe.” Firm me up, baby!

It’s so silky with a lovely gel cream consistency and even Elliott has commented how soft my skin is when I use it. It also has a beautiful rose/mimosa scent but not totally like a rose – I don’t usually care for that scent, but this scent I love!

I use this cream at night before bed and it is just divine!
