(Lea Suzuki/San Francisco Chronicle/Corbis)

The Apple chairman and former CEO who made personal computers, smartphones, tablets, and digital animation mass-market products passed away.

Steven P. Jobs passed away on October 5th, 2011 after a long struggle with pancreatic cancer. He was just 56 years old.

9 things you didn’t know about the life of Steve Jobs

For all of his years in the spotlight at the helm of Apple, Steve Jobs in many ways remains an inscrutable figure — even in his death. Fiercely private, Jobs concealed most specifics about his personal life, from his curious family life to the details of his battle with pancreatic cancer — a disease that ultimately claimed him on Wednesday, at the age of 56.

While the CEO and co-founder of Apple steered most interviews away from the public fascination with his private life, there's plenty we know about Jobs the person, beyond the Mac and the iPhone. If anything, the obscure details of his interior life paint a subtler, more nuanced portrait of how one of the finest technology minds of our time grew into the dynamo that we remember him as today.

1. Early life and childhood
Jobs was born in San Francisco on February 24, 1955. He was adopted shortly after his birth and reared near Mountain View, California by a couple named Clara and Paul Jobs. His adoptive father — a term that Jobs openly objected to — was a machinist for a laser company and his mother worked as an accountant.

Later in life, Jobs discovered the identities of his estranged parents. His birth mother, Joanne Simpson, was a graduate student at the time and later a speech pathologist; his biological father, Abdulfattah John Jandali, was a Syrian Muslim who left the country at age 18 and reportedly now serves as the vice president of a Reno, Nevada casino. While Jobs reconnected with Simpson in later years, he and his biological father remained estranged.

2. College dropout
The lead mind behind the most successful company on the planet never graduated from college, in fact, he didn't even get close. After graduating from high school in Cupertino, California — a town now synonymous with 1 Infinite Loop, Apple's headquarters — Jobs enrolled in Reed College in 1972. Jobs stayed at Reed (a liberal arts university in Portland, Oregon) for only one semester, dropping out quickly due to the financial burden the private school's steep tuition placed on his parents.

In his famous 2005 commencement speech to Stanford University, Jobs said of his time at Reed: "It wasn't all romantic. I didn't have a dorm room, so I slept on the floor in friends' rooms, I returned coke bottles for the 5 cent deposits to buy food with, and I would walk the seven miles across town every Sunday night to get one good meal a week at the Hare Krishna temple."

3. Fibbed to his Apple co-founder about a job at Atari
Jobs is well known for his innovations in personal computing, mobile tech, and software, but he also helped create one of the best known video games of all-time. In 1975, Jobs was tapped by Atari to work on the Pong-like game Breakout.

He was reportedly offered $750 for his development work, with the possibility of an extra $100 for each chip eliminated from the game's final design. Jobs recruited Steve Wozniak (later one of Apple's other founders) to help him with the challenge. Wozniak managed to whittle the prototype's design down so much that Atari paid out a $5,000 bonus — but Jobs kept the bonus for himself, and paid his unsuspecting friend only $375, according to Wozniak's own autobiography.

4. The wife he leaves behind
Like the rest of his family life, Jobs kept his marriage out of the public eye. Thinking back on his legacy conjures images of him commanding the stage in his trademark black turtleneck and jeans, and those solo moments are his most iconic. But at home in Palo Alto, Jobs was raising a family with his wife, Laurene, an entrepreneur who attended the University of Pennsylvania's prestigious Wharton business school and later received her MBA at Stanford, where she first met her future husband.

For all of his single-minded dedication to the company he built from the ground up, Jobs actually skipped a meeting to take Laurene on their first date: "I was in the parking lot with the key in the car, and I thought to myself, 'If this is my last night on earth, would I rather spend it at a business meeting or with this woman?' I ran across the parking lot, asked her if she'd have dinner with me. She said yes, we walked into town and we've been together ever since."

In 1991, Jobs and Powell were married in the Ahwahnee Hotel at Yosemite National Park, and the marriage was officiated by Kobin Chino, a Zen Buddhist monk.

5. His sister is a famous author
Later in his life, Jobs crossed paths with his biological sister while seeking the identity of his birth parents. His sister, Mona Simpson (born Mona Jandali), is the well-known author of Anywhere But Here — a story about a mother and daughter that was later adapted into a film starring Natalie Portman and Susan Sarandon.

After reuniting, Jobs and Simpson developed a close relationship. Of his sister, he told a New York Times interviewer: "We're family. She's one of my best friends in the world. I call her and talk to her every couple of days.'' Anywhere But Here is dedicated to "my brother Steve."

6. Celebrity romances
In The Second Coming of Steve Jobs, an unauthorized biography, a friend from Reed reveals that Jobs had a brief fling with folk singer Joan Baez. Baez confirmed the the two were close "briefly," though her romantic connection with Bob Dylan is much better known (Dylan was the Apple icon's favorite musician). The biography also notes that Jobs went out with actress Diane Keaton briefly.

7. His first daughter
When he was 23, Jobs and his high school girlfriend Chris Ann Brennan conceived a daughter, Lisa Brennan Jobs. She was born in 1978, just as Apple began picking up steam in the tech world. He and Brennan never married, and Jobs reportedly denied paternity for some time, going as far as stating that he was sterile in court documents. He went on to father three more children with Laurene Powell. After later mending their relationship, Jobs paid for his first daughter's education at Harvard. She graduated in 2000 and now works as a magazine writer.

8. Alternative lifestyle
In a few interviews, Jobs hinted at his early experience with the psychedelic drug LSD. Of Microsoft founder Bill Gates, Jobs said: "I wish him the best, I really do. I just think he and Microsoft are a bit narrow. He'd be a broader guy if he had dropped acid once or gone off to an ashram when he was younger."

The connection has enough weight that Albert Hofmann, the Swiss scientist who first synthesized (and took) LSD, appealed to Jobs for funding for research about the drug's therapeutic use.

In a book interview, Jobs called his experience with the drug "one of the two or three most important things I have done in my life." As Jobs himself has suggested, LSD may have contributed to the "think different" approach that still puts Apple's designs a head above the competition.

Jobs will forever be a visionary, and his personal life also reflects the forward-thinking, alternative approach that vaulted Apple to success. During a trip to India, Jobs visited a well-known ashram and returned to the U.S. as a Zen Buddhist.

Jobs was also a pescetarian who didn't consume most animal products, and didn't eat meat other than fish. A strong believer in Eastern medicine, he sought to treat his own cancer through alternative approaches and specialized diets before reluctantly seeking his first surgery for a cancerous tumor in 2004.

9. His fortune
As the CEO of the world's most valuable brand, Jobs pulled in a comically low annual salary of just $1. While the gesture isn't unheard of in the corporate world — Google's Larry Page, Sergey Brin, and Eric Schmidt all pocketed the same 100 penny salary annually — Jobs has kept his salary at $1 since 1997, the year he became Apple's lead executive. Of his salary, Jobs joked in 2007: "I get 50 cents a year for showing up, and the other 50 cents is based on my performance."

In early 2011, Jobs owned 5.5 million shares of Apple. After his death, Apple shares were valued at $377.64 — a roughly 43-fold growth in valuation over the last 10 years that shows no signs of slowing down.

He may only have taken in a single dollar per year, but Jobs leaves behind a vast fortune. The largest chunk of that wealth is the roughly $7 billion from the sale of Pixar to Disney in 2006. In 2011, with an estimated net worth of $8.3 billion, he was the 110th richest person in the world, according to Forbes. If Jobs hadn't sold his shares upon leaving Apple in 1985 (before returning to the company in 1996), he would be the world's fifth richest individual.

While there's no word yet on plans for his estate, Jobs leaves behind three children from his marriage to Laurene Jobs (Reed, Erin, and Eve), as well as his first daughter, Lisa Brennan-Jobs.

Time jobs, Part time jobs, Job part time, On Line job, online jobs or whatever you call it, here’s the solution.

Click this link or site: The On Demand Global Workforce

Create an Account. Register or Start as a Contractor.

Fill-up the forms. This is real life so don’t fake your profile. Describe your self as what you are and what you have.

Complete your profile. Fill-up your Resume and add your portfolio if possible.

Take the readiness test. Taking this will increase your job application quota.

Take a test. This is optional but taking test is an additional point for the employer to hire you.

Find a job. Search for the job that fits your skills or interest then apply for it. Most of the Fixed Rate is part-time job. Hourly rate needs your time dedication to the job.

Apply. Because this is real life, you need to bid for the job. Make the best cover letter to impress the employer. Be ready on the interview and work professionally if hired.

File under:

How to work from home

Time jobs

Part time jobs

Job part time

On line job

Home work

The stand-up comedian releases his debut album entitled “Lakas Tama” under Vicor Music and is now finally out in your favorite records bars and music store nationwide.

In his debut album, Vice Ganda renders different musical styles. It gives a little bit of rap, hip hop and ballad in the remake of the songs. And in this album the noisy rock rhythm of the song Lakas Tama turns into emotional ballad.

This album will surely bring you Laugh Out Loud as Vice Ganda enters his witty punch lines you’ve heard from his TV Shows and bars.

The album is composed of 8 tracks which includes the song party party, hiding inside myself, ituloy mo land, lakas tama, ayoko na sa’yo, may puso rin kami, palong-palo, and good vibes.

The team used a similar approach to
printing photos with an inkjet printer

Solar energy may soon become easier to capture, say researchers who have developed a novel method to produce solar cells using inkjet printing.

Oregon State University researchers have come up with a technology similar to that commonly used to print documents and photos.

They say their method is quicker and less expensive than traditional solar cell manufacturing techniques.

It could also reduce raw material waste by 90%, they add.

As people move away from conventional combustion-type technologies, more attention is paid to renewable energy types, and solar energy is one of them.

It is known as a clean and sustainable form of energy, but this is offset by the manufacture of solar panels which is an expensive and complicated process.

Finding a balance between costs of production and efficiency could become key to future manufacture of solar cells, and many scientists around the world have been concentrating on developing new materials and methods to do that.

The recent inkjet approach is one of those novel methods.

"This is very promising and could be an important new technology to add to the solar energy field," said Professor Chih-hung Chang, the lead author of the study, which appeared in Solar Energy Materials and Solar Cells journal.

"Solar energy is the most abundant and clean energy source on Earth.

"Considering the high price of petroleum and other fossil fuels, solar cells will definitely have a bright future."

(SPOT.ph) Filipino boxing champion Manny Pacquiao has been tapped to promote HP's new TouchPad tablet, his first global endorsement deal, Pacquiao's promoter Top Rank told Manila Standard Today. According to the report, neither Top Rank nor HP divulged how much the deal was worth, but the website Campaign Singapore estimated it to be worth US$1 million per year.

Top Rank said they submitted Pacquiao's name to HP, who was looking for an endorser for its TouchPad tablet, reports Manila Standard Today. Pacquiao's campaign will include HP laptops, printers, smart phones and other products.

Campaign Singapore wrote, "Confusion surrounding Pacquiao's representation had left many international brands reluctant to sign the boxing superstar, despite his multi-million-dollar appeal and fanatical fan base... But because Pacquiao's sponsorship deals tended to be domestic within his native Philippines, he was free to embark (on) the HP deal."

Pacquiao has also signed a three-year contract to endorse Texas-based State Street Produce, a company that supplies restaurants in the US, reports Manila Standard Today. The trade name "Pacquiao's Produce" will be featured in advertisements, produce boxes, delivery trucks and more.

One of ESPN The Magazine's Best Paid Athletes of 2010, Pacquiao has also been named the first billionaire in the House of Representatives, reports Inquirer.net. Ricardo Bering, chief of the House records division, said yesterday that the Sarangani congressman reported a net worth of over P1 billion in his statement of assets, liabilities and net worth.

The long-awaited white model of the iPhone 4 is finally available, nearly a year behind schedule.

Apple said Wednesday that white iPhone 4s can be bought through Apple's online store starting Thursday or at Apple stores and authorized retailers.

Apple planned to begin selling the white iPhone along with the black model in June of last year but its release was repeatedly delayed by manufacturing challenges in a rare setback for the California gadget-maker.

"The white iPhone 4 has finally arrived and it's beautiful," Apple's senior vice president of worldwide product marketing Philip Schiller said Wednesday.

"We appreciate everyone who has waited patiently while we've worked to get every detail right," Schiller said in a statement.

Apple said the white iPhone 4 will be available on Thursday in Austria, Australia, Belgium, Britain, Canada, China, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Macau, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand and the United States.

Apple sold 18.65 million iPhones last quarter, up 113 percent over a year ago.

Star Magic talent AJ Perez

AJ Perez, or Antonello Joseph Sarte Perez in real life, was pronounced dead at 12:20 a.m.

The cause of his death, according to reports, is "multiple head injuries," which he sustained after his vehicle was hit by a bus and a truck in Paniqui, Tarlac.

Showbiz reporter Ogie Diaz had the chance to talk to the young actor's parents.

On his Twitter, he wrote the reaction of Mr. Gerardo Perez (published as is): "Sana, panaginip lang to, Ogie. Si Aj ang buhay namin ng mami nya, bakit sya pa? Sana, ako na lang."

Mr. Perez was with his son when the accident happened. A security personnel and the driver were also inside the van they rented.

AJ's mom Victoria was still reeling from shock when she spoke to Ogie via phone. Her words, according to Ogie's tweet: "Tinanong ko si dadi, bat ang tagal nilang umuwi? Pauwi na raw sila from Dagupan, pero nag-aalala pa rn ako, d ko alam kumbakit balisa ako."

The Star Magic talent just finished his show in Dagupan, Pangasinan, which celebrated its annual Bangus Festival.

Here's the rest of Ogie's reports via @ogiediaz:

AJ is set to star in an episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya this April 30. Prior to this, he became one of the male leads in the TV series Sabel.

About four hours ago, he tweeted, "On the way home already from Dagupan.Long drive ahead.. Thanks to everybody who watched..." That was his last Twitter update @ajperez17.

"HCPI [Honda Cars Philippines Inc.] is temporarily reducing 50 percent of its production volume from April 2011," the Philippine unit said in a statement that cited reduced supplies of imported parts.

The subsidiary did not say how this would translate in terms of numbers of vehicles assembled.

"Honda will closely monitor the situation and strive to resume normal production operations the soonest," it said.

Honda markets the Civic, Accord and CR-V models in the Philippines along with two sub-compact cars. As a whole, the Southeast Asian country had total vehicle sales of nearly 168,500 last year, according to industry data.

Honda is one of several carmakers to feel the ripple effects of Japan's worst natural disaster in nearly a century, which has disrupted an array of industries worldwide.

If you own a tablet computer, chances are you're playing games with it.

That's the take home message from a new survey conducted by Google's AdMob division. The survey of 1,430 tablet owners found that gaming was far and away the most frequent activity.

A surprising 84% of those surveyed claimed they played games, easily outpacing other entertainment choices including music/video (51%) and ebooks (46%). More surprising, however, is that gaming even beat out standard tablet tasks like searching for information (78%), emailing (74%), and reading news (61%).

Though the AdMob survey doesn't break the data down by specific tablets, it's pretty clear that the success of the game-friendly iPad has a lot to do with the results. Over 15 millions iPads have been sold worldwide, and games have largely dominated the App Store since day one. Perhaps gaming's influence will lessen a bit as new devices from the likes of Samsung and Motorola begin rolling out, but it's unlikely.

The survey also noted that, contrary to popular opinion, most tablet owners (82%) primarily use their device at home and that 43% use their tablet more often than their desktop or laptop computers. 77% added that their desktop/laptop usage has dipped since getting a tablet.

Commodore USA
The new Commodore 64
comes with all the modern
amenities needed to surf
the Web and play video
games.

The Commodore 64 is being re-released for the modern computer user.

I was just 6 years old when the Commodore 64 computer went on sale in the summer of 1982. Although I already owned a computer at the time -- a ZX Spectrum -- I remember my excitement about possibly getting my little hyperactive hands on the newly released Commodore.

At the time, the Commodore computer cost $595 and came with a whopping 64 kilobytes of memory. It also contained a graphics and sound card that stood apart from other computers of the day.

Now, nearly 30 years later, the Commodore brand has taken on new management and is re-releasing its flagship computer, this time with all the amenities of a modern-day computer packed inside.

In its heyday, the Commodore 64 was one of the most successful home computers made, shipping more than two million units a year for almost a decade after its release. Although exact numbers don't exist, experts estimate that the company sold between 15 and 30 million Commodore 64 computers.

But the Commodore 64's success was short-lived. Commodore International, the maker of the computer, declared bankruptcy in 1994 after several bad business decisions and aggressive competition from I.B.M. and Apple.

Barry Altman, president and chief executive of Commodore USA, said he purchased the Commodore trademark in September of last year with the goal of reviving the company and offering a product that no longer exists.

"Thirty years ago computers were an all-in-one product, with the keyboard, memory and components built inside," Mr. Altman explained. "Over the years that has changed, and we believe there is a huge potential to revive the early format."

The new Commodore 64, which will begin shipping at the end of the month, has been souped up for the modern age. It comes with a 1.8 gigahertz dual-core processor, an optional Blu-ray player and built-in ethernet and HDMI ports. It runs the Linux operating system but the company says you can install Windows if you like. The new Commodore is priced between $250 to $900.

The company's Web site says that the new Commodore 64 is "a modern functional PC," and that although the guts of the device have greatly improved, the exterior is "as close to the original in design as humanly possible." Most people would not be able to visibly tell the old or new versions apart, it says.

"The response has been completely dramatic," Mr. Altman said. "We've been averaging about five registrations per second on our Web site. This is from people giving us their name and e-mail address to be kept abreast of updates on the new Commodore."

Some may wonder why someone would want to purchase this type of computer when a world of iPads and laptops exists.

Mr. Altman says he sees two types of customers for the new computer.

"There are a lot of really young computer users who want to own a retro-looking computer," he said. "And of course there are those 30- to 40-year-olds who owned the original Commodore 64 and want the nostalgia of their first machine."

However, only light vehicles will be allowed to pass through the bridge, which has been closed since July last year to make way for the construction of a new bridge and security plaza.

The move to give Zambales-bound vehicles temporary access to the Kalaklan bridge will avert traffic jams in Oongapo City, said SBMA administrator Armand Arreza. It will also facilitate the entry into the Subic Freeport of vehicles from Zambales during the Holy Week.

Arreza clarified that construction work will continue in the area during the re-opening, but designated lanes for light vehicles will be assigned for the safety of motorists.

Last January, the Kalaklan bridge was also opened to pedestrians, mostly workers in the Subic Bay Freeport.

TheKalaklan Lighthouse Bridge, which is the free port’s gateway to Zambales, is one of the four bridges connecting the free port zone to Olongapo City.

The Kalaklan bridge, along with the Main Gate bridge which leads to Magsaysay Drive, the city’s entertainment and business district was built by the U.S. Navy in the early 60’s.

The SBMA said that an average of 2,500 light vehicles and some 300 pedestrians passed through the Kalaklan bridge everyday when it was still operable. However, inspections revealed that the bridge already showed some structural defects, so the SBMA resolved to replace it with a new one.

In February 2010, construction began for the replacement bridge – a two-lane concrete structure with a covered walkway and a security plaza.

The project is expected to be completed by July this year.

The bridge construction project is part of SBMA’s efforts to build vital infrastructure for the planned expansion of the Subic Freeport into nearby areas, such as Olongapo City.

Banking is now IBM's largest client segment outside of government. IBM has been serving banks since it was formed in 1911.

"A smarter bank anticipates client needs and delivers innovative products faster and more consistently than the competition. It has full visibility, in real-time, of its risk position and responds quickly to changes in market conditions," he told the over 200 BAIPHIL convention participants.

Technology is indeed important to the banking industry, confirmed BAIPHIL First vice-president Agnes Brillantes-Santos. "It improves the way banks deliver their services to the clients, promotes efficiency from within and provides cost-efficient solutions."

Hence, BAIPHIL made Technology a major part of their biennial convention. The event brought together members from Metro Manila and provinces and featured general and technical sessions on best practices. The event also showcased booths with interactive presentations led by IBM and IBM Business Partners. Other service providers and information technology, software solutions/applications and telecommunication suppliers attended.

A decade ago, IBM began building a broad portfolio of software products designed specifically for banks. To make its technology platform more robust, IBM has formed technology and marketing partnerships with thousands of independent software vendors as well as many niche hardware vendors focused on aspects as varied as end user devices, networks, and trading systems.

In addition, within IBM research, thousands of engineers and scientists are developing technologies, methodologies, and math algorithms that can be used to make banking systems more efficient, agile, and intelligent.

Mathematicians have experience in creating specialized Monte Carlo simulations running on high-performance computing systems that analyze risk. Furthermore, IBM is investing $100 million just on research to enable new mobile services for businesses and consumers. A recent pilot program, called 'BlueStar,' will make it easier for banks to deploy new consumer banking services on smart phones.
It stood mighty proud till late evening. A few tourists walked past it, not knowing its impending fate.

Precy Sacapaño, a fifty-year-old mother of six used to make a living out of building sandcastles. She is one of the 31 men and women who build miniature replicas of castles along the beaches of Boracay in the municipality of Malay, Aklan—much to the delight of passersby and tourists. Even children helped build the sandcastles.

"I started playing with the white sand until I learned to make castles out of it," Precy recalled. "I began doing it in 2005. I was happy doing it at first until tourists were regaled by my sandcastle. I did not ask them to pay me. They just threw coins."

Precy and her companions were allowed to make their sandcastles freely without restrictions until January 15, 2008 when the local government started strictly implementing Municipal Ordinance No. 246.

The ordinance was enacted in 2007, regulating sandcastle-making on the beaches around the famous island resort. One reason for the passage of the ordinance was that huge quantities of sand are needed to make big sandcastles that are used as photography backdrops for a fee. The once unregulated commercial activity affected the natural terrain of the beach.

Sand sculptures have since then been strictly prohibited, except for promotional or special events with a mayor's permit. Aside from securing a permit, sandcastles could now only be built six meters "from the edge of the vegetation" and they should not hamper pedestrian flow along the beach.

"It is very expensive (to get a mayor's permit), but it's just us residents here (who are required to do so)," Precy said. "Visitors can make sandcastles as they please without having to worry about being penalized."

The ordinance provides that a resident who violates any provision of the sandcastle-making ordinance shall be fined P2,500. On the second and subsequent offenses, an additional penalty of 30 days imprisonment shall be imposed depending on the discretion of the court.

"It is also mandatory now for the proponents to restore the original terrain of the beach by leveling the sand and cleaning the area after the activity," according to Glenn Sacapaño, chief operating officer of Action Center, the extension or satellite office of the Municipal Mayor in Boracay.

From a daily staple at the beachfront, sandcastles eventually became a weekly sight. Nowadays, they are only to be seen on special occasions.

Vicky Gonzales, a native of Aklan and a regular visitor of Boracay said she misses the beautiful sand creations. Her family always looked forward to seeing sandcastles and posing beside them for their souvenir photos.

"I wonder where have all the talented sandcastle-makers gone?" Vicky asked. "How do they earn their keep now?"

Vicky recounted the days when she used to earn a whopping P2,500 daily from tourists who asked her and three other companions to make a smaller-than-life prototype of a sandcastle of their choice.

After a whole day spent soaking under the heat of the sun and a night of windy cool breeze, the four of them equally would divide the earnings for their family's daily subsistence.

Vicky would then walk less than two kilometers to her home, which is just at the back of the staggering resorts and hotels in Zone 5, Barangay Balabag. Most of the residents there now earn a living from selling knick-knacks, and working in construction sites and resorts.

Today, Precy, Vicky, and 30 other Zone 5 residents now have to pay P100 daily to the municipal government for every square meter of space they use in building sandcastles. On top of that, they have to pay P600 for a special permit to make one sandcastle for a company or for a special occasion.

"Unlike before, I only do it occasionally now," Precy said. "Getting a mayor's permit is a big deal for me. Of course, I will have to make sure ahead of time that somebody will hire me to make a sandcastle."

Precy is among Boracay residents who have to grapple with the challenge of preserving the environment, embracing modernity and, having to survive in between.

Department of Science and Technology (DOST) officials said unlike previous nuclear meltdowns such as Chernobyl, nuclear power plants in Japan have structures aimed at stopping the spread of the radioactive waste.

“Radiation, to minds of many, connotes negative effect,” said Dr. Alum dela Rosa, director of the DOST’s Philippine Nuclear Research Institute. “Radiation may reach us but from our interaction with the international atomic agency, we are ascertain that the design of this reactor is a boiling water reactor.”

“It is US-designed, it is different from Chernobyl design,” she explained.

DOST Secretary Mario Montejo told the ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC) that the situation in Japan should not be compared with Chernobyl.

“We have to distinguish that the plant in Japan is different from Chernobyl,” he stressed.

“It has [a] containment [unit],” he explained. “Even if there is meltdown, the radioactive waste is contained in reactor inside the structure.”

In a worst-case scenario, any radioactive cloud from Japan will not affect the Philippines, he added.

“Iyung worst case ng meltdown, for the next 3 days, it is not going to the Philippines to Australia,” Montejo said. “Even if, for the sense of comfort, ang wind pattern outside of Japan, ‘di pupunta sa atin.”

The Xperia Play is the first android smartphone with support for PlayStation games but faces tough competition from other phones and portable consoles including Sony's own NGP.

The device has been unveiled in Barcelona ahead of a mobile trade show in the Spanish city this week.

It's expected to go on sale in the UK in April.

It will be available on T-Mobile, Orange, Vodafone and O2.

The phone features a 4-inch touch screen and 5-megapixel camera but the main attraction will be the slide-out control pad with similar buttons to a PlayStation controller.

It will be the first phone to let users download games from the PlayStation Suite.

Downloads

Titles like Assassin's Creed, FIFA 10 and Need for Speed have already been announced.

Other phones will be able to support the PlayStation Suite when it is launched later this year.

Sony Ericsson has yet to say how much the Xperia Play will cost, or the price of downloading games.

Critics say good games are already available on hundreds of other smartphones and lots are free to download.

Sony Ericsson is hoping to win some of the smartphone market dominated by firms like Apple, Blackberry, HTC and Samsung.

Most of these phone makers are launching new products at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Philippine boxer Manny Pacquiao

MANILA, Philippines - Seemingly still not used to being censured, boxer Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao announced Sunday, Feb. 27, that he was to close his Twitter account, @congMP.

Apparently, Pacquiao received a couple of jabs from users of the popular network site concerning his English-a matter which he took personally.

He even went to confront one heckler directly, tweeting, "Sorry ha mas matalino ka kay saakin kaya asinso ang buhay mo ako ito simple lang paki tanong sa panginoon ty."

According to Pacquiao, opening a Twitter account was a friend's idea. He only acquiesced to the suggestion thinking it an apt platform to update fans.

He was humble enough to apologize for his grammar, but Pacman went on to proudly share that inasmuch as he is unfamiliar with the workings of Twitter, he was doing his own tweets, alleging that others of his ilk merely pay people to do the job.

Pacman's plan to cancel his account received howls of protests from fans.

Among those who rushed to Pacquiao's side was one Pilyosopo who tweeted the Saranggani congeressman, "Your english is too good to be @mannypacquiao's! guess what, i love your 'genuine' english; it's not flawless but you're proud of it."

Twitter user Chuzlee was equally adamant to stop Pacquiao from proceeding with his plans tweeting emphatically, "No sir Manny...twitter is one way to express yourself...everyone of can't please everybody.. Many people are supporting you!"

Alexerjohn wrote, "wag nyo pong e private ang account nyo sa twitter wag nyo nlang pong pansinin yan inggit lang po yan."

Pacquiao was quite thankful with the support as seen in his reply to the fans but was seemingly bent on going forward with his intention late Sunday.

"Humihingi po ako ng paumanhin sa lhat but I hve 2 delete it tmorrow pro hndi ako nagttampo tlagang ganon may mga tao tlagang iba ang utak."

Then again, Pacquiao might have eventually been appeased by the shower of support as he was still tweeting as of this writing.

"Going back to sarangani to do groundbreaking of additional court building and I'm gonna start my training there God Bless You All," he Tweeted about five hours ago.

Pacquiao opened a Twitter account Feb. 20, acquiring more than 4,000 followers barely two days into it. He now has 13,508 followers.

Stocks of PS3s could run out in weeks if ban is extended.

European customs officers have been told to seize all shipments of PlayStation 3s (PS3), following a patent row between Sony and LG.

LG has won a 10-day import ban on the games consoles from the civil court of justice in the Hague.

The long-running dispute between the two tech firms centres around the playback facility for Blu-Ray discs.

Custom officials in Holland have already seized tens of thousands of PS3s, according to reports.

Experts say that the ban, if extended, could affect the stock available in shops within three weeks.

LG claims that Sony PS3s infringe a number of patents relating to the playback of Blu-Ray discs.

It is also seeking a ban in the US and has filed a complaint with the US International Trade Commission (ITC).

The stakes are very high for LG, said patent solicitor Michael Coyle, of law firm Lawdit.

"It will have to pay an astonishing amount of money if a judge rules that its patent is invalid. When a firm seeks to have goods seized they make an undertaking to pay for storage and compensation," he said.

Patent rows between technology firms are nothing new but tend only to be played out among big firms with deep pockets.

"Patents are very subjective so a patent claim is very risky," said Mr Coyle.

The LG Sony row has a strong element of tit-for-tat.

In December, Sony filed a complaint against LG, seeking its own import ban on a list of mobile phones, saying they breached Sony phone patents.

Neither firm wanted to comment on the dispute.

The infection kicked off warnings from a fake security program

Booby-trapped adverts that hit visitors with fake security software have been discovered on the London Stock Exchange (LSE) website.

Analysis of the LSE site suggests that over the last 90 days, about 363 pages had hosted malware.

The LSE said its site was now safe and an investigation showed that ads provided by a third party were the culprit.

One victim claimed his PC was made unusable after being infected.

Security expert Paul Mutton fell victim when he viewed the site on 27 February.

He visited the LSE homepage to find out why some people reported that they could not access it.

The site was blocked by Firefox, he said, but accessible via Google's Chrome browser.

"It seemed to work with Chrome but then a few seconds later, without having to click on anything, pop-ups started to appear," he said.

The malicious code closed down several of the programs Mr Mutton was using and stopped new ones being started.

"I visited the site and it compromised my machine," said Mr Mutton.

While he was fighting to regain control of his machine, the malware kicked off fake virus alerts in pop-up windows. One window was a fake security scanner which claimed it had detected lots of different malware on the PC.

Mr Mutton said his machine fell victim despite being updated with the latest batch of virus definitions earlier in the day.
You can feel the love and pain with its lyrics and rendition of melody.

The theme was sung and written by Jericho Rosales and it is a new theme and not rehash to the original Korean drama Green Rose.

Green Rose is a local adaptation of the hit Korean Drama of the same title.

The original Green Rose was aired and dubbed Tagalog in 2005 on ABS-CBN. It stars Go Soo also known as Ko Soo (My Fair Lady, Marrying a Millionaire) and Lee Da Hae (My Girl) as a couple.

Green Rose Filipino Version is lead by Jericho Rosales and Anne Curtis. Also in the cast are Alessandra de Rossi, Tyron Perez, Gardo Versoza, and Ricardo Cepeda. Watch out for Green Rose Pinoy Version on ABS-CBN.

The Story
Lee Jung Hyun (Go Soo) works for a large corporation called SR Electronics and he falls in love with Su Ah (Lee Da Hae), daughter of the company’s chairman. Being framed for a murder case, Jung Hyun escapes to China where he meets a Chinese tycoon and becomes his right-hand man. In the name of a business venture with SR Electronics, Jung Hyun, with his name changed to Chan Jung Wong, returns to Korea to take revenge on those who have once set him up.
