The absense of Albert Haynesworth in 2009 showed as the Titans defense fell from the upper echelon of the NFL in 2008, to 28th in points allowed and yards allowed in 2009. The decline can’t fall entirely on the departure of Haynesworth, but certainly it was a factor.

Carlos Dunlap from the University of Florida stands at 6′6″, 290 lbs. In three seasons at Florida, Dunlap recorded 19.5 sacks, 8 deflected passes, and 3 blocked kicks, and he was the defensive MVP in Florida’s win over Oklahoma in the 2009 BCS National Championship game.

Dunlap was arrested and charged with DUI on December 1, 2009, so he comes with some baggage, but the upside is worth the risk as the Titans defense needs a game changer.

Chris Johnson was selected as the Associated Press Offensive Player of the Year, but I’m sorry that’s not good enough! How did Chris Johnson not get a single vote for league MVP? That is outrageous to this fan. And of course some jackass voted for Brett Favre. It’s a sham! CJ is quoted as saying, “I didn’t even get one vote at all (for MVP). Like the season I had, it seemed like, ‘What more do they want me to do?’” I have to agree! Let’s take a look at some of the CJ’s accomplishments in just 2 years in the NFL:

Most yards from scrimmage in a season (2,509). Yes the most yards in a season by ANY player at ANY position on ANY NFL team EVER!

1st NFL player EVER with at least 2,000 yds rushing and 500 yds receiving in a season

1st NFL player EVER to run for 3 touchdowns of 85 yards or more in a season

Ran for 800 yards in November, which is the best month EVER in NFL history

Tied NFL record of 6 consecutive games with at least 125 yds rushing

6th NFL player ever to reach 2000 yards rushing in a season

Currently has 11 consecutive 100-yard games and will start next season pursuing Barry Sanders’ record of 14

Rushed for 1,228 yards and 9 TDs as a rookie last year, while splitting carries.

Fastest 40-yard-dash EVER recorded at the NFL combine

No NFL player has ever rushed for 2,000 yards in a season twice. Barring injury, I expect to see that record fall in 2010. Move over Adrian Peterson. The first pick of every fantasy football draft next year should be Chris Johnson. The list of records broken in 2009 goes on and on. If I missed any please let me know!

Today the Tennessee Titans’ Chris Johnson became only the 6th player in NFL history to rush for more than 2,000 yards in a single season. CJ rushed for 134 yards and 2 TDs vs the Seattle Seahawks as the Titans won 17-13, and finished the season 8-8. The exclusive Club 2K’s membership now includes Eric Dickerson, OJ Simpson, Barry Sanders, Terrell Davis, Jamal Lewis, and Chris Johnson. A costly holding penalty in today’s game negated a 62 yard touchdown scamper from CJ that would have given him a shot at Dickerson’s single-season rushing record (2,105 yards). Johnson did manage to break Marshall Faulk’s single-season yards from scrimmage record set in 1999.

Titans fans are left wondering what could have been in 2009 if Vince Young had started the season. Would they still have started 0-6? One more win and maybe they’re in the playoffs. Two more wins and they’re definitely in. We’ll never know, but at least the season was not a total loss. Vince Young has solidified his starting role and Chris Johnson has established himself as the NFL’s premier running back. Who is YOUR #1 overall pick in next year’s fantasy draft?

Since when can a coach not verbally abuse a game official? Tennessee Titans defensive coordinator Chuck Cecil was fined $20K by the NFL on Thursday for sideline comments following a roughing the passer penalty during the Titans’ 42-17 loss to the San Diego Chargers on Christmas night. Every coach verbally abuses the game offcials at one point or another.

Jeff Fisher defended his first-year coordinator saying the official overheard Cecil talking to another coach on his headset. It has not been made public what Cecil said, but give me a break. It’s one thing to penalize a player for abusing an official, but I EXPECT my team’s coaches to verbally abuse the officials. That is their job!

It has been a wild season for the Tennessee Titans. An 0-6 start would have doomed most teams to insignificance. But not the Titans. Not with the most electric running back the NFL has seen since Barry Sanders.

Chris Johnson has had a standout season already with 10 straight 100 yard games, 3rd most in NFL history behind Sanders (14) and Marcus Allen (11), and he will try for the holy grail on Sunday. With 233 yards CJ would tie Eric Dickerson’s single season rushing record of 2,105 yards set in 1984. CJ can also join an exclusive club on Sunday with 128 yards to become only the 6th player in league history to reach 2,000 yards. CJ runs for 128 yards on an off day.

Until the Titans, no team had ever started a season 0-6 and then won 5 straight. No team has ever started 0-6 and finished 8-8. Since week 6 the only teams to beat the Titans are the undefeated Indianapolis Colts and the red hot San Diego Chargers. This Titans team dangerous and the Seattle Seahawks look like sitting ducks this week. The Seahawks have been outscored 106-24 over the last 3 games. Let’s see some records fall this week!

On a side note, if you haven’t checked out Buzzersports.com (see the ad on this blog) you should take a look. I took a look myself to do some holiday shopping and picked up an autographed Chris Johnson 8″x10″ for $45. I love the photo and think it was a steal with Adrian Peterson photos selling for $69. AP’s got nothin’ on CJ. Who’s YOUR #1 fantasy football pick next year?
