Paul Insect's 24 Hour London Exhibition

Hookedblog have been digging these hand painted paste-ups from London based artist Paul Insect for some time know. We have previous featured some of the work from this series when the artist recently hit the streets of Shoreditch on paste-up missions with Sweet Toof (covered here) following the duo's return from Mexico. For the latest series of works the artist has taken to the streets for a 24 hour outdoor exhibition featuring 24 brand new hand painted posters. We managed to catch the show earlier this afternoon to bring you a selection of photos of the new work. Should ye want to see the show get yourselves out East as the clock is ticking!

Cernesto's Elephant Murals in London

London's streets have recently seen an invasion of animals with a host of international street artists painting various wild life inspired murals across the city. The last month alone has seen a number of stunning new additions from Belgian artist ROA, one in South Bank (covered here) and another larger mural in Bethnal Green (covered here). We have also seen animal inspired murals from South African artist Faith47 (covered here), Israeli artist Dede (covered here) and not forgetting the many new creatures painted by DALeast (covered here and here).

Last week we took to the skies with American artist Cernesto as the artist painted his second mural in the city before he headed back to New York. Having previously painted a mural on Leonard Street featuring a collection of elephants and various other creatures (covered here), the artist made use of DALeast cherry picker, hitting the upper levels of the building on Grimsby Street just off Brick Lane, added two new elephant characters to the wall. New D*Face In London ?

With a new London show opening soon is this large paste-up Hookedblog spotted in South London the work of D*Face? What do you think! Looks a lot like the London artists work.

D*Face's upcoming solo show 'New World Disorder' at Stolen Space is set to open on the 7th June and it's possible the artist was taking a break from the studio and hitting the streets to generate some hype in the lead up to what is will be the last exhibition at the space before the gallery relocates and the adjoining artist studios in The Truman Brewery are demolished. We will bring you more info on the upcoming show when we have it.

ROA's New South Bank, London Mural

Street artist ROA has been in town for most of this month painting a number of new murals for the Baroque The Streets Festival taking place in Dulwich this weekend. We have already featured the epic mural the Belgian artist painted in Bethnal Green earlier this month (covered here).

ROA has been working over the last week working on the two additional murals for the Baroque The Streets festival, one on the side of the Victoria Pub and another in the Art House Space ( photos soon). With work now complete on these two additional murals for tonights festival opening it looks like ROA found time to bring some of his signature wild life creatures to the concrete jungle that is the South Bank Centre in South London.Check some of our photos below.

Cernesto New London Mural

American artist Cernesto passed through London over the weekend on route back to New York, but not before managing to get some paint up on some walls. We caught up with the artist in Shoreditch as he worked on this vibrant mural pictured here in the Leonard Street car park in East London which the guys at Global Street Art helped hook Cernesto up with. Check back with us for coverage of the artists other London mural which involved a cherry picker, a large balloon and a little help from the police.

DALeast New London Mural — Part 02

Chinese artist DALeast has been on fire since his arrival in London two weeks ago, painting non stop. We have previous featured one of DALeast's additions to the East London streets featuring a leaping Tiger in the artist signature 3D style (covered here). Another of his new murals located on the busy Hanbury Street, just off Brick Lane sees DALeast painting two large wild cats in battle, against a super vibrant red/orange background that makes this piece really pop!

Faith47 New London Mural

Faith47 is currently in the UK and completed work on this beautiful new piece titled 'A sacrifice on the altar of science' on two of the large panels in East London's Old Truman Brewery. The South African painter has now begun working on another large scale mural and spent a few hours yesterday prepping the wall and sketched up the new piece, before our crazy British weather got the better of her. Faith47 plans to continue working on the new mural today so check back with us for coverage of this.

Israeli artist DEDE hits the streets of London

While we were hanging out watching DALeast working on his Hanbury Street mural just off Brick Lane on Friday evening, we got chatting to Israeli artist DEDE. The artist is visiting London and has been in town a week already, hitting up the city streets with a number of paste-ups and stickers. When we spoke to Dede he mentioned he was on the look out for wall on which to paint a larger piece he wanted to paint while here.

Well it looks like Dede found himself a spot to paint, we ran into the artist again yesterday in East London as he was packing up his paint having just completed work on this new mural pictured.

Remi/Rough & System — Girl at a window ‘After Rembrandt’ South London Mural

Hookedblog have already featured Australian artist Reka's interpretation of an old artwork titled "The rape of Europa"(covered here) from the Dulwich picture gallery, the first of several murals planned in the area for the Baroque The Streets festival. The second mural to go up in Dulwich features the work of graffiti artists Remi Rough and System in which the duo have painted their modern reinterpretation of Rembrandt's 'Girl at a Window' and Poussin’s ‘Triumph of David’. We caught up with the two artists as they were putting the finished touches to their mural.

The two new murals are part of the Dulwich festival's street art programme which has been curated and organised by Ingrid Beazley from Dulwich Picture Gallery and Richard Howard-Griffin of Street Art London. In the coming weeks we can expect to see additional new mural works from Conor Harrington (Ireland), ROA (Belgium), Dscreet (Australia), Thierry Noir (France), Mad C (Germany), RUN (Italy), Shok-1 (UK), Nunca (Brazil), Phlegm (UK), Agent Provocateur (UK), and The Rolling People (UK and Spain). Invader Invades London again! — Part 02

The London Invasion continues.....Hookedblog have already featured some of the new mosaic works from French street artist Invader's latest city invasion, which has been taking place on the streets over the last few days (covered here). Invader Invades London again!

Hookedblog spotted some fresh looking Invader vinyl stickers yesterday evening and suspected that the French street artist might be in London. This was confirmed this morning when we spotted two new mosaic street pieces from Invader, one a rectangular shaped Pac-Man Ghost character with a David Bowie 'Ziggy' look to the piece and the second, an epic super-sized piece featuring everyone's favourite Star Wars characters battling it out on the side of the building. We will be keeping our eyes peeled for additional pieces, check back with us soon.

Ben Eine 2013: Extortionists x Protagonists Video

Back in February of this year street artist Ben Eine returned to Ebor Street in East London to repaint the walls of London Newcastle Space and Mother London (covered here). The artist had previously painted these two iconic walls back in 2010 with the two messages Anti Anti Anti and Pro Pro Pro (covered here) on the opposite wall. While painting the two walls Ben was in the process of relocating his studio to San Francisco from the UK and having to use his spray paint stocks in his studio he took the opportunity to paint two last walls before the move. Mother London have just finished editing the short film they shot while Ben was painting the walls. Check the clip below:

REKA's Baroque The Streets, South London Mural

Hookedblog headed South of the river over the Bank Holiday to see if we could find any of the new murals that have been going up around Dulwich as part of the Dulwich Festival, which will see some big names in street art creating an outdoor gallery of public murals inspired by works held by Dulwich Picture Gallery, England’s oldest public gallery.

The street art programme at the fesival titled Baroque The Streets, has been curated and organised by Ingrid Beazley from Dulwich Picture Gallery and Richard Howard-Griffin of Street Art London and in the coming weeks we can expect to see additional new mural works from RWKA (Australia), Conor Harrington (Ireland), ROA (Belgium), Dscreet (Australia), Thierry Noir (France), Mad C (Germany), RUN (Italy), Shok-1 (UK), Nunca (Brazil), Phlegm (UK), Agent Provocateur (UK), Remi Rough and System (UK)(covered here) and The Rolling People (UK and Spain).

The REKA mural is already complete and we managed to catch the new work yesterday on the side of the Paxton Pub in West Dulwich. The mural pictured here is REKA's interpretation of an old artwork titled "The rape of Europa" from the Dulwich picture gallery.

Sweet Toof & Insect back on the streets of London

Hookedblog have previously featured a two part blog post covering the recent pasteup works around Shoreditch and Brick Lane from East London street artists Sweet Toof and Paul Insect (covered here and here). Following the duo's painting adventures in Mexico, which saw some impressive collaborative murals, it would appear the two artists are now back in the UK and have taken to the streets of Shoreditch continuing the series where they previous left off with a fresh new wave of hand painted works. ROA New Mural in East London

Shok-1 X-Rainbow (5th incarnation)

The other weekend saw graffiti artist Shok-1 return to this spot just off Brick Lane in East London. Having previous painted this spot with his impressive X-Ray bones series, the latest piece in the X-Rainbow series is the 5th incarnation on this wall. We unfortunately missed the 4th incarnation of the series which was painted the same weekend in the same spot, as it was taken out by another artist within hours of it being finished. Shok-1 returned soon after and painted the piece pictured.

Take To The Street : Street Art & Graffiti Photography Exhibition

Curator and friend of Hookedblog, Esther F. Castelo recently contacted us to about taking part in a group show she was putting together called Take To The Street, a street art and graffiti photographic exhibition.

We were asked to submit a selection of images which will go on show on Thursday 2nd May along with some of the other leading London street art & graffiti photographers including Nolionsinengland, Ian Cox, Unusualimage, Mark Rigney (Hookedblog), Howaboutno, Joeppo, Delete, Myriam JC Preston, Alex Ellison, Doug Sherman and Cheffo31. We loved the idea of all these photographer taking a selection of their images offline and into a gallery space.

A series of workshops and talks are also planned for at the space which we have listed below. We are looking forward to the street art / graffiti photo pub crawl!!

Maser & Conor Harringinton New London Mural

We last saw Irish street artist Maser in Dublin earlier this month when he collaborated on a large scale mural in the city centre with Ted prize winner JR (covered here).Following on from a recent installation and wallproject in Cincinnati,the artist has stopped over in London for another collaboration mural this time with fellow Irish artist Conor Harrington. The two artists hit these gates yesterday on Buxton Street, London combining both their individual style to create this striking new piece.

Kid Acne's Urban Warriors Return to London

Look what we found over the weekend, a number of new Stabby Women have appeared on the East London streets. The characters are the work of Sheffield based artist Kid Acne and we at Hookedblog love seeing the return of these urban Warriors to our streets. We last saw the artist in London earlier this year when he completed work on the large wall at Village Underground with a huge typographic piece as part of Streetart London's Wall Project. Street Art in Dublin, Ireland

During Hookedblog's recent visit to Dublin, Ireland we hit the streets of the city on the hunt for some of the new stencil works NY collective Faile had installed while in town (covered here). Faile show Dublin some love

We were honoured to have been invited to Dublin earlier this month to lead a discussion panel at OFFSET2013 with Patrick Miller and Patrick McNeil from NY street art collective FAILE along with Ji Lee, a Communication Designer at Facebook and former designer and creative director at the Google Creative Lab.

It was great to finally meet Ji Lee and hear him talk about some of the street projects he worked on before joining Facebook. Many of you will no doubt seen or heard of some of his street projects but might not have realised that they were his projects. The Bubble Project is the one that most of you will have heard of, and saw Ji Lee print thousands of blank speech bubble stickers which were then placed over billboards and various other street level advertising. These then allowed anyone with a pen to instantly respond to the advertising. Ji Lee documented the cities responses and shared what he captured via The Bubble Project website. He also briefly spoke about one of our favorite projects 'the Abstractor' which transformed the NY video billboards into a pieces of public art.

We also enjoyed our chat with Faile and their presentation on the main Offset stage. It was interesting to hear them talk about their latest work "Les Ballets De Faile", a two part epic project with the New York City Ballet at the Lincoln Center. During their presentation on the main stage they talked us through some of the inspirations behind their works and showed how they build up some of their imagery giving us a better understanding of the volume of work that goes into each of finished works. It was also fascinating to see some of the 'never before seen images' / ideas that never made the cut from their archives.

With their official Offset work complete, we hit the pub where the two Patricks got down to the more serious business of sampling some Irish Guinness. Later this was followed by some unofficial work on the streets of Dublin. As this was their first visit to Dublin, Faile hit the streets hard with a series of classic Faile stencil imagery going up across the city along with some super sized drippy Faile tags. Unfortunately we didn't get the opportunity to capture all of the stencil works as we ran outta time and had to catch a flight back to London, but we have included some of what we did find here.

Gaia hits the streets of London

American street artist Gaia has been in London the last few weeks as he prepared for his 'Show of Hands' solo exhibition currently on show at The Ravenscroft Public House. The show saw Gaia present a series of pencil drawing from his recent travels and opened last Thursday to a packed out venue.

With the show now open and having finished work on his beautiful 'Marlo' Lino edition (covered here) as well as completing the large mural he has been working on the side of the Ravenscroft (covered here), Gaia hit the streets over the weekend with a number of large paste-ups pictured here before departing London. The "Show Of Hands' exhibition runs until the 18th April and is definitely worth a visit.

Conor Harrington New London Mural

It's always a delight to see work from East London based Irish artist Conor Harrington on the streets. Having recently returned from Mallorca, Spain where the artist was taking part in the Wide Walls Paint Jam, Harrington took to the streets of East London yesterday morning to paint this stunning new mural.
