With the popularity of the hit movie The Secret, I wanted to touch on what I feel is the real secret. While I really like the movie, I feel this article will explain why many people aren't getting the results they desire so much...or getting results in some areas and not others.

 

The main premise of The Secret is the Law of Attraction which basically says that you attract whatever you hold in mind and in order to attract more of what you want, you need to hold more of that in mind.

For example, if you are always focusing on your money problems or if you dread opening your mailbox because there is going to be a stack of bill, you are holding that in mind and creating more of the same. This is right on point. So in order to correct that, the advice is to basically control your conscious thoughts and control them so that they are focusing on what you want in life. Sounds good so far.

Here is the problem: Your conscious mind represents on 2-3% of your total thoughts at any given moment. The other 97-98% of your thoughts are occurring below your awareness in your subconscious mind. So this is where many people are struggling with the Law Of Attraction. The Law Of Attraction is definitely accurate...but it applies to the other 98% of your thoughts below your awareness.

So if you have thoughts below your awareness that are in conflict with what you want in life, no amount of visualizing or daily affirmations will work. As long as your conscious mind and subconscious mind are in conflict, the thoughts in your subconscious mind will always prevail.

If there is no conflict, then applying The Secret will work very well. I felt they explained the Law Of Attraction fairly well but only for our conscious minds. If you have ever seen a picture of an iceberg under water with the tip exposed, that is a great metaphor of what is really going on.

So the real secret, then, is to release all of the subconscious garbage that gets in the way of what you want and what you want to be in life. There are several different modalities that can assist you in doing this and I highly recommend learning one that you can learn to do on your own without depending on someone else

So how does this work in the real world? Lets say that you are trying to increase your wealth. A noble endeavor for sure. Lets say at 5 yrs old, you were told money is bad and that you heard your parents or guardians say some not very nice things about that wealthy family down the street. Well, that becomes a subconscious belief and will color your relationship with money going forward and will place a very real ceiling on how much money you make.

In this situation, any time you start to make more money that your subconscious mind believes is right for you, you will end up sabotaging yourself. Sound familiar? It used to drive me nuts!

Fortunately, with several of the solutions out there, you don't have to remember back to when you were 5 yrs old and what your parents said to you or anything like that. You simply just have to know there is a problem.

So the real secret is letting go of the garbage in your subconscious mind. When you do, you will often find that rather than having to constantly focus on what you want in life, you will find that by releasing all of this negative energy, you will be naturally drawing the things you want into life much more easily...you will be in flow and that is a very cool place to be.

Before I came across the Hooponopono.Org, I had a lot of anxiety in my life. I was always fighting with these feelings but the resistance intensified the problem. I just wanted to feel relief but in hindsight I was just making the problem worse. I needed to find some answers.

 

I discovered that the key to spiritual development is twofold:

1) Let go of old patterns of resistance and our attachment to the problem. Many of us are unwilling to let go and so we remain stuck.

We need to do more than just let go.....

2) We ALSO need to raise our vibration so that it clears and dissolves the problem.

It looks so simple but this was a tall order for me. It meant totally transforming the way I thought and behaved. I tried to change my thinking and beliefs with CBT, seminars and life coaching but that didn't work. It felt like I was too entrenched in the problem.

So how could I simply let go of the problem?? I had to develop the willingness to start clearing myself and then raising my vibration. I also had to become aware of the true cause of the problem. In Hooponopono, problems are just subconscious memories replaying in the mind. We don't need to analyse where it came from but just acknowledge that there's something within us that is causing the problem..

We then begin a powerful cleaning process in which we appeal to Divinity to clear these problem memories. We seek love and forgiveness and thank the Divinity within for providing a solution which is already on it's way. The key is to really feel a powerful connection with The One and to feel problems being removed from you!

I also find that it is helpful to totally switch my focus to feeling love, abundance or joy and feeling as if the solution is already here! I imagine this as I am saying the 4 mantras of the Hooponopono.Org and start to feel the inner smile radiate within me.

I realise I have a choice: I can either keep scratching away at the wound, or I can let go of the problem, clear myself and raise my vibration. The only reason why we feel stuck is because we are unwilling to let go of the problem and choose instead to focus on it.

Hooponopono has allowed me to start choosing to follow the path of least resistance. It has increased my awareness of the true cause of all problems which are within me, there is no "out there" This means I take responsibility for everything. When Dr Hew Len, the father of modern Hooponopono did this he healed an entire ward of mentally ill criminals.

Hooponopono.Org has given me a magic formula for clearing myself of problems leaving me feeling clear and ready to take inspired action. The ability to do this at any time of the day is a priceless gift from spirit.

That "The Secret" professes to being the law of attraction not only is not a secret, the law of attraction has been known by many names, by countless numbers for countless centuries. So why is the new and brilliantly marketed incarnation attracting so many to it today? The answer is that people are always looking for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow-The American Dream.

 

Australian author Rhonda Byrne, and her talented chorus of motivational speakers have tapped into this dream by telling us the universe doesn't distinguish between negative and positive. The universe knows precisely what to do at precisely the right time. Whatever is in our life is there because we have invited it. When a person complains about something he doesn't like, he is sending negativity out and he gets more of what he doesn't want. On the other hand, when he thinks and acts in a positive manner, he will get what he wants, absolutely. Despite the miracles featured on Oprah, what they don't tell us is that to think this way consistently is a learned process over time.

The often-quoted Dr. Wayne Dyer, "Our intention creates our reality," fits in nicely. But let's not forget that Dyer did not kick back, think positive thoughts, and wait for the universe to shower him with goodies. He worked hard and long for his rewards. I fear "The Secret" might be sending the wrong message, particularly to the self-absorbed YouTube generation that features itself, incessantly talks about itself, has absolutely no interest outside itself, and is convinced it is entitled to everything it has and more, and that work has nothing to do with getting whatever it wants. This mode of thinking is already causing problems in my own family and on campuses around the nation.

Byrne tells us we need only to imbibe three things in our lives: Ask, Believe, and Receive. In the documentary, a boy fantasizes over a bicycle and Shazam! It appears at his door. A girl obsesses over a necklace; lo and behold, it appears around her neck. Just ask for that Mercedes and really believe you will get it. Somehow the universe will make it happen. Well I believe in positive thinking, and I don't hang around with negative people. But I don't know of anyone who ever got anything of value in an honest way unless they inherited it, won it in a poker game or worked for it. The theme of "The Secret" focuses on getting material objects. Well, maybe that's what the American Dream is about.

But here's what I believe. Our thoughts are stronger than elephants. Our thoughts are the most powerful entities in the universe. So yes, when we tap into those positive, compassionate and loving thoughts that already reside within us, we are bound to attract them on the outside. When you walk into a crowded room, why are you attracted to a particular person? It's no secret.

What is the Ho'oponopono (hooponopono) Practice?

An alternative practice is to pray, "Divinity, please remove all programs from me or my ancestors back to the beginning of time that are causing __________________. Thank you. I love you. Please forgive me."

What Does This Have to Do with Your Vibrations?

When describing Ho'oponopono (hooponopono), Dr. Hew Len sometimes uses the phrase, "Clear, clear, clear and go back to port." When we are at the port, after incessant cleaning, we are at zero which is where we were when we were born. At zero, we have no limits from old memories replaying in our Subconscious. We are able to receive inspiration directly from Higher Mind.

The part of one's self that is damaged by life's experience is healed by Ho'oponopono (hooponopono). As undamaged beings, we vibrate at a high intensity. During the process of healing, our vibrations increase steadily. This improves our life little by little.

I have used this around crying children who I knew, and it worked. I have used this around crying children who were strangers in a supermarket, and it worked. I have used it when around distressed adults, and it worked. I have used it when I have heard stories of distressed adults I don't even know and it's been reported back that it helped.

In the terminology of Eckhart Tolle, Ho'oponopono (hooponopono) heals the pain body of the practitioner. Once this has been done, then any active pain body nearby is soothed and comforted by the loving, non-judgmental, attention of a healthy human.

Those who have high vibrations have a healing affect on those around them. This was noted by David Hawkins in Power vs Force. He determined that those people who live in the frequency or vibrational resonance of "willingness" or "acceptance" counterbalance 90,000 individuals living in grief or fear.
