Thanks for the link Kristee. It inspired me and I wandered over to my school district (ok, my school district if I let my kids go there), Carmel-Clay Schools. Fortunately their budget numbers are relatively easy to find:

http://www1.ccs.k12.in.us/district/business-affairs/budget

It reports that the 2010 budget (including all funds) is about $138.7 million.

The bigger challenge was finding the number of students. I found one estimate of 14,517 students and another at 14,680 students.

http://www.publicschoolreview.com/agency_schools/leaid/1801200/
http://www.education.com/schoolfinder/us/indiana/district/carmel-clay-schools-school-district/

The math works out to somewhere between $9,449 and $9,555 per student. Not as bad as some districts.

As a point of comparison:
Heritage Christian School - $9,130 tuition/yr (High School)
Indianapolis Christian School - $4,464/yr
Cardinal Ritter - $6,600 to $9,375 / yr
International School of Indiana - $14,250 (High School)
The Independence Academy (Autism School) - $11,000

I guess what I mean to say in the above comment: the entirety of this crappy bill may fall on the way that Rep. Brad Ellsworth votes. This is not a situation where only people in his district should contact him--he wants to run to represent the state.

I have contacted him. I think everyone reading this should do so as well.

The Hill has a Whip count on Health Care bill. A couple of updates in the last day or so regarding Indiana representatives:

1. Baron Hill has decided that he doesn't care if he returns to Washington and has told the LA Times that he is "leaning yes" on the Health Care bill noting the numbers from the CBO.

2. Brad Ellsworth missed the vote on the 18th regarding the GOP resolution condemning the "deem and pass" strategy. The Hill sees this as troubling for Democrats. I think that his Senate aspirations make this a very difficult decision for him.

I watched the first part last night and not the second part. I thought Bret did a nice job. He was a bit pushier than I would have been, though he did so for good reason. In short, while the President doesn't like the idea of the filibuster, he sure knows how to engage it. Bret had to keep prodding him to get back onto the question.

Bret also showed that he knows more about the legislation than the President. The President kept talking about "his bill", which, as best as I can tell, is not what will be voted on. Very misleading.

Quite frankly, this is the first set of legitimate questioning the President has received since he entered office. It would have been nice, however to have Brit Hume do this interview.
