All Clubs Day

Has Come and Gone

August 24th, 2010 was All Clubs Day on our beautiful UH Maui campus. Hence the desks, music, and crowd of good-natured students gathered on the great lawn. The event was sponsored by the Associated Students of UH Maui College, and took place between 11:00 am and 1:30 pm.

The Bottom Line: There were grinds, there was a waterslide, and there were clubs far and wide! Which one did you join??

Whoo! The New School Semester Is Starting!

...Feeling Lost Already?

Well don't FREAK OUT!

As usual, UHMC has got your back.

So you're just out of high school, about to start your long journey down the path to higher education; or maybe you've been out of school for a while (life does have a way of sneaking up and grabbing us by the surf shorts when we least expect it), and you're finally getting back in to it. Either way, you're probably totally excited, but at the same time there's a good chance that a part of you is feeling like the fresh meat, about to be served up on a table of uncertainty in the butchery of unfamiliarity that is your new and school campus. Does that sound like you? Well, maybe not- but in so many words: you're nervous. Don't feel bad; it's only natural. However, the fine folks at UHMC are determined to shield you from the painful blade of that cleaver of confusion and help you hit the campus grounds running.

Here's How:

During the first two days of the coming semester (that's Monday, August 23rd and Tuesday, August 24th; come on slackers, mark your calendars) there will be special 'Ask Me' tables set up in both the Ka'aike and Ka Lama buildings. These tables will be manned by UHMC staff and experienced students alike whose sole purpose will be putting you in the know and getting you where you need to go... pronto! The fact that it rhymes doesn't detract from the validity of the statement; these desks are for YOU- the fresh new student ready to learn but not yet sure where to go or who to learn it from. The 'Ask Me' tables will be available from 8:45 to 5:45 (possibly even later).

The Bottom Line: Dude, the 'Ask Me' tables are there to help. Don't be shy; keep it real, get where you need to be.

New Student Orientation: Frosh Camp

Frosh Camp is a two-day interactive program that will give new students a head start on their first semester here at UH-Maui College. It will be held on Tuesday, August 10, 2010 and Wednesday, August 11, 2010 from 8 am to 3:30 pm. Here is the Schedule for both days:

To all students, the first day of class is on August 23 so do not be late. August 24 is all clubs day which allows clubs to greet new students and to get them to join their various clubs. It will go from 11 am to 1:30 pm on the Great Lawn. The clubs will be giving out information on their programs during that time.

Come blow off some steam at this fun filled MCC event! The Yard style gettyUp will be on the Great Lawn in the middle of MCC campus and will be featuring DJ Skinny Guy. The Peace Club is participating in Earth Week by showing a program on “The Power of Community: How Cuba Survived Peak Oil,"

Followed by a panel discussion with local speakers on sustainable agriculture. The guest panelists are :

*Dr. Hector Valenzuela, Vegetable Crops Extension Specialist, UH College of Tropical Agriculture;

*Vincent Mina, Maui organic grower and founder of Maui Aloha ‘Aina, and

*Gerry Ross, a Kula farmer and proponent of Community Support of Agriculture.
The film will start at 7pm in MCC Ka Lama 103.

If you are a student at MCC then this is a chance you dont want to miss. This is the first ASMCC sponsored dance in years, and it will be featuring DJ Skinny Guy from the 5 o'clock mix on 105.5 F.M. Thursday April 2, Hot Wing Eating Contest!! Paina

This event is honoring the completion of MCC's Pilina building and the renovation and reopening of the Library. The event will feature food, drinks and lots of love. The blessing starts at 10:30 a.m @ the Library and lunch is from 11:30-12:30.

How To Thrive In A Time Of Change

This event features two accomplished authors who will be giving a seminar on How To Thrive In A Time Of Change. Alan Cohen is the first speaker and author of "Chicken Soup for the Soul." The other presenter is Neale Donald Walsch who wrote the acclaimed series "Conversations with God." February 28, 10-5 p.m. @ Student Lounge Pilina Building.

Honor Society Meeting 1/26

Maui Community College's Honor Society, Psi Sigma, will be meeting this coming Monday at 11 AM in the Pa'ina cafeteria. They will be discussing officer positions and the upcoming regional conference that they're hosting (March 7th).

MCC Posts Record Enrollment

Maui Community College students can look forward to a more populated campus this semester. According to MCC Dean of Students Alvin Tagomori, "As of 7:00 am this morning, our enrollment for Spring 2009 stood at 3305 as compared with 2852 or +453 in Spring 2008 at the same time last year."

Tagomori continues by saying that Spring 2009 registration is currently closed, but students may continue to register classes by getting the class instructor's signtaure on the Add/Drop (goldenrod) form. Add/Drop forms are available at the MCC front desk.
