Growing old is perhaps the hardest task we have to face in this life. As the saying goes, "Getting old is not for sissies."

Mainly, growing old is about losses. We devote most of our early life to acquiring things, but they are merely things we will lose as we age. We lose our strength, our looks, our friends, our job. We may lose our wealth, our home, our health, our spouse, our independence, and perhaps the greatest loss of all, our sense of dignity and self-worth.

But there is one thing that you and I will never lose—the love of God. "Even to your old age, I am He," God said to the prophet, "and even to gray hairs I will carry you! I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you" (Isaiah 46:4).

"The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree," wrote the songwriter (Psalm 92:12). "Those who are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bear fruit in old age" (vv.13-14). — David H. Roper

You will enjoy the new insights that Rick Warren has, with his wife now having cancer and him having 'wealth' from the book sales. 'Purpose Driven Life ' author and pastor of Saddleback Church in California.

In the interview by Paul Bradshaw with Rick Warren, Rick said:
"People ask me, What is the purpose of life?"
And I respond: "In a nutshell, life is preparation for eternity. We were not made to last forever, and God wants us to be with Him in Heaven.
One day my heart is going to stop, and that will be the end of my body - but not the end of me.
I may live 60 to 100 years on earth, but I am going to spend trillions of years in eternity. This is the warm-up act - the dress rehearsal. God wants us to practice on earth what we will do forever in eternity.
We were made by God and for God, and until you figure that out, life isn't going to make sense.
Life is a series of problems: Either you are in one now, you're j! ust coming out of one, or you're getting ready to go into another one.
The reason for this is that God is more interested in your character than your comfort;God is more interested in making your life holy than He is in making your life happy.
We can be reasonably happy here on earth, but that's not the goal of life. The goal is to grow in character, in Christ likeness.
This past year has been the greatest year of my life but also the toughest, with my wife, Kay, getting cancer.
I used to think that life was hills and valleys - you go through a dark time, then you go to the mountaintop, back and forth. I don't believe that anymore.
Rather than life being hills and valleys, I believe that it's kind of like two rails on a railroad track, and at all times you have something good and something bad in your life.
No matter how good things are in your life, there is always something bad that needs to be worked on.
And no matter how bad things are in your life, there is always something good you can thank God for.
You can focus on your purposes, or you can focus on your problems:
If you focus on your problems, you're going into self-centeredness, which i! s my problem, my issues, my pain. But one of the easiest ways to get rid of pain is to get your focus off yourself and onto God and others.
We discovered quickly that in spite of the prayers of hundreds of thousands of people, God was not going to heal Kay or make it easy for her - it has been very difficult for her, and yet God has strengthened her character, given her a ministry of helping other people, given her a testimony, drawn her closer to Him and to people.
You have to learn to deal with both the good and the bad of life.
Actually, sometimes learning to deal with the good is harder. For instance, this past year, all of a sudden, when the book sold 15 million copies, it made me instantly very wealthy.
It also brought a lot of notoriety that I had never had to deal with before. I don't think God gives you money or notoriety for your own ego or for you to live a life of ease.
So I began to ask God what He wanted me to do with this money, notoriety and influence. He gave me two different passages that helped me decide what to do, II Corinthians 9 and Psalm 72.
First, in spite of all the money coming in, we would not change our lifestyle one bit. We made no major purchases.
Second, about midway through last year, I stopped taking a salary from the church.
Third, we set up foundations to fund an initiative we call The Peace Plan to plant churches, equip leaders, assist the poor, care for the sick, and educate the next generation.
Fourth, I added up all that the church had paid me in the 24 years since I started the church, and I gave it all back. It was liberating to be able to serve God for free.
We need to ask ourselves: Am I going to live for possessions? Popularity?
Am I going to be driven by pressures? Guilt? Bitterness? Materialism? Or am I going to be driven by God's purposes (for my life)?
When I get up in the morning, I sit on the side of my bed and say, God, if I don't get anything else done today, I want to know You more and love You better. God didn't put me on earth just to fulfill a to-do list. He's more interested in what I am than what I do.
That's why we're called human beings, not human doings.
Happy moments, PRAISE GOD.
Difficult moments, SEEK GOD.
Quiet moments, WORSHIP GOD.
Painful moments, TRUST GOD.
Every moment, THANK GOD.

How to touch lives?

In our lifetime we might have lots of people that we met and known. Some we might just know from a birthday party or over a dinner at friend's house. Each of us have also a group of good friends and buddies that we used to hang out with.

According to a research a person will averagely come across 3o thousand people in their lifetime. Its a huge numbers but how many of this people we really touch them or share the gospel with.

Imagine if we could just touch 1% would be 300 lives ... wow! that's a big different in the kingdom of God.

So the question is how to touch these lives?
Maybe here are some ideas we can take note

Pray
Pray specifically and daily for the people that God has placed in our hearts today. It is best to set aside a specific time to do so even it’s just for 5 to 10 minutes. Pray that God would show us the openings and the needs in their lives.

Care
Look for opportunity to express care in a practical way, especially where we are able to touch and meet their needs. It can be as simple as writing a card of encouragement, inviting them for a meal or offering a listening ear.

Share
As we discover the needs and concerns in the person’s lives we can share similar experiences that we have and how Jesus has helped us in those situation. We can even share relevant scripture passages which can comfort or encourage the person. What we want to convey is that there is a God who loves us and care for us and it’s interested getting involve in our lives.

Invite
We look for suitable opportunities to invite our friends for various activities that might help them in the area of their needs. Care group is a good place to start.

Hope this can help us be more effective servant in our soul ministry! Amen!

why EVANGELISM is important

How true! Evangelism is not my idea or an idea made up by a pastor for church expansion. It is straight from the heart and mouth of our heavenly Father.

2 Satan hates it! Acts 4:12, Rom 6:23

Evangelism is a vehicle that God has given us to rescue people from going to hell. Satan wants everyone to go to Hell but God wants everyone to be with Him in Heaven.

3 Jesus brings true peace and fulfilment. Ephesians 2:17, John 14:27

Nothing in this world can be more satisfying and fulfilling than knowing and experiencing God’s love through Jesus Christ.

4 The Artwork is incomplete. Acts 1:1, 2 Corinthians 5:17-20, Romans 10:14

We are chosen by God to bring a slice of heaven onto earth. Since the fall of humanity, God has been at work bringing reconciliation between Himself and humankind. We are God’s chosen instruments to complete this task.

5 Expression of love and gratitude towards God. 2 Corinthians 5:9, James 2:14-18

Love for God has to be expressed through obedience and action. Love and action must go hand in hand. We witness because we love God.

6 Faith-growing experience. Philemon 6

Winning souls can be the most exhilarating thing to do for God. Why? The Holy Spirit is with us. We are not alone. Jesus said signs and miracles will follow those who preach the Good News

In touch with Jesus

We want our life to get in touch with Jesus everyday. Every time God’s people gather together on Sunday to worship and seek after Him, there will be something great happening.

So what is the great thing? Bible says that if two or more people gather together in His name He will be with us. Indeed God’s presence is with us today. In His presence we will see healing, deliverance, revival, breakthrough and also victory. So bro and sis, are you ready to receive all these great things from Jesus?

Just ask from Jesus, seek Him and He surely will show you great things this morning. I pray that you will receive His great ‘stuffs’ today throughout the service. May this morning be another day of new experience in our Lord Jesus! Amen!

Happy New Year 2009! It’s the first Sunday of the year again. Most people get excited about new year because it’s time of celebration and also starting a new calendar.

Moving from 2008 to another new year, it is good to reflect back on what our Lord has done for us throughout the year. It is time for thanksgiving and offering all our good and bad to God.

1 Thessalonians 5:18
give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus

I believe this year will be an exciting year for us as we continue to reap the harvest for Jesus. Let us use our time wisely and make the best opportunity to advance the kingdom of God.

Ephesians 5:15-20
Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is. Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit. Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ

Let us look forward to a new beginning in our spiritual journey in Christ. Let us have a new encounter, a new experience and also a new miracle in our life. Amen!

Goodbye 2008

We are almost at the end of this year, and I think it is a good time for us to reflect on all that has happened plus what we have learnt along the way. But more than that I like us to focus and prepare ourselves to live out God's will and plan for the coming year. Here are some suggestions for all of us to consider.

1. Commit ourselves to continual self development and improvement. In other words, never be satisfied at where you are as far as our character and life in God. We should always have an improvement mentality which can then bring God's blessing into our families' lives, into our work, our studies, our ministries and especially in our personal walk with Jesus.

2. Realize that we must live out our lives from a strong spiritual centre. In other words, everything we do should be an outworking and expression of God's love. When we are passionate for God, we will express that passion in all that we do. Many times God's work in our church suffers not for lack of giftedness, but lack of passion.

3. Pray for what we want to see happening in our church. Sometimes people pray and tell God what they don't want. I would rather that we pray for what we want to see happen! 2009 is a big year for us as we prepare move into our new church building.

We have a passion and a BIG goal to reach and have many people attending our church service. It is not an impossible goal. And I am sure that God would be pleased to see new lives enter His Kingdom. To see this happen, it would take a lot more passion, love for God, love for the lost and intense and continual commitment to excellence in all that we do, and to be impactful and influential people wherever we are (salt & light).

I am very excited about what God is going to do in our lives in 2009. But it takes more than excitement, it takes all of us willingly giving ourselves to glorify God as a church by participating actively to grow God's Kingdom.

Don't come empty-handed

We usually don’t go to a birthday or wedding party without bringing along a gift. Since we were invited to share in the joy of the occasion, it is our privilege to shower with gifts to those whom honor is deserved.

The Feast of Tabernacles was party-time for the Israelites to celebrate God’s generosity and faithfulness! Gathering as a nation, they brought freewill offerings to God; reflecting on how much God had blessed them in the year that had passed. God commanded them never to come before Him empty-handed.

The MNC is our party-time. Hooray! We have so much to catch up on, and to share with one another. We look forward to the times of teaching and celebrations of praise. One important element of the MNC is taking time to give thanks to the Lord. Let’s not come empty-handed.

This is not limited to just bringing a financial offering. Some of us may have acquired a new gift or talent which can be offered to edify the church. Some of us may have seen growth in our business or ministry – we can bring the “first fruits” before the Lord. Some may want to fast and pray for the remaining days prior to the MNC; to make intercession as an offering to the Lord. A few of us may take this opportunity to say to the Lord, “Here I am, use/send me!”

There are many innovative ways we can bring our freewill offerings to the Lord. Let’s take stock of the blessings we have received from the Lord, and joyfully bring a freewill offering that would honor Him proportionately.

(Deu 16:16-17 NIV) Three times a year all your men must appear before the LORD your God at the place he will choose: at the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the Feast of Weeks and the Feast of Tabernacles. No man should appear before the LORD empty-handed: {17} Each of you must bring a gift in proportion to the way the LORD your God has blessed you.

We have a great camp at Kuharah Court condominium during the Hari Raya holidays

Our theme is a growing church .... indeed the church of Christ will continue to grow as all living things must grow. We truly believe that our church shall grow just like a mustard seed. It starts small but it shall not remain small. God has mandated that the church should grow. There is enough evidence in Scripture that God is not pleased with a stagnating church.

Love Enough To Confront

If a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness. —Galatians 6:1

We hear a lot of talk these days about following the example of Jesus by “accepting” and “affirming” people just as they are. The implication is that we must never confront them when they do something wrong.

Yes, Jesus loved and accepted people, but He did not shrink from confronting them. We see this in Luke 7.

Jesus had accepted a dinner invitation from Simon, a self-righteous Pharisee. While at his house, the Lord permitted a woman with a bad reputation to wash His feet with expensive perfumed oil. Jesus knew Simon’s judgmental thoughts as the weeping woman lavished Him with love (vv.36-39). So He confronted the Pharisee about his hypocrisy.

It’s likely that Simon had invited Jesus to his home to try to trap Him. Jesus reminded him of his failure to extend the courtesies normally bestowed on a guest (vv.44-46). Then He acknowledged the evil of the woman’s past and the genuineness of her repentance. The Lord said, “Her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much” (v.47).

Jesus was respectful to self-righteous religionists, dishonest tax collectors, and prostitutes alike. Yet He never glossed over their sins. He loved people enough to confront them. And so should we. — Herbert Vander Lugt

T.A.S.T.E

We are now in the last 3 months of the year. As we preparing ourselves to reap the harvest let us continue to improve in few areas (T.A.S.T.E) as shared by Ps Denis.

Target – I believe that to be effective in our lives We shud set periodic targets for improvement in our lives, be it quantitative targets or qualitative targets. This applies to our personal professional as well as spiritual growth. See the Lord for some targets that you should aim personally this quarter.

Assimilation – when I think of the Lord Jesus, He was able to assimilate or draw in disciples because he first invested time relating with the crowd in very natural context – that like having meals together, conversing with people and ministering to their felt needs. We should capitalized on every activities as opportunities to draw our visitors and friends closer to us so that they may taste and see that the Lord is good.

Shepherding – the one compelling command of the Lord for us is that if we love Jesus we will take care of His sheep (people). It is these stated in Matthew 28:18-20 as making disciples. Either way each one of us should take on greater spiritual responsibilities by learning to take care of others who are younger in their faith. Both shepherd and sheep ought to taste and see the goodness of God in their discipleship relationship.

Training - as we consider training it applies to that of helping existing leaders to break through their own leadership ceiling as well as to encourage and raise up new leaders within every care group. To put in bluntly great nation are lead by great leaders while even good nations will deteriorate with bad leadership. Leaders are made not born. We should exert Godly leadership in every sphere of our lives for the glory of Christ.

Encounters with God – Ps Jim Cymbala wrote about the need to have fresh fire and fresh wind. What it means is basically that for us to have a vibrant and healthy spiritual life we need fresh encounters with God daily. We need to taste the goodness of God personally and regularly so that our love, devotion and commitment to Him will not grow cold.

We will help if we all commit ourselves to this focus for the quarter – T.A.S.T.E.
Let’s together planting His kingdom in our land!

A JOB . . . or A MINISTRY?

In the Church some people have a job, others have a ministry.

What is the difference?

If you are doing it because no-one else will, it's a job.
If you are doing it to serve the Lord, it's a ministry.

If you quit because someone criticizes you, it's a job.
If you keep on serving, it's a ministry.

If you do it only if it doesn't interfere with other activities, it's a job.
If you're committed to it, though it means letting go of other things,
It's a ministry.

If you quit because no-one praises or thanks you, it's a job.
If you stay with it (even without recognition), it's a ministry.

If your concern is success, it's a job.
If your concern is faithfulness, it's a ministry.

An average church is filled with people doing jobs.

A great growing church is people doing ministry.

If you have a job, give it up and find a ministry.

God does not want us being stuck with a job, but excited and faithful to Him in ministry.

Is Work Your God?

The ability to work is a wonderful gift, but are we taking it too far? In the past, people left their jobs at the office, but now they come home to e-mail and phone messages.

Dr. Dave Arnott, associate professor of management at Dallas Baptist University, says, "I don't know whether work is taking over family and community, or whether family and community are giving up their place to work. But I know the movement is going on. Everyone's job seems to be who they are." We tend to equate our identity with what we do for a living.

The president of the Families and Work Institute says, "How busy you are has become the red badge of courage. . . . It's become a status symbol," even though people complain about it.

Making a god out of work is not a new problem. In the first commandment, God said, "You shall have no other gods before Me" (Exodus 20:3). That includes our jobs. Through God's gift of work, we can honor Him, care for our families, and help people in need. Work is not to be our main source of fulfillment; that must come from God Himself.

No matter what our occupation, we must keep work in perspective. God and family are more important than dedication to a job. Work is a gift, not a god. — David C. McCasland

我们既然亲自认识了基督，祂也与我们同在，我们又怎样才能确定我们是被圣灵充满呢？以下有四个步骤帮助我们明白：

第一，对圣灵充满的渴慕。主耶稣说过：“饥渴慕义的人有福了……必得饱足(充满)”(太五6)。我们必须渴望让圣灵管辖、掌权。

第二，在你的生活中，不容许有未认的罪存在。我们在约翰壹书第一章9节读到：“我们若认自己的罪，神是信实的，是公义的，必要赦免我们的罪，洗净我们一切的(过去、现在、将来的)不义”。因着信，我们可以为神赦免我们的罪感谢祂(参西二13—15；来十11、12)。

第三，祈求圣灵充满你。这是神必成全的祷告，因为这样的祈求符合祂的旨意。我们可在约翰壹书第五章14、15节找到这样的应许：“我们若照祂的旨意求什么，祂就听我们……既然知道祂听我们一切所求的，就知道我们所求于祂的无不得着。”

现在，我们都已确定，我们的凭信心而行、被圣灵充满都是符合神的旨意。事实上，这都是祂命令我们遵行的。例如以弗所书第五章18节就说：“不要醉酒，酒能使人放荡，乃要被圣灵充满。”

因为我们已奉命要靠内住圣灵的能力而活，我们当然可以确定，只要我们祈求祂，祂就会释放祂的大能，以圣灵充满我们。

第四，要为圣灵的充满感谢神。然后每时每刻都要凭信心而行，为你已被圣灵充满感谢祂。

当我被圣灵充满时，我作了这样的祷告：

我在天上亲爱的父，我需要祢。我承认，我一直受地上的生活所辖制，一直犯罪背叛称；但我感谢祢，因为借着耶稣基督死在十字架上，祢已赦免了我的罪。

我现在祈求基督在我的生命中掌权，坐宝座。求祢以圣灵充满我，因为祢已命令我要被圣灵充满，而且祢的话应许我，只要我凭信心祈求，祢就会以圣灵充满我。我这样祈求是奉耶稣基督的名。

为了表白我的信心，我现在就要感谢祢在我的生命中掌权，并以圣灵充满我。阿们。

作了这样的祷告之后，我明白我已被圣灵充满了，我就凭信心而行，从此之后我变了一个人，这是以前不曾有过的。一旦有罪进入我的生活中，我就认罪，并为基督的内住感谢祂，求祂再次充满我。然后我再继续凭信心而行。

我相信，圣灵的大能就是这样释放在一个人的生命中，并非凭个人的感觉。有时候我觉得自己被圣灵充满到一个地步好像自己要沸腾了；又有时候觉得我人在这儿，圣灵却被放迁到阿根廷去了一样。但我被圣灵充满绝不是以个人的感觉作根据的，而是倚靠神在耶稣基督里所说信实完全的话。
