For both Italy and Canada, it was a historic first appearance in the Hopman Cup final. Neither team wanted to leave without the trophy, and the atmosphere was one of passion, pride, and high-stakes tennis.

The day started with a strong statement from Canada. Bianca Andreescu dominated the singles match against Lucia Bronzetti with a commanding 6-2, 6-3 victory. The Canadian star looked as sharp as in her prime, when she reached the top 5 and won the 2019 US Open. She took an early 3-0 lead, and although Bronzetti tried to respond, Andreescu stayed in full control from start to finish.

Then came a heart-stopping battle between Flavio Cobolli and Félix Auger-Aliassime. After the Canadian claimed the first set 7-6, the Italian crowd feared the worst — but Cobolli had other plans. With grit and determination, he took the second set 7-5 and went on to win a dramatic super tie-break 10-8, sending the packed stadium into a frenzy. The match lasted over two hours and delivered every ounce of drama the fans hoped for.

Everything came down to the mixed doubles. Italy fought hard, but the Canadian duo proved too strong. Andreescu and Auger-Aliassime sealed the victory 6-3, 6-3 writing a new chapter in Canadian tennis history by bringing home their country’s first-ever Hopman Cup title.

The dream is real: Team Italy will play the Hopman Cup final on home soil at the Fiera del Levante in Bari – Puglia, in what promises to be a thrilling and emotional showdown. 

Sunshine and surprises on day 4 of the tournament, as Canada defeated Greece to claim the last spot in the final. Bianca Andreescu opened the tie with a commanding 6-1, 6-2 win over Despina Papamichail. In the most anticipated match of the day, Felix Auger-Aliassime overcame Stefanos Tsitsipas 7-6, 6-3, silencing a crowd that had been loudly supporting the Greek star – a longtime favorite in Puglia since his early tennis days in Salento. 

In the mixed doubles played to one set, Canada sealed the deal with 6-4, and Greece entertained the fans.  

But now, all eyes turn to Sunday’s final: Italy vs. Canada. 

It’s a historic moment. Both Canada and Italy reach the Hopman Cup final for the first time ever. Italy, cheered on by a passionate home crowd, will look to crown a spectacular week with the title. The host nation has defeated both defending champions Croatia and powerhouse France to earn its place in the final. 

Italy’s rising stars, Flavio Cobolli and Lucia Bronzetti, have captured hearts with their energy, chemistry, and grit on court. Cobolli holds a slight edge over Auger-Aliassime in both the rankings (No. 19 vs. No. 28) and head-to-head record – having won both of their matches in 2024, in Acapulco and Montreal. Sunday will also mark the first-ever meeting between Andreescu and Bronzetti, adding more intrigue to the tie. 

With the stands nearly full every day and sold-out sessions for Italy’s matches, the atmosphere has been electric – and the final will be no exception. 

The home team heroes, Flavio Cobolli and Lucia Bronzetti, delivered once again, clinching both singles matches against France and securing Italy a place in Sunday’s final. On the other court, Canada also sealed a dominant win over Spain, taking both singles matches. 

Bianca Andreescu dazzled the crowd with a commanding 6-0, 6-1 victory over Marina Bassols, to the delight of the fans that surrounded her for autographs after the match.  

In the men’s match between Canada and Spain, Félix Auger-Aliassime was pushed to the limit by veteran Roberto Bautista Agut. The Spaniard nearly forced a third set, but Felix held strong to close it out 6-3, 7-6. 

One of the most dramatic matches of the day saw Lucia Bronzetti face off against France’s Chloé Paquet. Bronzetti dominated the first set, but the second went to a tiebreaker filled with tension after a controversial referee call on match point, which ultimately went in Paquet’s favor. Undeterred, Bronzetti came back with determination and clinched the super tiebreak 10-8. 

In the final singles match, rising Italian star Flavio Cobolli went head-to-head with French legend Richard Gasquet in what was arguably the match of the day. Earlier in the week, Cobolli had named Gasquet as one of his childhood idols, making this victory even more meaningful as he delivered another point for the home team and sent Italy to the final with 6-2, 6-4.  

In the much-anticipated mixed doubles, Spain retired after dropping the first set 6–3, while France edged Italy 6–4 in a single-set match. Despite the results, both teams enjoyed the experience. 

French legend Richard Gasquet dropped the first set to Duje Ajdukovic 5–7 but staged an impressive comeback, taking the second 6–2 and dominating the super tiebreak 10–6. This leveled the tie after Donna Vekic had earlier defeated Chloé Paquet 6–3, 6–3 on Court 1. 

The decisive mixed doubles between Croatia and France was unfortunately cancelled due to elbow injury to Croatian star Donna Vekic. France wins the tie 2-1.  

Gasquet and Paquet will now face Cobolli and Bronzetti in a high-stakes match for a place in the final of the world’s most prestigious mixed team tennis competition. 

In the day’s other tie, Marina Bassols gave Spain the lead with a 6–0, 6–4 win over Despina Papamichail. The spotlight then turned to a thrilling battle between Roberto Bautista Agut and Stefanos Tsitsipas, which went down to the wire and thrilled the Italian crowd. In the end, Bautista sealed victory for Greece, 3–6, 7–6, 10-8.  

In the mixed doubles, Greece took control with a 6–2, 6–3 win, coming back with a strong attitude regardless of their tough singles losses. They were the deserved winners of the match, closing the tie 2–1 in favor of Spain. 

Kristoff Puelinckx Awarded Golden Caravel at Fiera del Levante 

On Thursday, July 17 at the Fiera del Levante in Bari, Gaetano Frulli, President of Nuova Fiera del Levante, welcomed Kristoff Puelinckx, Belgian entrepreneur and CEO of Tennium, the international tennis platform organizing the 2025 Hopman Cup. 

During the meeting, Puelinckx was presented with the Golden Caravel, a prestigious award honoring individuals who contribute to the promotion of the Fiera. The symbol represents trade and Bari’s patron saint, St. Nicholas“This visit marks an important sign of interest in our region,” said Frulli. “It lays the foundation for future collaborations and strengthens the Fiera as a hub for top-level international cultural and sporting events.” 

The morning began with Flavio Cobolli, Donna Vekic, and Stefanos Tsitsipas joining media day at Ristorante Polvere di Stelle, atop the scenic rooftop of the Hotel Gran Albergo delle Nazioni. With stunning views over Bari, the players tried their hand at making Puglia’s iconic orecchiette pasta during a fun express masterclass. 

Between laughs and dough shaping, they also took time to meet with the press and conduct interviews with the many media outlets present. 

Later in the day, the action shifted to the court at the Fiera del Levante. With a full house and roaring home support, Team Italy kicked off their campaign with three thrilling, closely contested matches—culminating in a big win over defending champions Croatia. A truly spectacular start to the 2025 Hopman Cup in Bari! 

Bronzetti (ITA) def. Vekic (CRO) 6–3, 4–6, 10–1 

Lucia Bronzetti earned the first point for Italy with a determined performance against Donna Vekic. She dominated the opening set, jumping to a 4–0 lead thanks to deep returns and capitalizing on Vekic’s early errors. The Croatian fought back in the second, building a 5–2 lead and eventually forcing a deciding super tiebreak. There, Bronzetti regained control, racing to a 6–1 lead and closing it out 10–1. 

“I knew it would be tough—she’s a strong opponent,” said Bronzetti. “But when you play for Italy, you always find something extra. Doing it in front of our fans made it even more special. We’ll need more of their support—it’s not over yet!” 

Cobolli (ITA) def. Ajdukovic (CRO) 6–7(1), 6–4, 10–6 

Flavio Cobolli followed with a hard-fought win over Duje Ajdukovic. After a tightly contested first set where the Croatian dominated the tiebreak 7–1, Cobolli raised his level. Despite some frustration, he broke Ajdukovic late in the second set and forced a deciding super tiebreak. After taking a 5–1 lead, Cobolli held off a comeback to close the match 10–6. 

“I feel like a team player,” Cobolli said. “I love this format—it’s so fun. Lucia is amazing to play with. Now we’ll enjoy the mixed doubles without too much pressure and hopefully build on this for the rest of the competition.”

The tie concluded with the mixed doubles match, giving the Italian pair a chance to test their chemistry in front of a lively home crowd, with the super tie-break ending with a win for Croatia 6-4, 2-6, 10-8.

Known for one of the most elegant one-handed backhands in the sport, Gasquet combines experience, finesse, and resilience. 

He and Paquet will compete in the Hopman Cup’s iconic mixed-team format—men’s singles, women’s singles, and mixed doubles—as they aim to lead France to lift the trophy!
