Here's a Thanksgiving Video Special from the Hopper Video Vault (12/05).

One interesting and sad coincidence, in the section of the video where things start to go badly for the Indians; I use football footage to parallel the narration regarding war. The football footage includes quarterback Michael Vick, who would later be sent to prison for dog fighting. The human bloodlust has not been satisfied yet. And on that happy note, have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

NOT SAFE FOR WORK!!

Here's another from the attic. This movie is the my second post-linear editing effort (I bought a used Media 100). My great buddy Maurice Martin and I came up with the idea of a character that had trouble differentiating between technology and nature. We walked around my neighborhood and shot Maurice in character. By the way, I did not ask him to lick the tire, I said "look at it lovingly" --- and the rest is history (we washed his mouth out with peroxide).

This picture doesn't show much discipline or focus, but it does show my excitement to communicate in new ways and with the fancy new tools! Fun days (of more than 10 years ago). You also get a look at the original, epic, and silly Hopper Video logo.

Kid's a great showman, and you want to see his face as he's singing, but there wasn't enough light for my camera to capture his face. So, I made the most out those instances when I had light via nearby photographers.

Dennis Beach is a friend and a terrific artist. Dennis' sculpture "Flow" is currently part of a show called Aquifer curated by J.W. Mahoney and Deborah McLeod. Aquifer was mounted by the Washington Project for the Arts and the Washington Sculptors Group. If you're near DC please check out the show at Pepco's Edison Place Gallery, 702 Eighth St. NW, Washington, DC 20068 through December 19.

As to "Flow" it was great fun to shoot because every angle I could come up with looked good. Now that might be a criterion for great sculpture . . . perhaps!

What a difference two weeks make! I still think Obama is going to win. He’s still a great communicator and still has the better plan for America. But, back on August 28th I did not imagine that Obama would shortly be smeared as a pedophile, that McCain would pick an unqualified running mate, that this running mate would distort her and Obama’s record and be allowed to get away with it for days on end, that the media would accept this unqualified running mate being sequestered from public questioning, and that fake charges of sexism would dominate the news for days. Good God, the market place of ideas seems to be broken this September. Fear not, there are better days ahead. I hope.
