Jacob Hair is a Los Angeles based artist whose credits span television, comic books, and film. After receiving a BFA in Sequential Art at The Savannah College of Art and Design in 2001, Jacob began his career as a freelance storyboard artist and concept designer, working on a wide range of films including STARSHIP TROOPERS 3, Anthony C Ferrante’s BOO, and the outrageous 2001 MANIACS franchise.

After a brief stint in digital film restoration and working as a creature designer for several make-up effects houses, Jacob landed a storyboard position on KING OF THE HILL, shifting his focus into television animation. At this printing Jacob works as an assistant director at Fox Animation Studios on such popular shows as AMERICAN DAD and FAMILY GUY.

Fred Harper's life goal at the age of 14 was to be a caricature artist in a carnival or amusement park. Fred achieved this lofty goal by age 19 as a summer job at Cedar Point amusement park in Sandusky, OH. Time to make new goals! Fred graduated with a BFA in painting at Columbus College of Art and Design and painted hundreds of murals for "The Limited Express" until he got his pencil in the door at Marvel comics. He painted posters, pin-ups, and covers as well as drew interiors for titles such as "Conan", "Spiderman", and "Doctor Strange".

Fred's shown his work at CBGB's 313, The Museum of American Illustration, and Banning and Low galleries in Washington D.C. (two solo shows!). Fred's work is in the private collections of the rich and powerful... not that he could call in any "favors"... but his illustrations have appeared in such great publications as "Time", "The Wall Street Journal","The New York Times", "Playboy", "The Village Voice", "Sports Illustrated", and just about every issue of "The Week" magazine.

Fred makes appearances at high schools and colleges. Some of these have been at Collegiate in NYC, McDowell High School, Brooklyn School of Technology, The Pratt Institute, and Syracuse University. The National Caricaturist Network gave him the "Best Color Award" and has invited him to guest teach a color seminar at their annual convention. Recently, he painted the key art for the 10th anniversary of this year's Ozzfest'05. When you see that kid in the black concert T-shirt with the Ozzy demon sitting on the crapper, think of Fred... Boy, that didn't sound good did it!?

MERRY CHRISTMAS-And All Through the House

From VAULT OF HORROR # 35, from the pre-code Christmas of 1953, a seasonal classic that is bound to pop up on a dozen blogs today or tomorrow... In fact, the beautiful black and white version is posted over at the always incredible Golden Age Comic Book Stories, and here (among other places) is the color version. (These scans from Gemstone reprint.) This story was also made into a pretty good 'Tales From The Crypt' TV episode. Story and art by the great Johnny Craig.

Adapted from the E.C. comics story And All Through the House for the Tales from the Crypt movie in the 70s, and again by Robert Zemeckis in the ‘80s when the television series of the same name premiered on HBO, this story is the granddaddy of scary Santa tales, and still remains the very best. When a woman murders her husband in cold blood, she finds herself trapped in the house and unable to alert the police when she is stalked by another killer…who just happens to be conveniently dressed as Santa Claus. Both renditions of this creepy tale of just desserts are extremely atmospheric, and turn the image of Santa creeping around outside in the snow into an image truly ominous and terrifying. Furthermore, this Santa is not above exploiting children’s love and wonderment of holiday magic to get his way…and in the story’s pivotal twist (as is always the case with E.C.), he does so to the utmost and chilling effect. For being the ultimate Claus creepster and laying the groundwork for every scary Santa that has come since, I cannot help but justly award the scariest Santa of all time award to the Santa killer from Tales from the Crypt, and pray that he doesn’t come down my chimney this year to collect his winnings.

Born on November 12th, 1967, in the harbor town of San Pedro, CA, Chet Zar's interest in art began at an early age. His parents were always very supportive and never put any limits on his creativity. His entire childhood was spent drawing, sculpting and painting.

Zar's interest in the darker side of art began in the earliest stages of his life. A natural fascination with all things strange fostered within himself a deep connection to horror movies and dark imagery. He could relate to the feelings of fear, anxiety and isolation that they conveyed. These are themes which had permeated most of his childhood drawings and paintings and are reflected in his work to this day.

The combined interest in horror films and art eventually culminated into a career as a special effects make up artist, designer and sculptor for the motion picture industry, designing and creating creatures and make up effects effects for such films as, "The Ring", "Hellboy I & II", "Planet of the Apes" and the critically acclaimed music videos for the art metal band Tool. Zar also embraced the digital side of special effects as well, utitlizing the computer to translate his dark vision with 3D animation for Tool’s live shows and subsequently releasing many of them on his own DVD of dark 3D animation, "Disturb the Normal".

But the many years spent dealing with all of the politics and artistic compromises of the film industry left Zar feeling creatively stagnant. At the beginning of 2000 (at the suggestion of horror author Clive Barker), he decided to go back to his roots and focus on his own original works and try his hand at fine art, specifically painting in oils. The result has been a renewed sense of purpose, artistic freedom and a clarity of vision that is evident in his darkly surreal (and often darkly humorous) paintings.

His artistic influences include painter James Zar (stepfather and artistic mentor), Beksinski, H.R. Giger, Frank Frazetta, M.C. Escher, Bosch, John Singer Sargent and Norman Rockwell just to name a few.

Mischief Night (also known as Devil's Night, Hell Night, Cabbage Night, Gate Night, Mizzy Night, Miggy Night, Goosing Night, and Egg Nyte) is an annual tradition in parts of The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Canada, and the United States when people (primarily teenagers and preteens) take a degree of license to play pranks and do mischief in their neighborhoods. The most common date for Mischief Night in North America is October 30, the day before Halloween.[1][2] However the traditional British Mischief Night is November 4, the night before Bonfire Night, as this was the night Guy Fawkes was in 1605 caught trying to blow up the House of Lords. Devil's Night can have a slightly different meaning and refer specifically to the serious vandalism and arson experienced in Detroit, Michigan during the late 1980s.

The earliest reference to the night is from 1790 when fellows of St John's College, Oxford, studied a headmaster who had encouraged a school play which ended in "an Ode to Fun which praises children's tricks on Mischief Night in most approving terms".[3] The pranks were originally carried as part of the May Day celebrations, but as workers moved into urban areas during the industrial revolution Mischief Night was moved to 4 November, the night before Guy Fawkes Night.[3] In Germany, Mischief Night still is celebrated the night before 1 May. According to one historian "May Day and the Green Man had little resonance for children in grimy cities. They looked at the opposite end of the year and found the ideal time, the night before the gunpowder plot."

In Camden, New Jersey, Mischief Night had escalated to the point where widespread arsons were committed in the 1990s. Over 130 arsons were committed in that city on the night of October 30, 1991.[4]
It is known as "Gate Night" in Trail, British Columbia, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Thunder Bay, Ontario, Nanuet, NY,Valley Cottage, NY, North Dakota and South Dakota (USA) and as "Mat Night" in Quebec (Unconfirmed, See "The Basketball Jones"), Canada, always on the 30 October, the eve of Halloween.[2] It is also commonly known as "Devil's Night" in many places throughout Canada and western Pennsylvania.

It is also known in Yorkshire as "Mischievous Night", "Miggy Night",[2] "Tick-Tack Night", "Corn Night", "Trick Night" and "Micky Night" and is celebrated on November 4.[5] In Liverpool, it is known as "Mizzy Night" and is celebrated on October 30.[6]
Popular tricks include toilet papering yards and buildings, powder-bombing and egging cars, people, and homes, using soap to write on windows, "forking" yards, setting off consumer fireworks, and smashing pumpkins and jack-o'-lanterns.[2] Local grocery stores often refuse to sell eggs to pre-teens and teens around the time of Halloween for this reason. Occasionally though, the damage can include the more serious spray-painting of buildings and homes.[7]
Less destructive is the ever-popular "Ding-Dong Ditch". in this 'game' people ring doorbells or knock on doors, and then run and hide somewhere nearby. Areas known to use this term include suburban Chicago, Northern New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Vermont. "Knick knock" or "Knicker-knocking" is commonly used in the Pittsburgh area of Pennsylvania and "Knock n' Run" and "Knock Knock, Zoom Zoom" is commonly used in the New Jersey/Philadelphia area as well as in Liverpool, England. "Ring and Run" is also commonly used in northern New Jersey and New York. This game is known as Nicky-Nicky Nine Doors in Southern Ontario or Knock, Knock, Ginger throughout eastern Canada.[8] A similar name exists in North East England, where it is known as Knicky-Knocky-Nine Doors. In Northern England the game is known by a number of names which vary by area, such as "knock and nash" and "bobby knocking", and often involves the joint pursuit of "hedge hopping", whereby the pranksters will jump from garden to garden, knocking on each door in turn before making a get-a-way to avoid being seen. In Scotland it is known as "Chapdoor Runaway" or even just "Chappy". In northern Lancashire it is known as Knock-a-door run. One variation on "Ding-Dong Ditch" involves pranksters inserting a pin into a doorbell so that it rings continuously. Also known in London.UK as "Knock down ginger".
Among younger children, the practice of trick-or-treating on Halloween night itself traditionally carried the implied threat of minor pranks (or "tricks") in the absence of the requested "treats"; in modern times, however, this threat is rarely if ever acted upon.

In Detroit, Michigan, which was particularly hard-hit by Devil's Night arson and vandalism throughout the 1980s, many citizens take it upon themselves to patrol the streets to deter arsonists and those who may break the law. This is known as "Angels' Night." Some 40,000 volunteer citizens patrol the city on Angels' Night, which usually runs October 29 through October 31, around the time most Halloween festivities are taking place.

The night is commonly known as "Cabbage Night" in parts of Vermont; Connecticut; Upstate New York; Newport, Rhode Island; Bergen County, New Jersey; and Boston, Massachusetts.
In Berkshire County, Massachusetts the night was commonly referred to as "Cabbage stalk night" from the 1970s through the '90s.
In rural Niagara Falls, Ontario during the 1950s and '60s, Cabbage Night referred to the custom of raiding local gardens for leftover rotting cabbages & hurling them about to create mischief in the neighbourhood.

Hey These guys are trying to get a Horror Comic going at Kickstarter--give em a hand

Colin Bryan along with fellow screenwriter and novelist
Emily Kieson have written a graphic novel called "86 Plots." "86
Plots" is about a group of college kids who spend the summer of 1979
digging up a cemetery to find a long lost treasure, and terrible things
happen. It is basically a mix of Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Sherlock
Holmes, and Scooby-Doo. The artist and colorist is Kelsey Shannon; his
credits include Batman Adventures, X-Men Unlimited, Bastard Samurai,
Invincible, and many more. This is the largest project he has ever done
by far at over 200 pages, and is labor of love for all of us involved.
The art is amazing, and the first 21 pages can be seen exclusively
on kickstarter.com. It is a great book, and I'm not just saying that.
The art is truly something special, go take a look and you will see,
the writing too. The book has been compared with "The Walking Dead" and
"30 Days of Night" in an online article in the Austin Chronicle.

Born March 2, 1973, in Springfield Missouri and growing up in neighboring Kansas, Kris spent his youth in rural seclusion and isolation along with a blue-collar, working mother, two much-older brothers and an absent father. Open country, sparse trees, and alcoholic stepfather, perhaps paved the way for an individual saturated in imagination and introversion. His fascination with the unusual lent to his macabre art later in life. The grotesque to him, as it seemed, was beautiful. Reaching adulthood his art blossomed and created a breakthrough of personal freedom from the negative environment experienced during his youth. He soon discovered his distaste for the typical American life and pop culture, feeling that he has always belonged to the ‘Old World’. Yet, Kris’ work is about a new wilderness, refined and elevated, visualized as a cultivation emerging from the corrupt and demoralized fall of modern-day society. A place were new beginnings, new wars, new philosophies, and new endings exist.

In personal reflection, he feels that in the world today much of mankind is oftentimes frivolous and fragile, being driven primarily by greed and materialism. He hopes that his art exposes the fallacies of Man, unveiling a new level of awareness to the viewer. His work has received several awards and prizes and has been featured in over 100 exhibitions in galleries and museums worldwide including the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery. Kris’ art can also be seen in a number of international art magazines, book covers and theatrical posters. Kris’ art is featured in both public and private collections in the United States, Europe, and Australia that include individuals such as Mark Parker (Nike CEO), Kay Alden (three time Emmy award winning writer for Young and the Restless & Bold and the Beautiful), Fred Durst (musician, and film director), and Chris Weitz (movie director The Golden Compass & American Pie).

Voodoo Terror" was drawn by Chic Stone who drew about a half dozen or so stories for Eerie Publications. He also drew a few early covers including the first issue of TALES FROM THE TOMB (Vol.1 No.8) WEIRD (Vol.3 No.2 and No.3) and TERROR TALES (Vol. 1 No.7 and No. 8). All pretty grisly stuff."

Chic Stone was known for inking over jack Kirby on numerous Marvel titles in the 60's. i didn't know he did horror until recently.
