Horror Metropolis 003: Silent Horror

Wolfman Josh Ligairi, a documentary filmmaker, joins us to talk about vampires and witches from the creepy era of Silent Horror.

The first hour of Episode 003 is dedicated to an in-depth discussion of “Nosferatu” (1922), the vampire film that defined the onscreen portrayal of the legendary blood-sucker. And during the remaining 47 minutes, we review a bizarre Swedish documentary about witchcraft called “Häxan” (1922).

Horror Metropolis is a bi-weekly horror movie podcast featuring in-depth reviews of two horror films with at least one theme in common. Hosted by Jay of the Dead, Horror Metropolis delivers an all-star assembly of co-hosts that includes BillChete, Dr. Shock, and Terror Tovey, as well as occasional surprise guests. New episodes will now be released every other Sunday, starting with Episode 004.

The Cutting Room has reached its first milestone with big episode number ten. Thanks for coming along for the ride, folks!

Sadly, The Maxsacre isn’t around this week. He says he was vacationing with his lovely wife on California’s central coast but we suspect he was on some strange and terrible bender that involved spiritual tit for tats with Roger Waters, the perusal of grotesque ass tattoos, and unseemly altercations at breakfast buffet bars with one-legged cranks. Still, we missed ya, Max!

Any event, after the how-ya-doin’s we welcome our very special guest, the owner of horror-fix.com, Mr. Ash Hamilton. Ash talks to us about his horrific website and his passion for the macabre and cinema.

Next, we welcome the infamous director of THE ORPHAN KILLER, Mr. Matt Farnsworth and his lovely lead actress Diane Foster. We’re truly privileged to have them on the show to discuss their incredibly bloody and disturbing film and give us some rare insight into their careers in the film world.

Ash sticks around for the entire episode to help us review this week’s films starting with Tomahawk’s slice and dice mutilation of the new DVD release, TEXAS KILLING FIELDS, which, in Tom’s words, may be THE MOST SCARIEST film ever made. You be the judge! Wink wink.

Rob Zombie is our classic review theme and The Reverend starts the sermon off with his intro to HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES. Grim summons the fires of RZ hell and flirts with blasphemy before blessing the Cutting Room with his unholy water.

The Cutting Room 009: Exploitation Cinema with Special Guest Vicodin

The boys are left alone for episode 009 and things get heavy! Having his wisdom tooth pulled earlier in the day, Maxsacre is hopped up on prescription Vicodin making things a little crazier than usual.

After the normal introductions from our host and co-hosts, the bloodied butchers of The Cutting Room have a great discussion about exploitation favorites Larry Clarke, Harmony Korine & Werner Herzog before they even get started, once again assuring our listeners that the conversations can and will go anywhere!

TomaHawk is first up with an introduction to Todd Browning’s FREAKS from 1932. Max gets a bit emotional and Mummy & Grim give you some great history behind this beautiful masterpiece.

Maxsacre gasses up the chainsaw for one of the most insane introductions to any movie we have reviewed here: SCREAM, BLACULA, SCREAM. The review moves into a personal and somewhat deep discussion about race and culture here in the old USA!

Next, we move across the globe to the great country of Japan as our shop sushi chef Billy Grim gives us another stellar intro for Takashi Miike’s 2001 cult classic ICHI THE KILLER. Billy gives us a great lesson on Miike’s career as well.

Finally, Joe Mummy unwraps himself and reviews the new dvd release of HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN and brings the show full circle.

Aside from being an old pal of Mummy and Tomahawk’s, Mr. Taverney is a playwrite, animal wrangler, shirtless stud, thorn in Maxsacre’s side, vampire book model, and documentarian… and that’s just in his off-time (his regular job is children’s book author superhero).

Mr. Taverney helps the sword-swallowers talk about THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE 2 after The California Chainsaw Maxsacre delivers his very first official dvd review on the show.

Then we all travel back in time to review three Val Lewton classics from the 1940′s: CAT PEOPLE, I WALKED WITH A ZOMBIE, and THE LEOPARD MAN.

Welcome to episode 13. We are excited to bring everyone this episode as we have Kenny Caperton from Myers House NC sit in with us as we review 1980 John Carpenter’s The Fog and 2005 The Fog remake. Kenny lives in a life size replica of the original Halloween Michael Myers house. We want to thank Kenny for taking time out of his schedule to be on this episode.
Also during this episode we interviewed Writer, Director and Actor Michael Sharpe. Michael Sharpe starred in The Devil’s Crossing which GregaMortis has a small zombie part in. Along with this Michael has been busy directing Short films Monomaniacal and Deviling. He also Co-Stars in Scarecrow at Midnight which will debut on Grisley Zone this month. During this interview Michael gives us Exclusive news about a new Feature Film he will begin shooting soon with the one and only Scream Queen herself Tiffany Shepis. Michael has not told any media about this so for Michael to reveal this on Land Of The Creeps is humbling. We want to thank Michael for being on the show.

After 25 episodes and 25 weeks of bringing you 88 unforgettable horror movie reviews, battles, and interviews, this bittersweet 26th episode announces that The Weekly Horror Movie Podcast is ending. We’ve had a great time producing this podcast, and we thank all the fans who have listened to us each week, left us comments and supported our show.

The Horror Palace Network will preserve all 26 episodes of The Weekly Horror Movie Podcast in its archives for all to revisit, retiring this show in honor — like the jersey of a great baseball player.

But not to worry: In its place the Horror Palace Network presents two new dynamite horror movie podcasts!

On Sunday, April 29, Midnight Corey will launch a new weekly podcast called THE ELECTRIC CHAIR. In this solo-cast show, Midnight Corey will bring on a variety of different guests for every show — filmmakers, authors, musicians, artists, podcasters, and more. He’ll also review new and classic horror, plus add in plenty of meaty horror discussion.

And on Friday, April 27, Jay of the Dead is coming back to the Horror Palace Network as the host of a brand new horror movie podcast: HORROR METROPOLIS — The Capital City of Horror Movie Podcasting. Horror Metropolis is a bi-weekly horror movie podcast featuring in-depth reviews of two horror films with at least one theme in common. Jay of the Dead has reassembled an all-star team of co-hosts that include BillChete, Dr. Shock, Terror Tovey and occasional surprise guests.

Further Explanation

We realize that all these new changes will probably come as a shock to many fans who loved this show. You might have questions like, “Why are you dropping The Weekly Horror Movie Podcast altogether?” and, “Why is Midnight Corey resuming his solo-casting, and why are BillChete, Dr. Shock and Terror Tovey co-hosting with Jay of the Dead again?” and “Why did Jay of the Dead come back after being gone for only 12 weeks?”

Here are the answers to those questions:

TWHMP was growing and becoming very time-consuming for all of us — four movies per week and three- to four-hour recording times were getting to be too much to balance with our other responsibilities, like our jobs and families. On TWHMP, we started booking more and more guests and co-hosts, which became its own dimension to the show. We all wanted Jay of the Dead to come back — and he agreed, because he was able to work out the challenges in his personal life that made him leave in the first place, such as his employment, schedule and so forth.

So with five hosts again, four movies, longer episodes and more frequent quests, something had to be done…

Everybody knows that Midnight Corey is great at interviewing, and he still wanted to host a weekly podcast. The rest of us wanted to scale back a bit for the time being, and we wanted to work with Jay of the Dead again. The result? We created two podcasts from one: The Electric Chair is dedicated entirely to interviews and guest hosts, and Horror Metropolis is dedicated to a panel discussion of two, themed horror movies (with a familiar flavor to The Weekly Horror Movie Podcast).

We are all still good friends. No one was kicked off or fired. And don’t worry fans, crossover visits between the two podcasts are already in the works!

Finally, we thank all the listeners for your support of The Weekly Horror Movie Podcast. We truly loved bringing this show to you every week, and we look forward to bringing you more great content on the Horror Palace Network.

Billy Grim and Joe Mummy got together to record their votes for Terror Troop’s latest poll and what was intended to be a simple thirty second audio vote turned into a fifty minute dissertation that starts with a review of JAWS then winds its way around to David Lynch, Hitchcock, Ingmar Bergman, existentialist subtexts in Hollywood blockbusters, the morality of manipulative cinema, and god knows what. Boy, can these two yammer like a couple of yentas at a sewing circle.

Anyway, we had it on tape and thought the discussion may be of interest to you guys as a supplement to the forthcoming Terror Troop episode, so we’re letting it loose, come what may. We hope you enjoy it.

We’ll be back with a great regularly scheduled episode on Thursday with special guest Jeff Shroeck, the guitarist and singer of the meteoric punk band Black Wine. The show also marks the debut of the inimitable Max ‘The Maxsacre’ Koch and we have a fantastic talk about APOLLO 18, the career of David Cronenberg (starting with reviews of THE DEAD ZONE and THE FLY), and professional wrestling.

Grisly Zone (Audio) 025: Creature And Deviling

This week on Grisly Zone we have a first-timer to the Video realm, a kind-hearted gentleman who runs the Evil Episodes podcast right here on the Horror Palace Network, “Evil” Mike Maryman. Check out his Website and Twitter feed. ChrisiFix was missing in action as she was under the weather, she will be back next episode.

The featured review this week is on a horror movie that was pulled quickly out of theaters in 2011 called Creature. This flick has many independent horror stars in it with a horror heavyweight Sid Haig gracing the screen. Creature is Rated R and was released on DVD on Tuesday, March 20th.

The “Screamingly Scary Short Of The Week” is an insanely sick psychologically thriller titled Deviling. The horror short was written and directed by Michael Sharpe of Sharpe Edge Films. You can follow Deviling on Facebook and view the full short on Vimeo. A special shout-out to the Assistant Director Kenny Caperton of MyersHouseNC, who built from the ground-up, the Halloween spook house in Hillsborough, NC. Deviling runs for 14 minutes.

The show concludes with BillChete rating one of ChrisiFix’s Top 10 Predictions and Evil Mike discusses Silent House, both the original and the remake currently playing in theaters right now.

The Cutting Room 003: Mr. Popper’s Penguins (Dahmer, Bundy & Max Koch)

Our special guest for this episode is the very talented Mr. Max Koch, co-founder of the Bowler Hat You Tube Channel and the voice of Mantis on KUNG FU PANDA: LEGENDS OF AWESOMENESS!

Max is gonna help the boys carve a little fun into the show as we review two films based on real life serial killers. Lock your doors, avoid strangers and do not help anyone wearing a cast on his arm that may need help moving his sailboat!!!

The show begins with a little visit from a self “made” man who plugs his slasher flick CLEAVER. Then following the usual introductions of the three regular CUTTING ROOM butchers, Tomahawk slices and dices his way through an awesome interview with Max.

The Evil Reverend Billy Grim soon delivers an unholy sermon on the re-release of the 1981 arthouse horror flick POSSESION. During which, Joe mentions his favorite Jim Carey movie!!!

This brings the Mummy to life for a spirited intro of DAHMER., a 2002 biopic starring Jeremy Renner. What ensues is a classic conversation you do not wanna miss. Next the TomaHawk hops into TED BUNDY directed by Matthew (FREEWAY 1 & 2) Bright. Everyone sharpens their knives for this 2002 film that will leave you bloody and disturbed.

Oh yeah, also on this episode: The Mummy is forced to correct Tomahawk’s tidbit of misinformation regarding the co-star of POSSESSION and we run an ad from our new sponsor, The Cannibal corporation!
