The Story - Rags to Riches

With no Triple Crown winner, the racing industry needed something to awaken a sleeping media. That something came in June, with the running of the 2007 Belmont Stakes.

A small crowd of only 46,870 people had come to Belmont Park to see what they thought would be an uneventful third leg of the Triple Crown. To their surprise, they would see one of the most exciting finishes in Belmont history. They would see an amazing horse, Rags to Riches, become the first filly in 102 years to win the Belmont Stakes.

On her way to achieving this feat, she had to overcome a number of obstacles: a near disastrous stumble out of the starting gate, running most of the mile and a half on the far outside, then finally battling Curlin, the big chestnut colt, eye to eye, right down to the wire.

The story of this wonderful filly is best told in a quote by Steve Haskins in an article for The Blood-Horse magazine. "There is a saying attributed to both Eleanor Roosevelt and Carl Sandberg. A Woman is like a tea bag. It's only when she's in hot water that you realize how strong she is."

While we have gotten attached to her, we want to continue saving other horses from slaughter at auction and can only do this if we find good homes for them one by one. Registered TWH Mare with Filly

Miss Ellie arrived in foal approximately one month ago. She had a beautiful filly (Freedom) on May 22, 2007. Freedom's sire is a 16.2H Cremello therefore, she will be a golden Palomino. Miss Ellie has not been ridden in three to four years however, she has been saddled and sat on with no problems whatsoever. I am comfortable in saying that she will be an excellent riding mare with only a refresher; or she would be an excellent addition as a broodmare as Freedom is her fourth foal. She is an excellent, loving mother. Even though she is protective of Freedom, she has never offered to kick, bite, or be aggressive in any way when I am with them.

Why am I selling such wonderful horses, you may ask? I purchased Miss Ellie in foal, knowing nothing about raising or training babies. It was my intention that my 13-year old daughter would be able to ride Miss Ellie after Freedom was weaned. Since the arrival of Freedom, I now realize how much time and effort it takes to raise a foal. I also have another horse who is young and requires attention. I just do not have the time nor financial resources to keep all three of them. I currently board at a public facility.

Miss Ellie is up-to-date on all shots, coggins and farrier. All vet records will be provided. When I purchased her, she had not been handled by a farrier in quite a long time. Even while pregnant, she did wonderfully.

Harvey - Bay Thoroughbred

Harvey is a bay thoroughbred approximately 13 yrs old. He is an all around good horse. He is NOT a trail horse however. He will need work to be a trial or show horse. He still has a little trouble getting his leads correct in the canter, because no one has worked with him properly since he was a race horse. I am trying my best to work with him, but I work as well so I can only get out to the barn every so often. He is good for hunters, small jumps, western and he could possibly do dressage with proper trimming. He is best in an enclosed arena setting ( he lets the race horse side come out when he is outside). He needs an experienced rider that is good with an excited animal. Older Paint Gelding

I have a 30 plus paint gelding that needs a new home asap. I was injured in August and got him in November thinking I would be able to ride by now, Doctors say not for a long time yet. He is a great little horse. I have not ridden him but he was ridden when I purchased him and I do take the kids out, saddle him up and lead them around. He loves attention and treats. No major health problems that I am aware of. Had his teeth floated last week, vet said he is missing a few. No vices that I am aware of. He would follow you around all day if you let him.
