Horse Abuse - Terrible, Terrible...

I've studied horse abuse and neglect for the last 24 hours, watching a wide variety of videos on the topic and reading websites. The problem of abused and neglected horses is tremendous. Apparently owners of many horses lose the ability to take care of them right, and rather than finding viable homes, they let the horses starve or worse. Other abuse cases are simply ignorant people thinking they can hit horses... one video even showed repeated use of a cattle prod that was never intended to be used on horses as they are too sensitive.

Then today I logged onto YouTube to see the new horse videos and found this tear-jerker video of a horse whose hooves were not properly cared for. Such a treacherous sad cruelty - to neglect an animal until it gets into such bad condition that it cannot walk and must be put to sleep. The horse in this video had to be moved to a place where it could be put down... it was heavily sedated. And such a pity - it was a beautiful horse. The owners should have sold it long ago.

Today I also found a "best case scenario" for a horse whose owner couldn't care for it. Read this blog: Nina's Story ... that page is the beginning of the story. I'm so grateful to find that horse blog after reading so many sad stories last night.

In New Hampshire the Granite State Carriage Friends got together for some carriage horse fun... traveling in the slow lane. Looks like the horses had a good time, plus the young man from Germany and all the club members. From YouTube member, HorsePaintings, posted today...

Here at home I reminisced about all the horse models I collected when I was a kid, and wrote Model Horse Sales while sifting through my favorite site looking at gorgous model horses... even found one of Bucephalus (Alexander the Great's horse)... lots of fun and good memories there.

Did You Ever Want to Stand on Your Horse?

Honestly, I did. I saw a movie when I was a child - of children performing on horses at a circus. They stood up, sat down, galloped around, and I fantasized about being one of them. (Anyone know what movie that was? I've plum forgot the name and I'd like to see it again.)

Today when I saw horseawareness' new YouTube video about how to stand up on your horse, I was reminded of the movie, the childish (yes, childish) unfulfilled desire to stand on a horse while it bounced merrily around a ring in front of hundreds of circus-goers.

I really dug that daydream.

Speaking of horse movies, I made a new page today at Hub Pages -- actually my *first* page there though I joined the site 22 months ago. I finally got around to trying the site out and it was not all that scary after all. No doubt I'll make lots of pages there in the future. My newest, Favorite Horse Movies, tells about four horse movies I very much love, and one I very much want to see.

Horse School in Gaza

I'm thrilled to find a horse school video from Gaza... those people have had such a lot of fear and suffering, it makes me feel good to see them cleaning their horses at the beach... and the Mediterranean Sea never looked better. So beautiful!

Last year after so many children were maimed and killed during the attack on Palestine, I made a web page to let people know about how we can contribute to medical aid for injured children of that region. The organization, Palestine Children's Relief Fund, helps children in Palestine, Iraq, and other countries nearby.

Today I made a search for horse blogs and found some, but not nearly enough. Yes, I know that's a big order... but that's my goal.

Horses, What's Not to Love?

They are big, beautiful, silky, personable... what's not to love about horses? I've loved horses since I was very young. You know, horses are a young girl's dream. It happens to many of us.

I have a lot of favorite Horse Movies including Hidalgo, The Man From Snowy River, another Australian horse movie: The Silver Stallion - which was also called the Silver Brumby. And others. I love horse movies. That is one of the reasons I made this blog... to write about the horse movies I love.

Hmm, what else? Well, my favorite horse of all time is The Godolphin Arabian, and I wish someone would make a horse movie out of his life - it would be so very cool. There was a book written about him.. will write about that later... movies today, books some other day.
