CNN report on how Amateur Radio is helping in Haiti

CNN has a story about the first QSOs from Haiti after the devastating earthquake.Bed ridden HAM, William F. Sturridge KI4MMZ, has been manning his radio round the clock in Florida and relaying messages to very grateful families looking for any sign their family members are safe. My hat is off to this generous HAM, and my thoughts are with the people of Haiti.

2 M repeater installed with video tour of repeater site planned for 4/14 general meeting.

We have just uploaded pics of the newly installed 2M rig at our repeater site. We will show a short video tour planned for the next general meeting on 4/14. In the video Rob Smith, AB2UV, will walk us through the equipment in our repeater cabinet and we get a look at our recently erected antennas.

HoSARC Repeater installation is well under way. Pictures provided by Rob Smith AB2UV show cabinet installation of equipment moving along nicely. The verticals have been installed and we hope to have news of our repeater reactivation in the near future.

Club trip to the Greater Baltimore Hamboree 3/28/09

The club is planning a trip down to the Timonium hamfest once again on Saturday, March 28th.
3 times the club has attended we have found it a worth while and fun trip.

It is a 3.5-4 hour drive to the Maryland State Fair Grounds ( around 210 miles) and we have carpooled leaving from the hall around 5:30 AM and arriving back at the hall around 9- 10 PM during past trips.

We may set up a club table in the tail gate area, so if you have anything to sell have it marked and ready to go .All we ask in return is that you staff the table for a very short shift so all the members of the trip have time to enjoy the fest.

If you have HF mobile capabilities the CQ WW WPX Contest is going on the same day we are leaving and if we have at least two vehicles we also hold a very easy going competition on which car makes the most amount of contacts to and from the fest. So far there has been no prize but I'm sure we can come up with something.

If you are interested in going we need to know if you can drive and how many people you can take comfortably so we can match drivers to passengers. We have from experience noticed we always lack drivers but please be rest assured that anyone who volunteers for this trip is also volunteering to help pay for the gas and tolls associated with this trip.

I would like to put this list together no later than Monday the 23th so circle your calendars and leave a reply as soon as possible.

W2ML-STEVE MENDELSOHN--- will be talking about NFL Game Day Frequency Coordination and how it led to catching the New England Patriots cheating. Steve has spoken to us before and is a strong supporter of the club. He is also the recipient of the 2004 DeForest Audion Gold Medal for contributions to the wireless art, bringing the sounds of history to America, and for advancing audio technology.

We are going to try the hold our repeater work party again this Saturday as our last one was canceled due to the weather.We need a few volunteers to help transport our equipment to its new location. 24 hour club trip to super station K1TTT 1/17/09

As you know the club has taken this trip several times and we have surpassed our score each year from the previous years and we plan on accomplishing this goal again on this trip.The contest we participate in is the North American QSO Party, limited to US stations only using only 100 watts with a limit of two transmitters on at any given time.

Our January general meeting on Tuesday the 13th at 8:00 PM in the museum cafe as this will be a very important meeting and chance to hopefully answer your concerns,listen to your ideas and plan for our future. This is a very important meeting, probably the biggest of the year as
far as the club goes. If you would like your voice to be heard

The Practical Amateur Radio Podcast is a very informative podcast I have been listening to. I noticed that on one of the website for show notes there was a broken link to a file on repeater etiquette. While informing KD0BIK of the link I also mentioned our club and he read the email I sent on his next podcast, complete with our work with the museum of science. Turns out he has even had a QSO with the club while in Texas.
