Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach (born September 24, 1989), and also known both locally in Mindanao and professionally as Pia Romero, is a Filipina-German actress, model and beauty queen who was crowned Binibining Pilipinas 2015 on March 15, and later crowned Miss Universe 2015 on December 20.

Wurtzbach's father is German and her mother is from the Philippines. She was born in Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg but then moved to Cagayan de Oro on the island of Mindanao in her teens. In Cagayan de Oro, she attended kindergarten at Kong Hua School and primary school at Corpus Christi.
Wurtzbach speaks fluent Cebuano (Visayan), English, German and Tagalog.
She finished her secondary education at ABS-CBN Distance Learning School in Quezon City and studied Culinary Arts at the Center for Asian Culinary Studies in San Juan, Metro Manila.

Wurtzbach represented the Philippines in the Miss Universe 2015 held on December 20, 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. At the end of the show, host Steve Harvey announced Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutiérrez as the winner. However, after Gutiérrez's crowning, Harvey stated that he had misread the results and that Wurtzbach was the actual Miss Universe 2015. Miss Universe 2014 Paulina Vega then removed the crown from Gutiérrez's head and placed it on Wurtzbach's head.

You also said that it would be different, mas maraming concepts sa loob, mas makabuluhan at pinaghandaang mabuti. We're happy to finally welcome you to the FHM family. We know you're pretty nervous at the start of the shoot, though we don't see why you should be.
At first I was really nervous. Hindi ako nakatulog. Isang oras lang tulog ko. Kinakabahan kasi talaga ako kasi hindi ako magaling sa posing. Hindi ako magaling mag-emote-emote, kung paano dapat yung katawan. And that's whi I requested a photographer and stylist I'm comfortable with para kahit papano matulungan ako. Okay naman siya so far, happy naman ako nung nakita ko naman yung mga pictures, maganda naman siya, so excited ako actually.

We're sure people are rising their eyebrow, asking, why do FHM now?
Ngayon niyo lang ako inalok eh. Ha ha!

So had we asked you during your Tabing Ilog days, you would've said yes?
Ay, hindi. Yun lang, ngayon lang ako inalok. I only said yes because I'm not 16 anymore. Hindi rin naman ako 20s. So, why not? At saka, lagi ko lang sinasabi mas okay yung habang bata or kaya ng katawan ko bakit hindi? Alangan naman mag-decide ako na mag-cover kapag kulukulubot na yung balat ko. At least when I get older, I can see na kinaya ko to.

Since we've brought up Tabing Ilog, do you think Eds in all her manang-ness woukd approve? What about her fans?
I actually did a cover for another magazine in 2006. May mga na-shock, may mga natuwa kasi parang sinsabi nila na it's about time to reinvent yourself instead of being typecast as the kawawa ang probinsiyana. Tapos lately, Alynna. Two years ago, pinag-two piece ako. Tapos Angelito, nag-two piece na din ako. There weren't any negative comments naman, na ayaw nila kasi hindi na ako yung dating Eds na conservative, dalagang Pilipina. So far wala namang ganun, lahat sila natuwa actually, kasi ibang Kaye na.

Is that a conscious thing, to veer from the dalagang Pilipina image, or just a natural progression?
Actually, I didn't plan it, natural lang siyang dumating. Time ni God. Ang taray, time ni God! Ha ha! Eksakto lang din kasi hindi na naman kasi ako bata, ngayon lang siya dumating. Maybe before, when I was younger, baka hindi ko pa kayanin. so far lahat naman nang nagyari sa career ko, lahat tamang timing naman.

Speaking of your career, you've been with Star Magic since way back. We're daring to call you an "industry vet." How was the showbiz landscape changed since you started?
Ewan ko kung napansin ko lang, o sa Tabing Ilog lang yun. Yung Tabing Ilog kasi stressed sila pag nale-late yung script or pag may 'for airing' na kukunan, pero masya pa din. I'll arrive on the set and it didn't feel like work, it felt like family. There's bonding and nagiging ka-close mo talaga yung mga artista. Feeling ko ngayon, hindi naman lahatm pero mostly nadagdagan yung stress siguro para mas mapaganda yung show and ang dami na rin artista ngayon unlike before. Ang artista before, if you had a show, bihira kang mag-guest sa iba. Ang tawag nila doon fiesta. Parang, " O hindi ka muna pwede kasi baka mag-fiesta ka na naman." Pag nakita ka na sa hapon, makikita ka na naman sa gabi. Hindi pwede dati yun. Parang ngayon kasi may mga artista na lumalagari na araw-araw may trabaho na. For example, I'll tape something for today, then tomorrow I'll tape for the show that'll follow it. May ganun na ngayon, dati wala pa masyado. Kumbaga dati, kung dito ka lang, dito ka muna.

So showbiz was more relaxed before?
Yes. Pero parang gusto ng mga artista nngayon yung ganun. Bilang mahirap ang buhay, parang gusto nila laging magtrabaho. Ha ha!

I’m actually the quiet type, but sometimes I just don’t care if what I’m doing is right or wrong, basta gusto ko. Ha ha! I just want to spend the most out of my youth. Ayokong magsisi in the end na hindi ko nagawa ito or yan.

Cheers to that. Does that ideal ring true in your relationships? Do you always have things your way?
As a girlfriend, gusto ko lahat ng oras niya nasa akin. Ayaw kong may kahati. Selosa ako, eh. Ha ha! But I make sure I give him everything. Pero in return, ibibigay ko lahat. Iba akong magmahal, todo talaga. I don’t care what other people say.

What’s a secret to a lasting relationship?
Just enjoy the moments when you are together and don’t expect too much from your lover. Always make your girlfriend feel she’s important. That means a lot to her. And don’t forget to say you love her. Buy her chocolates and flowers, take her out—just do something to make every day special.

What do you do aside from modeling? How is aregulat day for you?
I'm a bum! Ha ha! I'm a homebody but minsan kapag bored I go shopping, or go to the spa or salon

How do you plan to spend the summer?
No concrete plans yet, but my friends and I are plannning to go Palawan.

Any chance you'll stop by Manila soon?
Hindi ko alam eh, pero I go there at least five times a year, I'll let you know for sure!

Lastly, we're working on an article on self-defense. Ever beaten up a guy?
Ha ha! Not yet. And I hope hindi na mangyayari yun. Ayaw kong umabot pa sa ganun. Ha ha!

Oo nga, it’s been one year! Thanks also for having me back.

You said it, it’s been a year. What have you been up to since we last saw each other?
Well, I got into Muay Thai, my boyfriend dragged me to do that. I’m still doing Bubble Gang. I did a cameo for My House Husband in MMFF. I don’t have a name, I’m just The Bank Teller, watch for that. And I think meron akong bagong show nitong 2012, pero I’m not sure which show yet.

Any resolutions for the New Year?
None! Ha ha! Ever since naman hindi talaga ako nagreresolutions. Kasi I end up not doing it. Rebelde talaga ako, sobra. I’m not very good with resolutions and promises. But this year is my year. It’s the year of the dragon and I am a dragon.

Wow, we didn’t know you were superstitious.
Yung Chinese horoscope lang. They say dragons are very lucky and I can say that I am very lucky. Wala pang time na kapit sa patalim. Kunwari, I run away from home. It’s never happened na I badly needed money. Hindi ko ma-feel na ang malas ko. Never. So I really feel very lucky.

Wait…run away from home? Where do you go?
Yes, rebelde nga kasi. So I go to a friend’s house, papa-adopt muna ako sa kanila. And then after that, uwi na ako ulit. But take note ha, yung times na naglayas ako, I worked. There was never a time na naglayas ako at umasa sa kanila. I lived in their houses but I paid for my food, I bought groceries. Not that nagpapabayad sila but I did that kasi nakakahiya. I always find a job when I make layas.

You are something else.
There was a time, I was only 17. I applied as a call center agent. Hindi pa ako nakaka-graduate nun, but they hired me as an HR personnel.

You seem to have done a lot of things—what’s the craziest you’ve ever done?
Ano ba? I used to do a lot of things. I used to party a lot, pero [I learned] wala rin namang mangyayari. Paulit-ulit lang: maglalasing ka, magkakaroon ka ng hangover tapos to level it out, inom ka ulit. It’s just a cycle. Ngayon, I rarely go out na.

So how do you like to spend your time now?
Taping, I go to the gym almost every day. And then I cook for my boyfriend. Para na akong housewife ngayon. Boring na ang buhay ko but I’m happy.

Good for you.
Yes! Mas intense talaga ang mga ginawa ko before pero ngayon, I’m more mellow and calm. I like myself better now. I feel at peace and I like it.

And you’re only 23.
Yes, but when you think about it, I started when I was 12. When I was 13, tumodo talaga ako until nag-give up na lang ang parents ko sa akin.

Bet you got into a lot of trouble then.
Yes! I always did, especially when I was younger. My parents were very strict because I was the only girl, di ba? So there were times when I was not allowed to do this or to go there pero siyempre I still would. Bahala na. Alam ko may consequences yun—nagging—but after that, it’s done. Pasaway talaga ako, pero alam ko namang hindi nila ako papatayin di ba? So okay lang.

You don’t fear anything?
I fear my dad. Natatakot talaga ako sa kanya, pero alam ko namang [after a fight] we’d be okay. Ha ha ha! Ngayon, wala na. Pinababayaan na lang niya ako.

Where do your guts come from?
From my dad. Ha ha ha! We’re the same! It’s the Adarna blood. We’re strong, palaban. I do what I want, ganyan. But also, maybe because I’m also young. Kelan pa ba ako mag-a-ano, di ba? When I’m old na and hindi na bagay sa akin? So yes, I do what I want. I can see myself in my dad because he’s also like that.
