Jada Pinkett-Smith On August Cover of Shape

When I passed by the newsstand and saw Jada Pinkett-Smith on the August cover of Shape magazine, I did a double take. The petite mother of two looks so ab fab that my immediate thought was, “How does she stay in such great shape?” I also wondered if she’s had a little too much Botox, but I’ll save that discussion for another post.

In the Shape cover story, Jada admits she is lacking in one area: “I can’t cook!” she says.

“It’s genetic. My grandmother can’t cook, my mother can’t cook. I was raised to believe you eat because your body needs fuel for energy, so I eat superfoods.”

Hot Topic: Karrine Steffans’ Vixen Manual

If taking lessons in love from a woman who has bedded Bill Maher, Bobby Brown, and a laundry list of rappers is the least bit appealing to you, then Karrine Steffans is your go -to -gal. The Vixen Manual: How to Find, Seduce and Keep the Man is the third literary offering from Steffans, who is affectionately nicknamed “Superhead” (charming). And as much as I hate to admit it, I scanned a few sample chapters online and the book apparently offers useful, albeit totally contradictory, tips.

For example, in Chapter Four, “Casual Sex,” a “demure” Karrine offers:

“Don’t be afraid to be a lady and take an old-fashioned approach to dating and sex… Proper posturing, appropriate language, coyness, and restraint are traits we could all stand to inherit…When you present yourself as a lady, you will be treated as such, and ladies don’t go around just giving it up. A lady makes a man work hard for every morsel of affection.”

Personally, I’m not buying the Ms. Manners routine, but judge for yourself. The Vixen Manual is available at Barnes & Noble.com and bookstores everywhere.

Hot or Not? Ashanti Mixes and Doesn’t Match

Ashanti has been poppin’ up a lot on Hot Mama Daily’s radar lately. Here the shapely singer is at the premiere of the new Harry Potter flick. While I admire Ashanti’s bold, mix-and-matchy color combination, I’m not sure if this outfit works.

What do you Hot Mamas think? Do you like the yellow top paired with the light blue skirt and the gray and black shoes? One thing I am certain of, however, is I’m not fond of the peep toe bootie/sandal trend. The last thing your feet need in the summertime is to be encased in leather.

So what’s the final verdict? Does Ashanti look Hot or Not?

Move over Beyonce. Whitney Houston is back! Her highly-anticipated new disc, I Look to You, will be available Sept. 1, but fans and record industry are already abuzz.

I’m still wondering, however, if Ms. Houston still has a problem. Ummm, those of you who saw her cameos on her former husband’s reality show, Being Bobby Brown, know what I mean. Let’s hope not. She looks healthy and beautiful on the album cover and in these photos from a recent listening event in London.

Real World Hot Mama Makeover!

My Diva Diet and Fitness Challenge is coming along slowly but surely. I’m still making strides, literally. After a week of serious effort that included an hour-long walk home over the Brooklyn Bridge several times last week, taking Natren’s Healthy Trinity and Healthy Tummy probiotic supplements, and cutting down on the carbs and sweets, I’ve lost a couple pounds.

I know, however, that for lasting results I need to pump up the cardio. And I can look to my own cousin, Janine Norris of Baltimore, for inspiration.

The busy director of health services and mother of two knew she had to literally get her rear in gear after experiencing problems with elevated blood pressure, high cholesterol, and fatigue. To make matters worse, the fashion plate couldn’t fit into her favorite clothes.

Here’s Janine’s weight loss success story:

Age: 45

Height: 5′8

Starting weight: 192

Current weight: 160

How’d you do it: I lost 32lbs in 4 months through exercise, running, and dietary changes. Every morning I do 30 minutes of cardio using a stair climber or elliptical machine. I incorporate weight training every other day and on the weekend I go running (6-8 miles). I eat fish and chicken and mostly salads. I’ve met my goal but I’m still interested in toning up.

Favorite beauty products: Oil of Olay, Lancome Mascara, and MAC lipstick/gloss

Favorite places to shop: Nordstrom, Talbot’s, and Ann Taylor

My Guilty Pleasure, The Wendy Williams Show

Without outrageous radio personality Wendy Williams, my work day afternoons would be a whole lot duller. I’ve been listening to the gossip girl since she returned to the New York City airwaves on WBLS in 2001, and I was among the fans who tuned in last summer during the trial sneak peak of her TV gab fest, “The Wendy Williams Show.”

Well, starting Monday, July 13 Wendy’s back on the tele, and this time I hope she’ll be around as long as Oprah…or at least as long as Tyra’s talk show.
