The New York band's first CD,never knew much about Dog Eat Dog until I heard this disc.They fuse rap and metal together,as it seems to work here okay.The two key musicians are Dave Neabore-bass&vocals and Sean Kilkenny-guitar as they change line-ups so often so I couldn't tell you who else played on this CD.Tunes I thought were decent were "Pull My Finger","Who's The King?","Strip Song" and "...In The Doghouse".Check it out.

Lost in the mix...
This cd came out with little fanfare,thanks to the "nirv" of grunge and all the bands that came along with it. This is one of their best but was released approximately a year too late. If you think that Warrant died with Cherry Pie,then check out this one as well as "Ultraphobic",which was pleasently surprising as well.

October 3rd, 1991 DOG EAT DOG live at The Pipeline Newark, NJ. This song is called FACE UP and was never recorded by the band. This is one of the earliest performances of Dog Eat Dog caught on tape. The lineup is JOHN CONNOR (Lead Vocals) DAVE NEABORE (Bass) DAN NASTASI (Guitar) SEAN KILKENNY (Guitar) and MARK MARRI (Drums). Dog Eat Dog called The Pipeline their home and even shot their video for NO FRONTS there! If you love old school Dog Eat Dog from the Warrant EP and All Boro Kings era, then FACE UP will bring back great memories. For some reason this song just never made it on record. This is DED at is most raw, doing it just for the fun of it. Enjoy this rare footage!

Guns N Roses ROCK!!!
This is actually the second time I bought this CD. The first one was loaned to a friend and she conveniently "lost" it she loved it so much. I have always liked Guns N Roses and my kids LOVE it. Plus, we are sentimental fans of "Welcome to the Jungle" since we lived in Cincinnati for a long time and it was the theme song for the Cincinnati Bengals as the games were starting. (I wish it would translate to them in their playing. Lol!) However, we LOVE this compilation of their greatest hist SO MUCH, that it was worth it to me to purchase it again. Thanks!!!

Made in EU in 2004, Serial# 82876-62334-2, Playing Time 173:04

At the time this review is written, there is no "track listing" posted. So for those of you interested in knowing more about this 3-CD release, here's the scoop:

Each disc consists of tracks focusing on 1 album, plus 2 live tracks (always lifted from the "Come Hell Or High Water" album).

Disc 1 concentrates on the "Purpendicular" release, and contains them all, except for 5 of them: "Loosen My Strings", "Soon Forgotten", "Cascades: I'm Not Your Lover", "The Purpendicular Waltz" and "Don't Hold Your Breath" are all absent; added are the live recordings of "Speed King" and "Highway Star".

Disc 2 concentrates on the "The Battle Rages On" release, and has 8 of the 10 original tracks; missing are "Anya" and "Nasty Piece Of Work"; added are the live recordings of "Child In Time" and "Perfect Strangers".

Disc 3 concentrates on the "Slaves And Masters" album, and features 7 of the 9 original tracks; missing are "Breakfast In Bed" and "Too Much Is Not Enough"; added are the live recordings of "Anya" and "Smoke On The Water".

This means that the set includes 6 of the 9 tracks from the "Come Hell Or High Water" album; omitted are "Anyone's Daughter", "A Twist In The Tale" and "Black Night".

The packaging is very simple: 3 jewel cases, held together by a slipcase; each CD contains the licensing info, but no liner notes, no lyrics, no pictures. Very basic indeed.

Strangely enough, there's enough "space" left on the discs so that all 4 albums in their entirety could have fitted on the 3 discs; instead, we're "short changed" by about 1 hour of remaining tracks.

You'll have to decide for yourself whether to pick up the 4 albums separately, or pick this up for roughly the price of a single disc!

He's sold millions of albums, filled arenas, and hobnobbed with George Harrison, Bob Dylan and Roy Orbison, but Tom Petty's driving heartland rock has often been taken for granted by the same critics who hail John Mellencamp as a genius. Greatest Hits is an airtight argument for Petty's own greatness. Starting with "American Girl," the rollicking, Byrds-inspired single from Petty's first album in 1976, this compilation presents a chronological overview of the guitarist-vocalist's career with and without the Heartbreakers, also chronically underrated as one of today's best bands. Every one of the 16 older tracks is a well-crafted gem, full of solid guitar hooks ("Here Comes My Girl"), arresting images ("Don't Come Around Here No More") and simple but poetic lyrics ("The Waiting"). Petty isn't an innovator; he's a talented craftsman with impeccable taste and a strong sense of rock history, internalizing influences ranging from the Beatles' psychedelic masterpiece, Revolver, to the best of '70s punk. (It's interesting to remember that early efforts such as "Refugee" and "Don't Do Me Like That" first won Petty attention as a New Wave artist). With his Dylanesque vocals and chiming 12-string guitars, Petty is more often linked these days with the sounds of the '60s. But recent tunes such as "Learning to Fly" and "Into the Great Wide Open" are as smart, relevant and (dare I say) alternative as anything in MTV's Buzz Bin. --Jim DeRogatis

Best version of Cinnamon Girl on the Planet still!
Everyone is always trying to new and improve everything. I've heard a few musicians try to redo my favorite Neil Young song, Cinnamon Girl and nobody comes close to the original version. Again, there are moments in time that come together like magic with just the right chemistry and can never be repeated or improved upon. This entire album stands the test of time, simply a master piece.

Needle and the Damage Done - Neil Young cover "The Needle and the Damage Done" is a song by Neil Young that chronicles the descent of musicians he knew into heroin addiction. It was written about the heroin use of (but before the overdose death of) his Crazy Horse guitarist Danny Whitten, and previews the theme of "Tonight's the Night," a song that addresses the heroin overdose and death of Bruce Berry, a roadie for Young and his band Crazy Horse. "The Needle and the Damage Done" first appeared on the Harvest album in 1972. The song was recorded live rather than in the studio. It appears on the compilation albums Decade and Greatest Hits. On the handwritten liner notes included in Decade, Young had this to say about the song: "I am not a preacher, but drugs killed a lot of great men." A recording from 1971 was part of the 2007 album Live at Massey Hall. The album captured Neil's introduction of his song thus: Ever since I left Canada, about five years ago or so.. and moved down south.. found out a lot of things that I didn't know when I left. Some of 'em are good, and some of 'em are bad. Got to see a lot of great musicians before they happened... before they became famous.. y'know, when they were just gigging. Five and six sets a night... things like that. And I got to see a lot of, um , great musicians who nobody ever got to see. For one reason or another. But.. strangely enough, the real good ones... that you never got to see was.. 'cause of, ahhm, heroin. An' that started happening over an' over. Then it happened to someone that everyone knew about. So I just wrote a little song." Bands that covered this song on studio albums include Our Lady Peace, Green River, Duran Duran, Lior, and The Pretenders; the Pretenders lost members to drug-related deaths. Punk rock band The Bronx recorded a cover which can be found as a b-side on the "False Alarm" single. Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante has covered it while on tour in Japan. Alternative metal band Seether covered it during a performance on Last Call with Carson Daly. Cross Canadian Ragweed also covered this song on their 2006 release Back To Tulsa - Live and Loud at Cain's Ballroom. [edit] References in Popular Culture A reference to its title can be found in the song "Understanding in a Car Crash" by Thursday. The title was also used as the album title for the second installment of the Nirvana: Outcesticide bootleg series. Furthermore, it was the inspiration for The Sisters of Mercy's first 7" single, "The Damage Done". "Song To Say Goodbye" by the group Placebo includes the lyrical reference "your needle and your damage done". Episode seven of the fifth season of Will & Grace was titled "The Needle & Omelet's Done". In the episode, Will gets botox for the first time (hence the needle). Grace goes to brunch with her boyfriend, during which she unwittingly meets his parents (hence the omelet).

This is a budget title and it sounds great. If you want to find out what the Jefferson Airplane was all about pick this up. There isn't a bad song here, and in fact listen closely and you will hear some of the best poetry of the sixties. Marty Balin and Grace Slick shine here and as I said earlier the sound quality is very good. What are you waiting for, get this and find out why the music of the late sixties blows Christina, Brittny, and Justin out the water.

Perfect companion to Weight
Released in 2004 on Henry Rollins' own label 2.13.61 records, Weighting expands on the Rollins Band's best album, Weight, with several live tracks originally performed on that album as well as several unreleased tracks. The five live songs are all great, with the best being "Volume 4", "Divine Object of Hatred", and an extended version of "Liar", where he changes up the lyrics to rip on the crowd, much to their delight. As for the studio tracks, most of them are top notch as well. The heavy groove of "Fall Guy", which originally appeared on the Tales of the Crypt: Demon Knight soundtrack, the relentless "I See Through", and the intense "Right Here Too Much" are all great tunes that would have fit in just fine on Weight. The remaining four tracks mix the Rollins Band's heavy groove with free jazz. Surprisingly, this works best on the longer tracks. On "Miles Jam #2", Chris Haskett's guitar work, much of which here is long drawn out notes and feedback, and Charles Gayle's sax lend a great accompaniment to Henry's long drawn out rant. "Jam #1" is very moody, building and dropping in momentum throughout, and is always intriguing. The remaining tracks, "Plague #3" and "Night Sweat" don't work nearly as well, occasionally sounding like a cavalcade of noise when Gayle's sax work drowns out the rest of the band. Groundbreaking...
Brian Eno seemed so nerdy and techno and so unlikely as a member of Roxy Music in support of tuxedo clad Brian Ferry. Then he stepped out on his own with releases like this and "Taking Tiger Mountain." For those who know him later as the composer of minimalist instrumental material, this will come as a surprise. "I'll Come Running," for example, is pop tune heaven. Great marriage of the dawning technology of the age and plain old hummable pop music.

Probably have purchased this recording 4 times in my life. A MUST HAVE...

Sounds like the genesis of the My Life in The Bush Of Ghosts recording with David Byrne, or the Talking Heads, at times (which happened not long after, produced by B Eno) on King's Lead Hat....

Phil Collins makes a couple appearances, doing excellent drumming.

Mellow, sublime moments as well, (Here He Comes, Julie With...., The Spider and I) along with the Herky-Jerky tunes, which all were a major part of the Early Ambient Electronic movement.

Great Songs, Terrible Sound Quality
As unfortunately is the case with many CDs these days, this CD has been remastered so loud using dynamic range compression that your ears will get tired within 2-3 songs. In their quest to push the loudness of the CD, they made it sound terrible by taking out all of the dynamics of the original sound. Sure, it's louder, but the volume on the drums and certain other parts of the mix that used to stand out in the mix because they were louder have been clipped and the volume on the softer parts boosted so now everything is just loud white noise. It is unlistenable. DO NOT BUY!

Good collection of miscellaneous songs
I tend to like No Doubt's odd collections, like BEACON STREET and EVERYTHING IN TIME, because the songs that are left off the albums (or done on the side or, in the case of BEACON STREET, recorded while waiting for other things to happen) are less slick pop and closer to their first album. I was a big fan of theirs before they were famous, when I was in high school, and tend to prefer their more ska and power-pop songs.

"Cellophane Boy," "I Throw My Toys Around," "Big Distraction," and "Full Circle" are the primary attractions of this CD.

best rock album out of Detroit in ages
Zug Izland is mostly known for their association with Psychopathic Records and ICP; however, their potential can extend much farther than the artists now currently at Psychopathic could ever imagine. why? because they've got it tight like dreadlocks with WRIF (Detroit's most popular rock station, maybe the most popular in the country), and they have one of the most unique sounds i've ever heard from a rock band.

this CD offers a great follow-up to Cracked Tiles, and shows that they are more than just another Psychopathic act. With emotional connective ballads such as "You" and "Feel", it shows that Syn and the boys have a soft side to them that a Cracked Tiles fan would not expect. No song on this CD sounds remotely like any on Cracked Tiles...IT SOUND BETTER, and it still has that fresh from the oven toxic rock feel to it. I don't bash Juggalos, because a fan base always has to start somewhere, and it's a good one, but this band could easily step out of the shadows of ICP and be Detroit's next big thing! whatchu know about that 3:33 son!

Absolutely love 80% of it. Favorites are 5:15 AM, Boom, like that, Song for Sonny Liston, Postcards from Paraguay and Don't crash the ambulance. Could do without the slower pieces, but I can listen to the whole CD once a day. So glad he does what he does. One CD every 18 months. Please keep it going, Mark. Would love to hear you do an entire CD with spanish guitar. Seems like you've mellowed over time and written better story songs, but your guitar riffs are what bring tears to my eyes. Wife is now a big fan and I'm working on the kids. They love your stuff too.

Great Music, Horrible Remaster
The reason this CD sounds so poor is because it was poorly remastered. The original LP tapes were used because the person who remastered it was too lazy to find the best quality sources for each track like they did with the DVD. So what they did was to use an old LP master, and they bathed it in so much hiss reduction, everything sounds like it's underwater! This might be one of the worst sounding CD's I've ever heard and it's NOT because of the nature of the original recordings. It's because of a poor remastering job!

Transcendental New album by local singer-songwriter plumbs lives of hard-pressed rural folk trying to get higher Stephen Simmons titled his new album Last Call (Locke Creek Records) because many of his characters have heard those words in two places: at closing time in nightclubs, when, as in the title track, a bartender calls out "last call for all you sinners"; and at the end of church, when the preacher makes the same plea. What Simmons does so wellwith songs like "Baptism," "Sweet Salvation," "Dirty Side of Me" and "Forgive Me Father"is portray individuals in search of transcendence but caught in internal conflict. He's also good at depicting how one bad choice, or a series of them, can bring down all the good that came before it. A native of Woodbury, Tenn., Simmons was raised in a Church of Christ family of factory workers and farmers, and he draws on that background to examine the moral conflicts of impoverished country folk torn between their religious upbringing and carnal impulses. Last Call balances gentle acoustic arrangments with rough-edged, guitar-driven roots rockers. Produced by Eric Fritsch, these songs are built around the sensitive rhythm section of bassist Dave Jacques and drummer (and Scene contributor) Paul Griffith, augmented by esteemed accompanists like steel player Paul Niehaus, guitarists Kenny Vaughn and Mike McAdam, and harmony singer Wendy Newcomer. These outstanding musicians prove their worth by how unobtrusively they add to Simmons' songs. Nevertheless, it's the stories that stick, such as the bored young pranksters who bedevil a farmer until violence changes all of their lives, and the state trooper who ignores some childhood friends who cook up crystal meth in an out-of-the-way trailer, only to find his teen son O.D.'d on their product. At his best, Simmons is as good as heartland songwriters like Steve Earle, Robert Earl Keen, Chris Knight and R.B. If you buys this cd expecting the blues style on Kenny you will not be pleased, but if you also like pure rock you will be pleased. R E M "Around the Sun" Album Review

Nice enough, but missing more than just Bill Berry
The album is nice enough, but has the feeling of sameness from song to song. It needs a rocker or two and some of classic R.E.M.'s jangle. 'Leaving New York" and "Electron Blue" are good songs to kick off the album, and the rest of the record is very listenable, but unremarkable and a bit too cohessive. I just listened to it twice and thought it was good, not great, and in the past R.E.M. has been great. Here, they sound a bit tired - competent, but tired.

Hot Snakes "Audit in Progress" Album Review

Is this your first time?
Audit in Progress is a great cd it really is but for me when I bought this cd I actually thought it sucked and was pissed that I had purchased it. Automatic Midnight is one of the best cds of all time, every track on that cd is kill. I heard that and immediately ran out to the store in search of it only to find that Audit was the only one they had. I thought Hot Snakes would be Hot Snakes and awesome all around but oh was I wrong. As good as this cd is it's not their best..I didn't like it til I had listened to it through a few times and it finally grew on me. The lyrics don't seem real solid to me, kinda just like they threw em together last minute. The music itself though is top notch. The first half of the cd is great..in fact that's about all I usually listen to. So this one- well if you're a fan already then go for it. If not then you better set this one back on the shelf and grab AM. You won't regret it.

Sarah Brightman "The Harem World Tour live from Las Vegas" Album Review

AMAZING! She is so much better live!
This CD rocks! This is Sarah Brightman on her Harem World Tour, and this performance was recorded at her stop in Las Vegas. The first two tracks, "Kama Surta" and "Harem Overture" debut from her newest album, entitled HAREM. The two tracks are connected, but in the actual Harem Tour, the full piece "Harem" is sung. If you go to www.youtube.com and type in "Harem Tour" in the Search Bar, you can see live videos. I would prefer that the album has placed "Harem" instead of these other two tracks. The third track, "It's A Beautiful Day", is from Madame Butterfly, written by Puccini. This version is Brightman's twist, which some more pop and some English. It's pretty cool. The fourth track on the album, "Dust in the Wind" is from EDEN, an amazing album. Track 5 is, "Who Wants to Live Forever", and it seems as though Brightman never creates a tour without putting this piece in it. It's a beautiful tribute to Queen's rendition. Track Six is "Anytime, Anywhere", also from EDEN. I'm not really into the Foreign Language - English songs, but this works very well, especially because she ends the song with the classical foreign language. The seventh track is Brightman's rendition of Dvorak's "Song to the Moon", or "La Luna". The track is beautiful! The eighth track is Puccini's "Nessun Dorma", and Sarah masters this beautifully! There is no other soprano I know that can sing this piece one octave up and can hold the ending note for ever!!! Track 9 is "The War is Over", which is followed by "Free", both from HAREM. Track 11 is "A Whiter Shade of Pale", from LA LUNA. It's beautiful to listen to. Sarah's version is very gentle, but has a lot of energy in the chorus. The twelfth track on this album is "Twisted Every Way", followed by an instrumental version of "The Phantom of the Opera" Theme. The next track is "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again", which is extended at the end, in which you hear some men cry out "WE LOVE YOU SARAH!", and she responds cutely with an, "I love you, too." The audience laughs! Track 14 is "Time to Say Goodbye", the duet that made Andrea Bocelli famous, and skyrocketed as the number one single sold in German history! The last live track on the album is "A Question of Honour", from "Fly", which is awesome! The last track on the album is a bonus track, which I don't really prefer. However, the whole album is simply amazing. I much prefer Sarah when she is live. She has a more magical quality! If you love Sarah Brightman, then you will love this album.

ALSO RECOMMENDED : Since there is so much Sarah Brightman to choose from, I also recommend EDEN, TIME TO SAY GOODBYE, LA LUNA, CLASSICS, and DIVA.

The Go "Betweens" Album Review

Simplicity+Melody= Fantastic!
I'd read about this album in the British music press. Critics hailed this effort and subsequently added it to their "Best of 2005" lists. I didn't know what to make of this band. Then, I saw that they were on the "Left of the Dial" box set. My interest was substantially elevated at that point. Then, while shopping for CDs one day, I spotted this album in the bargain bin. I snatched it up to see whether it was up the hype.

Synopsis: The first song, "Here Comes a City," effectively grabs you by the collar and never lets go. Sure, its got that line about Dostoyevsky that seems to define the wonderful lyrics that embody the album, but its got much more. It's got drive and a kick, and its an opener that's up there with the rest of them. Naturally, it raises the bar for the rest of the album.

The tracks wear on, and things work quite well. "Born To A Family" exemplifies the band's adept use of melodies and simplicity. "Born to a family, a family of workers" may not seem like the grandest line ever, but the way its executed ensures that it'll turn into an earworm of the most mirthful sort. To me, it's a highlight. Others may not agree, but oh well; I like it.

More songs. A few of the tracks in the middle, as some have suggested below, are muddled by the mastering. Indeed. The compression tends to hurt songs by rendering them overloud and distorted. Again: It doesn't kill the song , but it makes things slightly less pleasant.

Then we hit some more winners. "Darlinghurst Nights" begins in a slow, unassuming manner. Although the tempo doesn't exactly explode over the course of the song, new elements slowly pop into the mix. First we get a rather funky guitar that gives the understated track a bit of a groove. By the latter half of the song, the horns come in. By the time the track ends, its been completely warped by all these additions. It doesn't hurt that the song itself was pretty good to begin with.

"Lavender" begins with a bit of a sproing, since the drum machine that kicks off the track is not of the monotonous bomp-tshk-bomp-tshk kind. Then, out of nowhere, the guitar pops up. It's got a bit of a country flavour, and that creates a tasteful contrast with the synthesized rhythm. Afterwards, the lyrics come in and they're mighty fine (references to a gal that's good in bed, well read and thinks about Tazmania).

People seem to like "The Status" Personally, I didn't see anything grand about it. "This Night's For You," on the other hand, is fantastic. It's poppy to the max. Melodic, and with a bit of Beach Boys flair too. As the song wears on, there are moments when dirty chords are used to a stirring effect. Great track. And the closer, "The Mountains Near Dellray," is also at par with the rest of the album. It's got beats, a simple guitar and a great organ that provides stunning texture. It's definitely got a mood, that's for sure! The mellowness is confirmed as the song ends, leaving us with spacey outro that fades into nothingness/

The bonus disc of live tracks is just gravy, as far as I'm concerned. All the tracks are enjoyable, if not a bit too sparse. As far as bonus material goes, its rather delightful.

Overall, this album was quite pleasant and pleasing. The first time I listened to it, I was amazed at the sheer quantity of great melodies that inhabited this record's confines. The second time I listened to it, I was gripped by the way the simple instrumentation could create such a wonderful musical environment. Beautiful stuff, and definitely worth purchasing by fans of well-crafted music.

Very Important Recordings
Although it has been said that Richard *Rocked* in Clubs in the early '50s his recordings on RCA and Peacock from that era are more in the melancholy slow blues and swingin' fast blues tradition of the 1940s. It seems that record companies were not yet ready for the pioneering sound of "Long Tall Sally". But just because tracks like "Get Rich Quick", "Ain't Nothin' Happening", "Taxi Blues" have only a hint of what to come, that doesn't mean they do not represent an amazing new talent on the scene, singer-songwriter-showman Little Richard. Despite the obvious echoes of Roy Brown, Billy Wright, etc., you can hear a joyful tenor singing circles around any "influences", and on "Little Richard's Boogie" you can hear a funky piano leaving the other instrumentalists breathless. A big selling point are the early incarnations of Specialty Classics like "Directly From My Heart You" (released and alternate). This blues-based number was recalled by Mr. Penniman in late '65 for Modern Records, as well. [Look for the 45rpm version]. With the seemingly weekly release of unissued Elvis Presley, plus a decent number of rarities out there by other Rock and Roll Hall of Famers, this highly under-represented artist has (apparently) only his '50s material in "previously unreleased" form. This CD may cry out for '60s and '70s companions but more than stands alone. Well, Allright!

Poor background vocals
I also enjoyed the song "Ran Out Of West" but generally this cd is not really representative of Nick's niteclub sound. I really thought that the female background vocals and the horns got in the way of Nick's tough blues. I also thought the background vocals were horrible on "Get Too Together" and "Highway 1". "Don't Feed The Animals" is a much better example of Nick's sound.

If you like to go back in time, this is it.
I was lucky to see this group in concert this summer. That wasn't enough for me, as I had to buy their CD as well. It took me back to my high school years. I'm 57 but still enjoy reliving the music of my yester years. It's a real joy to go back and listen to the music I grew up with and not just once but over and over. My daughter gets a kick out listening to what I grew up with and even asks to borrow some of my CD's from my high school days. I have bought others from back then, as the music is so different from what you hear now and I am enjoying the memories from when I was in my teens.

Decent late '90's effort by the band,which at the time included Brock,Ron Tree,drummer Richard Chadwick and new(at the time)guitarist Jerry Richards.Believe me,Richards fits in rather well with Hawkwind.'Distant Horizons' is their follow-up to their 'Alien 4' disc(see my review).Remember I had a tough time getting a copy of this CD.More in the direction of hard rock perhaps than 'space rock' but 'Distant...' does have it's moments.Like the gem "Phetamine Street",the semi-heavy "Alchemy","Reptoid Vision","Wheels"(sounds good live,heard a bootleg of a US show with this track)and the techno-like "Taxi For Max".Good,just not great.

Ok. I was a huge fan of the first CD and the second album was not too bad. After that, the band seems to have lost something. I miss the Country Rock influences of Jim Fish on guitar in particular. Plus his background vocals seem better in my opinion. They just didn't seem the same with out him. I just couldn't get into this album. It was the last Henry Paul Band album I listened to!

Bryan Adams "Room Service" Album Review

Grows on you
While not an instant classic, Room Service grows on you like other BA albums haven't. Usually instantly likeable his other albums contained all the elements great rock albums need. Most of these elements are pulled back or non existant on this album - a refreshing change. Don't get me wrong, I love BA at his loudest and rockiest as much as anyone, but Room Service is the change that we needed.

The album, for some reason, was released in 2004 in Australia - a year before the US. I got this that same day as Greenday's American Idiot and I must say, for that reason it didn't get the instant airplay it deserved. AI is a gem right from the go, where this one took more time to get into.

The melodies aren't in your face, the subject matter is at times depressing but it's classy work from a man that rarely misfires. There's only one track that reaches the 4 miniute mark (only just at 4:04). There's no "Whoa!'s", "Yeah!'s" or "C'Mon!'s". There's smooth (yet gravelly) vocals, unobtrusive guitar solos and straight forward arrangements. It's all still familiar though. To compare it's probably mostly like Into The Fire - in cover also.

For me, Waking Up The Neighbours was BA's peak. The follow up, 18 Till I Die, while great, wasn't loud enough and On A Day Like Today, while also great, had too many fillers. Room Service is short - a touch under 37 minutes - and while not solid throughout, there's enough classics to keep a high standard as with all his releases since You Want It, You got It.

Best tracks:
The opener, East Side Story on first listen is a stand out and remains one. You can imagine yourself sitting in that cafe and seeing that girl getting on that bus.
Open Road, the first single is a nice rocker in the vein of Run To You. Standard stuff but catchy.
I Was Only Dreamin' is the standout track for me. Sad and melodic the only track to feature orchestral work.
Nowhere Fast is a great track. Nice slow rocker, almost the best track on the album.
Right Back Where I Started From is the best of the four faster paced tracks. Classic BA.
She's A Little Too Good For Me is a nice rocker. Reminds me of She's Only Happy When She's Dancing.

Room Service and Why Do You Have To Be So Hard To Love are good tracks without rising to greatness like the above ones.
The other three tracks; Flying, Not Romeo, Not Juliet and This Side Of Paradise while lyrically good, are nice but don't have much bite to them.

Well worth a listen. If you're not a fan (then you probably won't be reading this) give it a try and you might be surprised. There's nothing sappy here, no lovey-dovely love songs to gross you out.

Tom Waits "Real Gone" Album Review

NOISE! ...WONDERFUL NOISE!!!
This is a real treat among Tom Waits albums. Directed primarily towards the loud and frenzic style of Tom Waits, with maybe one or two tender moments for good measure. This is the one to crank up insanely loud to get the demons out of your brain... and the one that I jumped out of my seat for upon it's release a few years back.
I saw then a lot of pan for this album amongst Waits fans, but I think the album is as good as any other classic Waits. The songs no doubtedly get a lot more course and rocky as the years go by. But TW always finds away to make 'em work, and what time was better to make the one that us kids were waiting for. Bang your head music, up and down a wall, with a sh*@ eating grin on your face from ear to ear. TOP OF THE HILL or HOIST THAT RAG make good examples just because they come first, but every song works toward it's goal. Delivering what is sometimes just insanity, but always coupled with a good hook and catchy melodies. A few in the mix help the style vary, with some common Tom Waits imagery, in songs such as the darkly beautiful DEAD AND LOVELY. And there are plenty of good old fashioned rhythym section shake downs and such to go around too. This stuff just sparks some excitement into the duller darker days of life. A must have... Tom Waits is the shizzzzzit!

"My baby loves lovin'..."

Yes, I give this thumbs up; being generous cause I appreciate Rock 'n' Roll; I find this to be a well rounded collection of songs; some of my favorite collectables are those sorts of historic recordings, little known recordings, this is in that vein exactly.

Historic it is; but indeed, I believe this does not actually predate some other Elton John releases like "Empty Sky"; but rather recorded during the same time period, even after.

These are covers of top 40 songs; but Elton has an excellent groove in some of them worth the cost alone; others probably don't work as well, i.e. in other words, so funny, I was reading in one of the reviews for this release, Elton shouldn't ever sing John Fogerty, even in the shower as there are two CCR songs included in the songs, "Travelin' Band" and "Up around the bend" but the renditions of the Creedence songs are still novelties.

"Yellow River"; you know, I listen to it and think, that probably influenced Elton's sound and on some editions of this CD; leads off the collection.

"To be young gifted and black" well; this might be a Jamaican early reggae/ska type of song and Elton does it well.

Speaking of; this is a cool collection because these are a number of American top 40 songs; and it must reflect a view of what songs were played in London in the day; how about "Lady D'Arbanville", I don't know it originally but it does well.

"United we stand" is an excellent inspiring rendition of a sort of civil rights anthem; this collection really gets me moving.

Everyone is timid to give this a five star rating but I easily could and it certainly is at the lower price.

Mike and the Mechanics "Rewired" Album Review

While Mike + The Mechanics reinvent their sound, ultimately not a strong end product
It is hard to believe that it was some two decades ago when Mike + The Mechanics were formed. The group was considered a supergroup as it was formed as a side project by Genesis Guitar and Bass player Mike Rutherford and featured vocalists Paul Carrack (formerly of Squeeze) and Paul Young (formerly of Sad Cafe). This side project would lead to commercial and critical success in the 1980s, but in the 1990s, their commercial sales would decline. By the time their fifth studio album "Mike + The Mechanics - M6" was released, it would only be available as an import and not distributed on a U.S. label. The 1990s also saw Mike + The Mechanics go through lineup changes, but the nucleus of Rutherford, Carrack, and Young would continue to be maintained. At the same time, the band continued to produce high quality albums. When 2001 came along, the nucleus of Mike + The Mechanics would be disrupted when Paul Young would pass away unexpectedly. For the first time, the band would be without one of their co-lead vocalists. To the credit, Rutherford and Carrack would carry on and release another album in 2004 - "Rewired". Since Rutherford and Carrack would be the only members of the nucleus left, the album would be released under the banner of "Mike + The Mechanics + Paul Carrack". The title of the album is very appropriate. Not only did the band need to "rewire" themselves following Young's death, but they also rewired their sound. I give the band a lot of credit a lot of credit for getting back together and reinventing their sound. I wish I could say that the end product was up to the high standards that were previously delivered by the band - unfortunately I cannot.

The loss of Young was an enormous blow to the band. Much of the unique appeal of Mike + The Mechanics is the two headed vocal approach that Carrack and Young bring to the table. I always felt that Carrack focused on delivering the intense vocals while Young focused on the passionate vocals. Now without Young, the band made the decision to carry on with just Carrack. To some extent I question the move of not bringing in another vocalist, but I can understand that it would be very difficult to replace Young.

The big change is that Mike + The Mechanics introduce a Synthesizer-laden keyboard and mix it with a lot of Adult-Contemporary-styled songs. Today, much of the new music is falling into a cookie-cutter style guitar-laden sound (just ask Bryan Adams, even his "Room Service" album falls into this category). In fact, I give Mike + The Mechanics a lot of credit for doing this because they weren't afraid to move away from the norm and do something different. However the end product just wasn't all that interesting. I think a lot of this has to do with the fact that you don't have those passionate Paul Young vocals that became a Mike + The Mechanics staple. But on top of that, even Paul Carrack's vocals lack the three-dimensional intensity that existed on previous works. The move toward this Techno sound should not be a complete surprise. There were hints of this on the "M6" album (just listen to the sound "Now That You've Gone").

From a personnel standpoint, it is worth noting that longtime Mechanics drummer Peter Van Hooke is back (after an absence from the "M6" album). Van Hooke also helped co-produce the album with Rutherford. Rutherford and Carrack contribute songwriting on all nine tracks. Longtime Mechanics songwriter B.A. Robertson contributes to the songwriting on three tracks. Despite this strong "Original Mechanics" nucleus, things still don't pan out. I think the big problem is that the album, while not a bad album just didn't have enough to hold my interest.

It is also worth noting that the band brings in a synthesizer programmer in Will Bates. Bates contributes to songwriting on two instrumental tracks "Rewired" (limited vocals) and "Underscore". Instrumental tracks are not exactly a staple of this band, but perhaps without Young's presence, it made sense to go in this direction. These are probably the most "Techno" sounding songs on the collection. The song "Rewired" does have some limited vocals. "Underscore" is the better of the two tracks - it has the passion and intensity that is lacked in the vocals. The techo sound isn't limited to these tracks, but tracks like "One Left Standing", Falling", and "I Don't Want It All" will also have this influence. Even the track "How Can I?" which starts out with a more classic sound will have the techno influence.

The other place where things change are the higher dependence of background vocals. Songs such as "One Left Standing", "If I Were You", and "Perfect Child" demonstrate this use of the background vocals.

Perhaps the best strong from a lyrical standpoint is "Perfect Child". This song has a lot of the emotional feel that "The Living Years" had. It has an adult-contemporary sound to it. The song deals with the emotions one has in wanting to bring a child into this world. "I want a perfect child; to live a perfect life in this world...They say when we have children; It changes how we live". This is a great song with Carrack showing his best stuff. Where was this song on the adult-contemporary radio playlists? This is really good stuff and deserved to be heard by the general public.

The liner notes include all of the lyrics and songwriting credits. It also lists the musicians. I personally would have liked to have seen something as a tribute to Paul Young. Overall, I think I have to give "Rewired" an "A" for effort, but more like a B- for overall music. The band should be applauded for carrying on and making a change in direction, but ultimately they need to be judged by how strong the end product is.

Doro "Let Love Rain on Me" Album Review

And now for something completely different
There are times in the career of Doro where she could be reasonably accused of bandwagon jumping. Firstly there was her album Machine II Machine which was overtly electronic and industrial sounding and actually there was a remix of it called the 'electric club mix' way back in the mid 90's. Now we find the metal heroine putting out classical music versions of some metal standards? OK, I'll admit I was pretty sceptical.

The reason to be for this release is the lead song which the punter gets to listen to in three different languages. Which was certainly interesting, even for my ears (which only speak one language if you get my meaning). So while the value of these tracks was personally a bit limited, it was at least something fun perhaps for the artist to try and for her fans.

For my mind where this release scores it's three stars is the utterly weird feeling you get when you hear the rest of the EP. I mean the woman has done Judas Priests 'Breaking the Law' with classical backing and it actually almost works. I say almost as a compliment because I'd never have believed that it could come even this close to coming off.

Then there is the old Warlock standard of I Rule the Ruins which also sounds pretty darn cool. Now this ain't gonna get everyone bopping along, in fact some might hate it. But the fact is that this is so different that it's quite an interesting little recorded document. And the track does have powerful use of strings.

The bonus video track adds a bit of value for fans.

Not an important or necessary release, but this is really an interesting/intriguing bunch of toons and is worth a listen for even the casual Doro fan.

Having heard one of the sharpest guitar hooks EVER in Kill Bill, Volume Whatever, I thought it would be worthwhile to buy this CD and go through the myriad of geek hoops to avoid copy-protection Hades to get in on my computer. Dude, save your money and just get the Kill Bill soundtrack. The rest of this CD is just 80s-awful. Completely beyond comprehension.

The Presidents of the United States of America "Love Everybody" Album Review

Great to See Them Back but the Album Seems a Bit Rushed!
The President of the United States are definitely one of the most unique sounding bands out there and that unique style is more than recognisable on this album. However the quality of these songs is not up there with the original albums they had before their retirement. It is almost like they have been enticed to come out of retirement and written these songs in a couple of days to get an out of retirement album out there in the market place. I can't see them having a big hit off this album but the songs do grow on you a little bit after a few plays. Great to see them back, a lot of the original fans like me will buy this just to hear something new from them but they'll have to put a bit more effort into their next album to attract new fans and survive.

Great tunes, but an odd selection for an introduction...
"For Beginners" is a compilation of material from Killing Joke's EMI catalog. I think like any sort of introduction to the band, the faithful (such as myself) will have complaints about what was included, what wasn't, etc., and such arguements are quite honestly difficult. In this case though, there may be a point to those arguments.

It looks as though they were concerned with even distribution-- two songs were pulled from each album on EG (i.e. "Outside the Gate" and earlier), with a third one from "Brighter Than a Thousand Suns", this evenness gets in the way of the track selection-- I think most folks in trying to introduce the band would emphasize their first two records and "Night Time", but regardless of that, teh track selection-- "Primitive" instead of "Wardance" or "Requiem" (I can understand "The Wait" what with Metallica covering it.....), "Butcher" instead of "Unspeakable", "Chapter III" over "Empire Song"... the list can go on.

If you're new to the band, this could be an interesting introduction, but I think I'd recommend getting "Laugh? I Nearly Bought One!" instead, which reaches one album further and has a much superior track selection.

Of course, if you're a collector, there's some reason for this-- the sound quality is much better, there's a few alternate mixes (including the drum obsessed version of "We Have Joy" and a much more in-your-face "Harlequin", though that could be remastering talking), but for anyone else, look elsewhere for an intro.

they are back. after a disapointing,very unstructured album/"OPEN"

made them quasi-famous. top notch,tight musicianship and crisp recording
of a very good set of angular electric musings and thoughtful lyrics.
"A DUSTY SIMPLE MINDED PIECE OF FICTION. STRANGE AND ODD,TWISTED AS A
CONTRADICTION, A GLITTERING JEWEL OF FLAWS AND CELEBRATION"/ song: WHY THIS ONE. there are a very few weaker tracks that I personally find myself skipping over "JESUS,SWEET JESUS,CAN YOU PASS ME TO YOUR PA?"
but overall this is a very solid effort from a very solid Canadian/American band.
I am very gratified to see these folks come back this strongly.

Takes longer to sink in, but it sticks
Unlike the debut ep, Basic Instructions, and the lp, Chat & Business, this second full-length player (a bit short, not much over half an hour) is darker-hued, with a bit more ambiance, keyboards, and less songs featuring frenetic guitar. I do wish the female vocals were promoted more in the mix, as the male singer's serviceable but not a distinguished, attention-getting sort of voice as delivered here. The feel of the album is more distant at first, and it took me a few listens to warm up more to this Ikara Colt product. The production lacks warmth, and while this does fit the mood of a very quickly-paced album, it does require attention, for it's a mature and confident, if sullen, post-punk effort.

Indigo Swing "Red Light" Album Review

Picked it up on a whim
This has to be the best cd I've ever bought on a whim. I found it in the clearance section of a local electronics store and I haven't looked back since. The vocals are wonderful and perfect for style of music. The lyrics are humorous and tongue in cheek. While it is not as fast paced as most of your Swing-comeback bands it more than holds it's own. I would recommend this cd for any swing lover. The highest praise I can give is that this album still pretty often finds it's way into my cd player.

My only issue is that the band has since broken up and I can not expect any new cds. Why they broke up such an amazing group of musicians that compliment each other so well I have no idea.

I have been slowly discovering Marc Almond's solo stuff bit by bit....I was not ready for the brilliance of this recording. Who would know that he was capable of such an incredible release. I recommend his autobiography "Tainted Life" - it gives eye popping background to his recordings....I just had to add my 5 stars to this because quite simply it is a great record.
The last cut, "The River" is perhaps a masterpiece. The whole experience is lush and gorgeous - you don't even need a cocktail or a joint to fly away with this joyeaux collection of real, true music. THANK YOU MARC! I LOVE YOU!

Enjoyable and slightly darker themes than Her popular debut showcased. 3.94 stars.,
I really, really loved this CD once it hit store shelves back in May 2004. I still feel the same about it, really. It's kinda surprising.

*** Take Me Away...is one of Her most angst-ridden recordings, but it's OK I guess. Just don't plan on putting it on repeat.

Brian Eno has quietly been one of the most influential pop stars of the century.. The brains behind some of the biggest movements in 70's, 80's,90's and current popular music - Eno does not get half the credit he deserves and is kind of in the shadow of glam stars such as David Bowie..

Here come the Warm Jets was his first solo attempt after leaving the popular 70's group roxy music.. It is one of his best albums and shows a very experimental and yet highly accessible stage in his career..
Laced with bizzare lyrics and even stranger electronic instrumental moments, Here come the warm Jets is one of the most original experiences of 70's glam.. with songs like baby's on fire and needles in the camels eye - eno proved there was life after roxy music..

I would highly recommend this album along with the first 2 roxy albums as a fine introduction to the early stages of his career.. After that you might want to check out his work with David Bowie and the classic talking heads albums he helped to produce.

Quite fantastic...
I recently recieved this as an Easter gift. The format that Amazon descibes isn't exactly correct. They say this is live, when the CD is not, but the DVD is. I have owned 4 copies of this disc since it came out in '01, because I played them to death. This is absolutely worth the money. Plus, if you're an Alice In Chains fan there is a little bonus. On the live DVD, Nickelback+Jerry Cantrell perform "It Ain't Like That", a song off of Alice In Chain's "Facelift". I highly recommend this live DVD+CD set, it's one of the best.

Cream rises to the top
I see alot of swipes being taken at the album "So Tough" and to be honest it is a great offering. At this point of their career the hits were not coming because FM radio had changed the landscape of what sold in America and Brian Wilson was lost in a drug induced state of melancholy bliss in search of his masterpeice."So Tough" came on the heels of "Surfs Up" which restablished The Beach Boys but as the title implies it was "So Tough" to move on without their creative muse and visionary Brian Wilson. Like Pink Floyd who moved on without Syd Barret The Beach Boys moved on without Brian Wilson to create a recording with contractions of what was to come on "Holland". Tracks 7 and 8 of "So Tough" sound very much in the vein of "Holland" and it led to that album. "Holland" may be the cream of both of these recordings, but it never would have seen the creative light of day if it wasn't for the growing pains and experimentation of Carl and the Passions/So Tough. It is a gem,not to be overlooked but to be valued as a blue print for other Beach Boy albums to follow.

"Kick me like you kicked before..."
A rock `n' roll masterpiece if there ever was one, Exile On Main Street is a raw, nervy double shot of ragged musical goodness. Like Chuck Berry before them, the `Stones have distilled rock `n' roll to its glorious essence, serving up track after brilliant track of wild, edgy, evocative, and cathartic music. It's a gorgeous alchemy of blues, country, rockabilly, soul, and gospel, performed with the kind of beat-down mud caked boogie rock savantism that made the Rolling Stones' music so great in the first place. People who complain about this set's lack of standout songs have obviously never listened to "Rocks Off," "Rip This Joint," "Shake Your Hips," "Casino Boogie," "Tumbling Dice," "Sweet Virginia," "Torn & Frayed," "Sweet Black Angel," "Loving Cup," "Happy," Turd On The Run," "Ventilator Blues," "I Just Want To See His Face," "Let It Loose," "All Down The Line," "Stop Breaking Down," "Shine A Light," or "Soul Survivor." Not while they were in the right kind of mood, anyway. Highlights include all of the aforementioned tracks plus... well, that's the whole album, isn't it? This is pure sweaty, paranoid genius, and one of the greatest albums in history. Buy it.

In 1975 kwam de verzamel LP "Rolled Gold" uit, het album bevatte 28 tracks met de beste hits uit de eerste 10 jaar van de Rolling Stones. Nu 32 jaar later komt deze Lp uit op CD aangevuld met 12 tracks uit dezelfde periode. Deze 2CD (met maar liefst 40 tracks) komt uit in een standaard Super Jewel Case en als Limited Edition in een Jakebox pop-up verpakking. Nothing wrong at all with this. I hope history is kind to Guided By Voices. Because this album is nothing short of amazing. I think the only thing that kept Guided By Voices from superstardom (or Semisuperstardom) was A--lack of proper promotion (wheres the damn billboard? You know what, I wouldnt mind hearing some GBV hocking some Target store bulls99t) People need to hear this!....and B. artistic integrity. How can you market Pollards lyrics? You Cant! "please refer to the wedding cake" and all of the lyrics to all the other GBV songs. They are too emotionally invested in something--no one has quite figured it out. But they strike some kind of chord....at least for me and alot of other people--

Guided By Voices was The Who and The Beatles for me (I love both bands but they didnt exist in the current moment--no way to anticipate the release of WHOS NEXT if you werent born yet!). This album, no matter how melancholy and far removed from the original incarnation of Guided By Voices it is--is awesome. Any naysayers need not submit for they not know not what they are saying and I feel bad for em.

Brian Eno "Taking Tiger Mountain (by Strategy)" Album Review

The Jellyfish Kiss
Remaking a famous album, note-for note? Sounds tedious in the extreme, no? Well, it's not -- for two very good reasons. First and foremost, this is Eno we're talking about, and his music has become part of the lives of millions of us. His music is crying out for re-examination, re-evaluation and re-integration.

Second, that's pretty much what Hilsinger & Beatty provide -- although this is a faithful note-for-note recreation, the instrumentation is changed around substantially, some of the moods are markedly different, and the drumming has a harder edge, bringing the 1974 masterpiece into an up-to-the-minute sound. Eno is reborn as indy rock circa 2004, and it serves the material well, very well indeed.

Maybe this is the first* of a series of re-examinations of Eno's body of work. Maybe he will get his due among younger musicians who speak the languages he developed without knowing the founder. Maybe Hilsinger & Beatty will go on to remake the other three classic song-oriented albums. Maybe somebody will will be turned onto Brian's work through this release. Hey, we can hope.

* - Technically this may be the THIRD re-examination I suppose, if you consider Bang on a Can's "Music for Airports" and Arturo Stalteri's "coolAugustMoon."

It don't come easy
Ringo is just okay in this endeavor unless you think he is wonderful regardless of his feeble attempts to recreate the magic of George, Paul and John. I am not saying that he is bad, just that he falls far short of the solo efforts of the other three. And, unless you are a fanatical Ringo fan, save your money and skip the enhanced DVD version as the DVD is lame. There is is nothing stirring on this album and you can better spend your money on George Harrison's All Things Must Pass, or any of the many Beatles albums.

Zwan "Mary Star of the Sea" Album Review

A modest success, but don't expect former glory
After the collapse of Smashing Pumpkins, the Corgan void was immediate. Because for all his failings as a songwriter, singer and willing voice of a generation, Billy did earn a lot of his respect and admiration (two masterpieces, another pair of really good albums). Zwan wants to be a cheerier version of the Pumpkins, like Corgan feels a need to prove to the world that he's not depressed to be out of one of the 90s best bands. In fact, Corgan is so blissfully earnest here that it's hard to take him all that seriously. Did he forget he was one of the poster boys for angst in the last decade? Even the musically strong "Baby Let's Rock" suffers from weak lyrics (and a thoroughly goofy title).

The big moments seem to falter the most. The dramatic build-up on "Declarations of Faith" ultimately collapses and the epic "Jesus, I" (another lousy track name) is lumbering and grating, a far cry from the marathon mini-masterpieces Corgan could create during the Pumpkins heyday. Luckily, early winners like "Lyric," "Settle Down," and first single, "Honestly" puts the listener in a good place in time for the letdown to strike. There's nothing necessarily bad here (like the worst elements of MACHINA) but mediocrity dominates far too much to give it more than a passable recommendation.

So we miss Master D, but ADF's new album is outstanding. Musically, they're as curious and adventurous as ever. Lyrically, they've grown up some, still polemic, still anthemic, but their slogans have more bite, more complexity now, the better able to comment on the changing political environment. As usual they have their fingers on the pulse of everything that touches the marginalized members of our world- asylum seekers, battered wives, mistreated prisoners, everyone gets a voice. Watch and learn, rage against the machine, this is how not to sell out.

Video Concierto ADF ¡se cayó la mesa!

El concierto se celebró en Salamanca el 9 de junio del 2006. Se enmarcó dentro de la programación del II Festival Internacional de las Artes de Castilla y León. El lugar donde se celebró fue la Plaza Mayor, dándole un realce incomparable. Actuaron como banda (no cómo Sound System), y aunque no estaba Dr.Das en el bajo ni Pandit G de DJ, ambos fueron sustituidos, mostrándose la formación en su número habitual y sin perder un ápice de intensidad. El público vibró disfrutando con la frescura y potencia de su jungle, drum&bass y hip hop, sin parar de moverse al ritmo de algunas de sus nuevas canciones (Hope, Tank, Oil y Take Back The Power entre otras) y los imprescindibles temas clásicos (Strong Culture, New Way New Life, Rise To The Challenge, Enemy Of The Enemy y Fortress Europe entre otros), para estallar en una tormenta de watios de luz y sonido con Flyover y Rebel Warrior. El concierto acabó prácticamente con la caida de la mesa del DJ (observad el clip), nunca ví nada igual, los platos por los suelos, la mesa volcada, menos mal que fue al final, eso sí, han salieron muy airosos del incidente, cerrando su actuación con mucha profesionalidad. En definitiva, fue un magnífico conciertazo.

Love It
The CD came in perfect shape and on time. I love the Cranberries. My dad, who's like my favorite person on earth, introduced me to them when I was very little. Hearing them again was like a walk down memory lane.

Great songs. I'm not ashamed of saying that my favorite Make Out song is on here too ;)

Fun Lovin Criminals "Scooby Snacks Collection" Album Review

Not exactly a best of but still very good
Ok, I love FLC, so I may be bias on my review. Anyway, I was expecting kind of a best of, but this cd is filled with strange stuff as well. well known hits in here, like Korean Bodega or 10th Street, but also some less known wonders like Half a Block, Up on the hill and an amazing version of Scooby Snacks in true Mafioso style (very cool indeed for FLC fans). So you won't find songs like King of New York (one of my favs), Loco, Big Night Out and such... Still it's a very good buy for fans.

Jimi Hendrix "Purple Haze" Album Review

Absolutely first rate! Performance & recording are excellent
I am far from knowledgable about music. However, this is a marvelous introduction to contemporary music as arranged for a string quartet. The vision and versatility of this group are really laid out here. The only piece that jars is "Purple Haze," which, sorry folks, just doesn't work with strings. While I greatly applaud Kronos' willingness to try on a rock masterpiece, Hendrix said everything that needs to be said. I recommend this CD unreservedly! Jeff
