There are some very hot peppers out there. In India is the hottest pepper on the hot pepper scale. The Guinness Book of World Records has dubbed this pepper the Hottest Pepper in the world. What is it?

1. Bhut Jolokia Chili

This pepper, with one small bite will make your eyes water, your nose burn as if you’ve been punched in the face and your mouth will feel heat for up to 5 hours!

Hot peppers closely following the Bhut Jolokia Chili in hotness:

2. Dorset Naga

This pepper can be fount in Dorset, England. It is related to the Bhut Jolokia.

3. Red Savina Habanero
&
4. Habanero

You can cook your habeneros to lessen the hotness of them before putting them into your recipes. Don’t let this fool you, the habenero will still be hot as hell. Don’t use more than one in your hot sauce recipes.

5. Scotch Bonnet

This pepper is used mostly in the Caribbean. Use very little of this chile as it has a killer kick.

If you are planning to use these peppers in your sauces or foods, wear gloves and protect your eyes. Remember that the first 2 peppers are 5x hotter than habanero’s! That is serious heat.

Looking for a good all around hot sauce to use in your dishes? For a good and inexpensive hot sauce we recommend Frank’s Red Hot Sauce. It’s perfect for pepper sauce recipes which require a little bit of kick!

Frank’s actually has four different kinds of sauce, but for our recipes we are big fans of their original red hot sauce blend. We put it on everything. From popcorn to spaghetti to chicken wings. It’s got just the right amount of heat to make our otherwise boring food taste so much better. And what’s easier than pouring a little hot sauce on your food?

If you are looking to get creative with the sauce (as we’re sure many of our readers are), try using Frank’s in a seafood dip or on a salad. Burgers? Absolutely! Pizza? Why not. Literally, you can put Frank’s on everything. Well, ok almost everything – we haven’t tried it on a dessert yet (but we’re sure that somewhere out there someone has a great recipe for the adventurous).

One tip we try here is that if the food usually tastes better when you put pepper on it, then it will taste a whole lot better with hot sauce. Once you start thinking about foods like this you realize that you can put hot sauce on all kinds of dishes. It becomes a staple just like salt and pepper. And man, that’s good eating right there!

Thai Chile Jam is a great compliment to classic Thai dishes, such as crispy-fried pork belly – called muu grop in Thailand and it’s also one of my girlfriend’s favorite dishes.

Thai Chile Jam Ingredients

2 Sliced Shallots

4 Split Garlic Cloves

2 Tbsp. Dried Shrimp (available at any Asian grocer)

6 Dried Red De Arbol Chiles

2 Tbsp. Brown Sugar

2 Teaspoons of Thai Fish Sauce

2 Cups of Sunflower Seed Oil

Chile Jam Preparation

Heat up the Sunflower Seed Oil in a wok – medium heat.

Fry the Shallots until browned, then remove from the oil

In the same oil, fry the garlic cloves until lightly colored, then remove them from the oil.

Add shrimp and chiles to the oil for half a minute and then remove them too.

Next, puree all the items in a food processor.

In a saucepan, bring the mixture to a boil, after which you should add some sugar and the fish sauce.

Let the mixture simmer until it thickens

Eat the Jam!

Like I said before, this jam is perfect for fried pieces of meat. Eat it up!

If you love hot sauce recipes like this, you’ll probably love the Hot Sauce Bottle Cookbook.

I found a great copycat Hot Sauce Recipe that some I know some of you are craving for – Taco Bell’s Green HOT SAUCE!

For many Hot Sauce purists, this recipe might not be your first choice when deciding which hot sauce to stir up. But this green sauce’s simple preparation requirements and proven fantastic taste – especially for producing in large batches :p – make the recipe one that’s hard to completely ignore.

Green Hot Sauce Ingredients

1lb of fresh Tomatillos

3 large seeded jalapeno peppers

1 medium chopped onion

2 cloves of garlic

6 sprigs of cilantro with stems removed

2 cups of chicken broth

1 tablespoon of vegetable oil

Hot Sauce Preparation

Cloning Taco Bell’s green hot sauce recipe will take the average chiles-monger less than 30 minutes to complete and the recipe is about average difficulty.

So let’s get started!

First, remove the husks from the tomatillos and cut them in half. Next, boil the tomatillos and seeded jalapeno peppers in the chicken broth for 10 minutes.

After straining the tomatillos and peppers – making sure to keep the broth – combine the all the ingredients sans the oil, and blend it finely.

Meanwhile, heat the oil in a pan and then add the blended mixture, cooking it for about 5 minutes. Stir the blend until it becomes dark and thick. Add the broth to the mixture and then bring it all to a boil.

Reduce the heat and let it simmer until the sauce thickens. The thickening process takes about 10 minutes and make sure you stir it!

Try out the Sauce!

Although the Taco Bell Green Hot Sauce clone is probably best used on Taco Bell tacos, I’d say you could put it on just about everything, including plain noodles and peanuts (Thai style!).

What do you think?

Hot Sauce Recipes largely incorporate a number of spicy chiles and peppers. One of the great things about Hot Sauce Recipes is their versatility.

Hot Sauce can be added to spicy foods, sweets and even drinks! Imagine sipping on your favorite cocktail with an added kick! Sounds tasty! Linda Matthie Jacobs’ book The Hot Sauce Bottle Cookbook features great recipes for using hot sauce – including using hot sauce on pancakes and ice cream!

What makes people crave Hot Sauce Recipes? The HEAT!

Whether an Americana- or Asian-style hot sauce, Hot Sauce lovers often look for the perceived sense of heat that Hot Sauce often wroughts on wanting lips and tongues.

But don’t worry. You’re mouth isn’t really burning. Hot Sauce ignites certain chemical reactions in your mouth and doesn’t actually burn it. Hot Sauce contains capsaicin, a chemical that makes food spicy.

The word capsaicin makes my mouth water just writing it.

If you’ve been trying to shed a few pounds and haven’t bit the bullet because you can’t for the life of you give up hot sauce – and who can blame you – then give a look at Spiro B Antoniades’s Hot Sauce Diet book for modifying your behavior!
