Grateful Paws is a local, not for profit and no kill rescue organization providing much needed services for cats and dogs in South Florida (GratefulPaws.org (http://www.GratefulPaws.org)) and Ewe (owner and creator of Wolf Cuff) was so happy to raise almost $8,000 for this very needy organization. On Thursday, Humpy's Pizza and Panini celebrated their 5th anniversary with a customer appreciation day featuring lots of specials and many community people came out to wish Steve, Dennis and their entire staff Happy Anniversary!

Tuesday night was the Monthly Fort Lauderdale Mack Mixer at The Schubert Resort and as always a nice crowd showed up. Thursday afternoon the MDGLCC presented the 1st Annual "State Of Our Community" Luncheon - at the Hilton Miami Downtown. This was the first time 4 area mayors have convened together to address the LGBT Business Community. Thursday night was the bi-monthly GLBX networker at the law firm of Kaufman, Rossin & Co in the old Hot Chocolate building on Federal and Oakland. Later Thursday night some of the Hotspots staff went over to Smarty Pants for Nikki Adams monthly show and as always she was perfection! Friday night, The Manor premiered their new addition, Tapa and Tapas with free samples. Saturday night feature theme parties all over town and the clubs were packed including Jungle Love at Discotekka, XOXO at Score with DJ Paulo, Red, & White Ball at Boom and the annual I Feel Love Ball party at the Manor with Kidd Madonny. On Sunday the Miami Dade Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce hosted their 4th annual EXPLORE Expo in Miami's famed design district at the Moore Building. This year they were joined by the LGBT Travel Expo topped off by a fashion show hosted by Swinging Richards. Congratulations to the show organizers on a great event!

Hey Woody, I just moved here and can't believe how juvenile guys are about HIV. I'm quite up-front about my status and I choose to let it come out in the natural course of getting to know a guy. Granted, after living through the crisis since the beginning (nearly 19 years now) I have seen a lot, and I find myself getting all pissed off at an increasingly visible trend of sexual discrimination. What is up with so many guys advertising their HIV-negative status in discriminatory terms like "HIV Neg- UB2," or "D&D Free for Same," and other senseless statements in the same vein? What would they do DIFFERENTLY if they DIDN'T know my status right up front? And since when does the word "CLEAN" refer to absence of HIV?

According to a recent Harris Interactive national study, seven out of 10 LGBT consumers said they are likely to remain loyal to a brand they believe to be very friendly and supportive to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community, even when less friendly companies may offer lower prices or be more convenient. More than 100 such businesses will be on hand for the local LGBT community and its allies when the Miami-Dade Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (MDGLCC) presents the "4th Annual Explore/EXPO," Sunday, February 12, from noon to 5 p.m. at the Moore Building in Miami's Design District. Tuesday night was the monthly Mack Mixer in Boca this month held at Seasons 52 (great food, low calories) and as usual had a very nice turn out. Thursday night was the 24th anniversary of The Palace Bar in South Beach, the oldest gay bar on the beach. The 24th anniversary brought everyone out as the Palace was packed with well wishers and featured performance by Noel Leon, Tiffany Fantasia, Missy Meyakie, Shanaya Bright and Latrice Royale and featured the sounds of DJ Cindel. Congrats to owner Tom, General Manager Jerry and the entire Palace staff for a phenomenal anniversary party and here's hoping they have 24 more years of success! Friday night Score had a video release party for Gloria Estefan's Hotel National and Gloria herself made a surprise appearance to introduce the video.

Tuesday, was the bi-monthly Mack Lunch and this time it was held at The Outback on 17th street. The food and service were impeccable and to top it off I won a massage. Check out the next Mack Lunch in March as it will be their 7 year anniversary. Friday night some of the Hotspots team went down to Swinging Richards and boy we were impressed, not only by the sexy boys taking it off for our visual pleasure, but also by the amount of people they are getting. Saturday was jam packed and started out at the Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony of Wilton Bier Garden at 6 pm. For those of you who have not been there, this new Hotspot on the drive serve food and lots of beer and wines in a beautiful outdoor/indoor setting, so check it out!

Thursday night was the monthly Men's Night out in its new location at Dapur. Men's Night out is a neighborhood social event with the next gathering on Thursday, February 2. Friday some of us went down to Eros Lounge for their new Friday night promotion "Born To Be A Drag" at 10 pm. The night is hosted by Tiffany Fantasia and featured performances by her and Latrice Royale, who you can catch as one of the contestants on this year's RuPaul's Drag race. Eros was very busy and it was good to see this new lounge doing so well. Thursday night Boom celebrated the 50th birthday of owner Craig with much fanfare and lots of well wishers. Here's wishing Craig another 50 years of joy and happiness! Friday night Latino Salud had their annual Holiday party this year entitled Winterland and lots of cute Latino's showed up to party the night away. Congrats to director Stephen Fallon and the entire Latino Salud staff for another fabulous party. On Saturday The Villa Venice guest house had a pre New Years Eve pool party, so the boys can get started early. Isn't it nice that we live in South Florida and can have a pool Party this time of year! Saturday night I stayed in Wilton Manors to celebrate New Year's Eve as I don't like to drive around. Before midnight every place on the drive seemed to be packed and showed no signs of the crowds dying down. After Midnight I headed to The Manor and the place was packed and stayed packed till after 4 am. I heard Miami had record crowds as well.

HIV Meds and Worthy of Monogamy

Hey Woody, I'm hoping you can help me and other people in the same situation. I'm HIV+ and in desperate need of meds. I make practically nothing income-wise yet I've been turned down for assistance from every AIDS organization, public health clinic and governmental group (like Social Security) you can think of. Why? Because I'm not full blown yet. When I started meds a year ago I was 30 t-cells away from being full blown and got my meds from a research group that just dropped me a month ago. I've been struggling ever since then for help. The researchers can't get me any more meds and won't offer me assistance. I'm at my wit's end, what can I do?

Holiday Spirit in Ybor City 2011

The lit garland strands were hung up with care by over 160 GaYBOR Coalition members and city workers volunteering their time decorating all along the Nationally famous Ybor streets. The big lighting ceremony of the Central Districts 34' Holiday Tree in Centro Ybor was setup, lit and witnessed by thousands. There was a Juried Art Festival in the Park bringing in new visitors to Centennial Park and 25 cent TECO Streetcar rides offered for families to ride clanking along the historical waterfront and Channelside Districts. A big unleashed holiday spectacular was around the corner though. "SNOW IN YBOR CITY" was experienced by the many thousands of visitors. It happened all along 7th Ave between 15th and 17th Streets, with the surprise appearance of Santa Claus on the Ybor City Fire truck.

It's a tradition that gets all the Ybor City shop owners getting competitive. It is the 4th Annual GaYBOR Holiday Store Front Decorating Contest. To the amazement of all out of the area visitors and regulars to Ybor City, the store owners decorated up a frenzy of holiday gaiety! The competition was open to all stores, retail shops, bars, clubs, hotels, and offices. There was an extra prize going out to residences in the historic district who decorated the exterior of their homes and condos. There are five winning categories all competing to win up to $1,000 baskets of prizes from other retailers in Ybor City. Hundreds took part in this year's fun annual colorful competition! Wednesday night, the South Florida community came out in support of "A Toy's Story 2: A Night for Giving." By the end of the evening, the community raised more than $25,000 in proceeds for many local charities (SunServe, Broward House, Kids in Distress, SMA, Pet Project, Kids in Distress, Dental Program, Knock Out Cancer, and The Covenant House). The event was hosted by Marc Silverstone of Equilibrium Events (also a writer for Hotspots Magazine) at The Manor. On Thursday, the Miami Dade GLCC hosted the annual Holigay Toy Drive at the Welcome Center in Miami Beach. A record number of attendees were greeted my Santa himself as they donated hundreds of toys and gifts for needy children. A special thank you goes out to everyone at the MDGLCC for your hard work in creating such a magical evening.

The first was Asnel Medina's (bartender at Discotekka) birthday party and the second was Marco Sanchez and Orlando Orta's annual Xmas brunch.
